  • This time we start to fit the engine into the Escort, fabricating engine mounts.
    Throughout the project we will build tools to help us along the way, the custom tools we build, we will upload our how-to videos

    After the gas man in his man cave 😊 What a great way to start my weekend a video on the Escort 👍🏻 Lots of thoughts 💭 going into those engine mounts 👍🏻

    Good job Dave, the only concern is that mount plate that's spaced away from the block, you could have notched it to go over that cast lump and sit it closer to the block.
    My last Zetec install i removed the head which allows plenty of wiggle room when fitting into engine bay .

    gasless is hotter so better penetration for the current.

    Not to be that guy again but, you dont need that dipstick hole… your sump sis in the back now and you need a new hole for the dipstick.
    I just cut that stupid protruding piece off the block. And as going dry sump the dipstick is not needed in my case.
    Awesome progress on the car, mine just waits for the winter.

    Yeah ,mind keep up the good work,the small box that you put onto the engine from an Orion,is that the ECU or equivalent,?

    • @DavesGarageuk
      @DavesGarageuk  Рік тому

      I believe from a late Orion, apparently will run the ignition for a Zetec, but time will tell how well or not it works.

    Hi Dave, only just found your UA-cam videos great uploads and very good engineering knowledge.
    going through your videos gratually to catch up.
    Couple of questions, where do you find the time and is your background engineering 👍

      Hi, thank you, and welcome aboard 😊😊. I usually work in my garage on Wednesday evenings or weekends, but it can be a struggle to find the time. My working background is plumbing/gas fitting. But I've always loved cars since I can remember.. 😊😊

    we used to leave the crossmember on Dave an bolt the gearbox on after the engine is in, its a bit fiddly to get the bolts in the gear box an starter but you have to clear the sump first, i would of thought it would have gone tho with the auto tunnel?

    • @DavesGarageuk
      @DavesGarageuk  Рік тому

      It may well do if I cut the tunnel to suit the gear stick, just seemed simpler at this point to try this way.

    I think you'll find that the fluxcore has better penetration on the thick stuff. Looks like you've conquered thin material with it as well. "The Gas Man goes gasless" ;-) Always interesting tips Dave!

    I wrote a comment but it seems to have disappeared,but i have heard you mention security for it?are you gonna put an immobilizer,alarm and a tracker on it as it will be wanted by car theifs and would probably end up being broken up or shoved on to someone else's vin plate

    • @DavesGarageuk
      @DavesGarageuk  Рік тому

      Hi Paul, yep, I’ll be including security, but I’ll be keeping mum about that. 😉

    I’d be cutting the lump off the block to get that mount plate closer to the block, you can alter the x member to move the mount points further forward to make life easier

    Fantastic improvisation on the fly with the yogurt pot,did you have one in recycling or did you need to eat it quick like?

    Awesome job mate....I think, you must cut out little bit the bulkhead to fit this engine. Waiting for the second round.... Thanks for yout tips

    Dave ,I don't know if you have thought of it yet but you best think about a good emobiliser alarm and tracker as car theifs will want it and all your good work will be gone if you don't take those precautions

    Hi Dave I'm a fan of your work I like how you think outside of the box and your determination for perfection on your fabrication work,I thought of you and your work as I want window louvers for my Corsa d back side windows on my two door but they would have to be in aluminum or plastic from a 3d printer,but I don't know if your one would be able to because of the size , you could look them up just by googling to buy and you will see them on a black car but I can't seem to find them for sale so any ideas? What's the price of a 3d printer like yours?

    • @DavesGarageuk
      @DavesGarageuk  Рік тому

      Hi Paul, my 3d printer is a small one, it is possible, and well documented on how to make a 3d printer bigger, but out of my knowledge range. Have you thought about fabricating a mould and making fiberglass ones?
