    Want to do more for your TMJ, but don't want to stick your finger in your mouth every day? Try working with the SCM, that big muscle on either side of the front of your neck. It attaches right next to the temporomandibular joint, and it's often involved in jaw pain.

    My jaw has clicked when I open my mouth for the past 3.5 years... and after doing that massage, it has stopped (at least temporarily). I'll be doing this everyday. AWESOME. THANK YOU.

    Thank you thank you thank you. My TMJ was painful enough that I couldn't bite an apple and could chew food only on one side in my mouth. After a couple of weeks of massage, I can almost forget I have TMJ when eating food. I've found doing massage while opening and closing my mouth as recommended is particular effective. At the current rate of my recovery, I'm confident that I'll be back to normal gradually. Thank you again!!!

    Fantastic video as is "part 1" of this TMJ pain exercise which should be viewed first.
    Couple of links you verbally mentioned need adding in to bottom left of screen.
    I think these are the best vids on Myofacial exercises for TMJ discomfort on web. Keep up the fine work mate.

    Thank you for your video. The self massage help me very much. I just do it for a few days and there is now almost no sound in my jaw joint anymore. It´s also very relaxing and it´s releasing all the tension in my face and head. I am always surprised how simple things make a big change in my life.

    These videos are super helpful! Opening and closing my jaw while doing the massage gives a lot more relief. It's nice to find a massage therapist who has experienced TMD himself. These videos are exactly what I was looking for. Hopefully my jaw and face won't feel so tired anymore. Thank you!

    I have had a terrible habit of cracking my jaw because of discomfort for almost five years now. I did the exercise you did in another video and began cracking my jaw less, but the exercise with the neck has made my jaw feel normal for the first time in a long time, I know this won't be the case for everyone. I just wanted to thank you for these videos.

    Thank you so much for your videos! My tmj has on and off stretched out my sensory nerves and I loose partial feeling along the jaw line to the middle of my chin. Usually I just wait it out for the head aches and sensory feeling to come back, but it really effects my moods due to the stress it causes me. Often this last about two weeks. After just doing your exercises once, most of the feeling has already come back. Thank you so much for your videos!

    Oh thank you Ian !! for such a helpful video - I can feel the difference already. I have been in face pain for 3 years and chronic pain for four months and now off sick.I have just had a new splint made by a private dentist. I have seen a cranial osteopath and acupunturist as well as being pumped with horrible drugs from the GP. I think
    these videos will help me return to work. Thanks again .. more learning ....x

    I have FMS for many years and work too long at a computer every day. About 3 months ago I experienced a muscle spasm at the back of my right side jaw. Since then. more and more tension/pain. Last 5 days I've had extreme tinnitus in right ear. I suspect it's related to my jaw tension. I just did both techniques and feel more freedom already. Right side jaw clicks as well. I will continue using these MFR techniques and am hopeful. Thank you.

    thanks for these videos...I have another medical condition that requires daily at-home massage and I was erroneously applying the same method to my neck/face as for the other condition. For my other condition, it's all about applying as much pressure as I can stand. As soon as you said don't apply too much pressure I was like "ohhhhh, so that's (part of) what I'm doing wrong here". Anyway, this has really helped with the pain, thanks so much

    Thank you for the education about TMJ and the videos you made. I had a bad TMJ dilemma two weeks ago and it just wasn't going away. Your videos made good sense to me. I just completed 8 weeks of rehab for hip replacement, so I value the subtle exercises that do great things. For the three days I have been doing the exercises in both videos, I fell remarkable success. It still hurts a bit when I go from side-to-side...Any suggestion for that?
    I really appreciate the education.

    I have been searching for (drug free) relief from TMJ for 2 years. I viewed both of your videos and did the recommended massages. FINALLY!!! -- Something that actually works! My TMJ also affects the muscles in the back of my neck, down into my shoulders. Do you you have any recommendations for that? I am truly thankful for all of the relief and education that you share for people suffering in such pain. You are GREATLY appreciated!

    Hi Sandie! It sounds like you're experiencing some of that interconnectedness in the jaw and ear region, though I can't say for sure. I applaud your use of self-treatment, but would definitely recommend a visit to your dentist to evaluate that tension and click. Best of luck!

    You sir are a godsend. I have battled with neck-jaw-ear-upper back pain every day for the last 7 months. Ice, heat, massage rollers, tennis balls, nothing helps. Just a few minutes of this took me instantly out of pain. I have paid for similar treatments but can't afford to get it as frequently as necessary. THANK YOU! Is there a such thing as too much frequency of treatment? Do you recommend more than once a day?

    • @Bodymindconspiracyblog
      @Bodymindconspiracyblog  9 років тому +1

      Erik Holgersen Great to hear! I'd keep it to twice a day indefinitely, once in the morning and once before bed (or whenever works for you). If you feel like adding something else, try ice and/or heat. Do what feels good.

    I just tried this video out of recommendation from my chiropractor brother and my ear pain has been horrific with the jaw pain coming in as a close second for the last week. Right after your two TMJ videos my ear pain is gone. Kind of scared of hurting my lymph nodes though. :/ Thanks!

    • @Bodymindconspiracyblog
      @Bodymindconspiracyblog  8 років тому

      +joshua Williams Glad to hear you got relief! As for your lymph nodes, be gentle and keep your pressure angled (instead of pressing straight in) and they should be happy. Feel free to lighten up if you feel a swollen or tender node!

  • @Bodymindconspiracyblog
    @Bodymindconspiracyblog  11 років тому

    Definitely play with it. I'd start with 2-3x per day, ice immediately after, and see whether a greater frequency gets you better results. All treatments are subject to the law of diminishing returns, and can even become harmful in large enough doses (I'm betting, for instance, if you did this for 5 hours each day, your jaw muscles would turn into a gelatinous goo). Best of luck, let me know about your progress!

    When you do this jaw excersise, do you get immediate results? I asked this because when I did the excersise some how my jaw felt more tighter and felt like my jaw was compressing with pain. Im not sure if I did this correctly, and maybe thats the reason I didnt feel my jaw releasing all the tension. It felt more tense when I did this excersise. I am 13 and I have pain and I hear popping and cracking on both sides of my jaw. This has been going on for about two months, so I would like more videos

    Hi there, thanks for the videos! I briefly went to a physiotherapist for my TMJ but I want to start doing self-massages to cut down on expenses. About 2 years ago I had symptoms such as my jaw popping but now it is completely locked and I can never un-lock or pop it any more. I still have pain and can't open my mouth very wide. Do you think these self-massages would be effective for me still?

    • @Bodymindconspiracyblog
      @Bodymindconspiracyblog  8 років тому

      +Daniella Aguanno Hi Daniella, sorry for the delay in getting back to you! I do think they would help, as long as you're gentle and err on the side of caution. A locked jaw is usually a high-tension environment; if we can get the tension to reduce, the disc in the TMJ can slowly start to resume its normal function (sliding as you use your jaw, rather than getting pulled out of place and creating that "locked" situation). Try some gentle jaw massage twice a day (if you do the version where you open your jaw, only move a few millimeters), try a 10 minute application of an ice pack covered with a towel once per day, and avoid testing/stretching the area.
      One problem I had, and that I see in many people who have TMJ issues, is constant "testing" to see if it still hurts or pops. The same with constant poking and prodding. Instead, try to rest the area, give it slow gentle massage just once or twice a day, and see if ice reduces your pain. If you don't see any improvement in a week, discontinue. If the pain/dysfunction stays the same or worsens, please keep pursuing medical treatment. Best of luck!
