In this video we are out testing my new Astia inspired film simulations pack.
We also talk about white balance and exposure settings among other things.
Samples in this video was shot with the Canon SL2/200D and a multitude of lenses. Canon 50mm, Pentax 35mm F2.8 and Blazar Remus 1.5x anamorphic
The talking head portion in this video was shot on Sony FX30 and the Tamron 17-70mm f2.8

This is not a complete list of supported cameras.
These are cameras users have reported they’ve installed and used these picture styles on.
If you can’t find your camera on the list but it’s newer than some of the cameras mentioned. Chances are that it will support these custom picture styles. If you try it and it’s successful, please report back to me so I can add that model to the list.

Starting to love my m50 again after getting the bmpcc6k for professional work. Goin on a roadtrip to Norway in 3 Hours, and with 3 weeks without a power outlet, I can't take my hungry pocket 6k with me!
The Filmic Base, Crowdak and this are gonna live on my m50 at all times from now on.

Awesome stuff man. I am new to photography and I have been having a lot of fun with your film simulations. Filmic base has been my go-to. If I could make a request, I think a picture profile setting to achieve the disposable camera look would be awesome! Like one that was meant to be used with direct flash. Darken the shadows, brighten the highlights, add some green tint, etc etc.

i was so excited to receive the email this morning! thanks for all your work with the filmic looks for the canon picture styles. I've been using a few of them daily on my candid photos of my children. i wish on the canon camera i can load more than 3 custom styles, now that would be awesome! can't wait to try this out

I've really loved Crowdak so I'll have to try these. I'm planning a move to Nikon and will miss these profiles when I go. Wish I had the funds to just send you a Zfc or something to incentivize porting them over to Nikon too. Thank you for your efforts putting these together.

I really love your simulations! i cant wait to take out there and test every "preset" I just have a question, is there a posibility to take this for a raw in lightroom? or are you only working with jpges... infinite thank youuuu!
If you open up your RAW files in Canons software Digital photo Professional and apply the pf3 files to the rawfiles there and then open them in LR

Hi, Thomas your Style packs are a life saver, I especially love your Filmic Base, is there a way I or you could make the blacks more black instead of the brighter version on the pack. (make the blacks more black/ contrasty)

I could probably make a more contrasty version. Have you made any adjustments to the contrast settings on the profile in camera?
@@thomasfransson Yes I have tried playing around with the in camera settings, especially contrast but it doesn't seem to make the blacks very deep and sharp. If you could make a more contrasty version that would be absolutely perfect! I love your presets so much! Thank you!

Hey Thomas I appreciate this pack I was actually check-in your channel this morning looking to see and lo and behold I saw it in my email ✉️😅...astia is gonna be there.. currently my go to is the porta , pro neg and flimic bw...now Idk which to ship out 😢...but much tanx man will be testing and tagging you in ig...ps I will close to the film sim..I love astia and yours looking pretty better than the pack that be on the internet...white balance also is fun I actually trying the daylight or tweeking to 5300k..and lastly wb correction does help . sorry for the very long comment but you made my day...

The mkII seems to be one of the earliest models that support pf3. I believe the mkII was released in 2008 and according to the people at Canon I talked to, they said pf3 was rolled out and supported by cameras released 2015 and later...
So it might, but probably not.
You could download one for free and give it a try.

Filming base is my main Jpg style on my m6ii and M. What a style! Especially fun to use with disposable bodycap lens.

@ThomasFransson it's a lot of fun and engages you creatively with the fixed focus/aperture. Not sharp at all, but that's the point. Thanks for these, will buy you a cup of coffee when I download the Astia pack!

What is the camera you are using for sample videos/photos? 650d or 700d? If the videos are 4k, did you use magic lantern?
It's shot with the Canon SL2/200D and I just uprez the footage in post. Some of the talking head and the portions of me with the Canon is shot with the Sony FX30
Hi, I love your picture profiles, I never shoot without them.
I was wondering if it was also possible to have a corresponding LUT, sometimes it happens that you have to correct a raw file and not being able to apply the same picture profile the image is not congruent with the others.

@@thomasfransson Thanks for the reply, I tried but I don't understand how to make it work, once I download raw codec software no executable appears and the picture style editor gives me the same error "The image cannot be loaded. The image style editor has been deactivated on this file subsequent modification"
Can You Make C LOG 3 Picture Style Please
For cameras shooting 8 bit video I think it's better to use either Prolost flat (settings done in camera) or maybe Cinestyle which I used for a while.
But personally I think using the Neutral picture style and maybe recduce the contrast and saturation a tiny bit will yield better results and will be easier to work with if you're not using an external monitor or a camera that supports correction luts internally for monitoring.
That's why I've never bothered with making any flat profiles.

I have been loving and appreciating your work, but since canon only gives 3 spots, do you have any recommendations? Personally, my top 2 are crowdak and filmic monochrome.
Buuut I cant decide for the 3rd spot. My friend has a Fujifilm x100vi and I am liking it's photos. Which of your preset might be the closest to that? Thank you very much and really appreciate your work
It very much depends on what I'm shooting. You could try the new Astia Vintage, that'll give you a wide range

Maybe the retro depending on the location, time of day and so forth. But I would probably be shooting jpg plus raw on a wedding. Just to be safe.
I wish i could edit your picture styles but i understand why you dont let us :(. I wanted to tweak a older one you made but had to make one from scratch

I cant even connect my canon to my PC. I tried with cable even WPS and no luck!
Try another version of eos utility or picture style loader if you’re using a g series camera. Also try another cable if possible.

I don't see the G5x mark ii in the comments list below. Would these Presets work on it?
I don't think I've gotten any confirmations from G5X mkII users.
If it's a model released after 2015 it should work, as long as there's custom slots available on the camera.
Also, I believe for the G series cameras one uses a software other than EOS Utility called Picture Style registration tool.
Let me know if it works so I can add it to the list

@@erickvelez9638 I use G5X mk2. I've registered some film sim from this channel, and it works well.
It's input in photoshop or input in camera?
You'll load these on your camera and you'll get the look in camera on your jpgs and video files if you shoot with these profiles.
There should be a step by step video on the end screen that shows you how to load them onto your camera.

Yes you can
I just got my R50 couple of days ago and 3 of my presets are his work( crowdak, pro neigh hi, and now astia vintage). Once in a while I put in his filmic monochrome :)
