In this video I will show some examples of film emulations as well as guiding you through the installation process of these free emulations in the form of custom #picturestyles.
Popular cameras like the #Canon #M50 & the M50 Mark II will let you see the filmcolors in the EVF (electronic viewfinder) On DSLR's Like the SL2 and #SL3 (#200d & #250d ) you will be able to see the colors similar to #Kodachrome25 your display.

These are cameras users have reported they’ve installed and used these picture styles on.
If you can’t find your camera on the list but it’s newer than some of the cameras mentioned. Chances are that it will support these custom picture styles. If you try it and it’s successful, please report back to me so I can add that model to the list.

Would you like to see more videos with FILM EMULATIONS for Canon - Both Video and Stills?
I didn't have enough time to gather video content. Let me know what you think.
Can it be used in canon eos rebel t6?
Yes, more please!!
Hi! Looking forward to see more !
yes please...
As a child of the 90s, I started my camera journey with Canon 1000 D and 600 D they are still with me. I wish to see Film simulations working on those good old cameras too.
Thanks for a short but useful video. Love your calm energy as well.
Thank you, that's kind of you to say!
Great video! I tried these and they were so so, but then I tried yours and those are 100000000x better. Love it
Yay! Thank you!
@ThomasFransson I'm going to have to say after 1 fulll day of testing your picture styles, I mostly shoot candids of my children, the filmic one works the best for skin tones and contrast. Let me test it for a bit more. Thank you for helping and serving the community. It works well on my r6mk2
This is so wonderful to hear, that these profiles are getting used. And tank you for your feedback
Really thank you for your kind share of these emulation files😁
My pleasure 😊
I have several newer ones that I think are even better.
BTW: For newer Canon (EOS R5) After you load the profiles for photo, you can then disconnect the camera switch to video mode then go to the User profiles, select "Info" and you can search for the custom profiles in the list and load them. It's so nice to use these profiles when I don't need/want to use CLOG and mess with color grades. Thanks!
Only this much of views? What the heck. Thanks for these...
😅 Enjoy them!
If you like these - check out my custom Picture Styles in more recent videos.
Very helpful information! Thanks so much for this video. Liked and subbed!
Thank you!
Great job, as usual!
Thank you!
Awesome video mate 🔥
Yo!!! Brad's in the comments! lol
I’m your newest subscriber! I recently decided I wanted to get into video with my Canon M50 ii, but right now I don’t have time to learn how to color grade, so you have provided me with an excellent temporary solution!
I hope to make some content soon using these picture profiles and tagging you in them!
Which picture profile would you recommend for using inside of a Church?
Great to hear that you're getting into video! That totally makes sense, so much to learn and figure out where you start.
Inside a church, well Filmic Base could work well, it's not overly contrasty and if it's a bit dim in there. Lower contrast can be good. North West could work well too.
Good luck and happy shooting!
Great video. Super easy to follow. Thank you!
Have fun!
Thank you, this is super useful!
Hey Thomas, great video. What's the best Velvia "flavor", in your opinion, that comes with the emulation package? Cheers from Brazil.
That's a good question, comparing them to the one on my Fujifilm they all fall a little short. But you can get better results with some in camera tweaks to the profiles depending on the scene you're shooting. Lots of blue vs green and so on.
I might pick up my Fuji cloning project this summer to see if I can make my own versions of Velvia, classic neg and a few others I use a lot.
Thanks
really great video thanks man you're my hero!
Glad you liked it!
Thank you
can you download and use these settings on a canon powershot s110? Its a point and shoot
If the camera supports .2pf or .3pf files it will work.
Do a quick Google search or see if there's any custom picture style slots in the menu.
do some examples of this collection with the canon sl2.
The stills are all shot with the SL2
And there's a second Video with more material and more emulations.
Awesome!
Thank you so much 😊
Any time!
Wooooow, Dude! Great video! May i use it on canon Rp? Tks
Thank you!
Yes I think these should work on the RP as well.
Let me know how it turns out
@@thomasfransson thank you, mate! It really works! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
@@marceloweyll That's great! Thanks for letting me know that I works on the R6.
Now, have fun out there!
Really cool! thanks!!!
Thank you sir for this video 😊😊
Thank you
I don't feel like these resemble any film stock to be honest here, they look very much alike with slight differences in saturation, and that's pretty much it.
On the most basic level the colors should differ greatly between these 3 film simulations, atleast fi you look at the real film stocks they are trying to replicate. The samples shown have very similar color and contrast.
They're different, but I agree, they're not super filmic. That's why I started making my own picture styles.
@@thomasfransson that's nice! I also created some sony film simulations using the picture profile menus. How is the canon menu in the sense of settings? Does it offer you in depth control of the image? I used the canon r5c, and it has a really great menu for creating in camera profiles, but it's a cinema line, so was wondering for lower end cameras how do you feel about it?
@@veresdenialex Cool! Not a lot of options in camera so you will need to do the creative editing of the profiles in a desktop software.
@@thomasfransson good to know, thank you for taking the time!
@@thomasfranssonwouldn't the better option be to adapt a vintage lens that has a unique color rendering on a full frame or aps-c camera in raw?
Hi Thomas, thank you for your always new content an information, but I have a question, is there any app that preview the files? so we can choose hat we want before we choose, I know just few of them an it is hard sometimes to apply the preset in the camera everytime I want to preview. many thanks again.
Not that I know of.
You have to embrace the limitations ;)
what about canon600D? I stuggle to find any suitable version canon utility that 600D is listed
Try one for the closest model or look at another continent website. I'm based in scandinavia but almost always use Canon north America and Asia's websites since I can't find everything on my "native" Canon pages.
Given the fact that the 550D have been reported as working, the 600D should work as it's a newer model.
Thanks mate!
hey man, just came across this video. i have a question. i have the new EOS R10 and i followed every step in your video but when i try to click 'ok' , it wont let me. why is that? btw great video!
Oh, that's weird!
I've not tested all of these myself so it may be a corrupt file or unsupported base profile maybe?
On the profiles I've created they seem to work on all newer cameras including the R5. But some profiles where I've used the picture style "Fine detail" as base won't load on slightly older cameras that don't have native support for the Fine Detail picture style.
Sorry not much help - maybe try one of my custom profiles, just to rule out or see what's causing the issue you're having. I know they're being used on Canons newer mirrorless cameras without any reported issues.
Hey thank you I'm glad to hear you liked the video. You you can get some fun picture styles on your camera. It's a lot of fun to shoot with.
cool! How can I test these styles on a computer with RAW files to pick out the more interesting ones before uploading them to the camera? The camera provides the ability to set only three user profiles (
Either get the Picture Style Editor or load thee on your camera and go out and shoot with them. I'd recommend the latter as you'll probably find yourself exposing and even picking compositions a bit different when shooting with these types of picture styles.
You could also check out my custom picture styles on my channel. They will give you a more pronounced look than most of the Film emulations in this pack.
Cheers
Thank you so much for this.
Which profile would you recommend for weddings? And lastly one that doesn't produce any banding in a clear blue sky?
I'm using the canon m50i
I just released a pack with my Filmic Picture Styles (for free) It includes a Base, Portrait and Monochrome profile. Those are probably the ones I would use for something like a wedding. They are a bit more nostalgic and film like. So probably perfect for most weddings.
There's two recent videos about them on my channel or you can get them on my website which is my name + .com
Banding in a blue sky is usually caused by the lack of color nuances in a jpg. If there's a gradient in the sky and the jpg format can't reproduce all the nuances in the gradient you'll get Banding. You can shoot jpg plus raw if this is a common problem for you.
@@thomasfransson not for photo for video im getting this issue
@@thomasfransson thank you Thomas I will take a look
@@thomasfransson Hi Thomas, where i can found those style for weddings? Can u give us link? Thanks
Heya! Sorry, I'm a bit desperate because your emulations look fantastic and it's not working. I downloaded everything and I can select the file I want on my user defined picture styles but I can't click on "OK" so I can actually use it (I use the Canon Eos M50). Do you know why this could be the case? Thank you so much!
It could be an unsupported or corrupt file. You could try another version of the eos utility software along with tryinga different USB cable.
These are not my profiles but a free online collection, so I don't know the status and format of all the included profiles.
I have since this video made my own profiles, also available online. Those are all confirmed compatible with the M50.
Bagdad Livs
Thanks!
My canon m50 does not support .pf3 when adding. how do i update?
It should be compatible right out of the box. Even older cameras are compatible with pf3 files. I think you just might have missed some step in the process. I have a how to guide on my channel. Maybe that will help you get it sorted.
Thank You!!!
You're welcome!
Can you teach me how to vintage picture, its have green light?
Do you mean adding filmgrain and that kind of stuff?
I've been using these picture styles on my M50 and love the outcome, but I'm looking to switch up my everyday camera to a Canon G7x II. Would these picture styles also work for that camera?
I believe they should.
They do I have the mark iii and they work great.
I installed the picture styles and test shot with them. I'm not seeing any difference in between the picture styles. They all look the same. Any tips?
I can not install all of them in my 6d, the unity program shows a massage "Unsupported file version" both .pf2 and .pf3 files. I don't know what am I did wrong.
How can I solve this problem. please help.
Hmm, that's weird. All of them or just some?
If you’re running the latest firmware on your 6D and the latest Eos Utility software it's either a bad file or maybe the picture style is based on a profile not supported by the camera.
I was made aware of this issue when I started to release my own Picture Styles and my latest pack included a coupled based on the "Fine Detail'
Before you give up, double-check the versions and procedure. And maybe try another set of profiles just to rule out any possibilities.
Cheers!
@ThomasFransson Oh, the firmware version triggers me because I have installed the Magic Lantern, which requires downing the camera firmware. Maybe it's an improper firmware issue.
I will try to upgrade to the latest version.
Thank you so much.
*_only 3 options to add user color preset in canon_*
Yes there's three custom slots.
Luckily it doesn't take more than a couple of seconds to change them.
Really nice Thanks! Do you have Kodak Portra 400 emulation for my Canon R5C ?
Thank you, these will work on all newer Canon models. From 2015 and forward according to Canon.
Will this work on all canon cameras? I have a 6d 7d and 100d love this video!
The pack contains both 2pf and 3pf files. Depending on the age of the cameras, some might only support the older 2pf files. You will know as soon as you transfer them to each camera.
@@thomasfransson after alot of faffing I finally got it to work, if you have a older Canon pre 2015 then you have to download eos utility 3 then go and download the eos utility 2 updater from canon for your camera (or closest model) you can then actually add these files, so for it works great on the 100d using utility 2 and canon 6d using utility 3 need to try it on my 7d and sl2. Just a shame I can't find classic chrome in the 158 to choose from 🤣
@@leightonsmith8092 thank you so much for giving my 100d a second chance!! It actually work! gonna try it tomorrow 🤩
thankyou =) any idea which simulation from the 158 would be closest to HP5? as it doesn't appear on the list =(
Sadly I don't. I hope you find a good one for that.
Great job! i have m50
Cool, thanks!
I love the m50! Almost wish I got the m50 instead of the SL2 today.
It's difficult to go back once you've tried a mirrorless ;)
Hi! I have a Canon 600D and was wondering if this will work on my camera too?
The 550D is reported to support these files so I believe it's safe to say it will work on the 600D as well.
Hi, will this film simulation recipes work on Canon G7X mark III?
I'm fairly sure it should.
@@thomasfransson Thank you so much for your reply. I am planning to get a G7x as Fuji is not releasing any 1-inch sensor pocketable powerhouse.
Hello there, I would be getting my R50 soon and would love to try this, however the download is now available anymore. Please help
Nice! Congratulations on your new R50!

@@thomasfransson Thank you. for the ones you have used in this video (astia, velvia, and kodachrome), which ones from your preset would help me get as close as these results? Thank you again
To be honest, after I started making my own I realized the look could be taken much further and become more film like.
I have a few kodak and Fuji inspired ones and more are about to drop within a week or so.
@@thomasfransson I've tried some of your presets and really liking it. Looking forward for more
I installed the picture styles and test shot with them. I'm not seeing any difference in between the picture styles. They all look the same. Any tips?
Not all picture styles in this pack are great.
Apart from that, it probably depends on what and how you shoot with them.
If you want a more defined look, you you should check out my custom picture styles. You'll find them on my channel. 4-5 videos about them.
Cheers.

would this work with a canon rebel t6i? i have this camera but i was also looking into a eos m50. if it works with this version of the t6i that would be great. i looked it up on google but no results showed up if it’s compatible. i believe it was made in 2015
If it can read pf3 files I will work.
I suggest you give it a go. Let me know if it works.
hi! the emulations will be visible also on the raw file once i import on lightroom? it will be possible to choose the color profile in lightroom or the raw film will be already affected with the film emulations settings?
Hi, these will only affect the jpgs.
Could you use those pressets in the m200, it is very similar to the m50.
Some might work. Try the pf2 files first.
This works at canon eos rebel line?
Yes it does
Thomas please help i love your filmic base but i can not put onto my 40d is there a way to punch in manualy?
It's probably because of the newer pf3 format not being supported on the 40D
I've not looked into resaving them picture styles as pf2. But maybe that can be done. I'll look into it. Keep your eyes open here on the channel.
@@thomasfransson thanks for evererthing you have done already keep up the good work

Hey just one question ..do we have to chk the output after installing one by one all 158 presets? Bcoz that's damn time consuming ..is there any other way to filter our favourites
Yes that will take some time to try them all. I would focus on the actual film emulations because a lot of the other ones are just super weird ;)
You could probably preview them in Canons picture style editor (Free software) but applying them to an image there.
Will this be available for R50?
Yes, R50 have been confirmed as working. Please be aware that some auto modes may disable the use of custom picture style.
Is There a Porter 400 look in the collection?
Don't think there is. 160
Dear Sir, do straight out of camera JPEGs from Canon Mirrorless cameras like Canon M 50 Mark II and G7X Mark III have a good dynamic range similar to Fujifilm XT 4?
You will be able to capture more information if you shoot RAW.
But i would suggest that you'd take a look at my own film simulation picture styles. They have a pretty soft curve and won't blow out your highlights as easy as others might
@@thomasfransson For sure. I am eager to test your recipes on my old Canon DSLR. 😍 I just downloaded them, a pack of three recipes right?
Hello ! How i can use picture style PF3 in canon 7D wich work with PF2 ?
Sadly it's not possible
@@thomasfransson thanks for your help
There's too much difference between the two including the types of changes that can be made and that's why it isn't possible to convert the files either.
Dear Sir,
Is film simulation also possible with the Canon Powershot G7x Mark III?
I'm not sure, check the manual or try google to see if it supports custom picture styles. If it does its all good.
Yes, it is! I did this to my G7X Mark II. The only difference is not to use EOS tool, but Picture Style File Registration Tool. You can find it on official Canon page, so no shady 3rd party solution. Those picture styles works great, and I would strongly suggest those made by Thomas himself. Love them! Love the JPG results straight out of camera.

I've done a more recent video on these and they're also free. You should check it out. There's a download link in the description of that video.
Can this be done in a 5D MARK III
Yes! Just use the dedicated Canon connect software for your model.
Have fun!
can i use this for my eos m3?
If it supports .pf2 or .pf3 files it will work. You could do a Google search on this or see if there's a EOS utility version available for your camera.
Does it support Rebel T7
Probably, if it supports .pf3
With what and how did you film the talking head? It looks so crisp, with no noise or compression banding!
Hi!
The talking head portion is shot on a Fujifilm X-T4 shooting in 2K DCI (h.265 10bit) using the Provia film emulation.
And then it's upscaled to 4K.
The lens is the Sigma 18-35. Both lens and camera produces very crisp images.
Hope thus helps.
Can this be done in a R6
Yes it will
does it work on 70d ?
Some will, probably just the pf2, but give the pf3 files a go too.
Can it work on canon 1500d?
Probably, if it supports .pf3
I was able to install .pf3 styles even onto 1100d.
i have a 350d lol doesnt work, its outdated asf
Yay! I have one of those too!
I know the pack linked in the description also includes older .2pf picture styles. So I think it's worth installing EOS utility and give it a try. Maybe it's able to handle .3pf too, I'm not sure.
But if it does I have a set of three filmic picture styles I made that you can download for free as well.
Let me know if it works, I've been meaning to bring out the 350 and give it a sensor cleaning and grab some shots with it.
