  • Step by step changing out the MAF Sensor on a 997.
Make sure to reset the ECU. Best to do it before you start it up again. Your car will have to relearn with the new MAF sensor. It is used to the old faulty one.
To reset my ECU, I disconnected the battery and connected pos and neg together for two days (at my mechanic's suggestion). Then, you'll need to drive (take it easy at first) it afterwards for an extended period of time, say 100 miles.

I figured out after a number of very frustrating months with fault codes about misfiring cylinders, etc that it was actually another root cause.
I had my engine replaced a couple of years ago, and when they reconnected the high pressure line for the power steering, they didn't use Loctite. Over time, it came loose, and power steering fluid started getting sucked into the air intake. That was the root cause. After I corrected that, I changed the spark plugs & ignition coils, changed the oil, and it's like a brand new car.

Hi, what are the symptoms when you have a faulty MAF? Thanks.

You might get a P2195 (or 96-98) error code (white engine-error on the display along with the engine light) that shows as an O2 sensor issue. This can be accompanied by a rough idle or hesitation on revving from idle.

@@ian-iveyI have very slight idle roughness & bouncy engine revs in neutral when slowly increasing rpm in neutral. Does that sound like a bad MAF or bad o2? No engine code. 36K miles 2007 turbo Thank you

@@tomburns890 Could be either, but I'd probably start with the MAF.

MAF looks quite reachable from the top, no?
