Porsche 997 Tandem Pump removal and replacement part 1/2

Very good vlog , I bought one and need to replace it. I am going to paint the new one before I fit it , so it doesn't rust .

That’s a great idea and it had crossed my mind but the one I removed was 15 years old and not leaking so I though I probably won’t care anyway in another 15 lol. But yes great idea. Great video. Looking to do this myself sometime. Maybe just change the cover as there were a couple out there (ninemeister) if they are still made. There wasn’t much oil that came out, did you drain it first?

The car had been standing for a few weeks but it’s well above sump level so apart from the pump itself the oil will naturally drain down. I tip. If you remove the pump don’t be tempted to turn the pump Keyway without covering it first as the remaining oil will fly out. Cheers.

Just noticed my 2007 c2 is leaking from this thing. You're right about the price thing, from the dealer it's almost $1,000 CAD and from every online resource it's around $500 CAD. Thanks for the video! Would you say it's possible to remove this without taking off the bumper/exhaust?

I would say you definitely need to remove the bumper and the heat shield. It can be done with the exhaust in situ. It’s fitting the new part that’s more important to make sure you seat it correctly and reinsert the vacuum pipe.

@@porscheminormechanicsrando8394 Would you say its impossible though? lol... I'm the type to rather spend 3 hours struggling to fit something in than take those 3 hours removing stuff in the way and putting it back. Almost always end up stripping other rusted bolts and what not and having to fix stuff I never intended to.

Just a thought! Remove the air filter and see if you can see it. You may be able to adapt some tools to get on the star drives. It will be difficult to free the vacuum pipe up I think.

@@porscheminormechanicsrando8394 Luckily I've had to buy all kinds of adapters for other strangely located stuff I've had to change on the 997 in the past. I'll let you know if it works with just the airbox out.
