Hi. Thank you to everyone who suggested this video for me to react to. If you have any more suggestions, feel free to drop them below. I really love this one and the more I watch of Tim Minchin, the more I am really enjoying his work. He really is a genius. Sorry about the copyright message across this one. I uploaded my original reaction but it was blocked for copyright so I added the message and that seems to work. It is not ideal and I hope it doesn't upset your viewing enjoyment too much. As I said in the message please go give the original video a view and show support for Tim's great work - ua-cam.com/video/IZeWPScnolo/v-deo.html
The one thing about this song that a lot of people miss is how petty it is. Sam told him a story about his mom so Tim didn't sleep till he wrote this song. The pettiness is brilliantly astounding.
Animated music, video of his song, white wine in the sun. The animated music video I believe, is actually better than the few live versions. Also him doing Matilda‘s, when I grow up with the three young Matilda‘s live on the Conan show, was absolutely effing fantastic! New to your channel. Can’t wait to check out the rest of your content.
My fav 2 lines are.."a mass delusion, the Emperor's New Clothes style fear of exclusion..and ' no it couldn't be the misdiagnosis of the initial condition' .so freaking wonderfully entertaining.❤
He has another amazing line in his Cardinel Pell song. Most people outside Australia won't know about Pell but his line was. "I hear a tolling of a bell and it has a Pellian knell"
Tim is a national treasure here in Australia! It blows my mind that more people don't know about him. You can't go wrong with any of his work but if you want to see some fire piano skills and amazing vocals, check out his song Dark Side. Love your thoughts on his songs and am looking forward to more Tim reactions :)
@@MertAus and then he follows it up with composing the music for Matilda the musical, and writing songs like this (from the TV show Upright - which he acts in) ua-cam.com/video/VCYzau2xato/v-deo.html
The simple answer to ‘why don’t more people know about him?’ Is that he’s challenging and creative and this is a bit too rich for the common man. That’s not to be elitist or sneery but look at the most watched comedy on telly in the U.K. (Mrs Browns Boys) and some of the pop music and it’s quite basic stuff. Minchin is just incredible
@@rosshunter9792 Yeah I totally get that. A lot of people watch tv to tune out and people like Tim make you think, which is why I love him, one of the reasons anyway.
this is my favorite song I've ever heard and I just click on reaction video after reaction video so that I can have the illusion of sharing music and thoughts that I love with a friend... even though almost everyone in my life is hyper religious and wouldn't make it past the first chorus without being angry with me.
Great reaction and breakdown of Tim's songs. Enjoying your discovery. Yes Tim is so intelligent and meticulous yet casual in the delivery. I think you would enjoy Storm, it's a beat poem and is just as sarcastic and witty and truthful as this one!
Absolutely brilliant I’m really enjoying your reactions to Tim especially as I agree 💯 with everything you’re saying. Tim actually describes himself as a musician first and says comedy just came along as a side act. He’s very humble. As you probably know he’s written whole Broadway musicals and he also starred as Judas in the Broadway production of Jesus Christ Superstar. His beat poem “Storm” might interest you but so many more to explore!! Thanks
Thank you so much for your kind comment. Ah ok I never knew he considered himself a musician first but it makes sense considering how talented he is at it. I will be checking out Storm soon
👋 Dr_KAP - as usual we view the same stuff on here - agree that Matt does a great breakdown of Tim's stuff and I really appreciate him not being American and not having to translate words or humour..........so nice when someone just 'gets' it.
He summed up a lot of reasons I can't believe in religion either. So glad you like Tim too. I adore his Dark Side (Awesome Version), his Christmas song White Wine in the Sun nails how about 85% of Australians feel about Christmas; Not Perfect, I love that one so much; Airport Piano is so groovy and wryly funny; If I didn't Have You (Full Uncut Version) is just super hilarious; really, there's just dozens I love by him.
@@MertAus Aye, it was performed as part of BBC's one and only Comedy Prom in 2011, with the BBC Concert Orchestra. (It's also the first time he performed the whole thing near flawlessly, hence the 'It's a miracle!' line at the end. )
I hadn’t thought about it but an export from the UK to Australia that binds us, that didn’t make it to the USA, was sarcasm… and irony. I so enjoy your free expression, when you are loved by a performance. I like your term “Showman” too, for what Tim does. You used it for John Farnham too. Apt. More than a performer, musician, comedian. It includes aspects of charisma and stage presence that in front of 10,000 it still feels like he’s singing to you, in your lounge room.
Excellence reaction, Tim has a lot of excellent songs from “Rock and roll Nerd” to “prejudice” and “Darkside” if you would like more on the religious side “come home cardinal Pell” and “The good book” are good ones
Thanks mate!! I will have a reaction to Prejudice this week and will definitely check out the others you have recommended. Looking forward to watching them all
You need to understand the back story to "Cardinal Pell" prior to listening to it. Since it is a reactionary song, it does not explain what it is actually reacting to. Understanding there was a Royal Commission to which Pell was being asked to return for; to answer questions about what he knew at the time, of the nefarious goings on of a fellow church person; is key to appreciating how cleverly written the song was.
Seeing someone discover Tim Minchin and experience his songs for the first time is so good. I ended up listening to many of my favorite songs all over again
Ah this takes me back. I got to see him live in '09 or'10 in St Kilda doing his so fuckong rock show. No orchestra for that one, but still one of the best comedy shows I've ever been to
From his Wiki page He graduated from the University of Western Australia (UWA) in 1996 with a BA in English and theatre, and from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts in 1998 with an Advanced Diploma in contemporary music.[12
Thanks I appreciate the comment. Next reaction will be Prejudice which will be uploaded on Tuesday or Wednesday but I will also check out Darkside soon too. Cheers
I love Tim. He's from Perth Western Australia where I am. Dive into his catalogue. Lots of funny songs and moving ones too. Great Xmas song is White Wine in the Sun. It gets devilish hot here. Masterpiece.
You can see such a Monty Python influence. He is just so multi talented on so many different platforms requiring huge intellect it is difficult to consider it possible (& yet he is still so underrated in his home country).Genius (& supposedly a really humble, lovely guy).
This was so much fun I can’t wait to see your other content. Hopefully you have white wine in the sun, sending love to you and yours from Orlando Florida.
You would also love his stage performance of Storm - it is wonderful - but a poem instead of a song - brilliant though. Plus every other suggestion here - just can't go wrong. You might want to check out his University speech on 9 life lessons - excellent, and true.
Tim is quite the genius, tbh. He learned piano at 8 years & only completed 3 years of training. He later returned to music & self taught himself the rest. His musical “Matilda” shows his innate level of talent. The combination of incredible compositions, clever lyrics, astute observations & phenomenal piano playing, make Tim a very unique type of talent.Yes, he’s unapologetically naughty but I really love his work!
This is my favourite Tim song. Absolutely rips the concept of the Christian (all powerful, all knowing, all loving) god to pieces. Just going through your other Tim reactions now. Rock n Roll Nerd is an underrated one, it’s one of his earlier ones and since you’ve mentioned how he’s part rock star, part comedian, I think you’ll like it

Really loved your reaction! You def have a new subscriber 😄😄 And I would recommend these Tim songs: - Prejudice (if you haven't heard it) - 3 minute song ( BBC version) - Some people have it worse than I - Not perfect (one of the more serious songs) - Canvas bags (this song also carries an important message that is important for Tim, as he is an activist for greener environment) - Carry you - one of new Tims songs from album "apart together". It's a serious song, but also very beautiful 💜 Good luck and I will be sticking around to seeing your rections 😄😄
Thank you very much for subscribing. I appreciate it. I uploaded my reaction to Prejudice yesterday but will definitely keep the rest on my to do list.
It is part of a major special with the Heritage Orchestra. Lots i=ofTim classics- If I Didnt Have You, Not Perfect, and the incredibly funny Prejudice, which I watch on reaction vids just to look at the listeners faces. One note- the sound of the performance was subdued relative to your commentary. Not sure if it was intended.
Thanks Paul. Yeah some of the videos seem to record lower volume than others. I am unsure why but it is not intended. I use OBS to record and always keep the same settings but afterwards some are different. Thanks for letting me know and I will aim to rectify the problem.
I think you'd like his series called Upright. Runs the full emotional spectrum and shows off his acting side. I've been binge watching the last two days. Tim has to get his upright piano from Sydney to Perth, is reliant on a teenager who is his total opposite when her arm is fractured when their vehicles swipe each other. Also starring Milly Alcock from House Of The Dragon fame.
Fantastic reaction thanks. Tim is a treasure, the kind of human the world needs more of. Keep it up, looking forward to more 👍🏽 More Tim? So much but some popular ones; Prejudice, Dark side, come home cardinal Pell…
Thank you very much for your kind comment. I appreciate it. He definitely is a great human. I feel like if everyone had a similar mindset to him, the world would be an awesome place.
16:51 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 the orchestration is so big LMAO this song wouldn’t have as big as a punch in the face if it didn’t have such a huge production and a huge build up story. I am crying laughing with you not at you.😊
Mate, just subscribed. If you love this you'll love all tim michin. He's a genius. Loads to recommend but i'll suugest "3 minute song" from graham norton show. You can't go wrong with this man.
I gave it a shot, but the audio for the performance is so low that it's not worth my time to max out my volume and risk an ad popping up and scaring the shit out of my dog. Too bad to because I love this bit.
I love your reactions to all of Tim Minchin's material! If you really want to see his musicianship on full display, check out his performance of his song "Dark Side". The version with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra is the best!
I know you have already reacted to The Pope Song - but it is well worth watching the version of that song from this performance with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra - it's excellent and has a wee extra bonus at the end!
Oh no, you've called out tim for being like elton john. You will have to react to "mitsubishi colt" to find out what happened to the last guy who did that.
I know you've already heard The Pope Song, but it's worth revisiting it to see the version he did with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra if only to see the entire orchestra shouting "F-er" on command for him. Dark Side is a cool commentary on the music business. If you like the religious stuff, Woody Allen Jesus is just plain silly fun (with his usual message), and don't miss "If I Didn't Have You" (watch the full version. It has a monologue at the end), which is a love song he wrote for his wife. if you want a change, though, to see his versatility, absolutely check out White Wine in the Sun, or I'll Take Lonely Tonight where he steps away from his comedy and you get to see the man who writes and produces Broadway musicals. I'm absolutely in love with his Peace Anthem for Palestine, but it's very short and simple and wouldn't necessarily make a good reaction video. Check it out for fun sometime. Good luck getting it out of your head afterward.
That sounds cool. I didn't realise there was a version of The Pope Song with an orchestra. That must be really interesting to see. My reaction to Dark Side will be uploaded on Friday. It is so cool to see that he had many types of work from funny to serious, music to traditional comedy and so much more. I will definitely be working my through all of his content over the coming while so thank you for your suggestions I appreciate them all and your comment.
Love your reaction to Tim mirrors my own 😂 plrease react to Darkside it probably best shows his extreme talent as a musician and Lullaby my personal favorite as it saved my sanity on sleepless nights with an undiagnosed lactose intolerant baby ❤
Awesome that is cool to hear we have similar thoughts. My reaction to Dark Side will be uploaded on Friday this week. Oh cool I like the sound of a Lullaby as I have a young son and another baby on the way in January. Sounds like it will be relevant
Great reaction, but yes, the audio was too low, and there's some electrical hum in the background. Toms skills are bloody amazing, and his non-comedic songs are exceptional too. As an almost complete opposite performance, try Drowned.. it's the most beautiful sad song I've ever heard..
I think the electrical hum is my fan. My microphone picks it up for some reason. If I turn the fan off then I am sweating buckets (I live in Malaysia). Will try and rectify it but thanks for letting me know. Ok will check out Drowned soon. It sounds quite interesting. Cheers
@@MertAus I think what my friend was trying to tell you, apart from the fan, the audio is way too low for the level of you voice. It's hard to listen to when your voice dominates the art. Apart from that...
Just found your channel. Reaction vids are great but mostly viewers will be very familiar with the material being reacted to, we want to see your face and listen to your thoughts, so switch the images, make the material small and your own image bigger. I want to see your facial expressions so I can tell if your picking up on the real meaning.
That makes sense. Actually I have been unsure how I should make the video (whether to put myself as the big screen or the video) so have been sticking with me being on the small video as I thought people might prefer to see the artist on the big screen. But totally get where you are coming from so may switch it up soon.
Most proper religious people were brought up with it, taught it from a very young age hence the blind faith and almost inability to drop it in adulthood. Self perpetuating lie. Take a look at the number of adults who were not brought up with religion, that turn to it in adulthood. It happens for sure, but it's hardly a significant number. That in and of itself should be indicative...
Well perhaps you can learn from it. There also a book called the bible and mentioned in it. Fix up your own backyard, before you worry about anyones elses. Yes, church, goverments.... and juat about ever organised institutions are responsible for all kinds of atrocities. What are you responsible for. Further more. Gods religion is the law and Gods religion is life. See if you can understand that profound staement.
As for praying, has god EVER grown back anybody's limbs ? No ? Has ANY pilot ever landed an airliner using prayer ? No ? Has the bible supported slavery, genocide and child exploitation ? Yes. Read the old testament and weep.
(a)gnostic and (a)thiest refer to 2 different spectrums. agnostic is if you can have knowledge of something and athiest if you believe in theism. to just say "i am agnostic" doesn't refer to if you believe or not. an agnostic theist believes in theism despite believing its not possible to know if theism is true. a gnostic athiest believes it's possible to know if thiesm is true and does not believe it to be true. what you say here sounds like an agnostic athiest. athiesm is often misunderstand a anti-thiesm. while that is within the umbrella of athiesm, it is not the whole. you can be athiest without being anti-theist.
if you say you are an agnostic you are an atheist. it is a binary proposition. the question is do you believe in Gob/Gods? if you answer with anything other then yes you are an atheist. in my opinion more people need to just come out and use the work atheist. as it stands it looks like there are less atheist then there actually are do to people not wanting to use the word. i understand why some people do not. you can catch a lot of flack from people that do not understand what is means to be an atheist. all it means is they did not answer yes to the god question. it tells you nothing about any of there other opinions. if you want to know how someone thinks on a topic ask them. that goes for people that answer yes to the god question. you need to ask them about there other opinions.
Just want to point out agnostic and atheist are not exclusive. One deals with knowledge the other deals with belief. If you don't have a god you are atheist. Being a gnostic atheist is as stupid as being gnostic anything. Gnosticism is theoretical only simce absolute knowledge is impossible.
A good one to watch for his piano skills is Dark side (awesome version) and for vocals maybe a performance of his run in Jesus Christ Superstar as Judas Escariot
yeah i dont hate religion either because some people get great comfort in delusion , but what i do hate a religious people trying to stand over me to make me follow their particular rules, i really despise that, just because YOUR book says YOU cant eat ice-cream in the park on a Thursday doesn't mean i cant eat ice-cream in the park on a Thursday
I agree mate, thanks for letting me know. I use OBS to record and sometimes the sounds levels are different for some reason. I will try to not let it happen again. It is annoying even for me when I edit it. Cheers!!

He is a genius
Poor Sam triggered him good 😂😂
hahaha so true. Amazing how he turned it into such a fascinating piece of work
I think you'd like his series called Upright.
Keep it up, looking forward to more 👍🏽
More Tim? So much but some popular ones; Prejudice, Dark side, come home cardinal Pell…
Thank you very much for your kind comment. I appreciate it. He definitely is a great human. I feel like if everyone had a similar mindset to him, the world would be an awesome place.
16:51 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 the orchestration is so big LMAO this song wouldn’t have as big as a punch in the face if it didn’t have such a huge production and a huge build up story. I am crying laughing with you not at you.😊
Tim went on to do Broadway production
When the music changes it becomes a Samba, for Sam's mum.
Mate, just subscribed. If you love this you'll love all tim michin. He's a genius. Loads to recommend but i'll suugest "3 minute song" from graham norton show. You can't go wrong with this man.
Thank you for the subscription. I really appreciate it. Will check out the 3 Minute Song soon. Cheers mate
Thanks Todd. I appreciate it. My reaction for Dark Side will be uploaded on Friday. Cheers mate
Storm, White wine in the sun, Dark side (awsome version), Confessions, Prejudice, If I didn't have you - full uncut version are good to review
I love that you enjoy the humour. Sarcasm/snark is pretty highly valued in Australia. :D
I know you have already reacted to The Pope Song - but it is well worth watching the version of that song from this performance with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra - it's excellent and has a wee extra bonus at the end!
He sing the truth and pays out people's stupidity and contradictions🦘🇦🇺👍
Oh no, you've called out tim for being like elton john. You will have to react to "mitsubishi colt" to find out what happened to the last guy who did that.
haha have I made a rookie mistake? I will make a reaction to Mitsubishi Colt and see the error of my ways
Hahahaha
Royal Albert Hall in London I think
Yep it's brilliant...and if you love the ones you've seen then youre gunna love *Prejudice*
Where is that theater Minchin is performing in?
Hopefully someone knows
@@MertAus l believe it my be the Royal Albert Hall in London
I was thinking Sydney Opera House, given the shape of the theatre, but I could be entirely wrong on that.
For the algorithm
Thanks mate
I wonder what Sam's mum thanks of the song??
This song is not only brilliantly written but also spot on.
If you haven’t already check out George Carlins bit “religion is bullshit”.
Yes that is true. It is so well written but it makes it better that everything he said is so correct. Ok will check out the George Carlin piece soon
Great reaction. I love Tim’s song lullaby. It also kept me sane when I had my babies.
My vote goes to "Cont"
Thanks Kathryn!!
The Elton john comment is funny..please react to his beat poem, mitsubishi colt..you will understand why
I'm with you on religion. I don't have any issues with other people's belief. Just don't force your beliefs on me
If you compare Tim to Elton John you should do the song Mitsubishi Colt
Someone else mentioned this too so I will for sure check it out soon. Thanks mate

Try ‘Song for Wossy’
Will do mate thanks!!
Who did this God allow to be cured of Covid?!? lol
"Allow to be cured" is crazy 💀
No sound. Bye.
Organised Religion is not something I believe in.
A good one to watch for his piano skills is Dark side (awesome version) and for vocals maybe a performance of his run in Jesus Christ Superstar as Judas Escariot
Nice. As much as I am enjoying Tim's comedy and writing, I am enjoying his musical ability just as much. Such an impressive guy
yeah i dont hate religion either because some people get great comfort in delusion , but what i do hate a religious people trying to stand over me to make me follow their particular rules, i really despise that, just because YOUR book says YOU cant eat ice-cream in the park on a Thursday doesn't mean i cant eat ice-cream in the park on a Thursday
Bro keep in mind: when the clip is considerably quieter than your mic volume, it’s quite jarring for headphone listeners
I agree mate, thanks for letting me know. I use OBS to record and sometimes the sounds levels are different for some reason. I will try to not let it happen again. It is annoying even for me when I edit it. Cheers!!
To call him brilliant and clever is drawing a really long bow talentless
