Thanks to everyone who suggested this one. It was a pleasure to watch. As I mentioned on the video I never knew what to expect with the name but it was an amazing story and performance. As I also mentioned, I have never watch a full poetry type performance like this but it was very enjoyable. So different to his other performances that I have seen so far but possibly my favourite due to how he was able to paint a vivid picture in my head of the situation he is describing. Very clever writing. Keep recommending more of his performances to check out and recommend some other comedians that I should watch also. Thanks!!
I think Darkside (awesome version) is an epic performance. Another Aussie comedian worth checking out would be Jim Jefferies, not as highbrow or articulate but speaks some truths and tells a great story and is crass and irreverant.
If you want to check out some oldies, look up Victor Borge. He was a danish comedian/pianist, very funny and one of Tim Minchins idols (He even namedrops him in a song, tho I can't remember which) ua-cam.com/video/TIf3IfHCoiE/v-deo.html This is comedy only ua-cam.com/video/R9UN3xFBCcw/v-deo.html this is him on the piano. Enjoy! 😁😁
There's some amazing lines in this that can't be said better imo "Throughout history, every mystery ever solved has turned out to be not-magic" is my favourite line
Love it, yes Tim articulates how we think. He is so on point, I love the line about science adjusts it's view based on observations whereas faith ignores observations to preserve belief. What is amazing is I've seen other performances of this poem and he is word for word perfect everytime.
That was a very interesting point that he made and one which I am fully in agreement with. It is great to see a performer saying things like this as I don't think there are many others who do.
There is one more Tim Minchin video you have to watch, a few years ago he delivered a speech at the University of Western Australia on life lessons and it is one of the best speeches ever
The first few times I heard Storm I enjoyed it, and admired the deftness of his word smithing, yet didn't think I enjoyed it as much as his songs. Now Storm is one of my favourite Minchin pieces.
That is interesting. It is interesting how a persons opinion on another people's work can change over time. Things like age and life experience can lead to appreciating things in different ways.
You break up the brilliance of Tim he's a genius, I've seen this as part of the whole show and it is so hard to enjoy when it is being dissected like this, no disrespect intended, I know that this is your format, cheers!!🥰💕
Really enjoying your reactions. You’ll soon see Tim also has some very fun/funny songs that aren’t serious at all as well as a few serious ones which are also pretty special. White Wine in the Sun, a beautiful Aussie Christmas song and a favourite of many Aussies! See you next time! Ps John Edward is an American medium who does those talk to the dead audience shows 😂
It is cool that not only can he be incredibly funny but he can also make serious performances to. That makes him very unique. Awesome I am a big Christmas fan so looking forward to hear an Aussie Christmas song. Ah ok thanks I never knew of John Edward but know several of those types of people from the UK.
Highly recommend Back to the Outback movie made by and with him as the voice of Pretty Boy the Koala 😁 Plus both seasons of Upright! Do yourself a favour!
I love how many people point out that it's usually called a tramp stamp in English slang ^^ where I'm from it's called ass antlers - translated at least xD ETA: I love that he uses his acting skills in this, just sprinkling it in ❤
I realize he's spent months, maybe even years, to perfect this beat poem but there have been times I wished I could be this articulate in a discussion with at least one of the many people like this I've had the misfortune to encounter.
Loving your reactions, especially as a huge Tim fan. I would suggest watching some Bo Burnham....he was heavily influenced by Tim when he was starting out. He has some incredible stuff and has been on quite the mental health journey over the years. Whilst some of his really early stuff is awesome, I would suggest 'welcome to the internet' or '5 Years' as great intro's to Bo......then you can explore the back catalogue if you enjoy :)
Thanks Dominique. I appreciate it and I am also becoming a fan of his too. Yeah a few other people have recommended Bo Burnham so I will definitely check out some of his stuff soon. People have mentioned him but not mentioned that he was influenced by Tim so it will be cool to see how he compares to him. I will check out the ones you have mentioned.
I imagine you’ll get a lot of great suggestions for Tim (Mitsubishi colt) if you’re interested in checking out more poetry (no backing music though) I’d recommend checking out Watsky. He’s an american rapper, he went viral back in the day for his video Pale Kid Raps Fast, who’s done quite a bit of slam poetry. I’d recommend Leopards & Horseshoes or S is for Lisp which is probably his most popular one.
Yeah some people recommended Mitsubishi Colt due to me comparing Tim with Elton John so I am intrigued to see why that would be. Thanks for the Watsky suggestion to. After seeing Storm I would be interested to see other people perform in this way too. That sounds good
If you are interested in getting into more poetry, you could try Taylor Mali "What do teachers make?" as a short intro to slam-style poetry or Shane Koyczan's "To this day" about bullying. There are lots of great examples constantly being added on Button Poetry.
There is a similar act called Garfunkel and Oats, which is a pair of female comedians from America. Musically, they are not as skilled, and they may be more crude, but the speed of their lyrics is pretty impressive. They take on a few social issues ("Rainbow Connection," and some songs are just for humor's sake "Self Esteem." But a few are actually really tender if you actually listen to them. "You are Such a Loser" is one such song. Tim also has serious and sweet songs. "Not Perfect," "Beauty," and "White Wine in the Sun" aren't really funny. They have humor, but they've been known to make people cry. In a good way. Not in a "Song for Phil Daoust" way.
Cool, I have never heard of Garfunkel and Oats before but I will have a look at them also. Sounds like their work would be right up my street. Thanks for the suggestion. Yeah I am looking forward to seeing more different sides to Tim. I love how multifaceted he is. He can really create so many types of work and it is a pleasure to work my way through them. It really is a wonderful journey.
So at this point I think you're ready for the "Dark Side" Awesome Version! But please for your sake make sure you pick the awesome version Sydney orchestra one is good too but nowhere near as awesome! Love your reactions keep it up!
You should check out "Mitsubishi colt" - It has both the beat poetry style vocals and amazing piano playing. Angry (Feet) is another pure poetry performance.
The inability to google is what more or less drives me insane with some people. They don't know something. They make an assumption. They just go with that assumption. But you can just like...look it up? There's no need to pull stuff from your ass.
Yesss so true. People really are so lazy that they would prefer to have an uneducated opinion rather than research a subject to have more rounded and informed view.
For a sweeter less cynical take on Tim, try White Wine in the Sun, or Not Perfect. I see some folks have brought up Bo Burnham, another astounding performer with a huge catalog that goes back to his teens on the internet. Severl Netflix specials under his belt. Can't Handle This, The Kanye Rant is probably the Keystone between his early work and the new content of his Inside special. I like to watch his reaction videos just to watch the responses.
Thanks Paul, I will check out White Wine in the Sun and Not Perfect soon. Will definitely have some Bo Burnham reactions coming soon as many people have suggested him and I really want to see what he is like. Cheers!!
If you're going to raise a family here, Brisbane, Adelaide or Perth are better options than Melbourne. I'm a QLDer, so I would say Brisbane is the best, but either Brisbane or Adelaide are close (in Australian terms) to Sydney and Melbourne to visit, but you get a more laid back lifestyle (and cheaper!)

@@jemxs I’ll add my vote for Dark Side Awesome version

@@crazyratlady3026 Tim Minchin mention Victor Borge in the 3 minute song
There's some amazing lines in this that can't be said better imo "Throughout history, every mystery ever solved has turned out to be not-magic" is my favourite line
Especially when referring to Scooby Doo with a Scooby/Shaggy style voice!
Yeah that was a very true and well written line
He's the most intelligent, reality watching, and articulate comedian I've ever seen. He's a genius
If you want to give yourself a treat watch "upright" an Aussie movie he wrote and starred in. Great yarn in true Minchin style❤❤
It is awesome, but it's a 2 season, TV series, not a movie.
Love it, yes Tim articulates how we think. He is so on point, I love the line about science adjusts it's view based on observations whereas faith ignores observations to preserve belief.

Best speech ever! I have watched it SO many times!
Love that you get that he speaks on a number of issues within his comedy
Isnt Tim.Minchin the best rabbit hole to go down
Scum is NOT too strong a word! I’m enjoying your enjoyment of the amazing Tim
If you want to see him act, check out his series Upright. He wrote and stars in it. It’s absolutely brilliant
He's amazing, his mind is unfathomable, he is a true gift to his family and this world, his brilliance is stunning, I'm in awe of such genius !!!!!!!
Nice to see Tim appreciated.
Brilliant reaction. You're really flipping through the catalogue👍👍 Mitsubishi Colt is a piece similar technique and brilliance
Mitsubishi Colt will be coming soon. Thanks for the comment
Anything Tim Minchin is brilliant the man is a musical literary comedic genius. Loving your reactions ❤
Thanks Caro. I really appreciate. He truly is a genius
Absolutely a pleasure watching you enjoy and dissect this. Minchin is amazing.
You break up the brilliance of Tim he's a genius, I've seen this as part of the whole show and it is so hard to enjoy when it is being dissected like this, no disrespect intended, I know that this is your format, cheers!!🥰💕
WHY, OH WHY does no one ever talk about the glass of wine?!?! It's actually my favourite joke from the entire thing!!
Ps John Edward is an American medium who does those talk to the dead audience shows 😂
White Wine in the Sun would be great as we head towards Chrissy. Let's start Christmas early 😂
It is cool that not only can he be incredibly funny but he can also make serious performances to. That makes him very unique. Awesome I am a big Christmas fan so looking forward to hear an Aussie Christmas song. Ah ok thanks I never knew of John Edward but know several of those types of people from the UK.
I highly recomend you watch his 9 Life Lessons speech. Very impactful.
Yep fantastic advice!
Sounds great, will check it out soon thanks
Highly recommend Back to the Outback movie made by and with him as the voice of Pretty Boy the Koala 😁
Plus both seasons of Upright!
Do yourself a favour!
His song about Cardinale Pell was a banger as well
Brilliant reaction mate!!!!! Subscribed!
Thank you Kim. I appreciate the kind words and for your subscribing.

I love that he uses his acting skills in this, just sprinkling it in ❤
Great reaction, as always . Keep it up mate ,you're doing well.
Thanks Macman. I appreciate it!
I had to watch this beat poem a few times to really pick up everything you noticed on your first view :) nice job and enjoyed your reaction
Thanks Mey Khou. This one I definitely felt like I had to listen very intently to make sure I picked up as much as I could.
I realize he's spent months, maybe even years, to perfect this beat poem but there have been times I wished I could be this articulate in a discussion with at least one of the many people like this I've had the misfortune to encounter.
Took me 3 videos to realize you're saying "Writing" not "Rating" 😄
To stand in the fog of inability to Google. My wife!
Science is the truth who pays the most.

Next (Tim Minchin - If I Didn't Have You) And it also have a funny tale with it. 😁
That sounds interesting. Dark Side will be my next reaction but I will do this one soon too
Nice reaction. I'd suggest Mistubishi Colt if you want to hear his amazing piano work. It's another beat poem like this one...
Love to see you react to "What is AFL?".
Ok will check this out soon. Thanks!

Yeah this one will be coming soon. Several people recommended this because I compared Tim to Elton John so I am intrigued to know why that would be.

If you're after suggestions on other poets mine is: Jamie DeWolf, "The God and the Man" / Snap Judgment LIVE
Watched your other TIm Minchin reactions bro. Checkout a movie called Religulous, pretty sure you'll enjoy it. All the best.
Thanks for the suggestion. Will definitely check it out

do the "The good book" since you seemed to like his bits on religion and critical thinking
That sounds right up my street. Will check it out soon. Thanks mate

Hey dude! Love the channel. I'd love to see you react to Tom MacDonald, "People So Stupid.."
Thanks Ceevro. Appreciate it. Ok will check that one out soon.
Cleverness with words... obviously talented with music, but his verboseness is incredible.
I'd love to be that good with words,.verbosity,. merlot, I believe
Yeah not only good with words but his musical ability is so impressive. Can't wait to see more of his work
Angry (feet) and Mitubishi Colt are also great beat poems if you're looking for more from Tim Minchin
Oh cool. That is interesting he has more material in this format. Will check them out for sure
