I just found you,WOW1 someone with a head full of knowledge, is articulate, doesn't rely on antics to be interesting and easy on the eyes. It seems that you have had some training, in public speaking, you are a breath of fresh air. your comfort with subject matter, and ease with which you use your tools definitely speaks to your knowledge and experience, great videos, keep on delivering this quality of videos and your future is in good shape!
I watched several videos on how to replace this cable before I found your video. The other videos just didnt make things clear on how to remove the old cable or replace the new cable. Yours is by FAR the best, most instructive, easy to understand video of all of them. I can confidently say that I can replace my own kill cable on my lawn mower. I appreciate your advice also on how to avoid this problem from happening again. I never knew any of that! Thank you!!! I will subscribe to your channel for more tips on how to repair things. Great video!
I agree, I watched a couple others and hers is by far the best for all the reasons you addressed. I think I can do it if I can just find the cable now!
My mower lives in wet western Washing---ton outside with no cover in the car port, never had to replace the control cable, the little plastic lock clip snapped off, but a hose clamp fixed that problem, the biggest problem I find with mowers are the cheap thin mower decks that like to rust out,, :(
OMG you have done it again Bre! The blokes (men) who do these videos SECRETLY take off the cable AND then show it to you. How they did it nobody knows. But you have BRAINS and actually show every step to us dumb blokes (men). WOW!
Omg! I have been watching video after video, but none helped me with what I was looking for to help me repair my own mower. I almost gave up but googled a lil more & then I found you. You are exactly who I was looking for. This is exactly the issue I'm having. And, that the first thing you started off with & the entire video was about it. Straight to the point, simple instructions, the tools needed & the correct name of the part. I will be doing this, this weekend & I will come back and let you know how it turned out. Ttyl for now.🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽for me. I should do well because I've worked on cars before & this looks pretty easy.🙌🏾
I thought my problem with a tight cable would be too complicated for a UA-cam fix, but your suggestion to put lubricant in the sheath worked! Initially I thought the brake mechanism could be "stuck" as it was difficult to move by pulling on the lever and spring manually. Thank you Chickanic - I'll seek your advice again I'm sure for another small engine problem that arises!
This lady is badass. The most respect she gets from me is she works all week on mower trimmers and blowers then on the weekend what does she do? Grab another piece of equipment for a video.
Thank you so much for saying that! I don't put it in my videos, because I don't know if the viewers want to be bothered seeing it, but my husband and I also tend a 40x50 garden everyday when we come home from work. Just got done canning salsa and making pickles! Thanks for watching!
OMG. A you tube celebrity wrote back to me. I'm humbled! Lol I know all about the John Deere mowers, kinda shameful to see what a billion dollar company puts their name on and sells these days.
always check your videos when i have a problem, you have been a big help to me. my control cable was frozen and i bought a new one. it moves the lever very little and the engine wont start. pry it some and it works. tried unscrewing the ends but it still dosent move the lever far enough. at a loss.
Brand new Briggs and Stratton mower straight out the vox and my brake control wasn't even connected. You saved me a lot of time and money! Thank you! Liked and subscribed!
Great informative video. Most of my customers have no Idea what that cable does. Sometimes I get older machines with cables that are stretched and won't pull the switch open enough to unground the kill wire .
Thank you, Bre. You saved my bacon with this video. You made the repair seem easy, but I'd have never figured it out on my own. I have this exact same Troy-Bilt mower, and it's still my favorite all-time push mower due to its light weight, solid reliability (okay, the control cable snapped, but the cable lasted for years), and easy DIY service. Compared to my much more expensive but too-complex self-propel BBC Honda HRX217, I'd take this TB in an *even swap* every time.
You really explained this well. I found the part & ordered it but i wasn't able to figure out that clip by the motor! Im going to go try it again. Thanks!
Thank you so much, this helped me fix my lawn mower! You were right, the control cable was tight after not using it all winter and I forced it and snapped it. I will lubricate it next time 👍
Thank you SO much for this video! I looked and looked to find how to attach the cable. Your video was the BEST hands down. I just subscribed! Nicely done!
Those MTD cables are notorious for breakage at the plastic hook point of the cable but as long as there is still a piece left that goes into the hole we use Gorilla tape wrapped around it to hold it in place. Works like a charm and saves the customer around $20 Cdn.
@@philliphall5198 Also a good idea but 99% of our customers at Eliminator Performance want the cable replaced and since we carry at least one cable for everyone we have replaced over 9 years we normally have the required cable in stock for a fast return for our customers.
Great instruction video! Thanks as always for sharing! Ya know, small engine mechanics face a different kind of problem when working these little working wonders. Well if you are working on multi- cylinder engines and you have one or more misfiring once in a while it may go unnoticed, but you let one of these one cylinder jobs misfire, then you have to fine the problem or ya just ain't gonna run! Words of wisdom from an old shade tree mechanic....
Thanks much ,very easy to follow with your guidance , ordering from Amazon has been a challenge to me ,so for someone who wants an easier fix yet ,take spring off throttle lever and move lever without cable ,motor will start ,to shut off just return lever opposite direction.🙂🤔 My huskavarna mower has a similar cable ,but like you said cables may have different lengths. Thanks .
Cheers Chickanic, very helpfull clips and nuggets of info like to always have the cable part number as there are virtually hundreds of different styles of cable out there. Thank you.
You really do need to have your own tv show. You are super pawsome! Da Bear loves your videos. You know your stuff and are confident when explaining. That is what Da Bear is talking about....oh yeah! :)
Do cables STRETCH? I once couldn't start me mower and a friend quickly diagnosed I had to push or pull on the bracket close to the engine. Lol the body rusted and the wheel fell off anyway. But that problem baffled me. Thanx Chicanic I've been subscribed for while!!
Great demonstration and close up video of the components. I'm having troubles with one of my mower cables, the one that controls the drive wheels. This video was helpful to me. Thanks
Such great videos for people that don’t know these things. I know how to but enjoy learning tricks and find easier ways of doing things. Keep up the great work
New subscriber and love your attitude. Helping people is a blessing. Zip ties work, are unsightly, dangerous ( most folks do not know the proper way to cut them and leave a sharp point in the cut end, causing injury should you brush against them) lastly they are a consumable ($)........Velcro is your friend. I look forward to your next video :))
Good clear entertaining video. I have a concern about your comment @1:25 about engine dying after starting being a carburetor issue. That's just not so and may mislead the unknowing to really get in over their head by messing with the carburetor needlessly. I take it as a given you include all fuel delivery issues (and there are many) and bad fuel in that comment but people should eliminate the most likely causes of stalling before they mess with the carburetor.
Great video, where were you 99 headaches ago? Question, if the label is gone with serial #, and cable #'s are gone what is the next option. I have a Honda MTD 21 inch Acs but can't seem to get any info on it. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.
"Fix Everything Mechanical" here, another great video chalk full of info. I can appreciate the amount of time it takes to make these videos. If your like myself, you work from daylight to dark. So thanks for taking the time out of your busy season to make them. They are extremely helpful when learning about small motors both Gas and DC like i am. How's ya'll weather up there? It fixing to get unstable down here in the boot state. Might get alittle hairy w/ the GUlf acting up. Ya'll be safe up there. Till next time. Cool Video.. S.J,
Chickanic, HELP!! that is good info. I was wondering if there is any connection to the governor or throttle from the kill wire. I was wondering when the bell handle is pulled back if it also controls any part of the carburetor. I have a Craftsman M110 14cc push mower.
Have an almost new, but 2nd hand cheap, little mower for doing around my off grid tiny cabin. The bears keep knocking the shed door in and chewing off the cables, primer bulb and gas filler cap. I need to fix the bears. Maybe wire up some kind of kill switch?
Super informative! I have a back yard full of nice mowers that have very little wrong with them that I will now take care of due to some of the information!
Good explanation! If you are looking for material, you should do a chainsaw video. People don't understand the operation of the chain brake, how to determine the right direction to install the chain, how to sharpen the chain, what to do if its flooded, and I'm sure you can think of more.
I have an Echo string trimmer that is really old. I believe it was manufactured in 2000. It is froze up, pull cord will not pull at all. I saw a video that a guy put some Lucas oil in some diesel and put it in the spark plug hole, re-install the plug and let it set. After a day or two he was able to free it up. What do you think? Or could you post a video on how to fix a frozen up string trimmer. Thanks and keep the videos coming
Hi, am hoping you can answer me this. I have a Snapper 82v push mower. All of a sudden, both the main motor doesn't start, as well as the self propelled motor. When I try starting it, all I hear are three beeps from the battery. In your opinion, would the cable replacement you outlined here resolve my current issue?
Okay my question is i have an old either Briggs and Stratton or Muary lawnmower and the donner equipment that i have is the new handles that are on the new Murary lawnmower and that may misspelled but anyway i am wondering how to change the cable out and get it back in working order thank you ma'am.
Thank you. So my 12 year old mower will start on first pull with bail handle not being pulled back. The kill switch wire is connected to switch and i believe to coil how to fix the kill switch. It all moves but mower won’t stop. Is it possible that the switch is bad?
I have a similar TB mower but it is rear wheel drive with the crazy vari speed handle. The handle that engages the drive cable keeps breaking. Any thoughts?
I swear that the bracket holding the cable with prongs is not large enough to pull the wire out. When I look at yours, it appears that the bracket opening is much larger than mine. Any ideas?
How can I determine my cable part number? only have partial from conduit. the ID tag on deck is illegible. one end it T and other end that connects to brake is z bend.
I want to add a throttle to my push mower to vary engine speed. When the engine is running at full throttle (not adjustable), and I get near my gravel driveway, stones are sucked up and fly everywhere! I need to slow the engine down! Any ideas?
