In this video I show you how to easly fix a lawnmower cable that has a broken end. It is not about saving $15 on a new cable it is about being able to use the mower while you wait for parts which can take several days. Disclaimer:

Wow! This video is such a godsend. Not only will it save money, I get great satisfaction in learning to fix things myself. Thank you!
Thank you for making this video. My cable broke today in the same spot and now I can repair it.
Thanks for this. I tried it and it worked. Looks like it might last a good while.
I used 3mm aluminium wire, also call 16 gauge I think. 1/16 inch would be 1.5 mm which would probably be too thin.
Also instead of crimping I used a 3mm duplex egg shaped screw clamp. That was a good decision as I had to adjust the length and was able to undo and redo them clamp.
Great fix! Much quicker and easier than soldering an end on it.
Hey, thanks. It was just the fix l was looking for. A trip to the hardware store and a couple bucks later, l was back mowing the lawn. Thanks again.
Great tip, and that pipe tool is pretty handy. Thanks for the link to order crimp sleeves.
Liked your channel a while back and a couple of months ago stumbled across Taryl Channel so great info
Great fix! I subscribed!!! I stumbled on this while trying to ID or find a fix for a broken traction cable for a Brute mower with no model number. Ugh!
Thanks! I am going to try it on my lawnmower!
Thank you much! I was about to go buy a new mower because the repair guy wanted $150+
Man You are the MAN I am glad I watched your video. You saved me a lot of time and money. Thank You
Thank you for all your videos God knows how much they have helped me. God bless you and your family.
Brilliant!! I especially like that homemade tool. Thanks!!
+A LeBlanc Thanks for watching. That tool comes in handy.
Thank you Sir, very helpful this video
Nice video I love TARYL he knows his stuff
I think that looks pretty good! Personally I wouldn't waste time building that little tool because needle nose pliers work just as good. I stumbled upon those double ferrules at Home Depot yesterday. They want $1.50 for two of them so 50 for $4 is a steal.
Great information. Presented in a way a DIY with some know how, can get it done.
Hi can i ask , did you just flatten the copper pipe . Or use something as a guide.
Thank you for this post. It is genius!
Great video double wide 6
Thanks for the video. I plan to repair, instead of buying, the next lawn mower cable. It's just a matter of time.
Good Info. Thank you for sharing as well as for the tool at the end of the video.
+Carmen Luna Thanks happy you found it helpful.
Sure did Brother! Keep on SHARING your knowledge. Some one IS watching!
Very good video thank you sir!
Thanks man!!
Nice as usual. Thank you!
+Nathan Hilbig Thanks for the compliment.
Nice fix
I like that idea !!
Tarril is a bad ass !!
Well done sir😊
great info, I'll have to try that, thanks!
+Alan Marshall Easier to buy a cable, but if your in a pinch it will work.
I broke a Cub Cadet pto cable that operates off a lever. Any way to crimp or put 2 pieces of the same size cable in the video together?
I need to fix my cable with your method but I need to know where I can get those clips you use? Thanks
Thank you.I have a platinum Sears pushmower with the ez drive system. The cable broke into.Went to order it and said the famous"obsolete"on the cable.I then noticed the cable with the ez handle assembly.Sears instead of offering just the drive cable they make you buy the whole handle assembly with cable.Instead of a 20.00 cable you have 60.00 plus shipping.F SEARS.They deserve to go out.Anyways thank you.I fixing it with ferrules from lowes and a new bike inner cable.
These cables are so expensive, I'm going to try and fix them when I get one that has a bad end - Thanks
Thank you! I broke my cable and need to cut my lawn before Easter!
I like the tool for removing the cables
Got me a nice piece of copper pipe for that tool.
The grass rats , come up with great advice .
+Peter Froud Agree I learn a lot from Taryl. He is the man!
awesome idea!
+knighthawk86855 Thanks hopefully it holds up for me.
thanks for the video
+Phil falzone sr Welcome happy you enjoyed it.
You can just use a open end, or box end wrench to pop those cable clips off. That way you don't have to waste time making an additional tool.
DW6 you are a trip bro. I sub'ed
Good job! Thx much. -saw-
What size/type of pliers are those?
Great video dw6! I think there could be another way of doing this. I would use steel wire so its stronger than aluminum. I would then tack weld the crimp connector to both wires if you have a welder. That should hold a long time. Hope you don't burn thru the cable though.
+Love2boat92 Solder would work well.
doublewide6 That's another option.
Good shit bruh
nice. I'd be interested to know how long you can use that cable before the aluminum wire slips out.
+Josiah Hill Really long. Soldering it would have really made it bullet proof.
And there's your.... Lunch....?.... LMAO great video and ideas ty.
Excelent
Maybe tell us where to get the union you referring to
Thank you. I saved $8 by repairing my mower throttle cable,, instead of buying a new one.
just use one of these (Rotary 14819 Z-Bend Wire Stop Cable)
.......This is brilliant....that ferrule cable splicer is only $1.47 at Home Depot for 2.....You can buy a 2 ft. length of stainless steel 3/32 cable for 0.50 cents......that's it....back in business.....
On the engine side what can you do if one side of that bracket is broke off so the wire doesnt stay in place?
are the cables such a problem? i might get another rover then 26 years and never broke a cable. i think id have a spare in stock with new blades. i wouldn't repair one
The plastic sheathing on my lawn mower throttle cable broke in the middle when I folded the handle for winter storage. The wire inside the cable is not broken; can you suggest how to splice the plastic sheathing back together so that the wire moves inside the sheathing. They want $50 plus shipping for a new replacement cable. Dave P.
Try this:
Pull the cable together at the break.
Put a hose clamp around the handle just above the break and a hose clamp just below the break.
Tighten the clamps just enough to hold them in place. If you tighten them too much you may squeeze the cable inside and restrict the movement.
Yes, it looks tacky, but it works.
Magnific
What size pipe?
What did you crimp the sleeve with? I could not see what the tool was.
his pliers have a crimp tool in the back,
Thanks from Bruce Pender
Genius
Cable stops work very well also
Nice little trick. I saw that pipe thing as well.
Cheers
Martin
+retrorestore Grass rats garage has some good videos. Got to get me a magnet for fishing.
+doublewide6 Look forward to your magnet fishing adventure, you gotta film it lol.
Cheers
Martin
Were did the clamp come from
The union alone works also
Becomes a kill switch mower... or one that you have to start and pull the spark plug boot off while running ahaha.
+Cody Jv Not sure what you mean?
+doublewide6 defeat the safety brake with a zip tie and rig up a switch to ground the spark. love it because you can move whatever is in the yard and come back to a running mower. Or skip the wiring of ground and install some rope to pull the spark plug boot off the plug to kill er.
One could of course snip off the z ends of old cables and utilise. The acquisition of cable joiners is the main problem
my cable ends are ok, but the cable is rusted in the housing, and won't move.
hello,we are a amazon seller,we are selling a new product about Control Cable, but now we need a video link about it,can you provide it?Thanks
Why aluminum wire? why not steel?
Dude thanks it take forever to order these parts from amazon weeks ,i will do this.
That 'union thing', is called a ferrule loop.
WOW, another 1986 Goatee, love it. LOL LOL Shave that mess off Charlie Manson.
r u showing how to do or trying to sell ur tolls
