    Unintentionally a masterclass tutorial vid. Verbally clear without unnecessary comment. Cable renovation utilising universally obtainable components. Concise unencumbered camera shots demonstrating real money saving procedures. Bonus was, again unintentional, the little Tommy Cooper accidents that occur of course in a cluttered workshop of a creative guy. Thanks Mick, thumb up and subscription

    Thank you! The materials and techniques you suggested (especially the vice-crimping) worked *perfectly* for me, and only cost $3.45 US (~2.65 GBP) at the local big box hardware store...$0.35 per foot for 1/16" stainless steel uncoated wire rope, plus $1.70 for a package of 2 aluminum "ferrule and stop" sets.

    My self propelled cable shredded just short of the dogleg at the handle. I cut cable just below the shredded part and got some replacement cable. I added the cable by means of an electrical butt splice. I then replaced the dogleg with the same guage electrical eyelet which I also crimped on the end. In the hole where the dogleg went I installed a machine screw stationary and loosely attached the eyelet so it would rotate when squeezing the self propelled bar. Worked perfect.

    I found some Z clips on this side of the pond that should make this repair even easier. The hole that you feed the cable into is open on both ends. No guessing on where to cut the cable, just feed it through, pull out the slack, and tighten the holding screw. Then snip the loose end to suit. There will be a few samples headed your way in about 10 days....

    Heya Brother. WD40 is a Water Displacement product and evaporates over time. For a more effective lube of the cable, invest in Chain and Cable lube from one of the Motorcycle brands. They are designed and formulated to last a long time and help prevent binding. I always tell people who use WD40 as a lubricant, that unless it's one of the specialty WD40 formulas, all it is is a Water Displacement (hence the WD in WD40) chemical. Clean that Tool Box! Cheers Mate! Zip~

    Why not use old fashioned solid wire as was used for many years. Bend Z ends into the wire. No extra bits needed. A little more resistance pushing and pulling but with proper lubrication it lasts the life of the unit and some outlast the unit.

    I can't see your cable oiler very well, But i have one almost identical to yours, And the lube input is actually on the front of the device, And snoots straight thru the rubber inner seal and onto the cable. And the hole that your using is actually the holder for the inner rubber piece. I'm not saying your doing it wrong. I just can't see it very well.

    Thanks for the video. However, links to the wire and the z bends you used would have been nice. You didn't say what style of z bend you had, all the ones I have seen require you to screw them on to the wire, but the crimp style you used look like there would be less chance of interference with surrounding parts. You also didn't say what gauge wire you used.
    It was a great tutorial, but without more information about the parts you used, it unfortunately ruined it.

    When I was pulling the old cable out of the housing it the cable broke broke off and part of it is stuck in the housing rusted. No way to get it out to reuse the cable housing. Any ideas for what I can do now?

      Do you have a bit hanging out to put in a vise and pull it out ?

      No nothing. It’s about a foot in and about a 4 inch section.

    • @heatherrubel6388
      @heatherrubel6388 3 роки тому +1

      I had put it in the vice to give a good yank. It took me several yanks to get it to break loose. And it left some inside. Now I’m stuck. No housing. No mower and mounds of leaves to get mulched.

      I got wd40 in it overnight, then put wire in to try to loosen up and push out the remaining section but no go.

    • @themowerman
      @themowerman  3 роки тому

      @@heatherrubel6388 ok so all you can do is where the section is stuck is bend the cable backwards and forwards to try and loosen it up.. just enough to break up the rust.. them poke some cable in to remove it.. if that doesn't work then I would say a replacement is needed
