If I may offer a simple trick for lining up the rope..Use a Bread tie wrap to feed thru the hole, then twisted around the rope end nice and tight, then simply pull the wire bread tie and the rope will get pulled the opening...simple electrical trick we used to pull wire trhough tight areas.

Like the guy before me, I am amazed at how you diagnose and repair small engines. I am also impressed with your little red corvette.
Once upon a time, I was smitten with them. My wife was kind enough to let me experience 2, ‘69 silver convertible, black vinyl hard top, and side pipes, 427-390 4 spd and ‘73 silver coupe L48, 327-300, 4 spd. Now what I am asking about. I have a StihlBG55 blower, . Slot 9 or 10 yrs old. Myself and 3 neighbors have rode it hard primarily during leaf season. This past fall, ignition module failed. When I went to replace it, wouldn’t line up with flywheel. Slot for mounting screw, part of the head had a crack which broke off. Dealer said it would cost more than it was worth to repair. I found a head unit on EBay, took 4 bolts from bottom off and replaced broken part of the head. Have I wasted my time or will this work? Maybe I’m hard headed, I just hate to throw stuff away. Your videos
Inspire me to try to repair rather than replace. I apologize for the length

I know this is 2 years old... however, I wanted to say thanks. I did this once... incorrectly. I never did figure out why my rope was always hanging down after I let it back in until I found this video. I've never been a small engine guy until I purchased my house and didn't want to pay someone else when that money could go toward other projects.
Now I have a longer, properly installed pull rope.

Thank you for explaining things easy. I had a stroke 40 years ago. My right arm is almost non-existent. I've has this mower for 20 years and it's been a good reliable mower so easy to do. Again, thank you.

I love it when a mower at auction has a broken pull rope. Usually that was the camel that broke their straw back. Frequent that is the only thing majorly wrong with that mower. Same thing with a trash picked mower. Oil will be tar; air filter will be full of dandelion fur, blade will be dull, but the broken pull rope will be the final factor that caused it to be discarded. Easy fix, easy flip.

That happened to me…lol. The blade got bent when it hit a tree root so after purchasing a new blade (online because nobody around here had that blade) I had a really hard time getting the old one off. Then I finally found someone strong enough to help with that issue but when I went to start my mower the rope broke.
I said, “oh just forget it” 😩 , put the mower out by the road, came into the house and ordered a new mower from Amazon.
I still laugh when I think about whoever picked up that “free” mower looking underneath and finding a new blade on it!
Last week my brother put a new carburetor on my mower but when I went to start it it seems the engine zone control cable was no good but instead of saying “oh just forget it” I hopped on UA-cam, found Chickanic’s video on replacing the cable and violà…I’m now a subscriber!!

So I have old (1982) work horse tractor got it for helping a neighbor in Fl. it had set for years, had a Briggs 10.5 had very little compression, id put some mineral oil in and it would run for a bit, the clutch was super expensive. Swapped out the BnS10 with a Honda 13hp I had sittin around. Put a double sheave pulley on it and damn that tractor came alive, I sold the deck for 350 bucks! I have it up here in Arkansas now its definitely a work horse use it everyday. Bought a cheap pull start assy on amazon lasted 5 starts. I just use a rope on it starts every time but I think I saw a pull starter somewhere. good video.
