@ThrillSeeker...Any idea what the point of having two lenses for each eye is? I have yet to see any review that answers that question.
One question on the clicking issue, it's comfortable to use the thumbstick without holding the controller in the first place?
Because this is not designed to be held all the time and to click at an angle you need quite an amount of force on every controller.
@@dtz1000 they put 2 lenses and make ur eye a bit closer to them because it increases the FOV
What equalizer do you use?
After 4 months, only one person tried to answer my question seriously. It gives me the impression the two lenses per eye thing from Valve was just marketing BS that doesn't do much other than increasing the God rays.
Are you seriously telling me the tightening nut at the back isn't a red valve?? What the actual?
There is a mod for that haha
Link?
Probably waiting for the special edition for when their new game comes out. XD

I feel like VR tech has gone a long way since the oculus dk1 in 2013. I bought a rift S the other day, and I can only imagine what the tech will be like in another 6 years.
Well god damn it’s really been 6 years it feels like it was just yesterday
most likely mind transfer like tron or SAO, becuase everyone like valve and Elon musk are working towards that. Plus fingers crossed for flying cars
I was so young when the dk1 was made

we're not that far from those 6 years you couldn't wait for. It is pretty crazy to think the Index used to be so insanely good

I just want to pair them to my wireless quest 2 bruh
@@mrfoxfam_doesstuff6252 I don’t think you can, the quest 2 only can be connected to the quest 2 controllers.
@@KingHeadass44 yeah and even if you could pair them with it you would still have to buy base stations anyways
I've got the index, everything is great. I've noticed that the speakers are not easily heard by anyone around you even when the volume is loud to you, I think that's cool as hell.
but.. you hear everything in the round around you, right? i mean, theyre floating above you ears, so even the faintest sound will com throught to you

I really like what’s going on in the VR industry right now. Oculus is trying to appeal for newcomers with lower prices, and Vive is producing quality headsets to push its limits. Despite which VR headset you have, each has its pros and cons, and we shouldn’t argue over which one is better because it depends per person. Let’s not make Oculus v Vive a thing, like heated controversies, such as iOS v Android. Have a great day!
It would be oculus v valve since the vive is actually a headset by valve and htc together :P eitherway, i completely agree here. I absolutely hate these silly wars about whats better haha!
That was a really profound and optimistic statement; I like it
WyldeGi Nah versus are always fun. One should be superior over the other. Don’t be so optimistic that you take the fun out of everything now.
wtf has vive got to do with anything right now, they only have cosmos and that's it?
right now it would actually be Oculus vs Valve. HTC is not doing much
Your growth is insane, man!
Great review :)
Can’t wait for mine to come in! Thanks for the review!
Really really great review, honestly made me feel a lot more comfortable because my index is arriving tomorrow and I wanted some quality re-assurance
You mean you needed some fanatical assurance?
Mann rookie mistake! It worked out for you now, but NEVER watch reviews after you already bought the product, you wanna die? You know the bad reviews hide from you until you bought it right??
After 8 months how does it feels?
Nothuman134 my index feels good, ive had some issues with controllers and the tether wearing but thats about it
Nothuman134 the controllers have a problem with thumbstick drift, where with more stress on the stick, eventually they wear and cause inputs to stick
4k subs in 2 month's great job! Keep up with the good VR content.

Guess I should have just waited a day on my rift S question you answered yesterday haha! Great review! But you got me down the rabbit hole with the Overwatch VR. Next thing i knew I watched like 5 of your videos in a row. Huge OW player here too! Have like 600 hours into and I still love it (especially when 2/2/2) comp comes out!
Dude for real! Big OWL fan as well. Glad to have you here 😊
ThrillSeeker Fuuuuuueeeeellllll!
What's your main on OW?
xtremespecs personally, I Flex a lot. My “main” is Pharah with about 200 hours on her. However, with all the head clickers right now, I tend to play a lot of D.Va/Zarya, Mei and Zyn to fill in on team needs.

Thanks for this video!! Gonna be upgrading to an rtx 2080 super and i7 10th gen and wanted a new VR upgrade from the Rift CV1, the headset looks way better and controllers seem super cool!!
I heard that Valve was not intending on putting the thumbstick onto controllers, it was basically an afterthought, and Valve still seems to truly believe that teleportation is the only way to go.
Still, a great review, and all about full Index package seems really cool!
I bought this after wanting to upgrade my quest 2. Thank God I had that stimulus check, can't wait to get it!
The eye relief thing is also built into the Vive. It's kind of hidden away, but it's there
Really great review, thanks!
i made a mistake of watching reviews before my headset came, got absolutely terrifed after watching gethip videos, but seeing this made me feel very reassured so thanks lol
When he said the Index is not for you if you have low-end or mid-range PC my heart sunk so hard. I have ordered my headset and I'm getting it 12. December. I was worried and bummed out. But then the GTX 1080TI was mentioned as good enough and it just made my day!!!!

Quality review. Made me think you had a bigger channel. Also I find it interesting that the Valve Index Controllers also work with the Vive. Do you think there's some partnership with them?
Yeah, HTC and Valve worked together befor for the HTC Vive :)
they worked together for the vive so they both use the lighthouse tracking system making them interchangeable.
I found the g spot on the valve index and honestly loving it more and more

Also tip for you, looking on how you hold the controllers in the video, it seems like you have a similar issue as me with big hands, your thumb sits quite high on the controller. If you have access to a 3D printer try out the boosters provided by valve as it improved comfort of the controllers for me a lot!

@@ismarayfuentes6266 nah valve index is way better
@@Spoonzey valve index is incredibly undurable and has a lower screen resolution than the quest, sometimes the index basically self destructs. I chose to stay with vive headsets so I won’t have issues with durability or battery.
The thumsticks not clicking properly on the conrtollers are an "added feature" according to valve, but nobody really likes them and idk whether they're going to fix it. (I do not own index controllers, but i've heard that it's really annoying)
Sweet! Good review. I am pretty sure I can't run the index on 120hz with my current pc, so I have to upgrade it afterwards, but I should be fine for 90hz.
I think you can run it at 144
Wolfskid what are your specs?
Half-Life-Lore If he cant run it at 120hz he definitely can’t at 144hz
I have a GTX 980ti and thinking about this headset. I don’t mind running at 80-90 hz for some of the more demanding games. I7 6700k. I think I’ll be okay and if worse case, I’ll upgrade my GPU. Thank you for the review.
Gotta love that one dog hair hanging out the bottom of the headset while hes doing all the cinematic shots of it
Yeah....
Still love your videos man! So keen for the Cosmos can't wait to watch your review :)
I found that calibrating the joysticks so Up is angled more properly aligns it with your thumbs (cuz so are they) ended up fixing some problems I had in games.
Great review and view points! Lucky bugger!
I just want to say. Your video was extremely informative and well put together and after watching it I insta subscribed. Keep up the great vids man.
Thanks boss 😊
I am new to VR and cant wait to get my Valve Index.
good review btw keep up the good work
Best Valve Index review so far. . .
IPD adjustment is a pretty key reason to choose it over the rift s for me. The quest might be an option but from what i hear the link to pc uses a more compressed signal with thus likely lower fidelity and potentially a little lag....
great video man!
I have a 1060 6gb which i guess is the middle ground for index, and i've heard from some people in the same situation. that it runs well and smooth for non graphic intensive games like beatsaber, gorn, etc, it struggles at like no man's sky, without dropping the quality of course.I'm not planning to upgrade really soon, but i would prefer getting the absolute best vr headset, get it to run decent, rather than getting a cheaper vr,upgrading at a later time, then getting the index, just doesn't seem as efficient.Any other opinions?
Cheers nice straight forward review, without the BS :)
8:48 Using the xbox controller, I often press the thumbstick accidentally when I'm moving backwards in tense situations, so indeed this sound good to me. But 1000 is too much. So far I have found no reasons in any headset to upgrade my Odyssey, as they improve something, but make others worse, as the black levels, wich are top-nocht in the samgung. Thanks for the video! Very good unbiased review.
Also every button for your thumb has touch sensing, just like the grip and trigger.
I bought a rtx 2080 super for just this thing
Totally hyped for when I get it
Did you get it yet?
I got a 2070 super. I love it for playing VR. VERY rarely went under the refresh rate!
VoidHxnter this is reassuring, I’m thinking of getting an index and I was concerned about my 2070s
@@bayybars here i am confident about my super clocked 8gb 1070 😎
You could also use a 1080 and it would be fine
Mine is on the way, hoping this week. I tested one at a friends at 120hz, but he only has a GTX1070, so not the best card for testing, lol.
I am planning to test 144hz, and see how my GTX2080ti holds up. I will be happy with 120, but would be awesome if the 2080ti can push 144.
The black levels were the only bad part I saw of the headset, in a room that is pure black, on my vive Pro, it looks very dark (but the stupid lenses ruin that anyway, due to being fresnel), while in the Index, the room looked more like dark grey fog. However, it still overall looked great. I also LOVE the knuckles/index controllers, and those are my main reason for jumping to the Index, along with the better FoV.
Gently lift your control stick upwards by pinching it and then pulling - gently. Then, depending on whether it's the right or left controller, rotate the stick left on the left controller and right on the right controller until it starts getting hard to rotate, at that point stop rotating. Push the stick back down and try using it. Does it work better now? Great! Now rotate it back by as much as you rotated it the first time around, to bring it back into the original position, this time you don't life the stick upwards.
ROFL and plase do so with some but not excessive force !
Great content 👍👏

Im really glad i spend a way more money on Ebay for it. I love it so mutch. Its a really great Headset, and 144hz just feels so smooth. For me it was worth every cent.
I'm still getting the valve index no matter what!
I think there's a lot of people in my shoes, i have the Cv1 and the Quest but i also did have the Rift S which i had to take back the next day because of the IPD. It always felt like my eyes were crossed over and gave me headaches within minutes of using it but i was gutted because when i first put it on i was like WOW this looks so much better than my Cv1 but like i said within say 5 minutes i had eye strain. No matter how many times i tried it i stoll got headaches and eye strain. Also because my IPD is 71 the Rift S also had a really bad FOV for me and i can only think that's because the space between the lenses was not far enough apart so it caused me to see a very small FOV. I'm waiting for my Index but I'm still waiting for a delivery date as i only reserved today and they say out of stock on the other package so i have a little wait i think.
I believe there are a lot of other people out there who are also buying the Index not because it's what they wanted but because Oculus disided to use software IPD adjustment. they thought it was a good idea to limit the amount of people that the Rift s would be suitable for and to say I was pissed off is an understatement. I spent 100s of pounds if not over a thousand on the Oculus store and now i can't play any of my games on there new headset and all i can do is use my Cv1.
Now i have the Oculus Quest it's kinda hard to put up with the Cv1's resolution once you have experienced the Quest and the Rift S. 😥
Nice review bud
I will be getting valve index bcs of the high refresh rate. I tested other headsets and few times I felt dizzy. Maybe it was the game, idk. I already own Steam Controller so I'm used to the button mapping and I dont mind it as much. I also dont mind the joystick. Thank you for the info.
WOW! Very objective. Thumbs up from me.

Finally a very good review. I'd like to know if on visuals (only interested in visuals) you would consider this an upgrade from the 1st Samsung Odyssey - I'm undecided
The index is a huge upgrade for sure!
Well if you say only visuals, then its an upgrade, but perhaps not that big. Ive seen users with the Vive Pro not being satisfied with the Index due to the fact that they had done lens mod + were wireless + losing OLED, which of course gives proper blacks, contrast, and colour. But strictly talking about the visuals and it was at least a bit of an upgrade. (I know you didnt ask, but if you take into account the rest of the package - the top notch tracking and great sound, the Index is a great headset)
Great video!
I'm sitting here enjoying PSVR and it's been making me want to step up to a nicer unit. PC has a GTX 1070 and i7-4770k. Should I look into going in on this or will my PC still limit me? Steams website states that I meet the recommended requirements but I always wonder... y'know? Thanks for the review.
Has there been a revision (or two) for the controllers since this was reviewed? 'cause the ones I just received from Valve (Oct 21) do not have the issue described at 8:21. The thumbsticks on my knuckles _do_ have a tactile, and audible click when pushed down at any angle.
Took a year to get the headset and took less then a week for the trigger on the left controller to give out side of that it is a great headset it fits me better than my quest 2 did and because of that it more clear. Just wish they would completely refresh the controllers because like I said it took less than a week or more accurately 3 day for the left controller to fail.
The short awnser is yes and the longer awnser is hell yeah
good video! i didn't even know the index has a mic cause i wanted to get one next month, too. my assumption why you can't press the stick at a different angle than upright is though that the hardware life should be more consistent cause we all know little things like this can easily break, bend or whatever else. from my perspective being able to "click" the stick at a not upright angle would probably break it sooner if you overdo it and maybe the developers didn't want you having to buy new controllers just cause the joystick broke too fast. dunno if that's true, just my consumption. :)
well i'm a computer user and just got a ps4 controller for a certain game, but that was just a logical technical assumption i could come up with.
this is right now by far the best headset, to make it short.
rift s is a really good alternative, end of discussion :)
I can't decide between this or the Vive pro 2 I already have the Knuckles and the Vive base mounts 1.0 so I only really wanna upgrade my base Vive headset. So would you say this or the Vive pro 2 if you have also tested it?
seems like the best feature on the index is also the biggest complaint the controllers.... I am thinking about getting either rift s/quest or index leaning towards the index just for the headset quality but I feel that the controllers will frustrate me and the Oculus controllers are Apparently amazing but does not have full tracking VIA base stations.... I guess I will wait to see what CES shows off.... if the rift S/quest had some sort of lighthouse support I think it would be a better buy ATM you have to choose what trade off you want... I am thinking of buying the index now and hopefully a new version the controller will come out that addresses the flaws
this is gonna be random but there needs to be a steam vr home that spawns in empty space with a console. on the console, you can pull out a big tablet screen that shows all your games, once you select a game, you have to throw the tablet to launch it. i dunno seems cool
I got a Rift S a few months ago, but had to return it because of a defect. That defect almost caused me to hit my head falling backwards. I want to get the Index because the Index Knuckles just on there own. They would be super comfy for my wrists with my joint issue because of how they stay on the hand(the normal strap on the wrist causes discomfort because of it: yes I know that sounds weird).
As much as I love the Index I doubt I will be able to get it. Living on a limited incomes is rather annoying, and a finance plan was the only way I got the Rift S honestly. I got to say I miss the low impact work out I got playing Beat Saber, and or Synth Rider the most.
May this VR gen or next gen, the last to have loop for lens.
LentinAR and other begins to show novel ways for near eye display with wide field of view
Thank you for doing this, there was a huge hole in the market for this video.
HP Reverb seems to have stolen the crown. Resolution is just so amazing.
Steven Day really? I’ve heard not the best things about it... do you have one? Sure is a whole lot cheaper then an index... I’ve only got psvr currently... can’t decide if I should wait for next gen or get a higher end one now like an index or a reverb...
