@@hayden4279 So my playspace is a 4.4mx4.4m area so the main issue I really had was being able to get the cable to the center without slack that I hit with my hands up and the ability to stretch to use all of the cable length I have with the 3m extensions I got, hence needing more than one pack of pulleys. I also have a drop-down ceiling on the edge of the playspace my pc is on which impedes the cable run as well, I ended up using 8 pulleys to get to the center which uses the 4 for the triangle(obviously). I can reach 3 of the four corners of my setup with barely any noticeable tug from the cable with the 4th being pretty extreme tug but thats only really when hitting the extreme edge which I won't really do since I set the guardian to come up before that.

I was curious about this, thanks for clarifying. I've seen many reviews saying it adjusts tension and others saying it adjusts length. Is the unit in a position of minimum resting length when you receive it? If you increase the resting length and pull does it feel like the tension has changed in any way?

    • @BrianPletcher1
      @BrianPletcher1 4 роки тому +3

I thought the same thing, but it turns out it does both. I got a set of the cheaper ones and noticed that the tension is a bit higher if the resting length is longer. That's because the retracting spring pulls more as it winds up.

Edit: okay, your superior setup is better than dog leashes. The shared tension of the 4 lanyards for the headset feels way smoother...almost wireless feeling.
2 retractable dog leashes and 2 metal hooks. The leashes are long enough to reach the ground and (because of their size) more consistent force so you don't feel it pulling on your head. Works for me over the past few years.

I personally use a system that is a free rotating folding crane mounted on a pole. Pulleys are mounted on the crane. This setup works better than just pulleys because it's okay to set the pulleys relatively tight and let the crane do most of the works. Also the pole is spring-mounted so no wall or ceiling mount required, and it can be taken apart without leaving any mark. The pole is also a perfect way to mount base stations IMO.

I had such a system, but it wasn't good - cable got in way of my hands - but it was mostly because of very low ceiling. Now I have high ceiling and 4 dog leashes instead of pulleys and it works great. The problem I had with pulleys is short reach - I bet you can't go prone or use 3x3m area with it. Dog leashes are so great I wouldn't use wireless adapter even if I got one for free. :)

for anyone who wants to do with with their oculus quest w/ link, make sure you attach the wire to the headstrap with something like tape or velcro so the port isnt stressed

I had a pulley system initially but it sucked. I could easily feel the pull of it and taking off the headset and putting it away or on the ground also were not longer as easy as before. Moreover playing tennis or fighting with swords can still get you tangled up. The holders for hooks of it are still glued to my ceiling and I can't remove them unless I also renovate the entire room. I instantly got the TPCAST when it got out and beside days of horror and pain setting it up and waiting like 10 minutes for it to connect to everything whenever I wanted to start a VR session, it still was totally worth it. Also you didn't need a super computer like for the current wireless kit from HTC because it more or less streamed uncompressed with an insane bandwidth.

Problem with cheap pulleys is the spring is too loose and it pulls out and bottoms. (Plus it stretches over time.) LOVE the tension adjustment on these.
Get a decent under table headphone holder to store your headset and controllers...

Though my room's quite small so I can't really move enough to get tangled...

I bought this and they were well worth it. My problem was that I put three of them together for the ring accessory, realised I didn’t need it, took the sticker thing off the ceiling and tore out some plaster with it

lmao I used sticky hooks on my popcorn ceiling for my V1 kiwi.
It's perfectly fine so long as the only load the bear is the cable weight; I screwed in the last hook in order to bear the headset weight.
    I want the V2 reeee

I ordered my first pulley system, I'm waiting for it (it's been 13 months since I bought my headset). The first time I started playing (started playing with HLA), when I saw poisonous headcrabs I was really scared that I tripped over my cables and the cable came off of rift s, then everything was dark...) xD

Simple solution...Oculus Quest ( No cords ) I used 2 Velcro 8” straps to strap a 20mah battery and I get 10hrs of game time. The weight of the external battery helps with the weight in front. And no one has to drill holes in there apt or home.

triangle is my only option since i live in a german "Altbau" with castle like 3.7m (12.1 feet) hight walls. hanging my index up there is quite hard even with a ladder :P

To clarify: The allan key does NOT adjust tension. It adjusts a stopper on the cable, so by moving it around you can adjust the maximum length the cable retracts to. In my case for example my roof is rather high, so I can barely not reach the pulleys with my hands when no cable is in them. By adjusting the stopper a little I could make the cables retract 2 cm less, which is enough that I can reach the pulley by hand without needing a ladder. This way pulling them from the ceiling when setting everything up is much easier and faster.

So recently set up my own 3 point pulley system like mentioned here, just wanted to say, I have a popcorn ceiling, and quite frankly I hate it, artex was a terrible idea and whoever invented it needs to never touch a ceiling again. Anyway the point I wanted to make is the rubber adhesive hooks the pulleys come with are both very strong but also squishy, they adhered to my ceiling no problem regardless of all the popcorn. This might now work as well depending on the severity of the artex, but if you don't want to drill holes the adhesives may still be an option for my fellow popcorners out there.

I prefer to use retractable dog leashes..for small dogs. I pull out about 5ft and cut the rope, then loop my cable through it and cinch it up. It gets rid of first few feet that don't really pull back much. It keeps my wire taught without pulling my head and extends to reach bottom corner , 13ft by 9ft play area.
