Thank you for a very informative video. As a long-time Cubase user I do know the Drum Editor, but I managed to get a few great tips I did not know, like the fill-to-grid-by-dragging feature. Cubase is Great!
Great Video. just to add (you probably know) if using Groove Agent , in the inspector instead using the GM map, its possible to choose the option "create map from instrument" and it will show the name of each pad on groove agent on the drum editor
This was SUPER helpful! All of this time using the drum editor and I didn’t even know most of the things you showed us here. I will put this info to good use! Thanks very much for sharing!
I think the biggest plus for the drum editor is the ability to apply different quantise values to each piece of a kit or quantise only certain things like the kick but leave the feel in the others. There are free maps out there for many drum apps too.
Love it. I honestly don’t see myself using anything else other than CUBASE. To me it’s the best. I’ve tried ableton and it’s cool but not better in my opinion.
Thanks Jef - stuff I didnt know and I thought I had it down already! More content like this if you don't mind - your disarming sense of humour married with a great sense of musicality and love of the tech makes for the perfect cocktail ;)
Thanks Creative Dwill! I'll be sure to give your channel some more shoutouts... your vids are fantastic, they look incredible... and you inspire me to keep working on my pipes!!💪💪
Jef, Very helpful. I've saved this to my Cubase resource playlist as part of my reference library. When the dust settles on Kontakt 14, I'd like to see you do a video on when and why you use Kontakt to add and instrument, and when you start with Komplete Kontrol instead. I understand the basic differences, but I'd be interested in your take on how you make that choice and you feel it impacts both your workflow and your creative process. Thanks
Hi Jeff, How in the Cubase editor can you replicate the accent button that was on drum machines ? and are you going to do an advance tutorial on drum programming, great Videos
Always enjoy your videos Jef! Very nice! However, I do have a question. Being a drummer for over 30 years, reading drum parts will have the kick ALWAYS on the bottom. Programming drums in your illustrated order (as well as many others do I've noticed) seems very alien to me. Absolutely no sense. I wish more would follow the "standard" on bottom to top order...kick, snare, toms, and cymbals. :)
Thank for this video I still don't know where I can see the patterns that I create and then repeat them like the sequences in Ableton and fruity loop that you have recorded different patterns yourself, you choose them and everything is faster that way
Do you mean the colour of the different drum parts? There might be a little window in your drum editor that says Velocity (colour by velocity), change that to colour by note!
@@HenryMittnacht No problem! I always set my Key editor to that as well, I'd rather see velocity down below, easier to see when I make a mistake when the colour seems off!
can you please do a video on time stretching vocals in maschine to match the tempo better? if you already have one please send the link! Also I dont know the best way to contact you but if you would be interested in clinics in Canadian music stores contact me please
Ha! Thanks Steven ;) I do weights at home every other day and run every other day... doing something almost every day of the week. Running is probably the big one! Plus reduced food/sugar intake as I get older... but no fancy diets for me!
Dude, get hold of Algonaut Atlas v2, amazing drum plugin, built in step sequencer, ability to save kits/loops and it automatically sorts your one hit samples from your folders, it came out before XO. You can then easily generate new kits using the same sequenced loop etc. The built in Steinberg solution is rubbish overall, very happy with Atlas. Up to 64 pads, more than enough!

Thank you for this video and how you managed to present it with extreme simplicity and clarity.
Good job.
Really appreciate it! Thanks for the kind words!
There is SO much useful information in here. Thank you! 😊❤
the cubase metronome is life
As always, some tips for both beginners and some inspiration for ideas for advanced users. Great teaching!
Yes! A bit for everyone ;) thanks Edward!

Thanks Hugo, yeah, its feature set is so deep I'll never fully explore it!
Quality video production and immaculate presentation. Best I've seen on UA-cam. You should be an actor in Lifetime movies 🙂
What a great intro to Cubase drumming
Thanks Eric!

You bet, I mainly only use Komplete Kontrol when I want to use the features of my keyboard... otherwise I just go straight to Kontakt!
Very Informative Sir 🙏🙏
Invaluable
~Thanks!
Great video, thanks.

Hi Jeff, Random velocity doesn't appear to be included in the Project Logical Editor, its still available in the Midi Logical Editor, that in CB13
Great Video 👏🏽👏🏽
Thanks Tyrone!
Very cool!! 😎👍

I was wondering why the GM map wasnt working with kontakt .. found out randomly with this video.. thx 3:30
Is there midi patterns in Groove Agent 5?
So I could drop my loops, slice them and quickly use patterns inbuild in Groove Agent
Great as always! But how do you get the colour in?
Do you mean the colour of the different drum parts? There might be a little window in your drum editor that says Velocity (colour by velocity), change that to colour by note!
@@jefgibbons Yes, that’s what I meant. Thank you 🙏
@@HenryMittnacht No problem! I always set my Key editor to that as well, I'd rather see velocity down below, easier to see when I make a mistake when the colour seems off!
I have a quandary about humanizing velocity or quantizing in re to drum beats?
That pro tip was a killer because I’m been doing that wrong all this time lol
Seriously man, I just added that to my arsenal too... I'll use it all the time!!

Jef I have an important question as a long time viewer since the beginning days !!! how in the world do you stay so lean ?
Ha! Thanks Steven ;) I do weights at home every other day and run every other day... doing something almost every day of the week. Running is probably the big one! Plus reduced food/sugar intake as I get older... but no fancy diets for me!
@@jefgibbons awesome !!

I'll check it Benny!
In the first minute you use basics which i cant understand :(
Be specific and I can try to help you out! Which words exactly?
you all skip steps....how do you even get to where you are????? frustrating
