Your method of mixing kick is fun. I like that it feels like it’s in your chest lol. But obviously I don’t turn it up to that point at church because no one wants to feel like their chest is getting tight lol. But I love this eq live

Love the video. I just wanted to give a tip on the tom gating. If you find yourself putting gate thresholds extremely high, which is almost inevitable for toms, you've got 2 good courses of action to make it easier. The easiest way you can do it is by getting drum triggers and side-chaining the gate of the tom to that trigger. The triggers are a piezo design and while they will still pick up some cymbals and snare, the signal level when the tom gets hit is much higher so you can lower the threshold considerably. This does add cost of course and input channels on most consoles (put them in the aux channels on an M32, life saver) but the Pintech triggers are only about $20 each and then you just need a TRS to XLR adapter or cable and you're good to go. Don't waste money on a DI for the triggers. Option 2, which is free, is to key filter your gates. It will take some playing around to get it perfect but the key is to find a frequency or frequency range that the tom will open but the snare will not. I usually start at 120hz and move it around until I find a good balance. The key filtering method does get a bit tougher when the drummer has a drum shield.

The second option should be the first suggestion, because it’s free.. but I agree. The side chain filter will be your best friend when gating live drums… will not always make your life easier but, more times than not, it will.

wonderfull tutrorial but also try to give us some insight of using the waves console with some vst plugins from a standalone laptop , inserted into the soundgrid system...for instance triggers, guitar amp simulations or whatever else that is not WAVES.
    thanx

It's not a rule, but I'm surprised that, being reverbs in sends, there is dry signal in them. Anyway. The sound obtained in general also has a trace of quality and of an unquestionable "broadcast characteristic". I loved the proposal of the console, I celebrate the increase in buses. ✨✨

Wonderful tutorial but I have a simple question in mind and you should be able to answer… is it possible to record faders movements in ableton live or any daw with midi cc ? Thank you a lot

for a "smooth" sounding drums, all I need is only proper sounding drums, "industry's standard flagship" mics and the rest with my humble M32 digital mixer or stock DAW plugins, get it dialed in within 5 mins. for sure. 😂😂.
but its a lil hard to get a natural organic timbre sounding drums.

The snare top mic here costs $99.

Are you doing throw and go, or are you doing virtual soundcheck at home to prep for shows? I can get good results in a 5 minute soundcheck, but I do my best work when I have a multitrack of the band and can spend more time on things. If you tune the PA using the scene for the band playing there multitracks through the desk into the PA and use that to tune, I find I get better results that way too. I get better results doing that, than I do by playing a tuning song. Just do the best you can and keep at it.

What kind of processor has been used? Or what is the maximum ammount of plugins you can use in the LV1? If every channel is using 5-6 Plugins the processing power will be limited I guess. Any experiences please?

When listening to the gate on the snare, I noticed you left the snare verb ON. Was this intentional? I actually kinda liked it, and thought it was a good way to find a good gate setting that also allowed for the verb to activate.

Please dont tell me that in order to maintain this desk via licensing you have to pay an ongoing subscription otherwise it shuts down functionality?

    • @arguy2021
      @arguy2021 3 місяці тому +3

@wilcandou I've spoken directly to a Waves employee about this issue. Their answer is as follows:
"The lv1 license is a permanent license embedded on the console. Also includes 17 subscription free plugins embedded on the console. Those never expire!
Updates are still handled via an update plan, so if there is a big sw version update for the console, that is handled through the update plan - but it’s not required. You can choose to only renew the update plan when there’s an update you want, otherwise you keep the version you have. Comes with 1yr update plan from purchase."

This is just the default EQ. You can use any of the 100s of other plugins from Waves as your Eq as you like! Like F6 for example.

You should mix a vocal reverb into the drum reverb to literally put them in the same “room”
