Wearing a Rolex while traveling is also a neat way to get mugged.
FutureNow he saying carry a Rolex on you in case you need it as some kind of valuable means to get out of a jam. For instance if you were in Mexico on a cruise and you got off at one of the little stops and you're trying to find your way back to the cruise ship but the guides won't take you unless you give them something of value you can pull out the fake Rolex
That's why you have insurance, or dont wear that watch outside in an area like that.
What it means that you can get stranded etc anywhere in the world and people know the value and you can switch it for a flight ticket etc. Maybe not with a guy in the street but...
I understood what he said in the video. This comment is what one might call a joke.
Noah Lehman they don't carry gold bars because they can't afford it
"A genie whispered it into my ear" I would like to take the time and remind everybody that, during that man's life time, and in many other places, cocaine was still legal.
Also as a diver this watch would probably suit my needs so some people would find a Rolex useful and would pay a pretty penny for one as long as it last. Have you seen the prices for a good regulator or BCD? Some of this stuff is meant to last at least ten or more years..... Hum.....Oh, oh, oh do something on dive manufactures or organizations like SSI or PADI please! It could be another decline of video....well....not SSI or PADI but a lot of divers I talk to are curious as to why many of the organizations or manufactures that were around ten or fifteen years ago are drying up or already dead.
My Rolex was given to me Christmas Eve over 40 years ago by my parents. My First watch was a Timex. I did not have a clue the value of my Rolex. I remember that I never took it off and I still don’t. I just had it serviced by Rolex and it’s just like new.

Rolex got so big in these past few decades because they realized that mechanical watches have become objects of desire rather than objects of utility.
Well that was the only way mechanical watches could stay relevant after the quartz craze. Out of nowhere swiss watchmakers were at risk of going out of business when Japan started producing quartz watches that were inherently more accurate and cost less to make. So the swisshad no choice but to change their marketing and sell watches based on their heritage, boutique status, and the nature of being hand made and therefore more exclusive.
Mechanical watches also appeal to people like myself who just really love the view of actual clockwork. The main reason I don't want a rolex is because they don't build any of their watches with presentation case backs so I can oogle and admire the moving parts.
I have a Rolex. I inherited it from my father after he passed away. He loved it and it took a while to get it. To him, it was a taste of "the good life" and he really put emphasis on it as being a status symbol. I do not see any of that. I only wear it on special occasions, as it reminds me of him and that is why it is special to me.
Yeah Rolex are meant to be worn and to take a reasonable amount of wear. That's what makes them so popular, they are luxury (nowhere near brands like Lange and Sohne, Jaeger Lecoultre, Cartier, AP, etc), but they are luxury that the average person can wear for any occasion in any walk of life. They can take a beating.
My dad had a Rolex, and I remember handling it as a kid. I didn't realize until a few months ago how expensive they are!!
To me u seems to be a good son.
HE LOVED IT CAUSE IT HAS A LOGO, OTHERWISE HE WOULD HATE IT.
HE JUST LOVED TO SHOW A STATUS THAT HE DONT HAVE, LIKE YOU, BUT NOW YOU AHVE A REASON TO WEAR IT, ITS SOEMTHING FROM YOR FATHER...

Abbie Danger nah if you're a watch guy most of the time the watches you wear only other watch guys would notice and those are very few, you tend to wear it for yourself
Hi, I am a watch dude and I agree with you, but I think alot of people owns a Rolex because they want to show off. Every other brand like alange, cartier, patek and many more is about loving the automatic or mechanicel movement.
Johan good point Rolex is sort of in a different class because it is a household name rappers and the likes use it to flex.
They’re also good investments. Bought a second hand Patek Nautilus 5711 for $23,000 like 3 years ago and recently sold it for $45,000. The Daytona I bought from a few years ago also rose in value around 30% on gray market. This is mostly for Patek and Rolex though, brands like Hublot drop in value a lot.

Please do a video on how Arizona keeps their drinks at $0.99 how do they make a profit?
Cesar Medina mass quantity sales, with low profit margins still adds up to a decent profit. I would guess. Aren't cans like 5 to 10 cents, and Arizona's are mainly water, which isn't too expensive, factor in the cost of logistics, and since they don't really advertise their products, but rely more on word or mouth or repeat customers who just happen to discover their drinks. The store's cut for selling it. Arizona must just have a very low profit margin. But sell lots of inventory.
Gilberto Flores plus there was a time where they like made/bought (forgot) a shit ton of bottles so now their packaging costs like nothing
In case u didn't already know there is an Arizona video.

Not an unusual occurrence; if you have a Rolex that keeps good time, it will usually do so forever. The rest seem to need constant adjustment.

1. Quality 2. Innovation 3. Celebrity
Kovacs Kovacs their average in quality, relative to other dedicated watch companies, and aren't that innovative, as their older watches still look like the ones they make today.
And the main reason why they're the biggest watch company or most known is because of celebrities and pop culture. Rolex and success are pretty much the same thing to most people. If you have a Rolex, you must be rich and successful. It's become a status symbol that anyone can recognize should you own one.
I'm referring to the technological innovations, if you know Rolex's history. The quality is actually very high relative to other brands. In terms of finish, it won't top ALS, Patek, Breguet, VC, AP, JLC, some others, and especially the AHCI brands. But that's not the point. The quality is in the build that supports its reliability. Try taking most of the aforementioned brands' flagship models and see how they hold up in rigorous activities. Some may survive such as the AP RO, but that's just not expected of those brands.
Kovacs Kovacs if you want to talk about innovation, then Sieko has them beat, as they invented quartz, and made cheaper automatic watches, while also increasing the durability by redesigning the parts of the automatic watch to keep functioning after impacts. Their spring drive is also amazing, as they've gotten quartz accuracy from an automatic movement set up. They're durability is also better and doesn't need to be served as often; probably never, or after a life time, should it be passed on. But Sieko is an amazing company that gets overlooked because it's not Swiss. All those other companies are good watches, like Rolex, but they're way overpriced, and status symbols with good branding. If you want similar quality for a 10th the price, get a grand sieko, they almost killed the Swiss watch industry in the past; forcing them to rely on company history and prestige to survive, because their quality could be matched for much Less than they were and are still charing.
You need all three at the top of its game. Seiko didn't market as well. Also, much of Rolex's innovation occurred pre-Quartz crisis. That's when their prestige took hold. Everything since then is legacy - hence why Rolex can command a premium. Grand Seiko's lower price point is a red herring argument, as Seiko wasn't absolutely known for the quality build and celebrity marketing to the extent as Rolex. And, Spring Drive is a 21st century innovation and wasn't competing with Rolex in terms of quality throughout most of the 20th century. Not to mention, many don't consider a SD a truly mechanical watch.
Kovacs Kovacs a Grand Sieko and it's SD is a mechanical watch, only difference is its as accurate as a quartz, it's still rolls the seconds hands, but doesn't lose any time at all. Grand Sieko also has full mechanical watches too. You can get a quartz style, mechanical or if you're on the fence, the SD, which combines the best of both. It's a beautiful watch, that won't brake the bank, but perform just as well as any swiss watch that is in its class, such as a Rolex. However, Rolex is the better investment, because of its name recognition and perceived value.
However, Sieko's thing has always been affordability, they mass made watches to sell to consumers who never owned a watch, because watches had always been too expensive to own. This made people feel the brand like it was cheap, because the watch was affordable. However, Sieko has only ever made quality from the beginning. If you know the working of a watch, you'd know you get only the best craftsmanship and engineering from Japanese goods; especially when it comes to their steel. You'd know Sieko is the best value you can get if you're not a watch brand snob.

Evan G the company is over 100 years old
I think he's saying that's the reason they're still big today. Normal watches are pretty obselete since smartphones and smart watches came around. But with every rapper talking about their bezel on their rolly, that's kept their name pretty relevant to young people.

Why do you think rappers talk about it? It's already established name and influence keeps it relevant; but I do understand his point.
El J man if you mean African Americans without the negative connotation, then the answer is in the comments above: the music industry.
Jimmy Hank yes, the first reason- all the current stars and celebrities talk about wanting/having a rolex, which further instills the desire in young kids which continues the strength of the brand. For example, all the young kids who watch jake paul will grow up wanting a rolex because he talks about them so much

Rolex was initially marketed as a "tool" watch that professionals could use for their work. Rolex back then was relatively affordable and hence every professional had one as they were proved to be very durable time and again. A company called "Aegler" made a business deal with Hans Wilsdorf to provide movements only under the Rolex name. During the 1970s quartz crisis led by Seiko, the company moved forward by then branding their company to be under a luxury category. This saved them from being sold to the other giants like Swatch, Richemont or LVMH. Hans Wilsdorf also developed a company named "Tudor" which would be priced at a fraction of what a Rolex would cost with mass-manufactured ETA movements given the watch had same build quality as a Rolex. Rolex designs are also well suited for all attires and do not frequently change their designs and stay classic all the time with minor changes done with every new model. They make sure a Rolex is identifiable even 10 ft away on a wrist. "Reliability" is the main reason Rolex still stands up to this day, their movement, case and bracelet construction is the best in any watch manufactured to this day.
10 feet away? I was wondering why people could spot my Rolex.
I‘m quite positive that Tudor watches have inhouse movements and no ETAs.
Okay, up to 2015 they used ETA movements, you were partially right 😃
@@klkl8525 Yes, Tudor's North Flag is the first model that showcased their own integrated bracelet design with their new in-house movement MT5621. Tudor also used this movement MT5612(without the power reserve indicator) into thier Pelagos which previously housed an ETA caliber. Tudor's chronograph caliber is the Breitling B01 with modified silicon components for the movement parts.
@@klkl8525 They still have some ETA models in their portfolio.
This is the first video from this channel which wasn't done very well. There was no mention of the rise of quartz watches and the decline of mechanicals like Rolex. It would have been nice to have mentioned how Rolex wasn't always top-dog, and how up until the 70's they were tool watches rather than luxury items. In fact, Rolex helped start the concept of luxury watches in response to the quartz revolution.
A little clarification: In 6:40, "perpetual" doesn't refer to the watch's ability to wind itself. That's called being "automatic": a function where a swinging pendulum creates the energy needed to power the watch, therefore eliminating the need to hand-wind the watch. Instead, "perpetual" refers to having a perpetual calendar, meaning that you never have to change the date of the watch. In standard mechanical watches, you have to adjust the date of the watch at the end of each month, since not all months have 31 days. In a watch with a perpetual calendar, the watch takes care of all of that. (magic?) Perpetual mechanical watches cost a lot more than regular mechanical watches, so if all mechanical watches had that function (as claimed in the video), that would be pretty awesome.
Actually everything you wrote in that paragraph is incorrect. Automatic watches do not incorporate pendulums and there is no "swing" to any motion inside a watch-- they use rotors that revolve around on a pivot as the watch is set in motion by the wrist. While the use of the word "perpetual" often refers to the perpetual calendar, in this case Rolex did use the word to market the automatic motion work because as long as the wearer had it on, the watch itself would go on and on. Lastly, anyone with a perpetual calendar watch had to change their date on January 1st 2000, and their grandchildren will do so again in the year 2100 because every century the calendar skips the leap year. It's not magic, it's really just that simple.
ToborAtonmi Actually 2000 WAS a leap year. Every 400 years the leap year does NOT get skipped.
This is incorrect like others pointed out, there is no swinging pendulum but a weighted rotor to generate energy, the calendar details are also wrong. The only rolex capable of doing what you describe is the sky dweller, all other models currently you need to change the date yourself

I bought my Daytona because I always wanted a nice watch, and when it came time to get one I was looking at an advert featuring Lewis Hamilton wearing a bi-metal Daytona. It looked fantastic, and I decided that I had to get one. One trip to Bond Street Arcade and £8,000 later I was the proud owner of Rolex. I love the way it looks, feels, and works. It's not big and flashy, but it reeks of quality and precision. The only watch that I would consider replacing it with is the Rolex GMT master.
I had a bi-metal Daytona as well and I can sincerely say that - having owned a range of watches from the humble G-Shock to the not so humble Royal Oak - that no watch I've ever owned felt better on my wrist than that Daytona. But at the time women had wrist watches then World war 1 came along and the rest is history!! Rolex gave soldiers in the trenches Rolex Watches so they can keep time! Etc..
My first thought when hearing "watches" was MVMT. I guess all of that sponsored youtube content paid off.

The absolute cheapest piece of shit watches you can own. They're incredibly inexpensive and they're still overpriced. Same with Michael Kors and all those fashion brands. If you want a respected watch at a good price, go with an automatic Seiko. Inexpensive and you still get all the well-crafted mechanics of an atomatic watch. (I'm a huge watch guy and I've been a salesman in the jewelry business for 2 years now)
Prefer Patek.
Jay G. Because you own both right?
@@gilbertoflores7397 NO BECAUSE THEY ARE BETTER, THEYN ARE NICER, THEY ARE ART...
YOU LOOK TO ROLEX YOU CANT FIND ONE THAT IS ART...I MEAN WITH AN AMAZING DESIGN, MAYBE ONE...
I cant even remember the last time i saw someone wearing a watch of any kind in real life lol
Because you're not looking for them. They're all around you, even luxury brands.
Hunter Thompson famously wore a watch on both hands nearly all the time.
SOME PEOPLE LIVE BLIND....
All mechanical watches have a gliding seconds hand, the smoothness of the glide depends on the beat rate of the movement, quartz clocks and watches tick due to vibrating the synthetic crystal.
I bought a Rolex watch in 1989. It cost $2750 which was (and still is) a chunk of cash. I still have it though, and if my maths is correct it has cost me about 27 cents a day to own. Who wouldn't have a Rolex if you could purchase one for 27 cents a day? When I die I'll leave it to a charity so the money will do some good in the world.
Which one did you buy?
@@rypaz87 I bought a two-tone Datejust with a silver dial. It's not what I would buy today, but it was my favourite at the time. These days I prefer the 1984 stainless Air-King-Date that I bought after the Datejust was temporarily out of commission due to a road accident.
Would it be okay if you do a video on LG?
Taco Irvin yes, they are very interesting. They have all kinds of electronic suppliants. And maybe it should be about LG and samsung and all these electronic companies and how they grew....
The "Little Girl" company of Korea right? My G6 is one of them
1:25 Polex 🤣🤣😆
Yeah, wtf was up with that?
OLEX
@@dittokiddo3340 OLEX MANNN YOU DONT OIL, IT DONT WORK,,,,,KEKEKEKE ITS A SHITTY THING.
My first thought was Casio... it's the first watch I remember getting as a kid.
Didn’t finish reading the comments so if this was stated I’m sorry but dominos does something awesome where if you are a general manager and you hit a specific sales goal for the store for a certain amount of time they will give you a Rolex. Pretty awesome gift
I asked my brother he said Apple Watch
Casio was actually the first thing I thought of.
I'm a nerd, okay?
stay with your casion man, get away...
Do Patek, Gucci, and Louis Vuitton
Michael Jordon yes.... Patek Phillipe is a company I want to know about.
wears a tag heuer, calls patek overpriced shit.... LOL
Bryan M wtf how do you know i wear a tag? plus patek really is overpriced
I Wear A Fez Now I saw you comment it after I scrolled past this and I had
To troll you a bit 😂 I wouldn’t say it’s overpriced it’s one of the best watches in the world and many models hold value quite well. Many models should be bought pre owned though as they don’t hold value. No watch is overpriced if you buy that particular one at the right market value.
I don't see many people wearing watches anymore. Most folks just look at their phone.
If I had a watch it would be a Seiko spring drive watch.....
I thought James Bond wore Omega not Rolex?
Lyndii Mey he's talking about the first James Bond. Rolex use to be an English company. It began in England and eventually moved to Switzerland.
Since the first bond films are from English novels, they probably dress bond in a Rolex. Omega recently took over sponsoring the bond films, I think it began with Daniel Craig, as he's the only one I recall wearing omega watches in casino royal.
@@gilbertoflores7397 Pierce Brosnan was the first to wear an Omega as James Bond-- it was the Seamaster 300M Quartz Professional. Omega was nearly bankrupt after the quartz crisis when Jean-Claude Biver convinced the producers of the movie to use Omega's quartz diver. It saved the brand completely and Bond has stuck with Omega in its many forms ever since then, in spite of the franchise's history of using half a dozen other watch brands beginning with the Rolex Submariner.
Do Seiko next!
seriously, does anyone younger than 30 here think wearing a Rolex is cool?
IDK, I know my parents don't even touch theirs, it's been in a safe since they married. I'd be afraid to wear because by wearing you it says you have money which makes you a prime target for a crime.
Haha nope not even a little.
22-year-old here. I think a Rolex or any similar pointless luxury product is a huge waste of money. Put that money into groceries or a house payment or something that will actually benefit you.
I'm 25 and think Rolex is the ultimate watch. I have a few fossils, a seiko, and some other junk watches but aim to own a Rolex when my salary can afford it
I don't think wearing it makes you cool, esp if you're trying hard to show it off and make it obvious that your watch is expensive. But I do think it looks elegant
Cheapest Rolex watch is over £1000. I’m done.
In the ridiculous world of high end swiss watches Rolex is the starting point. Most serious, high end watch enthusiasts look at a rolex like an exotic car enthusiast looks at a Honda
Tag Heuer
Tags are a rip off
They are very overpriced but good quality still. I love mine.
breitling>rolex
Chris Vigliotte what are you smoking? I'd like to try it sometime. Lol. Rolex is a good watch company, it's just that it's become too popular and well known by the casual consumer that it's being hated on by watch snobs who don't want their thing to be ruined by the casuals.
Quality and value
They're a good value because they depreciate heavily and immediately.
Yep-- "what are you smoking?" is exactly right. The Navitimer is a halfway decent piece but aside from that Breitling is pretty much dogshit. And I own one so I'm allowed to say it. It's the black sheep of my collection.
Got the brand new ROLEX
MRCFgaming 333 proff
MRCFgaming 333 Which one dawg?

I'd rather spend that money on college.
I’m a massive Omega guy, I’ve never been too crazy about Rolex
Hey company man you should start a podcast I think a lot people would listen to that
