If I were given a Daytona for free (I would never buy one) I'd sell it immediately to make some money. It's a lot of cluster in just 40mm. I think the Breguet Type XXI is a better alternative at 43mm also it being "Breguet" and way cheaper. Ironically, I like the Explorer, Air King and Sea Dweller. Any 40mm watch with a bezel gets to be too small of a dial, so the sub and GMT are out for me. I understand the point of this lame ranking is to stir up stuff, but this list is literally just based on John Mayer's watch collection and Nico's garbage ranting.

I would probably have done the same thing with the Yachtmaster if I hadn't come across model 126622 last December. I was really surprised by this design and put it in the same position as the Submariner for myself. It's just a matter of taste. Nobody should be upset about your tier list.

I had the same thoughts until it hit the wrist and now it’s my go to in the collection simply because it actually is so different and it looks fantastic too. You are right about the Sky Dweller, I was offered one at the AD and thought great but after putting it on I just couldn’t buy it and as I don’t flip watches I couldn’t just add it to the safe ☹️
I absolutely love my 124060 and forced myself but could not like the date version because I owned DJ41 and every time dirt builded around the cyclops it was driving me nuts. Also the hand was unproportionate when it passed the 3 hour mark. It triggered my OCD every time. I do miss the jubilee bracelet though. It was awesome. Can't agree on Daytona though. Overrated as f, saved by the fact that Paul Newman's wife happened to get him one for his birthday since they were cheap, easy to get and largely ignored back then. Now? He's just overrated and asking too much for what it is. I'd put him in the Air King tier.
Grail Rolex watches..Rolex GMT II, Submariner, Explorer, Datejust. Sky dweller and Yatch Master are definetly complicated movements but not something I would consider a classic. When I made my purchase, I looked at a few Rolex models and it came down to functionality, wearability, daily performance and how comfortable it wears. I knew I had to keep it under 40MM. So, long and behold I purchased a 2005 GMT II, coke dial-Series D. my watch was is going on 18 yrs and it was serviced after 12 yrs. Since service, the watch runs just as when it was new. The exception is no exposure to sea water or chlorine-pool water. my real diver is the Sinn U1-T-SDR. without dispute is a tool watch made to be a daily wearer for any environment. But i do love my Rolex.

I have a sub no date , a datejust ll fluted grey dial Roman numerals on oyster bracelet and a dated just 41 rhodium stick on jubilee bracelet. I’ve tried the explorer 1 39 mm and is too plain , I’ve tried the Milgass blue z and the air king and I’m sold on them , they look better in pictures and they catch the eye and are so much fun !! Exporer is not enough compare with the sub or datejust imo ✌

She speaketh the truth. The rolex explorer is just the wimbledon dial of the oyster perpetual family. although I would put yachtmaster and air king as sinner and milgauss as vicar.
After years of hankering for a Sub I think i'd go for the Explorer I now. I don't think its boring at all, it works EVERYWHERE in any situation. OP's are boring, despite the million options you can get. Too much choice leaves you paralysed and they are "common" ;)

In a totally apolitical and purely horological way here, Barack Obama wears a Cellini and I've always seen it and thought "come on, you could do better, get Merkel to help you with a high complication Lange, or be iconoclast and get a burgundy Moser or an FP Journe or even just be yourself with an IWC or Patek". Agree the Day-Date as a class would be Pope tier, but the President specifically HAS to be God-tier. This leaves the Daytona, the Milgauss, the Oyster Perpetual, the Sky Dweller, and the Cellini. Of which I hate the Sky Dweller, I regularly forget about the Cellini's existence, and the other three are alright.
I imagine you're getting ready for your 2023 update of the list. Maybe split the SD43 and the DSSD as they are quite different watches.

Yachtmaster II deserves to be in hell, along with his friend, Cellini. Sea Dweller 43 should be in Pope tier (but I'm biased). Deepsea is now in vicar territory since the specs aren't that impressive anymore (shout out to Omega UD).

if you haven't noticed big watches are in....who the hell wants a 36mm? The daydate and skydweller under the submariner? If daydate isn't God tier nothing deserves to be. Dweller has the most complicated movement of any Rolex.

I hate Rolex. I had a daytona, a sub and a oysterdate and I fought they were ugly so I sold them. Honestly you change the name, you put Festina on them and it’s the same shit. However, I like a festina chronobike better than a 20k Daytona. Except if you add diamonds on it

I have a sub no date , a datejust ll fluted grey dial Roman numerals on oyster bracelet and a dated just 41 rhodium stick on jubilee bracelet. I’ve tried the explorer 1 39 mm and is too plain , I’ve tried the Milgass blue z and the air king and I’m sold on them , they look better in pictures and they catch the eye and are so much fun !!
