30 odd years ago my dad took me to a band called metallica. I was a young kid, around 8 at the time and my dad taking me to see Metallica was something impossible to erase from my memory. 14 years ago my wife entered the wedding venue on Ecstacy of Gold. Our honeymoon was to Rock Werchter 2009 where Metallica closed the festival. They even played Dyer's eve that night, my all time favourite Metallica song. On our 10 year anniversary we went to Metallica in the Amsterdam Arena. Last april i went with my 11 year old son to the 72 seasons kickoff in Amsterdam. My wish was to go with 3 generations but sadly my dad passed away 2 years ago. My son was beaming with amazement at the show and definitely had the time of his life. The shirt i bought him is pretty much worn whenever he can. 3 generations of Metallica fans, i just passed the baton to my son, and hopefully my daughter gets to see them live as well, when hopefully we can go as a family. Thanks for the music Metallica and thank god for Heavy Metal indeed.
72 Seasons is such an impressive release when you really think about it, because even after all these years, they are still writing interesting songs compared to other bands who kind of lose their mojo when they get older. James' voice is better than ever, Lars' drumming still has mojo in it, and they are all still alive and well even through tough times and great times! I'm so grateful that this album exists.
@@No_1_really_ I fully agree with you and is the reason why I didn't go see them, but at the same time, if they put the ticket at 5000$ and it's sold out, why wouldn't they do it ? gotta be logical here
Metallica is among my top 5 favorite bands of all-time, but, 72 Seasons is borrrrrring. As with every Metallica album since the turn of the century, most songs drag on far too long, and some should have been left off the record altogether.

They feel like friends and or family now, I've never met any of them but that's how they feel to me. An they're bigger now than they've ever been, that has been crazy to see over all these years. First time I saw them was on the Damage Inc. Tour supporting their Master Of Puppets album. I saw them about 3 months after Cliffs passing. There was about 6k people at that show and when they come next it'll be 38 years after that show an they're playing two shows at a building that holds 72k fans for football. That is insane. They've just kept getting bigger an bigger. I don't know how they could possibly top this current tour but it won't surprise if they do somehow. It's really been cool to be one of their fans all these years. I just got tickets this morning for a show that won't be played until August of next year. I haven't saw them live since 2003. I'm really excited to see this next show, it'll be their biggest event they've ever done in Seattle. There's already a bunch of sold out sections in the stadium. I may even try to go the second night but I'll probably have to sit up high for that show, the tickets I got this morning were pretty expensive but I'll be close to the stage. So I'm happy, but I'll be happy just to be a part of it.

I remember Zane Lowe first appearing as a presenter/DJ and thinking who is this guy? But he quickly proved he can nail a great interview. Very natural in every genre
Yeah, I remember him at the very end of 1997, appearing on MTV's "Up for It", with Eddie Temple Morris. A good ol' live show, chatting to the camera in the vein of the absolute classic "Most Wanted" , with Ray Cokes from the early 90s. Then a coupla years later, Zane was hosting "Brand New", featuring the latest indie, rock videos. As you said mate, he comes across as a genuine fan , and manages natural conversation with insightful questioning. Be it Metallica or the recent Depeche Mode interview, he really is good.
Loved the flow and energy of this interview. The guys seem very relaxed and open with Zane and he lets them say what they need to say without ever interrupting and asking questions that aren’t the same old repetitive ones you hear from every interview, and the best part is that he’s still such a fan as we all are :) thanks for uploading this one! For anyone wondering what the image on the t-shirt that Kirk is sporting is, it’s a work by Wifredo Lam, arguably the most important artist for cuban painting in the XXth century.

Metallica fans are the luckiest ones. No other band changes the setlist as often as Metallica, no other band embraces its past as Metallica and no other band gives away live stuff for free on UA-cam as Metallica. @@metjovi agree on the generosity that Metallica delivers completely. No band that I have ever seen has the generosity of metallica in that sense. It’s the changing up of the set list which Metallica arms certainly on par with. I think it’s Springsteen’s ability to pull a song name from the audience and the band has to meet that that is the really impressive bit of Springsteen and is band. But full kudos to Metallica, they really are the real deal, particularly when you consider most bands with only vary 3 song across day 100 shows ala Bon Jovi.

Always respected Zane as an interviewer - meeting him once it was really clear that he's a fan at his core and is neither pandering to the band or one of those journalists who interview artists from a scene that he has no understanding of. I love that he's done his homework and drew out an interesting and honest interview. Good also to see Metallica chilled and engaging - they seem more focussed and together than i've seen them for years. As a lifelong fan throughout their ups and downs, this is really heartening to see. Agree with the other comment that this may be one of the best interviews i've seen with them. Good luck on the tour guys, can't wait to check you out at Download!
I adore these four men. How far they've come musically, emotionally, spiritually....connecting to themselves, each other and their tribe. So grounding and inspiring. Thank you James, Lars, Kirk and Robert for your contributions to expressing, feeling, healing, learning and living.
NJ August 4th: top notch, master craftsmen conducting a phenomenal performance, no corners cut, after all the decades this band has not diminished at all, the raw power of Metallica live cannot be bottled: it must be beheld in-person.
'Light comes out of everyones collective darkness.' I've just been at the the two Hamburg concerts, and that sentence makes me kind of emotional right now. 🥺 it's not that easy to transition back into normal life after a weekend like that. I really wonder how metallica does it. It must be like living parallel lives, one day on stage, next day being just a bunch of dudes doing their day to day stuff.
Love these “Metallica” guys. I was 13 when Cliff was killed and I always thought Metallica was a different kind of band and to think they’d stop rocking was unimaginable. To see them over 40 years later is amazing.

Long Live Metallica. 🤘🏽
Justice blows this album out of the water if you want long songs LOL
@@terrymunoztrujillo483 True, though Inamorata is their longest song by a fair bit.
@@terrymunoztrujillo483 okay
There's an incredible album made up of all the closing songs of each Metallica album, all them are top ones
@@terrymunoztrujillo483Dang that really was comedic
You would think after what 20 years Rob isn't the "new guy", he's so humble and immensely talented - great fit for the band.
I think he’s a better fit than Jason. I think Rob don’t want to impede on the threes direction, but I wish he would give his “2 cents” more often. He’s a humble happy guy.
And such a badass bassist!
@@jayyoutube8790 I think the same of Jason, if they would have let his 2 cents in more often and not buried him in the mix he would have really shined, guy was a phenomenal singer too. Rob is such a versatile player and has fit in perfectly since day one, honestly can't say anything bad about either of them.
Saw my first two Metallica shows in St. Louis this year! I could not have asked for a better time. Thank you Metallica! 72 Seasons is a great album.
I do think he acts a bit too much as a fan sometimes, I get it, its frigging Metallica, but I like interviewers to be more neutral.
something about him annoys me. I dont know what it is.
Dude bugs, he’s good but too much smoke blowin’
@@IASP17 he’s cringe and he’s a phony. Loves the sound of his voice and he is high on the smell of his own farts.
This group has been with me almost all my life, I grew up with them, today I raise my children on their music. Just want to say thank you!❤
I love that they actually seem to be having fun in this interview! Zane knows how to make them feel at home and open up.
Zane is by far my favourite for these interviews. So incredible at his craft and always sparks compelling conversations. This is s must watch.
He is cringey af, who ru kidding?
Loved the flow and energy of this interview. The guys seem very relaxed and open with Zane and he lets them say what they need to say without ever interrupting and asking questions that aren’t the same old repetitive ones you hear from every interview, and the best part is that he’s still such a fan as we all are :) thanks for uploading this one! Saving to my favorites 🖤
I like how the wah got its own spot on the b-roll. It's iconic
For anyone wondering what the image on the t-shirt that Kirk is sporting is, it’s a work by Wifredo Lam, arguably the most important artist for cuban painting in the XXth century.
Probably the best interview I've seen with them, they covered a lot here. Very open, very genuine.
"Thank God for heavy metal." I concur Kirk. Without it, I probably wouldn't be here. As a teen, it helped me through ridicule and angst. As an adult, it has helped me through deaths, divorce, etc. This style of music and my guitar are my therapy.
It's so weird seeing them age. It seems like not that long ago, I was watching them in a small club. Life goes by fast kids.
All of the guy’s still look great, but James genuinly looks so good! He looks healthy, happy!
He’s ‘ in love’ again. That makes life sweet.
i love metallica since 84 and I love u kirk. Hearing you talk is great I 've always wanted to hear your opinion. this was great, this shows growth. Props to the interviewer.
I went to Amsterdam and they sounded great. They continue to deliver for the fans
This album is so clean and turned up at full, sounds FANTASIC!
Thank you Metallica for being a part of my life !🤘🏻
The concert in Hamburg was insane, especially the second one. They played so many great songs, and the sound was also stunning.
Yes, it was! I am so happy I was part of that - thanks, guys!
For me it was the first show that was the standout lol
i liked the first even more ^^
Amazing interview, Zane can always be trusted to bring out the best in Metallica.
Music is the only hope we have left for humanity. When you truly belong to a band and are a die hard fan, when u go to a show u can be side by side with ur worst enemy n it all goes away. U find urself hugging like brothers jamming to music n seeing the bigger picture
Love this interview. The honesty, the laughs. Love it. Superb album.
Rob thank you for saving Metallica!!
Trips me out that I first saw these guys 39 years ago when I was 12 years old. Time flies....
9:34 that is so so true when i went to their show a few weeks ago and when they played ecstasy of gold the entire stadium already knew that the guys were here and we were about to experience the music right in front of our eyes. and it truly is an amazing feeling, i had goosebumps and on the verge of tears the entire time no joke
Makes me happy that these guys are at this level still.
This guy is a great interviewer. Asks good questions that provoke thoughtful answers and gives them time to speak.
I traveled from Brazil to France just to see them again. It was my 6th and 7th show in the 3rd continent and I would do it all over again every day of my life
Lol get a life dude
I'm glad you guys did not stop making music, this album is killer!
This guy has a great taste for music, INAMORATA is my favourite song from the album
I love this band! I seen them a lot in the 90's and I was always upfront. I always felt like they made a huge effort to let the fans know they seen you and they were happy you were there.
This interview showed me again why I am in love with these guys! They try to bring a new show every time they pass through the country. And they want to bring the fans closer and closer. I love you guys!
And about the structure, simply: Wow!!!
When James said Thank you Tony and Cliff. My heart burst. 🤘🔥
What an amazing interview for any Metallica fan❤ These guys are so intelligent and articulate, as well as being the most talented musicians on the planet. You feel like you know them after watching this❤
Metallica is just incredible. Even when they make mistakes during their tours, you can't even feel it. No matter how they play, it just sounds incredible. Love those guys!!! Continue amazing us Metallica, you guys just ROCK!
Metallica fans are the luckiest ones. No other band changes the setlist as often as Metallica, no other band embraces its past as Metallica and no other band gives away live stuff for free on UA-cam as Metallica. You can say whatever you want of James, Lars, Kirk and Rob, but those guys truly love their fans beyond the money.
Love for Metallica but Springsteen does.
@@davidharding200 Nope. Just checked out his UA-cam channel and there's no full concerts for free. See what I'm talking about? I love many artists and bands, but Metallica took its media to another level.
I think this is one of the greatest Metallica interviews I’ve ever seen. I can’t wait for August.
Great interview. I’ve never seen Lars sit back so much though. Nice to see Kirk speak up.
"Metallica" At It's Best Talking About The Snake Pit In Canada. From Joey Alaniz From Houston, Texas De Magnolia Park Neighborhood And To All The Fans Around Here. Rock On Metallica !
Kirk and rob shook my hand as they entered the arena and I haven't washed it since
they’re the nicest of the bunch
Can’t express how much I love Kirk.
THE GREATEST BAND IN ALL THE LAND
Yeah they slid by on someone else’s riffs for a minute then phoned it in for decades 😂😂😂Lol 😂
@Dana Blue Phantom Lord & Jump In The Fire ? And the Spider riff part from Ride The Lighting ? Yea they owe their success to Mustaine 😂
@@pastorofmuppets777 Mustaine, that you?
@@issacrodriguez91 I was going to say they owe their great songs to Cliff but yeah Dave wrote some greats as well
@@pastorofmuppets777 Tie a rope real tightly around your neck
I love Lar's insight at the end, he really runs the show and knows the game
Metallica saved a lot of Lifes.
Hope you all life 120 years because you deserve that METALLICA
I had the privilege of seeing them in 1997, Pyramid Memphis TN! I was 15 and it was the best experience of my life!! Metallica will always be my home. 🤘
Zane Lowe is an excellent interviewer! So obvious that he knows the band almost as much as the band knows themselves. One of the best Metallica interviews I've watched.
Leo (AKA to Metallica as "Ron").
I love Kirk so much. He's really become the emo star child of the band. So special.
Good vibrations
Hes loco af
I just said the same thing out loud! I LOVE HIM!!
@@13panda13 he’s hilarious, too
I adore these four men. How far they've come musically, emotionally, spiritually....connecting to themselves, each other and their tribe. So grounding and inspiring. Thank you James, Lars, Kirk and Robert for your contributions to expressing, feeling, healing, learning and living.
What a great interview! Thank you!
Man, these guys just feel like family. Like home.
GREAT INTERVIEW! - Metalli-twin Kevin 💛♠️
This band is and always will be awesome!! Timeless music. Rock on!! @metallica
What a great interview by Zane. He really gave them the opportunity to open up. I love Kirk’s insights. He’s so gentle and introspective
its always fun hearing james, one day i wish to see hetfield and mustaine talk one on one for hours
NJ August 4th: top notch, master craftsmen conducting a phenomenal performance, no corners cut, after all the decades this band has not diminished at all, the raw power of Metallica live cannot be bottled: it must be beheld in-person.
'Light comes out of everyones collective darkness.'
I've just been at the the two Hamburg concerts, and that sentence makes me kind of emotional right now. 🥺 it's not that easy to transition back into normal life after a weekend like that. I really wonder how metallica does it. It must be like living parallel lives, one day on stage, next day being just a bunch of dudes doing their day to day stuff.
I feel ya on not being easy to transition back.
Listen to Bob Seger's/Metallica's Turn the page.
Love these “Metallica” guys. I was 13 when Cliff was killed and I always thought Metallica was a different kind of band and to think they’d stop rocking was unimaginable. To see them over 40 years later is amazing.
This has to be one of the best metallica interviews
I agree with James & Kirk, when I sit there and listen to the silence all I hear is ringing in both ears!!
49:04 - this is what I wanted to see - the engineering solutions for creating this amazing production! I would love to see an in-depth interview with the stage crew and the guitar techs for how they solved the problems created by a 360^o stage! Amazing work from all of the teams involved!
I've never been a "metal" fan per sey, but as a working musician, I've ALWAYS been a Metallica fan. I can listen to interviews with them all day.
Me too! ❤
