Im 24 years old... I never thought I'd ever get to even see them in person. I was there in the audience today to see this in person and I was honestly so starstruck. They've been doing this longer than I've been alive!!
That is amazing!! A memory you will never ever forget.
So lucky!!! What time did you get in line?
So jealous 🤘🏻
Consider yourself blessed to have gotten the experience!
Im 37 and they have been doing it longer than i was alive aswell.....
"Are you happy about your children's involvement in music?"
"No my son's a drummer"
Literally the most James Hetfield reply you will ever hear
Only could have been better had he been a bass player 😂
Probably worried about the spontaneous human combustion common in drummers.
BEST. LINE. EVER. lol
Bastardane is heavier than Metallica now. Let that sink in.
silly James
James feels like 10 years younger than before he went to rehab...damn, feels good to see him in that shape again!
His new gf might also be the reason hehe

Metallica did not need Stranger Things to keep their legacy alive, but it's exciting to know that their music has been exposed to a new generation of fans. I heard Master of Puppets when I was a teenager and I thought it was one of the heaviest songs I ever heard. Never thought it would go as mainstream as it did with ST. Rock on🤘
Alot of songs on ST came back in a big way and Ive noticed that almost ALL if Netflix originals have alot of music in them that it is obvious they are trying to use it as a Music discovery platform as well which is great!
I can say the same with Kate Bush's Running up that Hill those were literally the top 2 songs of the summer last year. That's all you would hear everywhere you went. And I did not mind one bit
One of the things I'm looking forward to musically is that ST season 5 might be set in 1989 with them as seniors in high school.
@Daryal nope. They've been selling out stadiums for decades
@Daryal even without ST, Master of Puppets remains one of the best metal song that came out in the last 35+ years or so
Experiencing Metallica in person during their Master of Puppets tour opening for Ozzy was one of the greatest nights of my teenage life. Simply amazing!
They’re so cool

Riiiiiight
Hetfield has always struck me as such a chill, down to earth dude. He's funny, witty, talented, and seems like a kind friendly guy, what a legend. I want to work on cars with him
He's easily the most well-spoken of the band. Lars likes to hear himself talk, which is too bad, but I wanted to hear James talk more. His interviews actually make you feel like you're learning something about the band or how he appreciates music.

I’m 39, black and have been a Metallica fan since 2004!
I love them!
Got to see them perform live here in ATL at Battery a few years ago. What an amazing experience!
Interesting that you bring up that you're black. Metal (rock in general) is the offspring of Little Richard and Chuck Berry. Metal is the music of YOUR race and we whites respect and appreciate it.

Nearly 54, remember the first time I saw them open for Ozzy and was mesmerized by the audience all banging their heads in unison. Long live Cliff!
If that ozzy tour was in the 80s, I remember that. It’s when I first started hearing about Metallica. I think it was master of puppets album that was out at that time.
@@ChicagoJ351 Yep, The Ultimate Sin / Master of Puppets tour. Summer '86.
I'm 53 and saw that same tour when they opened for Ozzy!
Same here... 54 and first time hearing them was a new guy from California who came to my Virginia school in 1984 and let me listen to his Walkman during lunch. I was hooked!
Creeping Death?
Hate to say it but Kirks answer about the 1st album he bought was wholesome AF! Love that guy!!
Why do you hate to say it?
Because you don't want to picture Kirk listening to the PF. Come on get Happy.
Id love him even if he said he jammed on gospel music.
Kirk is an outlier. You knew his answer was going to be something unexpected.
He was probably the only one being honest.
It’s so rare to find a band that has stayed together for 40 years and are still as successful as they are. There of been bands that had a good run for about 15 years and then broke up for five or six years and got back together, but I think they’re the only band that has just consistently kept going like they have on the level they are at. For good reason too. If you see them live, you will understand why their fan bases as loyal as we are.
maybe The Rolling Stones, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Radiohead, Green Day.
AC/DC…
I was in hospital when Lux æterna dropped, having chemotherapy, and to say my spirits were lifted would be an understatement! I’ve been a fan of Metallica since 1985 so, now, Metallica is a lifestyle choice and even though I can’t always afford to see them live, the music always lifts me up. I’m a grateful Mettalicat!
A friend and I met and partied with Lars, Kirk and James back in '89-90 after a Warrior Soul show at the Cactus Club in San Jose, Ca. Even had Lars autograph my And Justice For All concert ticket from the Shoreline Amphitheater. It was a night I will never forget.
Details please
Honestly, i love the fact that a Warrior Soul show was involved. That band never got the love they deserved.

Lol, only 4 billion of us started trying to play Metallica songs and when we got a band attempted their covers!
I've been listening to Metallica for a bit over 2 years and they are a huge part of me getting into playing guitar. I'm a part of the younger generation and I'm really excited for the new album and I'll be picking it up from the local record store Friday. Well, Metallica and Van Halen.
James looks so happy and well. It´s great to see him like that.
Just saw them in Detroit, both nights. Such an incredible show. Their new stage design with the towers is insane, and they can still blow the roof off. True rock gods.
"No, my son's a drummer!" lmao!!!
Love seeing those four big smiles on their faces!

The love i have for these guys is unmeasurable!!! I’m 70 years old now and enjoy them more than ever. Thanks for staying together for all of us !!!!
Man. Metallica are just so awesome. Love these guys and their music ESPECIALLY!
🤟🏻Master of Puppets was the first metal album I ever heard and it TOTALLY blew my mind back in 1989. I’d never even heard distorted guitar before then. I have been a fan ever since and became a professional musician myself, eventually finding success (ironically) as a composer of relaxation music. 34 years later - STILL LOVE Metallica.
For me it was "Give me fuel, give me fire, give me that which I desire..."
Awesome story, and where do you go from Master of Puppets I mean it's so iconic in the realm of Thrash Metal, no ?

James' goofy laugh always makes me smile. Happy to see him healthy and smiling.
My 3 yr old is a HUGE Metallica fan so we are taking him to one of the shows! He loves singing along to the MoP and RtL albums, he even makes the guitar noises during the solos. Every morning he wants to listen to For Whom the Bell Tolls live '85 in Oakland, Day on the Green. Yes, he is very specific about this video and even says "Hi Cliff" like James does in the beginning
I've seen Metallica several times at festivals. Blew me away every time. Just awesome.
So awesome
You owe it to yourself to see them on their own headlining tours. It's a sight to behold. Festivals are one thing, but the energy in those arenas when literally everyone is there to see Metallica is powerful.

Heavy metal yet very light and fun interview! These guys are tooo humble!
Lars and James did work their humbleness indeed
@@ROMIX2944 I mean, they are already old and the older the wiser. Now they are very kind and humble, that's nice!
I sincerely appreciate it when bands write and play some incredibly powerful, energetic or even brutal stuff, but are really just kind people. Kalmah is an example, they just want to go hunting and they still keep their day jobs cutting down trees and stuff (at least I think that's what they do lmao). It's the Axl Roses of the metal world that kinda bring stuff down once in a while. I think even Nergal from Behemoth is, in general, a nice guy, he's mainly angry at the backwardness of Poland I think. Doesn't really hold a grudge against anyone else.
When I was in middle school I was influenced by gangster rap and I was heading on the wrong path in life. But thanks to my dad, he had a metallica Ride the lightning album. And me and my brother listened to it one day and it completely changed both of our lifes. I still remember listening to for whom the bell tolls and saying now this real music! Soon after we both started picking up guitars.. Metallica literally save/change my life for the better. Thank you metallica.
Awesome story!
Metal is life and power.
It staggers me, the thought of how many people have a story like yours.
That's so strange to me. I eventually discovered Metallica and GNR but I listen to black metal and it's not like I want to become a satanist or burn down churches. I just find the music to have more raw power and energy and even more "fun" than most popular metal... so it's strange to me to read that gangsta rap would actually affect you to go down a different path. Is there no way to disconnect the imagery with the music and just enjoy the genre for what it is? Or is gangsta rap really that convincing?
Wow bro, I have a similar story growing up, listening to gangsta rap, hanging out with people the same, bad neighborhoods. Met a dude around my age at that time that played guitar, I just happened to walk by him and he was playing the nice/flamenco guitar part in To Live Is To Die, and I told him, "teach me that, it's the most beautiful thing I ever heard, I have to know how to play it", he did and I started playing guitar that day and every day after that. To Live Is To Die by Metallica saved my life! Started playing guitar at 15. I'm 43 now and still play.
@@Talons13 I hope you've paid it forward and taught it to someone else! :)
That first single was such a shock when it dropped in November. I remember distinctly standing in line in the coffee shop and seeing the test with the link, clicking it, and being utterly blown away. I must have played it a dozen times that day. I couldn't get enough!
Master of Puppets song is an entity by its own and it will live forever more beautiful every passing time!

They are both successful adults. One a recon in the Army and one a NY Realtor. I have 5 grandkids now. Time flies. I still crank you up while driving in my 4 cylinder SUV. It used to be a 67 Mustang Fastback, but well... like I said... time flies.

Had nothing to do with anything.
Thats amazing! Good for you Metalli-grandma!😀
I love Metallica to the core. I am 33 years old and I chose the hard way to live and make money with music only because of the love for music that Metallica nurtured in me. I am eternally grateful to them. I compose music in the style of Soul, R&B and electronica. Mostly calm and atmospheric music for the soul. But I always try to do it through the prism of love for my only and last idols in life.
A shame you then chose to express your regard for them by choosing such crappy music genres to compose in. Metal is music for the soul.
Watch out for that mafia big music industry, man that stuff is super shady
I am 40 years old and have been jamming Metallica since I was in 4th grade! Metal legends!

But when they come on the radio the years fade away.
Anyone notice that Kirk was holding the pick through the whole show? :D
The pick of DESTINY
Saw them when I was 20 at the pyramid in Memphis in 1997....I'll never ever forget it, had a crush on Hetfield ever since......
Love this band, I’m 42 from the U.K. and have been listening to them since I was 15. I’ve been lucky enough to see them live on five occasions.
I’m a long time ‘tallica fan (I’ll be 50 in September) and it’s just really cool to see them having fun and be part of the mainstream to some extent. I sometimes get chills when I think about how long I’ve been a fan and how much they’ve overcome to get where they are. That, and the younger fan base is checking them out, too. That’s truly an amazing thing. 🤘
I had that Partridge Family album too…amazing Kirk!🤘🏻
After all they've been through it's so cool to see them (apparently!) so at ease with each other and having a great time. If you've been in a band that long and are still successful then you gotta be grateful.
Sometimes, it's probably gratifying knowing you can settle back in your band a bit and not worry about having to break up and start a new band. I think you're right, they're probably grateful of their position.
this is such good timing, i just started learning master of puppets, now that i'm finally okay enough at the guitar, and they're gonna be on tv playing it wednesday. this whole week is gonna be so cool!!
This is such a fantastic interview; the chemistry among them is so good and natural. The vibe is so good. These guys are also essentially solely responsible for my interest in learning and mastering guitar. The new stuff is pretty good, but as others have said, just seeing them in shape this good is really inspiring regardless.
Eeeenh, I don't want to take anything away, glad you enjoyed it. To me, it's not that good of an interview, it's just an intro to them playing for the week. You're not really learning anything new. And Kirk and Rob are blatantly in "their place," in the back, quiet. It's great they're still together, but you're looking at a very obvious hierarchy. But they do seem healthy and happy.
The new song is absolutely killer😎......
Master of puppets is my all-time favorite 🍀
It's like most people don't accept new band members over the years either love the band's music or you don't!!

I've been listening to Masterof Puppets since day one. I recall my garage party playing it at full blast and the neighbors complaining and staring out the window

This is so great, super excited to see Metallica for 3 nights on TV!!! Kimmel is at another level lol
My first live show was Metallica at the Cow Palace in 1992, when I was 12. My room was plastered with their posters and I had a different one of their shirts for every day of the week!! I ALSO was in marching band throughout high school (low brass, baby!!) and it tickles me so much to think of them gifting their music to marching bands like that. I love these guys so much ... I work as a bartender each year at Lollapalooza and I can't even tell you how cool it felt to hear and see them live again after a long time, even though I was working through the show. These guys are such old pros and the way they respect their audience is a fine example to younger artists. Thanks so much for featuring them!!🙌
Glad to have had the opportunity to see them live a few years back. MOP is my all time fave album.
so excited for their new music!! seeing them in august for the first time
Craig Ferguson's Metallica Week was amazing. Good old days.
Been listening to Metallica ever since the Black album, when I was 12. I quickly went back and got all the previous cassettes, and officially became obsessed. I haven’t missed an album since. Seeing the younger generations (including my own kids) jump aboard the ‘tallica Train is an amazing thing.
My Boys! We're from the same town, same age, grew up together (so to speak) I'm thrilled Stranger Things introduced the young crowd to their fantastic music ❤ they totally deserve the hype! I'm so happy to see them! I'm almost crying 😂 good job guys!
"no, my son's a drummer" LOL
Which is funny as James does know how to play drums. Somewhere out there I found a video of one of their concerts and He, Jason, Kirk and Lars switched instruments to play Am I Evil? by Diamond Head. James drummed, Kirk played Bass guitar, Jason played lead guitar and Lars sang the song. If Lars had ever done a side project, he'd make a good frontman.
I remember listening to Metallica ever since I was a baby thanks to my Dad. I'm 33 now and they are still going strong. Still hoping I can see them live one of these days!!
These guys really shaped the soundtrack of my youth. A fan since 1986 (I was 14 that time), seen them many times live, and this is the first album after Justice that sounds promising enough to buy it.
