    "Keep quitting until you quit" is how I finally quit. It works. I relapsed for 10 years but kept quitting and tapering down. Now I've been sober for 17 months and never want to go back. Living sober has given me so much time and energy to live my life and forge ahead.

      Congratulations! Are you attending AA? It works, it really does. There’s so much behind my alcoholism that I could not stop any other way and it’s only through the grace of God that I’ve been given my sobriety

      @@5thdimension625 No, I did it myself but I have nothing but great respect for AA. It just isn't for me. It, unfortunately, triggered me to drink no matter how many times I tried AA. It also triggered my depression listening to the stories. But that's just me. I have seen AA work miracles many times. I am very happy for you that you are sober. God's grace also has led me to sobriety.

    I quit on and off for days like you described, quit for 30 days, fell off and went a few months of hard drinking again, then really made up my mind and throw time I’m on 45 days sober now. You helped me so much when you said “Just don’t drink TODAY”. Also filling that void with something healthy like walking and working out helped so much. You’re right about when you get to that one and you know that’s it, you’re done drinking.

They gave me a steroid shot, got hydrated, prescription for headaches and also a big surprise from staff.. they encouraged me to stay sober and even met a tech who shared her sobriety story with me. BOY the universe is not playing with me lol.. I left there feeling uplifted because I was really in the dumps I still don't want a drink despite this. 1dayatatime Thank you this is better than AA!! Been sober 2 & one half years. I did something similar. I started setting limits and say just would drink on my days off. Then started doing alcohol fasts. The goal was not to stop drinking forever but to assert control over it. Either you are going to control it or it will control you.

    • @butch843
      @butch843 3 роки тому +3

      Also it's like what Jordan Peterson says. You have to want some goal or desire in life more than drinking and it better be pretty good one because alcohol is pretty fun. But anyway my fasts became longer and you can really eventually get to where you prefer not drinking to drinking.

      I’ve been alcohol free for over 11 months now. Every now and then I try to remind myself of the good parts of alcohol and the downside of being sober. Hard as I think I can’t seem to locate the good aspects of drinking or the negatives of being sober. I’m better able to think, I’ve no brain fog. I wake up happy to be alive. I’m not searching my memory for offensive things I’ve said, or planning my next drinking session. I better looking 😂😂😂. Ok the last one isn’t true but the others are. I wish good luck to all fellow travellers on this path. ❤❤❤👍👍👍

    Exactly. I'm roughly five weeks free of booze right now, and I think this is "the one" for me. Of course that's something I said before too, but this time really does feel hugely different from past times. I never think about it and walking past the booze shelf of the supermarket I actively don't want to look at the bottles on display because I feel repulsed by it now. I'd honestly probably throw up if I even had a sip of any type of booze. I also didn't log the exact day I quit, which is something I always did in the past and always had a phone app to track the number of days - probably to make me feel virtuous. This time I don't give a f**k what day or date I quit because I'm not counting. It's irrelevant. I feel inside like it's done and over with so why bother counting something I don't do anymore ? I may even be six weeks booze free today for all I know. The point is, I don't know or care. It's like counting the days since you last stuck a knife in your arm and being happy you haven't done it for 2 months. Makes no sense.
    Also, all of the previous times I quit I was always constantly looking in shops and online for the best and most real substitutes from day one, like the best tasting alcohol free beer or de-alcholized wine. This time I never wanted anything remotely resembling booze. I'm perfectly happy with apple juice, Kombucha, tea, water, even in this crazy hot weather which was always my kryptonite when it came to a few cold beers (more like many many cold beers).
    So, thank you for your encouragement Tim. You definitely helped to reinforce it in my head. All I can say to people who are still drinkers - keep trying and I hope you get to your version of "the one" sometime soon.

    Thats really good advice for any addiction. I had been quitting my gambling addiction for 6 years. Self-exclusion lists. Hotline calls. Ga meetings. They all contributed to me ultimately walking away from gambling forever. But the main thing that I worked on when I did quit was the why. What had I not dealt with that's causing me to destroy myself? I think that's what made the difference

    • @threethrushes
      @threethrushes 3 роки тому +1

As you know yourself its been well worth the pain to come out the other side and thoroughly enjoy the gift of sobriety. Great video all the best.

    I decided to stop drinking 7 years ago. Got into a fight with my son(18 years old) and I said that's it. There is NO good reason for me to be drinking. Without drinking I now have more energy to get things done. I have the whole day to do whatever I want. When you get drunk you potentially ruin the next day. I just went cold turkey because my wife and son are worth it. At first it's hard to go to parties and events where it seems everyone else is drinking but there are also many other people that are also not drinking. YOU DO NOT NEED TO DRINK TO ENJOY LIFE.

    Definitely didn't have an issue with alcohol but I did notice on the weekend I started spending too much time at the bar. I would have 2 or 3 drinks at most.
    Even tho it was only on the weekend I found myself thinking "why am I sitting here drinking something I have no desire to drink?". I discovered I was there to pass time, fill a void.
    I told myself "man, get a hobby". I signed up for a gym membership to Workout Anytime 24/7 gym. I have a Planet fitness membership but they close at 7pm on the weekends. Now, instead of going to the bar at 7pm, I head on over to Workout Anytime and get on the treadmill for 2 hours while listening to jazz or audio books. Once I'm finished with my 2 hour walk , I shower and head home with absolutely NO DESIRE to do anything but have a good nights rest.
    I'm very happy I'm not sitting at a bar around people I really don't want to be around drinking something I have no desire to drink just to pass time.
    Drinking was never an issue for me and I want to ensure it never becomes one.
    Keep making videos bruh!

    I stopped drinking about a month and half ago after about 20 years of drinking and giving up, drinking, giving up.
    I also used to count the days I was sober.
    This time I crossed of the first few weeks, Only because I was telling myself what I was feeling, why I couldn't sleep, being anxious, was because I was in a certain stage of withdrawals.
    I don't count any more because most of the withdrawals are over, and I believe the more you think about not having a drink, reinforces the desire to have a drink.
    I want to concentrate on better thoughts that belong to being sober.
    Hope that makes sense 😁

    That was helpful. I have quit drinking a few times. I have always started again. I can;t imagine a life without alcohol. I want to be one of those people who can have drinks and not let drinks have me. the Bible says wine brings joy to the heart and that's what I get when I drink, but sometimes I just keep drinking and then in the morning, there is no joy, just regret and self disgust.

But eventually I realized that there were other ways to get happy and bring joy into my life that didn't cause me so much pain. I equate it to like a food allergy, I might really like strawberries but if they make me sick I would probably stop eating them. The same is true with alcohol. Good luck!

    Good stuff Tim. All any of us have is today. The longest I went was 4 years, but I've got a little over a month now. I LOVE being sober! It's a spiritual journey, and its unique to each person. "If we fail to enlarge our spiritual life we will surely drink again." --Big Boof of AA

    I agree with you 100 percent. From 2019 to 2020 i was deployed to Bagram Afghanistan and i could not drink there. I lost most of my belly and i looked and felt better than i had in years. I came back and was stuck in the pandemic. All i did was work and drink. Then a year later it caught back up to me. Terrible acid reflux and weight gain and bloated look again. Feeling like crap most days of the week. Last weekend and this weekend the stomach pain was almost too much to bear. I cannot drink normally. I know this with all my knowing! Tried for years to control my drinking. I am now 49 yrs old. I do not wanna go into my 50's a drunk. I have wasted so much of my life a drunkard. I cannot get those years back. Most of my friends have kids and a wife. Not me! I drank through all those years. Alcohol was my wife. So here's to nenewed sobriety and healthy living because i cannot continue destroying myself. Thanks for the content! Really helped me.

    I wish I can say I’ve been sober for X weeks or X years.
    I stopped for 4 days, I drank 2 beers and I threw the 3rd one down the drain because I’ve noticed the buzz isn’t worth it!!!
    All it does is limit my life! Fuuuuu
