COOL VIDEO
Thank you!
This is basically just the introduction to the rest of the series 😉
Simon! Welcome to the Left Coast of the Colonies! Yes, the area around SLC's Rio Grande Station has been on a downward slide for several decades, now. You did get to drive past Magna and the exit to Toole, which is sort of cool in the AM....the bombing range for USAF from Hill AFB, the salt flats, and the idyllic burg of Wendover! Glad you met with Dale and Karyn! Andale!
"Prayers are answered."
"Miracles happen."
"Dreams come true."
G. B. Handy
Ha! Thank you.
Yes, I enjoyed the drive to Ely.
And yes, it was so nice to spend some time with Dale and Karyn.
Thanks again!
roses are red, violets are blue

@@ThatBIGTRAINGuy I knew you were a great guy! which is why I subbed, yeah I like trains too and that kind of had soooome weight too. :)
Have a great day!
Hi Simon... always enjoy your new postings... looking forward to the upcoming ones.... thanks.
Hiya! Thank you.
Many to come. - I gave myself a lot of work to do.
Hi Simon. Great to see your videos. Thanks for participate the trip. Can't wait to see more.😊
That's great. Thank you for watching! 😁
The Rio Grande sign is not illuminated right now due to construction. They are reinforcing the building after it was damaged in the 2020 earthquake.
Thanks. I was sure I'd seen photos post-earthquake with it illuminated.
So, work is going ahead? Do you know if there are plans of the building being used again soon?
Most excellent
Awesome
Thank you! 😁
Oh Grande, you’re saving me from having to make this trip! Gracias 🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂👏👏👏
Haha! It's OK, I made the expense and effort so you can ride along with me 😂👍
Brilliant, fantastic journey, bet you are right in your element. Looking forward to your next instalment. Thanks for taking the time off to post.
Totally in my element. Yes.
I was sad to be back home.
Thank you!
Fab!
I'd like to go to Utah, someday.
I grew up going to those two stations. I'm sad that you weren't able to go into either of them. The inside of the Rio Grande station is gorgeous.
You did? Wow!
Yeah it is a shame. At least one of them is having some work done. Hopefully the other one will also get some care soon. 🤞
Hello Simon, an interesting first travel report from your trip to the USA. Well filmed and fantastic pictures. Thank you for showing and best regards Wolfgang
Thank you Wolfgang. The first of many!
All the best. Simon
Precision planning. If I'd done that Maiden would have been on the night AFTER I left!
Haha! Well, they actually did play after I left too. 😂
"Precision Planning" a.k.a. Precision Scheduled Railroading, is NOT what he will witness on the rails owned by Uncle Pete!
Looks like a great itinerary Simon, enjoy.
It was amazing. I've been home two weeks and I'm not happy about it 😂
Thank you. I have so much to share!
Cool! I’ll watch the rest of the playlist soon!
Ooh yay! Brilliant!
I'm really proud of these videos, (and I'm not even half done!)
Thanks Becster! 😁
I'm excited to see all of the stops on your trip. I'm glad you got the touch base with Dale while you were here, he is quite the amazing guy. He actually went to high school with my brother.
Oh I saw some great things and places. I have a lot to share.
Yes, I was very pleased to meet up with Dale and Karyn. Lovely people. Cool he went to school with your brother!
Thanks Merv.
So stoked to go on this journey, hope you enjoyed your time in the states!
I had the best time ever. I was sad to return home.
Thanks for watching!
Waiting for the next installment.
Me too 😁
@@ThatBIGTRAINGuy I would hope so! Safe travels.
Great first vid on the adventure Simon with a little bit of IM thrown in aswell😃Cant wait for the next one.I aways seem to get the trolly with the wonky wheel🤔
Yes, well I have had the Maiden mug in so many of my videos, it was nice of them to turn up to be in one themselves 😉
Ha! You wouldn't want a wobbly wheel on THESE trolleys.
Cool , i went there in 1999.
Nice! Did you manage to see inside then?
Looks awesome. I'll be doing something similar in September.
Looks like you met ToyMan Television too - that's really cool! 🇺🇸🇬🇧🇪🇺👍
Oh wow! What's on your agenda?
Yes. Dale, Karyn and myself had a nice time together. You'll see soon. 😊
@@ThatBIGTRAINGuy I plan to visit Golden, Georgetown, Cumbres, Durango, and a couple of others too! 🇬🇧🇺🇸😎👍
very nice so far Si.
Thank you.
Just getting started 😉
@@ThatBIGTRAINGuy absolutely....
Hi Simon. I am now finally able to start catching up with UA-cam. GREAT intro. Or should I say grande? Also… Iron Maiden!! Soooo jealous. They have been on my bucket list since the early 1980s.
Heeeey Terry! Thanks so much. I hope you enjoy the series.
Oh you need to see Iron Maiden! I'd say they keep getting better with each tour, but they can't be around forever. (They're in their 60s now!)
@@ThatBIGTRAINGuy yeah I know! They played in Ottawa not too long before we moved to Casselman. Casselman is 40 mins to downtown Ottawa.
@@Terrys-Steam-and-Bricks Ohh noooo, that sucks. So close!
@@ThatBIGTRAINGuy yep. Lol. Just my luck. Once they played in Vancouver and I could gave gone over to see them but I was in a musical (lead) and their show was on our second performance.
@@Terrys-Steam-and-Bricks Noooooo 🤦🏻♂️
Hey Simon ... Dr. Ric in Williamsburg, Virginia, USA. Main comment I would/can make is good you are safe. But, must say, I can and will avoid St. Lake City, Utah re steam train enjoyment. Have visited all the main steam train sites out west, but anything in similar regard in St. Lake worth doing is pretty much ill-defined in my opinion. Your video experience in St. Lake confirms my statement. Looking forward to your reporting yet to come. Curious ... where you on your own for the two weeks visit or did you have a companion to share driving and expenses? You obviously had a great deal of territory to cover. Cheers, R
Hi Dr Ric.
Well, I wasn't expecting to see much more than these station buildings as a starting line for my adventure. Rio Grande Station is very significant to what I was doing. I was excited to see it.
This was a solo trip. Just me and my hired Mitsubishi Outlander as my partner. Although, in my mind I wasn't alone because I was talking to you guys, the viewers, over the whole two weeks.
I did bump into a few people I knew along the way, but I was traveling alone.
I have so much to share!
Cheers
Simon
Salt Lake is awesome
The inside of the Union Pacific depot was where they filmed parts of dumb and dumber
I just looked that up. The charity ball with the owls. Wow! I didn't know this before. Thanks!
I also just learned it was filmed in Park City too. I was there in 2016, and in my video I actually used the same song as the soundtrack (though we were leaving, when in the movie they were arriving).
I made a feature-length documentary of that trip, with Dumb and Dumber references throughout!
I'll put a link, but incase UA-cam blocks it:

Cool. Much of the movie is filmed in different SLC locations, including their apartment, the airport, etc. @@ThatBIGTRAINGuy
@@mattreedah Yeah, I can't believe I've never looked into the locations before. Thanks for giving me the pointer!
