Official Denver and Rio Grande Western RR comment: We appreciate you taking your times exploring the remains of our vast system both narrow and standard gauge we hope you enjoy it and you’ve goto crack a bottle of Jack Daniels
It doesn't matter when you find them. What's important is that you are enjoying them, and for that I am very happy. Glad to have you with me. Thanks John!
Thank you so much. The museum is great, it's a real labour of love by those that keep it. I'm looking forward to their steam engine emerging! I have another 11 - 12 episodes to do from this trip, plus a whole bunch of other videos to do. I'm really struggling to fit in video editing into my hectic life, but they WILL come out at some point. Anyway, thanks again! Simon
The railbus is a fascinating machine along with the other exhibits. I can see how, in its heyday, the rail bus was well suited to it roll. Nice to see that so many have been preserved for historic cultural heritage.
Indeed! But there are railbuses, and there are the Galloping Geese. I'm not sure why, but I feel these are particularly characterful. They were very efficient and kept the railroad running a for a few more years, saving the expensive steam trains for heavier freight, such as cattle and such. It's so sad they only ran for tourists for two years. I have DVDs with plenty of footage from those years though. Thanks Steve!
Hello Simon, that was a very interesting video from your trip to the Ridgway Railroad Museum, Colorado. The galloping geese and the many carriages and wagons on display are fantastic. Very nice the small diesel locomotive PLYMOUTH and the very nice historical pictures and the interior of the car. I have the short Caboos #0577 and #0578 and three long Caboos. I have number 4 of the Golloping Goose in old condition and number 1. Your video is very nice and thank you for showing it. Kind regards Wolfgang
Hi Wolfgang. I'm glad you enjoyed. A very nice collection of historic items. I also have two long cabooses, and I have Goose 7 in the freight configuration. Thank you! Simon
❤ magnificent as always! We need to get back over there. Last time we were there the depot was somebody’s house, and I had no idea that the passenger car been brought down from Trout Lake. I guess we need to get out more!
Oh you didn't know? They have pictures of the recovery on their website. It's really beautiful now, especially compared to what condition it was before. You'll have to visit when the new steam engine is delivered, whenever that may be! Thanks Dale.
You'll know 😉. Just not sure how to present them at the moment. I took hundreds of pictures of rail stock from here, Chama, Antonito (and along the Cumbres & Toltec line) and Colorado Railroad Museum, plus buildings in Durango, Silverton, Antonito and Leadville. Thanks very much! Greetings from England 👍
Wow what a place.Galloping geese it seems were ahead of their time.Trains now seem to be more and more like busses.Loved the little Plymouth. You do realise your going to have to go back when they get their steamer so you can show us. Amazing video again mate👍
Haha! You're right, they set the trend. That Plymouth is very cute! Yeah, that new engine should be quite something. Look up the 'Eureka' (build around 1875), and that will give you the idea, - but brand new??? Amazing. Thanks David! 👍
Thank you! It surprises me too. I can share the videos only so much, the rest is down to the will of UA-cam. If everyone keeps watching, and interacting, that's all we can do. Gracias Tomas!
Yeah, that's going to be something special and should be a big draw for the museum. And possibly another "old" 4-4-0 for touring other railroads? Wouldn't that be cool. Thank you!
Oh yes, I have noticed your caboose. I didn't mean to get two of the same number, but why not make it three? 🤣 Yeah, that Plymouth is cute! Cheers Terry!
@@Terrys-Steam-and-Bricks Ah, well those three of mine are plastic. One of my long cabooses is all brass though. ...and I DO have a handy video on fixing Accucraft windows 😉
The gondola is actually what is known as a "low-side" gon. Due to the height of the side, they were difficult to unload by hand, so the the fourth (top) board was removed, leaving a three board side.
A bit late, but my husband and I are just now finding this series. My husband keeps saying he really wants to get back to Durango and Silverton soon. After he heard you say that the Ridgeway Museum is hoping to get a steamer soon, he said "maybe we should wait another little bit..." :D
Hi! No such thing as late. When you find the video, that's your time to watch. So thank you for doing so. Yes, they haven't given much away about the steam engine at Ridgway, just "We're building a steam engine", and that it should be ready this Summer. So,... we'll see! I'm currently working on my Durango & Silverton video. I'm missing being there. This area I feel is my spiritual home. Thanks again! Simon
@@ThatBIGTRAINGuy That's pretty much what my husband says about that area too. And I don't care so much about trains (though I like the history of them), but I feel the same way about mountains in general.
I do feel at home in this part of the world, it suits my personality and interests. I don't think a move is on the cards though. If I had a lot more money, maybe. But I don't feel like "starting again" kinda thing right now. I have other parts of the world to vista, but I'm sure it won't be too long before I return to this area 🤞😊 Thank you!
Oh on the RGS? I don't actually know who organises that. Volunteers of course, and they have the information boards in places too. I don't know I'm afraid. Yeah, it's a great little museum, and will very much benefit with the addition of their steam engine!

Another great video, and kudos to everyone involved w/ the Ridgway museum - it's an amazing place and has preserved so much. Wish I lived closer... 🙂

What a cool idea for the railroad with the Galloping Geese. Cool video!
Yep! Very innovative.
I'm sure they no idea what icons they'd become.
Fascinating stuff! The Galloping Geese look so cool - never heard of them before
Many railways around the world have had their versions of rail buses, but the Galloping Geese have so much character. I love them 🥰
Good video, nice little museum
It's a great place.

Excellent. A Saturday is best, if possible!
Great Video Tour Simon !! I've had two Goose rides on 2 and 5 !!
Lucky you! Do you remember if it was Larry driving?
I was really hoping to get a ride, but oh well.
Thank you Burnett! Cheers.
Great video as per usual! Very excited for the ridgeway RRM to have the RGS 36. I’ll have to do up there and see it when they get done with it.

Awesome. I have caboose 0577 in 1:20.3. Great video. I even liked the non- RG Plymouth, simply because I like Plymouths. Fabulous.

@@ThatBIGTRAINGuy yes you do! I saw it quite a while ago and commented. I just haven’t gotten around to fixing mine yet. ☺️
You need one of those old tractors for a model for your railroad.
Yeah, I have been looking. They are very rare in the correct size, and then they are expensive.
The gondola is actually what is known as a "low-side" gon. Due to the height of the side, they were difficult to unload by hand, so the the fourth (top) board was removed, leaving a three board side.
I actually didn't notice it was a board short.
