I wish I had taken proper before and after photos, but I've been practicing Dr.Mews lessons on oral posture since January (it's June now) and my face has improved incredibly. I can also now breathe much more clearly through both nostrils and all facial asymmetry has been reduced to being unnoticeable. Really incredible stuff! I can't believe this isn't a huge thing yet. I've never looked better or felt healthier in my life
nick kerinklio I feel you! I saw some lady on some website who did the same thing for two years and she's made a massive improvement! It even corrected the space in her occlusion. I started a couple of weeks ago and I'm been meaning to redo/take proper pictures as well. How often did you keep practicing? Because sometimes I keep forgetting to always keep it up there. I'm going to take proper pictures before I really start to commit to it again.
topangel101 The longer I do it for, the more consistently I do it. At first I had to work hard at just keeping my mouth closed, but now that just comes naturally. Things like swallowing correctly and proper tongue posture were the hardest for me to achieve, but once I've gotten used to all that I hardly have to think about it anymore. My face is just improving on its own now. Things like chewing hard gum helped with strengthening my jaw to keep my mouth closed. Things like repeatedly swallowing small amounts of water helped me practice swallowing correctly

@@Bonbon-C thanks for the help there. I have a 2 questions: Why the fuck do i drool from the side of my lips??? Why do my cheeks turn chubbier? I dont have bad facial features. I have a good jawline and my face structure is triangular. My body fat is pretty low too since I'm skinny, so my face is relatively flat, I have a tiny chubby cheeks rn but that's because I haven't drank enough water this past two months and my salt intake has been high these past two weeks.
@@eggs2627 I really can't put an answer as why you drool and your cheeks turn chubbier, my cheeks become slimmer and my zygomaticus major is more pronounced when doing this. My jawline is more pronounced as well. I had orthodontic braces twice, one when I was very young and another when I was in my 23, maybe my teeth's position is best suited for this thing, since my teeth is in good alignment to begin with. Best to check with an orthodontist is my advice.
In layman's term: Chewing gum the normal way may improve jawline but it may have some side effects, esp. those who have their tongue between the teeth at rest. It is recommended that you improve the muscle tone of the tongue, the way you would exercise to get muscles. Dr. Mew has come up with an exercise/term called "tongue chewing" where you squeeze and flatten a before big ball of gum onto the palate. You must spread/squeeze the gum as thin and flat as possible on the the roof of your mouth. You must roll the gum into a ball after squeezing it then squeeze it again until it's flat. You must repeat over and over again. If you do this, like Dr. Mew you would have a more expanded palate only after 40 minutes of tongue chewing. If anyone wanna correct or add smth I've missed, feel free to reply to this message! I plan to comment "in layman's term" comments under the Orthotropics videos because not only it would summarize what I've learned from the videos but also help other people who find what the Mew duo's say a bit difficult.
I'm hoping this helps anybody who has struggles learning this exercise through the video alone. 1. To the best of your ability, keep your lips closed together during the entire exercise. Don't clench your teeth during this exercise, lest you injure your tongue or jaw muscles. 2. Use your tongue to apply pressure against the roof of your mouth. Focus on spreading your tongue wide in order to evenly distribute pressure. 3. Also focus on applying this pressure to the smoothest area in the roof of your mouth. 4. While maintaining this equal pressure, you must stroke your tongue along the entire smooth area in the roof of your mouth. 5. If this exercise is overstimulating, you might use chewing gum to soften the friction between your tongue and mouth. I hope this helps!
I can’t begin to express how grateful I am to have stumbled upon this video 5 years ago and decided to implement it every day since. I also cannot begin to express how grateful I am to you for your work and for getting this information out there. My face has been transformed. I was definitely a mouth breather, and when I wasn’t mouth breathing I would keep my teeth apart, and tongue and the bottom of my mouth. I started with a lot of fat under my jaw and hardly any definition, a recessed chin, hardly any cheekbone definition. Just a droopy, very downward sloped and rounded face in general. I could also rarely breathe through my nose. It’s definitely been a process, and it’s taken a lot of breathe right strips and persistence but mewing has given me a sharp jawline, a chin with good projection, and high cheekbones(along with many more changes in my bone structure). These aren’t slight changes, either. I have family living abroad that hadn’t seen me since before I started, and with having no prior knowledge of me having done this they said they wouldn’t have recognized me if I walked past them on the street. I look back at the before photos and videos I took 5 years ago and I don’t recognize myself at all. Thank you again

Thank you so much! I’ve been a mouth breather my whole life because of a deviated septum which has impacted some of my facial features including a shorter upper jaw causing a underbite. I’ve been doing this for 2 months now and have seen a little bit of results but I’ve gotten the hang of it now and will be doing this for the rest of my life! I’m 16 now and will be updating my results at 17.
I was skeptical but now i'm doing this everyday at work. my cheeks and jawline has improved -- strengthened, chiseled more tone and better appearance -- my eyes don't look so droopy even though I feel sleepy as hell
I'm on week 1 of mewing, I didn't seen any significant improvements, yet. But my eyes feel so alive now. Even if I didn't much sleep and I'm sitting on online class, my eyes didn't shut
Been doing this on and off since august 2018. Regardless to whether you gain visible improvements or not it's still the best way to breath. My changes are in muscle growth. My cheeks are starting to hollow as well. Best start at a young age. I started at 17 and I'm now 19
hiii, so is it that you move the chewing gum with your tip of tongue on the roof back and forth? or how do you do it i didnt understand its very well.. if u may update me of your experience :)
An animated view of what’s going on in his mouth would be far more effective than having to listen to his microphone pick up all the delicious sounds his mouth makes while chewing.
@@MsMrFlintStone nah when mewing got hype i lost interest in it since a whole army of content creators where jumping on it and providing animations or examples. I'll just say two things : - mewing definitely has worked for me, but i was pretty consistent and took the subject more at heart than most people would, in my close friend group most still treat it as a meme rather than something useful or impactful - there is a link between kegels (contracting the perineum) and mewing. When you contract the perineum it basically creates an upward push for all your internal organs, and when you mew you can feel that slight pressure all the way to your palate. Experiment with it, i'm quite sure it's not just me hallucinating it. From what i understand the best pattern would be to relax the perineum while inhaling and contract it while exhaling, same as you should do while exercising like kifting weigths. Nothing ground breaking but i find it interesting. - last thing : falim gum + any chewing gum you already enjoy = best gum in the universe, perfect to play with and keep awareness on mewing at regular intervals to develop muscle memory
maybe more optimism is in order! i think recognition for his research will be high, simply because he is able to freely share this technique that's named after him through the internet. "Mewing" is well established as a popular enough term amongst those working to improve oral health, sinus health, and facial structure. so, i believe he will be recognized in high regard!
No cuz the tongue will be pressing on it keeping it in place I get what you mean but you gotta get that mind/muscle control Well unless you inhale the fuck outta the room suddenly then you might choke
@@benaw4603 basically we're supposed to try to flatten the gum against the roof of our mouths using the back 3rd of the tongue. I'm just not sure how we're supposed to do that without swallowing it or how to roll it into a ball without using our face muscles! 🙄☹
I have been doing this instinctively my whole life when I eat and I do have a very strong facial bone structure and straight teeth which are often commented on. I looked this up because my friend has an extremely weak jawline + crowded teeth which he said was from breathing out of his mouth and I didn't really believe that these habits could cause a change in facial appearance but after watching your videos I am amazed and fascinated! I badly need to work on my back posture though!!!
I have no words to say thank you. I started this in March this year, with this month been more heavily focused, and I can tell that not only my jaw has become more prominent, but my breathing, I love running, and now I feel I'm breathing well even there.
Thanks Mike Mew. I finally look good with a shaved head. 2 years after For anyone that wants to know, in my case, my jawline didn't grow too much my temples are more defined and my cheekbones are slightly more prominent. Facial forward growth has improved slightly as well.
Thank you so much 😍 I've been doing mewing for a year now and I got some comments about my neck looking nice (I have/had fat short neck 😂), I caught my sister staring at my jaw so many times and I'm happy
I find it easier to push the back part of your tongue whenever I finished training my backside neck muscle. Like what mike tyson did when he trained his neck. I'm pretty sure when you have stronger back neck muscle, you can push your tongue harder to the roof of your mouth. Hope it helps.
Very interesting stuff. I just found this by accident. I'm a weight lifter and was taught that proper posture for the head while lifting weights is created by having the tongue up pressed against the roof of the mouth. Unfortunately I tend to press only the tip of the tongue against the palette, which is wrong. I see that Dr. Mew has a very strong face. Although possibly that visual is created because his overall level of body fat is very low. I need to watch more videos here and of course subscribe. This is very very interesting stuff... Thank you.
I did ignore this instruction. I do brace when lifting I just have never done this and I regret. I never thought I would come across something like this by accident. It's quite insane that it was really up to chance whether or not I'm going to come across his material. Unfucking believable.
I live in purley in woodcote valley road. I just realised I’ve been living s 3 min walk from you and probably been going to your dentist all my life. What a coincidence I would find you here mr mew.
I have been practicing this for approximately one year and I have noticed a much easier breathing, sort of "opening" of the airways. Even when going to the gym and even when my nose was "stuck" because of the flu. Within 10 minutes of insisting on keeping my mouth shut and purposely breathing only through my nose and with the tongue on the roof of the mouth the airways suddenly opened, my mood got lightened sort of peaceful and reassured ... very interesting. I have also noticed an improvement in the overall shape of my face. There is an improvement in the way the under chin area looks as well, more defined and more definition in the jaw. When the tongue muscles got strong enough to keep my tongue at all times on the roof of the palate a slight lift in the cheeks started to become noticeable. I have done a lot of facial exercises as well as I had Bells's Palsy and I needed to lift my left eyebrow and the left part of my face . It works.
This exercise (spreading the gum on the palate) is exactly what I do when I'm chewing a bubble gum and want to make a balloon! Only I didn't know it was actually beneficial for my face. 😁
Thank you so much for this information. I had braces when I was about 12 and I remember the Dentist commenting on my receding chin. I have had issues with swallowing and have been self conscience about my chin for years. I am starting this today and will take photos of progress. Thank you Dr Mew for caring. Xo
I like Dr. Mew and his father and the work they do. I think they’re great and awesome for working outside of the program when it meant being able to have such an impact on people’s health and appearance.
this is very true. I used to have a very nice jaw line because I chew gum every single day through out the day, and once I stopped chewing gum my face change completely. Thank you Dr. Mew
Hey, Dr. Mew! Thanks for the content. Out here saving lives. I've had chiro care all my life, and suffered a terrible neck injury as a child. I'm okay now, but I now understand my allergies were aggravating it, thanks to you. My QUESTION: I wonder if you've done any research into the impact of pillows on teeth/oral posture? If you did, what did you find? would you ever consider teaming up with a chiropractor on your research?
ive been watching you for about 2-3 months now and i have to say i have seen some very good improvements with my facial structure because i chewed alot (mostly chewing gum). as you said if you chew alot the masseter muscle would help push the mandible upwards and make your face grow forwards. and iam 18 years old. which is a clear proof that it can be just as effective for adults. and i also have my tongue on my palate while chewing and swallowing which reduces the size of my buccinators.
Is this only of you want a bigger jaw? Because I don't want a bigger had but I have slight asymmetry on one side. Will it help that without actually getting big?
As we draw closer to the apocalypse. I just want to ask you If you were to die today, are you 100% sure you're gonna go to heaven? You see, God is a holy God that is why he wont allow a single sin into heaven. He has to punish sin with a burning hell for eternity. But that doesn't have to be that way in your case. He came here as Jesus. He died for your sins so you can have the free gift of salvation from God. All you have to do is put your trust on what Jesus Christ did on that cross. Nothing else will save you but Jesus. Water baptism wont save you. Going to church, reading your bible. Nothing else will but only the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. May God bless your soul...
I tried tongue chewing after this video and what he says at 3:50 is absolutely true. You can feel how your bite changes. For everyone who has problems mewing because of the tongue touching the molars this is an incredible exercise. Of course mewing is necessary to keep the palate expanded
Always try to involve the whole body, like the neck for example, in accomplishing tongue sweep/"bringing-together of teeth, and lips", so that nothing gets "locked in" .. Invariably the bodily adjustments are classic "healthy" (eg a lifting of the head that straightens out the back of the neck, an opening of the chest, and bearing down of the feet etc..
Guys, I found out about mewing when I was 12 years old. I've been mewing since 4 years now and I'm so grateful for this!! My face has lost a lot of cheek fat and my jawline is very prominent. I have a v shaped jawline(it used to be wider) will try tongue chewing from today
@@daniellacabezas3851 this is how i learnt it: Smile wide and swallow while smiling. Now your tongue rests on your your palate. Hold that position. Even i am unable to position my tongue on the entire palate because i can't breathe well so hold it in such a position that lets you breathe comfortably
This is a fantastic workout for my tongue! I've been having problems with getting the back of my tongue on the roof of my mouth when trying to mew, it doesn't seem like I'm able to activate the muscle, so this is going to help a ton!
Did it help? Also I'm confused about something. If you can then please shed some light. I couldn't properly understand that whether I'm supposed to flatten out the chewing gum from the front of the roof of the mouth to the back of the roof of mouth by using the front portion of my tongue (which I can do) or using the back of my tongue (which I don't even know how to do).

This is so fundamentally important and everybody considers mewing as tongue posture, rather than the full "oral posture and function", missing the key features
Wow that is crazy because i have been doing this with my gum my while life (as sort of a habit) i would sort of suck it up on the roof of my mouth squeeze it
It's only been about... 4 or 5 days but I already notice a huge difference. My face doesn't even look the same. But I'm crazy I'm "mewing" for 16-18 hours a day full force with my cheeks sucked in, head tilted in the double chin, and back of my tongue forcing my skull to go up/forward. I'm like Dr. Mike in that I try to find new ways to do things, and I'm already finding a faster way to achieve this result, but you're 100% right. It also is helping my ETD and Tinnitus. I'm very grateful to you Dr. Mike.
The best thing about this to me, is that people often idolize celebrities for their looks but these practices and posture can help anyone in normal circumstances look great. May the people look beautiful the way it was intended
For those who are still struggling. You want your tongue to fit the shape of upper cavity of your mouth. Raise your head to look up (not fully, like watching the top of a staircase from the bottom) and touch the top of your mouth, just behind the start of teeth with the tip of your tongue. Then as you bring your head to normal position, try to keep tip of tongue where it is by bending your tongue in middle. You should feel your head being supported by the tongue if you get it right. For those struggling with the diagram, you want your tongue to form number seven but with it touching the top of your mouth. If you're new, you might be able to get just the tip of your tongue but with some practice you'll get it. Remember you're looking for the *feeling* of your head being supported by the tongue. Trying it right after the McKenzie neck stretch will help. Your spine and neck will naturally be in correct position when you get this right, so straighten up! Once you get the tongue right, bring the lower jaw forward and hold as long as you can. Keep doing till one day it becomes your natural posture or you start looking like Jude Law.

@@MsMrFlintStone nah when mewing got hype i lost interest in it since a whole army of content creators where jumping on it and providing animations or examples. I'll just say two things :
- mewing definitely has worked for me, but i was pretty consistent and took the subject more at heart than most people would, in my close friend group most still treat it as a meme rather than something useful or impactful
- there is a link between kegels (contracting the perineum) and mewing.
His research will never get notice because big money orthodontics and dentistry will go out of business.. keep going Dr. Mew!
#Mewthology
maybe more optimism is in order! i think recognition for his research will be high, simply because he is able to freely share this technique that's named after him through the internet. "Mewing" is well established as a popular enough term amongst those working to improve oral health, sinus health, and facial structure. so, i believe he will be recognized in high regard!

For anyone that wants to know, in my case, my jawline didn't grow too much my temples are more defined and my cheekbones are slightly more prominent. Facial forward growth has improved slightly as well.
What about now
Dr Mike Mew is so interesting. Love it.
I go to the gym to work on my back posture. Dr. Mew goes to the dinner table to work on his tounge posture. Theres levels to this game.

Unfucking believable.
you might have a tongue tie where you can't put the back in the roof so you need the frenulum released

2:30 When cocaine addiction kicks in
I have been practicing this for approximately one year and I have noticed a much easier breathing, sort of "opening" of the airways. It works.
What age are you if you don’t mind me asking? They say after 25 you can’t correct a receding jawline
I’m suffering from a lack of oxygen due to excessive intake of ASMR from this guy. What a legend!

Xo

Hey, Dr.

2:30 Jesus when he was resurrected

I know some people find it bit confusing but I’m already a mewing STAR!!!

@@lilxrarry you can accomplish this by:

3:33 changing upper palate space 40m
4:33
Who informed you that the correct tongue posture is to permit the tongue to carry the head
