Alot of people in the comments are asking: "Won't sleeping on my side create asymmetry?" Sleeping on your back was not the natural sleeping position of our ancestors. Lying flat on one's back on the uneven, hard surfaces of a cave or forest floor would have likely led to significant back pain. Anyone who has gone camping will be aware of this. Also, when you sleep on your back, it is more difficult to follow the tropic premise because gravity causes the lower jaw to drop, and the tongue to fall back into the throat. This is supported by the fact that more people snore when sleeping on their back than on their side, causing them to mouth breath. If you sleep on your side, you can keep your jaw from dropping by using a pillow for support, and suction-based mewing should be enough to keep breathing through the nose.
Very interesting, as so many say that sleeping on the back is the "correct" way to sleep. I trained myself to be a back sleeper because I thought it was more beneficial. Going to switch it up and see how I feel. I also just started mouth taping 6 days ago, so I will see how the new sleeping posture adds in. I'll update in maybe 2-3 days. (I actually will)
This is reassuring to say the least as someone who really struggles to sleep on their back. Thank u for the video I will practice these tips and looking forward to sleeping on my side tonight!

Jivha Bandha (Tongue Lock) Book Reference: Hatha Yoga Pradipika, Chapter 3 (Bandha and Mudra), Verse 4-5. and Its Similarities with Mewing. 1. Tongue Placement: Like mewing, Jivha Bandha involves pressing the tongue against the roof of the mouth. In both practices, this tongue posture is crucial for directing energy flow and maintaining facial structure. 2. Facial Structure and Muscle Tone: Jivha Bandha, similar to mewing, helps in improving facial muscle tone. This promotes a well-defined jawline and corrects oral posture, which is essential for overall facial symmetry. 3. Respiratory Benefits: Both techniques emphasize proper nasal breathing. Jivha Bandha, like mewing, encourages nasal breathing by positioning the tongue correctly, which helps clear airways and improve respiratory health. 4. Neurological and Physiological Effects: Just as mewing stimulates proper neural and muscular function through tongue posture, Jivha Bandha activates the vagus nerve, aiding in relaxation and stress reduction, contributing to balanced autonomic function. 5. Energy Flow Regulation: Jivha Bandha regulates prana (vital energy) through tongue posture, similar to how mewing promotes energy balance by optimizing oral posture and breathing patterns. In summary, Jivha Bandha and mewing share significant similarities in tongue placement, facial structure benefits, and their impact on respiratory and neurological health. Both practices emphasize the importance of correct oral posture for overall well-being.
Thankyou so much somehow I’ve been mewing for 4 months and seems as though the 2 front teeth in my mouth straightened out and I noticed I’ve been calmer and my cheeks slimmed
Hello mike mew unfortunately you are wrong about sleep because sleeping on the left side puts pressure on our heart and causes serious heart problems but of course we turn over involuntarily at night and even our brain does this involuntarily but the sleep time on the left side is always short. A Turkish proverb says don't blink when trying to make eyebrows.
Maybe that's why people keep getting my age wrong and think I'm 10 yrs younger than I really am: I've been sleeping this way my whole life. And I'm a natural nose breather. 🤔 🤡 Until it became worse and worse over the years, which I noticed more and more often when I woke up with a dry mouth. Then I had a surgery to remove my nasal adenoids, et voilà, back in business. I had no idea how much my nose was already clogged. Since then, I can breathe again as if I had a virgin nose. 💪🏼🙏🏼 Highly recommended to see an ENT specialist and have your sinuses checked when you feel your nasal breathing is restricted or your partner complains about your snoring or other signs that indicate an obstructed airway where no obstruction is supposed to be. At all! Also your bronchial system and even your lungs will thank you for finally getting warm and above all: moist and filtered air again, instead of cold, dry unfiltered air all night (that's 6 to 8 hours a day, so a quarter or third of your entire life, think about it!). I couldn't sleep any other way because I absolutely loathe breathing through my mouth. So, nasal breathing and keeping your mouth shut while you sleep, and sleeping on your side so your tongue can't slip back when you're paralysed, are key (yes, you are when you're asleep, which means your muscles are completely relaxed, as if you're under anaesthetic, and sleep breathing kicks in, which is different to breathing when you're awake, otherwise your body would never be able to properly recover, which you could notice the next day).

I'd like to ask. I have a permanent metal brace on the back of my lower front teeth (metal wire retainer glued to the back of the teeth). Will this prevent my palate from widening?
Do you have any extractions on the lower jaw? Were your lower incisors previously very crowded? If your lower front incisors are arranged in too much of a curve as a result of a narrow pallate and extractions, I could see this as having some sort of effect. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Those permanent retainers still allow the teeth to move around overall, as contrary to essix retainers.
