The main aim of the platform is to precipitate debate on why teeth are crooked. Most people are not aware that (in most cases) the dental profession has little or no idea why the teeth are crooked, or for that matter why children need major surgery. Clearly there are genetic issues, however the science is clear, the weight of quality research papers, in respected peer reviewed journals, show that our modern lifestyle is a more important factor and most importantly we can do something about this.
This is especially important as sleep apnoea, TMD, forward head posture and a most otolaryngology problems are implicated as other symptoms of the same underlying problem.

Everytime i saw Mike Mew my mouth automatically doing mewing. So i use his photo as my phone wallpaper. #NoGay.
this should be the top comment, honestly pure FUCKINg genius
Lol 😂😂
yep i always straighten out when I see Mike Mew. He says to use a 'talisman' to remind onseself of good oral and body posture. his face is a talisman for that.
I do that aswell.
I got his face tattood on my forearm.
ok obviously not. this was a joke
Wow. What a coincidence I was planning on going to sleep tonight.
LOL
😂😂😂 laughing with sealed lips 🤣 joking I can't
Lol😂😂

That's insane because so was I!
So I always had a (weird) fear of being kidnapped because if they duct taped my mouth, I couldn't breathe and would die. I have been a lifelong mouth-breather. I tried the tape method for sleeping and surprised myself by not dying and now I know that I CAN survive by breathing just through my nose. Also, after a couple of months, I subconsciously now keep my lips sealed during the day, and my tongue against the roof. I have not noticed the beautification part, but then again, I am 61. Amazing info! I am happy to have found a technique that seems to have changed the actual mechanics of my facial bone structure. Thank you Dr. Mike.
What if its stuffed? Mine was sruffed all the time so im dead?
surprised yourself by not dying HAHA

The fact that you are giving this valuable information for free, is outstanding. Mewing has changed the way i thought about myself, I’ve been seeing great progress in only a few months and I feel like a godly model. Thanks for everything
HottestBurrito109 hope you don't mind my asking, how old are you?
This man is an absolute genius. Hopefully one day I can contribute to the scientific community half as much as he has. A true inspiration.
Thank you so much for your work! You geeeniiusss! I'm 43 and just by being aware of where my tongue is and keeping it in the right place, and lips closed of course, I have achieved great results in just a month or so.. I have always had an atypical deglutition, pushing my teeth forward ( i have an overbite)..plus sleeping with my mouth open. Now I have already gained the habit and I wake up with lips closed and tongue in place. Also my wrinkles on the top of my mouth and nasolabial folds are softer, my lips fuller, my jaw stronger and more forward. I write this to encourage also older people to believe in the great results that they can achieve with mewing. I can't wait to see my face a year from now. Thank you Thank you Thank you. This is an issue I had all my life and no one ever managed to either fix it or even give me directions to improve it. Cheers!! All the best
Comments like this worry me because at 43 progress is VERY slow. Most facial changes happen before 16. The consensus that most change has to happen before 25. The arguement after puberty that any (SMALL) changes would take 5 to 10 years. When people leave comments like this it makes me worry people are using this for purposes beyond its limits. At a certain point it can't change everything.
@@wackity.7879 actually no it does work for everyone I started at 26 and at 28 it's been night and day
@@wackity.7879 Relaxed muscles vs stiff muscles with less fat can change a face dramatically so some faces can change within a month, some faces won’t
Actually where should tounge should be placed?
I’ve slept with my mouth open snoring my whole life. I’m 33, I started mouth taping a few months ago to force myself to nose breath. Ever since it has completely changed my sleep. I go into deep sleeps now and wake up feeling more rested then ever in my life. I’m just annoyed that mouth breathing was naturally normal my whole life. I definitely have poor jawline development and overall facial structure. I’ve started mewing recently as well. I realize structural change at an older age is much more difficult but damnt I’m gonna try.
You still mewing? Even if you are, 1 year is nothing compared to decades of Mouthbreathing
It's hard when your nose is blocked...
Yes this makes it difficult for me. One side or if not both of my nostrils are always blocked
stop eating dairy and if your nose is blocked eat those really spicy 2 minute noodles, they will make your nose run
@@dawnparker1126 ha, thanks for the suggestions. I have unknown allergies and I'm south Asian - spicy food is in my diet. For me, steaming really gets my nose running I.e. shower..
Had this problem too at the start. A big part of it is that you don't breathe through the nose. The more you breathe through the nose, it will become much, much easier
@Dima Reus that's the one. Thanks for that!
At least I'm doing something right in life. lol I don't often sleep with my mouth open but when it does happen it causes me to wake up. Thank you as always.
Please make a video about overbites and underbites
Y not
He still hasn’t made a video about this :(
I have an identical twin sister who has less symptoms of craniofacial distrophy. I drew and painted a lot growing up (still do) which probably meant I was looking down at paper a lot more than my twin. My teeth were more crooked and I have dimples (which I believe is due to the muscles being shorter than the bones which had probably lengthened) but my sister has better teeth and barely there dimples. I then had braces (RIP) and my twin did not. I have a gummy smile which I hate and my sister does not. I would love a consultation with you mike, I have completed the form on your website and recognise you’re very busy. Two identical twin girls (21 years old) who have different severities of craniofacial distrophy would be an interesting case study. Thanks for everything.
From ur channel , i think u have a good jaw
Doc Mike, you and your father have blessed many people, you have my thanks!!!!!
thank you, excellent video. personally i have used surgical tape to keep my lips closed during the night, in conjunction with stretching my mentalis muscle to improve the issue of lower lip sticking out/rolling forward. you can best stretch by manuall pushing your lower lip into your mouth over your tongue (placed in front of your lower teeth). by lengthening that muscle it is easier to fall into the correct lip posture. it is uncomfortable and harder to sleep in the beginning. then, after a few weeks you will start to keep lips together more without the tape. the "reminder" techniques in this video would be extremely helpful in making the correction. other postural exercises that have also helped me in this way are to avoid sucking on straws or whistling, which are habits that hurt the form of your tongue, cheek and lip muscles
Oh! Thanks for the reminder about the straws. I had forgotten.
hey man ive got a Q for u , i didnt understand the actuall idea in this video /// i have a lower lip sticking out also . so does mike mew say in this video that stretching your lower lip like hes preseting will solve that problem over time>>>? does it work for u?
@@bloxZ yes, over the course of some years all of the above has greatly improved my lips and cheek posture. tape over lips while sleeping is excellent, i almost never breathe through my mouth when sleeping anymore. i think it is also important to learn to sleep on your back with a minimal pillow, this seems to align airways better for natural nasal breathing and keeps your neck and spine in a better position too. i also have less shoulder pain since i quit side sleeping.
as for lower lip in particular, the mentalis muscle being tight between your lower lip and chin is the great hurdle to correction. use your tongue to push out between your lower lip and chin, while using your hand to hold your lip back. you will feel the intense stretch in that small muscle. this stretch alone will hugely accelerate lip posture correction, but you must also take the behavioral component into account, and learn to keep mouth closed
@@mensb1936 thx!
I've been taping my lips together at night for a few weeks now. I definitely have a deeper sleep this way, although I'm still surprised every morning when I wake up with a taped up mouth!!

Watching these videos, there is much emphasis on causes of 'long faces' with restricted forward growth. In my own case I believe that a number of contributing factors: ie mouth breathing, pets in and passive smoking in childhood home, extractions of ×4 molars before puberty (and x4 wisdom teeth aged 18) have resulted in a recessed maxilla, underdeveloped mandible, small upper palate v-shaped bite and the appearance similar to 'short face growth pattern' - I'm an otherwise healthy individuals who has never suffered from 'hypodontia'. I believe that I was genetically dispositioned to have a shorter mid-face, but that that I received badly formulated practice from a UK registered orthodontist in the mid-eighties.
I love that he mentions hypnosis too! Synchronicity is so real, I just downloaded a PDF book on self-hypnosis..
when does he mention hypnosis ?? please give mi minutes

1:33 her jaw is just more forward in the after photo. You can see the hinge or back of the jaw line move forward
Why you shouldn't sleep on you back? I always hear it's the ideal sleeping position.
I agree, sleeping on your back without pillow makes your whole spine straight and it's the only way to mew over night. If you sleep on your side or stomach your cheeks are PRESSING AGAINST THE PILLOW which WILL make your teeth crooked over time for sure, also you literally can't mew with proper tounge posture with pillow pressing your face/cheeks so I agree with you guys, I have no idea where did dr. Mew get this from, this is clearly wrong, sleeping on your back straight with no pillow nakes mewing easier at night and it's the only healthy way to prevent crooked teeth, I believe he's wrong about that, he should adress this.
Many can’t sleep on their back because it causes the tongue and lower jaw to more easily fall into their airway.
He was previously talking about sleep apnea, so I believe the message was directed to people with the particular problem. Generally, I think it is easier to hold the lips sealed when sleeping on the side. Howevee I agree with you that sleeping on the back is quite likely the ideal position for the spine and also maybe mewing in the long run.
Mike does not have enough knowledge on this...he is a dentist, not a chiropractor, you should be sleeping on your back
If you are sleeping on your back without pillow. Then your head might fall back. A very thin pillow will help you head is not rotated backwards
wow. i knew that the maxilla moves up & forwards with mewing but i still had some unanswered questions. that transformation really helped me understand the skeletal change that happens after mewing for a long period. you can clearly tell that the maxilla moves forwards from the change in her nose. you can also see the mandible following along, swinging up. the length of the mandible doesn't seem to have changed much but because it is swung higher than before the chin protrudes and makes the side profile look like a different person.
My lips get chapped when I keep them sealed. I have pretty big lips. Should I pout them a little to keep them moist?

What’s also cruel is when you mouth breathe , you also lose water so you get more dehydrated even if you drink enough water during the day. This can cause acne and other issues
Thank you Mike and John Mew!!
I remember to hold my lip together all day ... But my tongue looses its grip and slowly comes down Followed by the lips and jaw when I start to fall asleep!!! I don't think a tape is helpful when tongue and jaw falls as well because anyways the weight pulls my lower face down.. I hope it made sense!
With the lips taped shut, the teeth don't separate as much as they could without the tape.
My lips are together I think almost all the time LOL
Pyromancer yea me too. I finally did something correct
Yeah same. And I thought I hadn't acomplished anything in my life 😂
Me too... Why am I still ugly?
This is exactly what I needed more specifically the not using chin muscles. I have a very upward swing chin in comparison to the bone.
i always try to keep my lips sealed, but my nose is always congested, so my only other option in breathing through the mouth.
Allergy medicine daily
I just can’t imagine how people sleep with their lips shut I find it SO hard to breath this way unaided.I thought it was the norm.
Also Someone needs to invent a mattress that stops you sleeping on your stomach and straps you in or something. Its really bad for breathing and posture..
1. Do the tennis ball trick he suggested, but on your stomach.
2. Body pillows on one or both sides. Also, if you are wrapped around one, you won't be on your stomach.
There is a mattress like you described on the market ! I have forgotten the name but it does exist.
you can just sleep on the floor. it will hurt sleeping on the stomach there

My problem is that while I am sleeping I got my lips closed but my tongue is not up on the palate. Thats always how I wake up; my mouth, lips closed but my tongue relaxed and down :( So every morning I look ugly and by the evening my face is good looking again. You sir are doing God’s work
Imagine taking up the habit of sealing your lips with tape and fucking suffocate bc your nose is stuffy one night and your airways are obstructed...
My lips have always been sealed; same with nose breathing and a good face structure with a jawline - thanks to my genetics and I guess my parents. But I still want my cheekbones to appear as the back of my tongue Hadn’t been up only the middle and tip did
Looking good Dr. Mew! :)
Appreciate this info but also want to note that sleeping on your side creates wrinkles. If you can keep your lips sealed while laying on your back, that would be best.
Incredible work
Nice video, thanks.
I wish I knew all this when I was 15. I’m 25 now and I’ve probably got a shit mouthbreathing side profile for life
so its good that I found this when im 12?
Bro I started mewing at 26, im 31 now. I still have somewhat a profile but it improved massively and I look so much better from the front. If you want to see the changes I can drop box you
Im 15 and I feel like I'm too old for this stuff to work💀 so that's kinda funny. It can still work for you, it just might take longer yk.

I still don't know where exactly the tongue is supposed to go. I need to see it visually and from a profile view, not aerial. And, everytime I put me tongue to the roof of my mouth and shut my mouth, my teeth grip or grind. There's so much tension, it's painful.
I can only think of one good reason to have ones mouth open while sleeping, when ones nose is too stuffed for breathing.
It will unblock your nose I was going to have to have surgery to unblock my sinus after 5 days of mewing and swallowing properly it unblocked. I also has tmj and the sharp pain has left after 5DAYS
Can you please elaborate on why should we not sleep on our back?
I re-always watch Mr. Mew's video to actually comprehend what he's talking about
i wear a splint and tape my mouth shut at night, has improved my tongue posture and and breathing and rest at night
5:45 that jaw 😍
Since my childhood I learned to seal my lips by creating a simple air depression in my mouth using my tong (removing air behing the lips by retracting the tip of the tong, which incidentally trigger meewing). No effort to produce from face's muscles.
Also by night, I just have the cheets covering(/wrapped around) the lower part of my face, under the noze, pressed against my lips like a sleeping ninjaaaa (sleeping on the side).
@@interestingthings8598 , I thought that by having your tongue on the roof of your mouth WAS mewing?
@@interestingthings8598 Nope you remove air that is left behing the lips by retractig your tong, wich can't be done without pushing the tong to the roof of your mouth. You can then push toward the palate if you wish, but tong is in place and lips sealed by depression created by the procedure.(So yeah instead of "trigger mewing" I should have say, everything is in place for mewing... well).
Please talk more about mewing while wearing braces!
6:35 Looks like from that PS2 game where this Alien tries to escape this place, but he has that on his mouth. (A dark green coloured alien).
I kind of slept like this all through my depression years.... And one side of my jaw is now in bad shape.... Please help

duh?
My nose really pees me off, one nasal doesn't seem to be working, and that one gives me a running nose, can get a TINY bit of air in if I really try my best, and my other nasal does the work, and then it switches. (A.K.A. The nasal cycle). Also, I seem to breath more loudly, which annoys other students, myself, and my family. People may think I'm angry, but no, I am not. Been like that for years. Tbh, can't wait for a cure. Hopefully.
I think running or jogging solves the posture issue which in turn influences breathing and facial posture
Thank you

I have a question for Dr. Mike Mew and his response would be much appreciated. I was a mouth breather my whole life, or better said, I was breathing through my mouth since I was an infant. I wasn't breastfed. Now I'm starting to breathe through my nose and keep my lips sealed. I also started to mew harder, on a daily basis. Will this kind of approach (lips sealed, nose breathing, and mewing) fix my facial developmental problems? I'm 28 years old but very dedicated. Will my face and teeth align properly after a few years of hard mewing? Thanks.
HEELP i have a very important question
Can i Mew with braces on? Does braces stop the process? Will i have to stop using retainers in the future if want to Mew??? Please someone help me
Victoria Romero I think it would help you get rid of the braces quicker and possibly, if you keep the good habit, you might not even need a retainer to maintain your teeth aligned.
Here's the deal sir - I've been applying my tongue to the roof of my mouth - keeping my lips sealed - and working my jaw often through the day. But as for my teeth touching... no, doesn't happen; Can't happen. I Cannot rest my teeth together upper/lower. I can do Everything else - except that. I'm 100% certain - I have an overbite.
I believe the whole process (tongue pressing, and lips) is going to help me - but.. I don't know what to do about the overbite.
In the picture of me there that you see - I am, in fact, dropping my jaw and keeping my lips together. (This was Long before I heard about Orthotropics).
Sleep with or without pillow? Sleeping on a hard surface without pillow is better right? Thank you
When I suction my tongue to the roof of my mouth I've noticed it doesn't look similar to the majority of people who video/photo with their mouth when doing it. I think my tongue touches the roof of the mouth but its like the whole tongue covers the depth of the mouth. I'm kind of certain it is correctly in place although because I can block off my airway etc. I've noticed when other people suction their tongue, only the frenlum is the only part I can see covering the depth of the mouth with the rest of the tongue on the roof.
Is it to do with a narrow palate? Also when I do try to suction my tongue, the tip of the tongue doesn't touch the incisive papilla. Instead it touches the anterior part of the roof of the mouth.
Thanks if anyone can help me out

You are saying that this excercise just
Will help you maintenly close your lips together ?
Like, stretching the mentalis muscle will reshape your lips in one way or another.?
It has nothing to do with lip shape

I tried taping my lips and it became very painful for my front upper teeth because the upper lip was pressing against the teeth inwards. It was actually so painful that i got sweaty and felt cold. Maybe the tape was too tight, but the purpose of this message is is that be careful with lip taping. Instead i would just go brute force and force myself to keep my lips closed.
Do what he said, and don't use the full taping, but steri-strips or other light taping methods. Re-watch the video section on the methods.
Yo he killed me at 11.10 with the faces
Funny. I ended up sleeping with closed mouth, tongue sealing the roof of my mouth, after trying to adapt to using a sleep apnea machine with a nose mask. With the nose mask, you need to keep your tongue seal. I stopped using the cpap machine, but the tongue position remained. I've been a bit scared that I created a new problem, but perhaps I lucked into the solution.
thx

I have a VERY high upper lip. I've never been able to naturally fully close my lips even during the day without pushing my bottom lip up unnaturally. Trying to close my lips causea vertical lip lines:-(
Do you have "golfball chin" as a result? I do. And I found a cosmetologist in my city who did dysport (botox) injection to my mentalis muscle. To great success. It was super hard for me to keep my mouth closed initially. But then the other muscles learned how to do it.
I got Botox and lip enhancement for this it helps keep lips closed
It only works when ur not tired
How can the tape help, if someones tongue is not suctioning? You can have the lips together but the tonge and jaw are not in proper posture, correct?
ya not wrong, tape can be helpful in some cases. it cant replace proper oral functions like proper tongue placment and lip competence
What is the purpose of NOT sleeping on our back?

I find it hard to breath through my nose when I lie on my belly as my nose gets stuffier which is my default sleep position... Can you give me any tips?
You just have to change sleep position. Back is the best for breathing, just takes a bit to get used to but yoy can train yourself.
I salute you Sir. Thank you so much for all that you do. Question-I understand that lips are to be naturally shut at night-but what about jaw and teeth position at night. On waking I always find my upper and lower jaw ever so slightly and lightly ajar i.e the bottom of the top front teeth around 3 milimetres from being totally shut=in full contact with lower teeth. Is this ok with the mouth closed while asleep? Or should (ideally) the teeth be totally shut/touching as well (obviously without tension or conscious effort)-well obviously as asleep. Thank you. Also what is your quick opinion on invisalign? Another Salute, Sir! Yes Sir. I was eating while watching this-with good posture and tucked my chin in on swallowing too.
I have a lot of pain in my face every day after a sports accident. Feel like I have no proper placement of my jaw. Can anyone recommend how to get in touch with the right professionals?
Because of mewing, I have discovered that my palate is not equal. The right part is wider than left. Do you think mewing can fix my unequal palate?
Do I have to keep my lips sealed when doing sports? Like running or swimming? It is much more comfortable to exhale with my mouth when I jog or do sports.
Does anyone have any idea on what to do if I have an overjet
I'm about to sleep and I see this notification
What if you have a cross bite ?
