"Guitar was like the skateboard of instruments". - Tosin Abasi.
I understand the laughing, when you are near someone, who is so talented, and plays so beautifully, it does not only surprise your brain. But there is simply no physical reaction to make, other than laughing. Those moments, when that happens to you, it is a god sent gift. It is amazing!!!
Imagine seeing Tosin play right in front of you without ever having heard of him
That would be one hell of a mindfuck. Their debut was mind blowing as is, and that opener on limitless (infinite regression) was using a bass technique on guitar in a context I’ve never heard before. Easily the most mind blowing guitarist to stumble into.
I would need a wood chipper to throw my guitar through.
The interviewer did not do his research ... What kind of guitar is that? ... It's my signature model ...
I did. Saw him live in a small venue right after the first aal album came out, having no clue who he was. "Blown away" doesn't come close to describing the impact it had on me.
@@dracheeisen2475 in retrospect, it is interesting how fully developed he and Javier, have brought the double thumbing and flamenco rolls bass technique on the 8 string.
The string gauge is lighter than bass on 8 than an actual bass
Even in Reflux Tosins' first Metalcore band he was good at switching back and fourth between clean and Djent
If we all could do like 2% of what they are doing it would be great
Matt's reactions to witnessing the amazing Tosin's skills in person are great. i seriously wish musicians still had the opportunity to be world famous like in the last 50 or so years. Tosin Abasi would've easily gone down as one the the greats
My exact thought! His reactions are so natural to what he thinks it's fucking awesome. And seriously, Tosin IS.
There has always been these guitarists whom excel in one aspect of guitar playing . They come and go . I don't remember their names and I won't remember Tosin's very soon .
It's really nothing special . Easy formula ; just forsake all taste , tone , feel , soul , etc...and focus on scaling as fast as possible . Add cheese ; tapping , extra strings and remember to turn on several pedals to bury your lack of skill .
Oh yeah ...when in doubt , go for the whammy bar .
Kd Ruckman hate is ugly. your buggin. his music has flavor and heart.just listen longer than a moment. take time man
i reckon he will, hes on his wau, touring with satriani and the like, i think he will be remembered
Stanley Jordan ! Couldn't remember the name of that Cat for the life of me . Had to Google "finger tapping guitar players" . Man! Everyone was saying he was the greatest thing for all of fifteen minutes back in the eighties .
So no , I'm not a hater . Just 'been there , seen it before'. Maybe even saw it done better , but I wasn't swept away in the gimmicky guitar playing then and I'm still not .
So...give it ten years and you'll say "who was that dude who used to play the eight string and do all that wild tapping"?
Tosin shows up all color coordinated and with matching color scheme guitar looking.

Watching Matt Sweeney lose his mind when Tosin is tapping is literally the best thing I’ve ever seen.

Only Guthrie Govan can beat this guy.
@Sebastian Guerrero . Dude, don't bring god to a man fight
Tosin Abasi is one of my favorite guitarists because you can tell he's really nervous and uncomfortable while just talking saying the word "like" and repeating himself but when he plays he just goes to a different world and it makes him seem so human compared to other ego inflated artists on the guitar scene.
love that guy
Besides the fact he is a monster on guitar I agree I like him because he seems like a humble person
man soooooo tru
Also definitely felt uncomfortable with that mook across from him
This guy is an artist. He just pics fragments from the Ultrazone and brings them to this side.
Matt Sweeney seems like an old-school rock type of guy. I honestly first thought that he might be rude or something, like he wouldn't think that Tosin had the same amount of skill as typical rock guys.
Turns out he had a huge amount of respect for the guy.
Matt just fangirled over Tosin, he was so interested and amazed over how Tosin played, especially when he tried it himself. It was awesome seeing how Matt just completely fell apart over the thump stuff, loved this!

Matt looked genuinely impressed whenever Tosin started playing something. The look on his face is hilarious!
That one time where a classic rocker meets the next level...
When I heard the melody he started at 8:36, I realized that I had to surgically graft an Octopus where my left hand used to be. I.....forgot that I needed to be underwater to make it work, so my new Aquaguitar (patent pending) is almost ready!! I think being electrocuted has really helped by playng.
"I'm scared."
"As you should be."
Tosin is a genius.
the most epic moment EVER ...
Tosin: alright so we have this Emaj7 chord
Sweeney: alright I got this, this is so easy I can play anything
Tosin: *starts tapping*
Sweeney: W H A T T H E F U C K
LOL
hahahhaa
"There's something addictive to hashing that out..." You can see that right in his playing. The rhythm and movement of those patterns is hypnotic just watching it, much less actually doing it and creating it on the fly. This dude's got guitar in his DNA. Very cool.
I love how Matt gets so into what Tosin is playing
This really was a fun interview to watch, the interviewer seemed genuinely interested in the guy he was interviewing even though he is obviously not into the genre he's playing. Definitely looking forward to more!
Never knew Trevor from gta5 could play guitar
He looks nothing like Trevor...
From the looks of it,he can't
MightyPsoum For real this dude is terrible...
MforceArts I love how when Tosin plays something, it's just sounds huge and epic, and the other dude plays something it's all dull and flat, like playing through a cheap practice amp.
exactly what i was thinking!
Matt Sweeney is a great interviewer - respectful and hugely engaged. I'd love to hang out with him... He is conveying what we'd all like to be like when meeting such a great player.
He also tries to learn and pick things up from everyone he interviews which is cool to see. His guitar moves series with noisey is great.
“I don’t want you to be anxious about playing anxiety.” It’s funny and it’s true
Matt Sweeney is awesome. He's just into guitar, so he has on guys like Abasi, and you can see the joy in face at the fact that he's in way over his head.
Guy tries to play with him, Tosin plays faster.
jajjaaja it's true
Still can't play yngwie properly!
This dude is very good, conceited, but good, but he talks like he is the first to do this stuff. Aside from extended fret board, EVH was tapping, and Jason Becker sweep picking, in the 80’s. Toss in Jeff Beck and Ali Farka Toure.
@@85mukesh Yea but he is far more harmonically interesting and does a shit ton of stuff that Yngwie couldn't play without learning new technique. No respect because Yngwie is still one of my all time favorites but he will never do anything new in the technique department. I am sure Tosin could sit down in learn the same harmonic min runs verbatim but he doesn't get paid to learn Yngwie note for note. There are teenagers that can play Yngwie note for note.
@@commanderthorkilj.amundsen3426 Totally agree but there almost none that can do everything this man can. With tapping, slapping, shredding, I haven't seen many guitarist use a thumb technique like a bass player besides him. Only Reggie Wooten.
Plot twist: he made this interview just to have free lessons with tosin abasi

Props to this guy, I wouldn't even want to hold a guitar in the same room as Tosin, yet alone sit down next to him and try to play.

The way this guy smiles whenever tosin does something is so relatable. I discovered tosin Abasi music while on psychedelics and listened to the madness of many for the first time while tripping. Then I watched live videos of him and lost my shit in excitement. Been a huge fan since. My favorite.
