I can't really even begin to describe my love for Kurt Vile. The catalog is so vast at this point, i can never tire of his music. It will be with me forever and I can't wait to see what comes next.
Matt is actually a killer interviewer. Such a conversational presence, but each question is great (“when did you start playing with other people?” “Explain Fahey”)
Dude is baked! I love it. Can't think of the name of a famous banjo player. Yeah. "Just get zoned out and play". No judgement. I'm a big fan of bluegrass and being baked. I just had a good time.
i dont think itd be dry. j usually is like that cause interviewers ask him dumbass questions he doesnt care about. when hes interested about the subject (guitars, gear, etc) he does talk
+jazzblaster I read an interview in Guitar World of him and Kevin Shields back in the early 1990s and i found him to be rude and uninteresting . He seemed back then to be just another alternative rock elitist , saying the usual dumb shit like "i dont really like the guitar" and talking about how unhappy he was. I am not really into Dinosaur Jr. or at least what i have heard of them but i respect all music. I was just not impressed with him as a person Just my 2 cents.
So happy to see this! When I saw the first episode of guitar moves I thought it would be sooo sweet to see Matt talk to Kurt Vile! My favourite episode of anything, ever, right here! :D
When I was teen, I loved Page, Blackmore, Schenker. Now, my favorites are guys like Kurt. As we age, we realize that speed and fast fingers do not necessarily mean great. A tasteful, simple finger picked melody is far better than lightning fast runs.
I love how Matt is a good player (as far as I can tell) but is not at all precious about having to ask exactly what someone is doing when he can't quite figure it out.
My whislist: Jonsi, Bo Madsen, Takaaki Mino, Steve Gunn, Matt Mondanile, Courtney Barnett, Kevin Parker, Efrim Menuck, Ruban Neilson, and Jacco Gardner. Thank you!
if you want the real lineage of those guys, especially jansch, look up Davey Graham. He wrote Anji and did a lot of cool stuff with trad english music and DADGAD tuning
I half agree, there's something totally raw and emotive about grahams playing that I think jansch cant duplicate. But you're totally right he definitely expanded on what graham did.
Jordan Quimby I wouldn't call it being underrated as much as forgotten. First song on Aerial Boundaries shows you right away the man's a huge talent. Saw him twice live. Both times COMPLETELY different.
Guthrie Govan would totally do it too. If my 2 cents mattered I would suggest Greg Howe, George Lynch, Steve Vai, Kiko Loureiro, Alex Lifeson, Satriani, Vinnie Moore, Tony MacAlpine, Yngwie Malmsteen, Joe Bonamassa, Allan Holdsworth, Neal Morse, Adrian Belew, etc.
mac demarco is entirely overrated. fine as a window into other kinds of music for a younger generation but he hasn't written anything that will last imo
+XcccVcccX It's social anxiety, I've been watching his live shows for the past few days and I feel like that's why he is so fidgety and not keeping eye contact, i could be wrong but this is exactly how I act when meeting new people and it's can be worse when i'm high but that depends on the high.
Honestly, the host might have been awkward but he seemed genuine. Where as the interviewer seemed annoyed and even more awkward that the host was awkward. 0 out of 10
Lost Sound dude get lost Mac demarco is a talented musician We know you're just here because Mac DeMarco started getting popular and you have to hate everything that's popular because you're a fucking party pooper skate out of here man get out of here
I can't really even begin to describe my love for Kurt Vile.

I don't think I've ever seen Kurt having such a good time. What an artist he is :)
PLAY SKATEBITCH
Matt is actually a killer interviewer. Such a conversational presence, but each question is great (“when did you start playing with other people?” “Explain Fahey”)
"It's definitely like, the coolest thing you could possibly do...in the whole world..." Haha so rad. And he's right, too.
Kurt Vile is such a cool dude. Love this series
Kurtz’s “chord” and reaction at 0:32 is gorgeous.
Dude is baked! I love it. Can't think of the name of a famous banjo player. Yeah. "Just get zoned out and play". No judgement. I'm a big fan of bluegrass and being baked. I just had a good time.
John lennon played banjo
In one of his songs he said he never touched the stuff.. not sure if it’s true
Justin Fielden sometimes when he gets in his zone, you’d think he was stoned...
John Frusciante would be a fantastic guest
John is love, John is life.
+Caleb knott Ah, the up-and-coming John Frusciante. I'm sure he'll make it big some day.
+Caleb knott that would be gnarly
+Caleb knott fuck yeah.
fuck yes, pls Matt make this happen!
Ok, it'd be dry as shit, but I'd love to see a J Mascis episode. I feel he'd have so much to share in a cool way.
Seamus Slattery I agree so hard. Kevin Shields would be cool, but you'd need a good few hours.
Hahahaha
i dont think itd be dry. j usually is like that cause interviewers ask him dumbass questions he doesnt care about. when hes interested about the subject (guitars, gear, etc) he does talk
His Rig Rundown isn't exactly talkative. I think J just say what needs to be said, doesn't waffle or anything.
+jazzblaster I read an interview in Guitar World of him and Kevin Shields back in the early 1990s and i found him to be rude and uninteresting . He seemed back then to be just another alternative rock elitist , saying the usual dumb shit like "i dont really like the guitar" and talking about how unhappy he was. such a dude, my fav guitar player right now
Cheers to Kurt's neighbor for buying him a guitar lol & his laugh is the best!
That beginning of the video with them just screwing around is priceless.
Type of guitar player that inspires you. Love it
love love love kurt even more after this interview
So happy to see this! When I saw the first episode of guitar moves I thought it would be sooo sweet to see Matt talk to Kurt Vile! My favourite episode of anything, ever, right here! :D
Vile laughing at his own jokes are priceless 😂
When I was teen, I loved Page, Blackmore, Schenker. Now, my favorites are guys like Kurt. As we age, we realize that speed and fast fingers do not necessarily mean great. A tasteful, simple finger picked melody is far better than lightning fast runs.
thank you Matt and Kurt!
definitely would love to hang out with kurt, seems like he would just be super down to earth
This video made me learn travis picking man
Thanks Matt..i just got into kurts music...that looked like a fun afternoon...
I love how Matt is a good player (as far as I can tell) but is not at all precious about having to ask exactly what someone is doing when he can't quite figure it out.
Great Session guys
Kurt is an odd fella! I love his music.
Thank you so much Kurt. I'm going to start practicing just using just my thumb. This was inspiring.
My whislist: Jonsi, Bo Madsen, Takaaki Mino, Steve Gunn, Matt Mondanile, Courtney Barnett, Kevin Parker, Efrim Menuck, Ruban Neilson, and Jacco Gardner. Thank you!
Matt Sweeney looks like Trevor Philips in GTA5 :D
He never looks in camera, but that confidence is pure Kurt Vile… 😀
At the end he's just like, "IM OUTTA HERE"
Issac Brock would be very interesting because he has a unique way of playing
is this the new guitar moves?
Kurt is the man. I love his music.
I hope one day I give a guitar to some kid who becomes the next Kurt vile
I need to full listen to a kurt vile album, love his personality he seems a really genuine person
***** I have listened to his latest album i will have to go and listen to those songs you recommended
+Ethan Thompson check out wakin on a pretty daze album real nice tunes especially gold tone and shame chamber
promar I will thank you for the suggestion
He's got a new record, pretty good actually its called Bottle it In
halo is tops, hands down
his laugh omg
You guys should make an episode with José Gonzalez. He's a gifted classical guitarist and a very interesting musician! Would be a great one.
damnit he's got a great head of hair
Mere Wier I think that all the time!!
That dude from guitar moves seems like such like a great person
He does. Plus Chavez was awesome. ua-cam.com/video/N7ad_rcoAZU/v-deo.htmlsi=rEeASPeTlj1o8pSr
Watcthing this high and my anxiety is triggered in a good way.
All you young dudes go check out John Fahey then Leo Kottke then Michael Hedges.
There's lineage for ya.
Bert Jansch?
if you want the real lineage of those guys, especially jansch, look up Davey Graham. He wrote Anji and did a lot of cool stuff with trad english music and DADGAD tuning
Matthew Sunday yeah man, that's right. In my point of view, Jansch took graham's playing and improved it.
Tosin was a high bar to start with
I had the same sensation, they should have invited Guthrie Govan
Guthrie Govan would totally do it too.
If my 2 cents mattered I would suggest Greg Howe, George Lynch, Steve Vai, Kiko Loureiro, Alex Lifeson, Satriani, Vinnie Moore, Tony MacAlpine, Yngwie Malmsteen, Joe Bonamassa, Allan Holdsworth, Neal Morse, Adrian Belew, etc.
Tosin is not a legend? Does AAL not have 3 albums? And a side project?
I guess that's a fair observation.
Kurt's music is so much better than Tosin's though so I think it makes up for his "lack of skill" or so to say.
these are fantastic shows for new guitarists, hope they keep making them
Kurt Vile has a true Philly accent...you can tell when he says "coffee house."
Do an episode with The tallest Man on Earth!
That’s a name that faded into obscurity.
@averagereviews3389 who would’ve thunk
DO JACK WHITE!!!
5:20 When he starts playing Peeping Tomboy :O
Why haven't I seen this? So rad
Crazy how matt just takes his tuning and plays along with it.
sweet jams! I wanna learn the bit at 9:20
This guy is gold he born now and he belongs to 60s men this is awsome!!! Im 30 hehe
Arlen Roth would be a great guest on this!
Great stoner laugh Kurt! Dudes awesome
It's dangerous to have two guys sitting around holding guitars because it's clearly hard to not play.
He sounds like Jorma Kaukonen @5:25 from his album Quah
Yo please do one with Marrissa Paternoster from screaming females
Kurt's laugh is so cute!!
Wooow he’s got a crazy laugh
ROCK ON
do mac demarco
fuck off
Evan Warren ?
mac demarco is entirely overrated. fine as a window into other kinds of music for a younger generation but he hasn't written anything that will last imo
lol
He plays Ernie Ball strings haha
what's happening to Kurt at 00:32 ??
you should have Lauren Larson from Ume on this show! get some ladies in here please.
They're coming! Couldn't agree more :)
+thepeacescarf they had Annie Clark on here
+Traver Hollow That's actually another series, with another magazine, Noisey. But here, they had Theresa Wayman, from Warpaint. She's great!
Coolest man alive
Matt needs to sit down with Aaron Marshall from Intervals.
What is the song at 9:21? Just a jam or a recorded track?
it's the first song on the live set "Kurt Vile live @ Hebbel" .. search for it. still unreleased i believe?
ever figure it out? still wondering...
first song on the youtube video "kurt vile live @ hebbel" still unreleased
“Dead man playing a guitar with dead a hand...”
Is that Kurt's hair on his mic or something?
He's seems like he might be on something.
He's naturally a little off. He's always like that.
+XcccVcccX It's social anxiety, I've been watching his live shows for the past few days and I feel like that's why he is so fidgety and not keeping eye contact, i could be wrong but this is exactly how I act when meeting new people and it's can be worse when i'm high but that depends on the high.
He's got an infection, I know this because I tested him.
Matt Sweeney? now im interested
His hair on the mic is driving me nuts.
uhhh. Pervert.
thank god Guitar Power took over for guitar moves
get guthrie govan on here please?! and julian lage and do another with blake mills. thanks.
Nice audio

I believe so
@@PanasonicTooth :D:D 'n' Juice For All!
Matt looks like trevor from GTA V
Monster fan of Kurt Vile.
Love how this video captures his personality. Really nice guy.
Cool videos. Sub'd!
guy got the funniest laugh
He's adorable.
Honestly, the host might have been awkward but he seemed genuine. Where as the interviewer seemed annoyed and even more awkward that the host was awkward. 0 out of 10
Mac demarco would be a great guest on here.
Agreed
if you like bad music go elsewhere .
Lost Sound dude get lost Mac demarco is a talented musician
We know you're just here because Mac DeMarco started getting popular and you have to hate everything that's popular because you're a fucking party pooper skate out of here man get out of here
Peter Grabiel. Shut up, lady.
Guitar Power NEEDS Reis & Froberg Inc.!!!!!!
Get Dave and/or Ian from Battles. They'd be great guests!
Yes
the dudes face change at 10:02 lmao
But the most important question; where can we hear 'Skate Bitch'?
Greco les paul is awesome!
anyone know the name of the last song?
that laugh 5:58
do nick reinhart
brauermusic that would be insane
brauermusic he did , still waiting to hear back from the clinic
What three chords are those starting at 3:49 ? Sounds real nice. Thanks for the interview/jam session BTW.
This is the intro of the song Peeping Tomboy
Great interview but wish the interviewer wouldn't interrupt so much
Yeah Matt sucks
it is called a conversation...
those sweeny upstrokes (up plucks)
even the way he plays sounds like a banjo
Get Floyd Sweeney on,he is awesome.
Is it just me, or does Kurt remind of Robin Arryn in GoT?
can someone identify what songs he is playing throughout the video? im still exploring kurt's music
u Pasha He plays "Peeping Tomboy" at one point.
might you know what bob dylan song he is imitating
u Pasha They said they were playing off of "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue."
u Pasha Check out Kurt's song "I Know I Got Religion" it sounds a lot like it
thanks bunga
0:27-0:33 \m/
OMG he looks like Robert Plant circa 1973
I'm not good with English. Does anybody knows what tuning is he using in the last song?
DBDG#BD
Smeagol?
It would be awesome to hear Pat O'Brien.
