Ooooh.....I gotta listen to more new Chevelle.
I've heard their older albums....and they're not bad. Sometimes quite good. But nothing that blows me away.
But THIS song? Genuinely excellent to my ears on first listen. The song/riff structures remind me of something off Deftones Koi No Yokan album. And that's a very very good thing.

@BlackSH0veldeath Lol, Ive listened to every Chevelle song. the one thing Ive never understood is their comparison to Tool. I just don't hear it; and no it's not blind favoritism. Undertones of Tool? Sure, many and many of bands have been inspired by Tool.

But if you start from Wonder What’s Next then move on from there, you’ll find an amazing rabbit hole where they stick to their style without drifting too far. One of the coolest things about Chevelle is that they’re all family. It started with Pete, Sam, and Joe - three brothers. Joe was a douche and got booted. Dean, their brother in law joined as bassist. Dean just recently dropped out though, to spend time with family. Pete did the bass on this album, but will tour with the guy from Aeges.

@@seemlesslies Interesting. What makes you say that?

    • @seemlesslies
      @seemlesslies 3 роки тому +4

@@evanmoore2141 because Joe has come out publicly stating what happened. He never wanted to leave the band. He never even knew he was out of the band. They announced it without even telling him in the first place publicly.
In regard to Pete I would say just based on what happened in the first place, and then the fact I was listening to commentary of one of their albums the writer couldn't even be bothered to talk about it showed me what kind of person he was. I'm almost positive it was commentary for La Gargola.
I love Chevelle, but I do not think Pete is a good dude.
Honestly, most amazing musicians are total pieces of shit in some form or another. They generally have insanely huge egos (you have to, to be famous honestly and to be a front runner). I love a band called Dead Poetic, but Brandon Rike is a POS he openly admits it in the Tooth and Nail Podcast. My brother and I were into Project 86 Andrew Swab seemed like a good dude till he ran the band into the ground.
Jared Leto, Bret McCracken, Jonny Craig, Brendon Urie, and Ronnie Radke. I have mad respect musically for all these dudes, but all of them have seriously problems. Leto started a cult, Bret is a known drug addict and abuser and just an all around bad person, Jonny is addicted to heroin and embolizes money from his bands, Brendon just seems to be obsessed with being famous ( I don't actually know that much about him honestly), and God where the fuck do I even start with Ronnie......
Ronnie is likely one of the best composers and musicians of our time, but that dude has some serious character flaws. At least he is open about them, and actively trying to become a better person for sure.
My favorite book is written by a known racist of the LDS. Enders Game.
In my experience people who make the greatest art are generally not good people. I would even say to make good art you kind of have to be a bad person because that is likely what made you use art as an outlet in the first place.

Yessss! This new album came out the other week and it's amazing! Chevelle is just a solid band and they were actually very popular for many years. They had music played in the radio all the way up till the 2016 album, The North Corridor, and are considered a staple and classic rock band. Glad you got this song. One of the best ones on the new album. Funny enough they have gotten compared to Tool many times. Obviously their own beast but there are hints and reminiscent vibes through many albums.

Chevelle is another, "thinking man's" band. "Face to the floor" is about, Bernie Madoff and what he did to people. The guitar, and bass in this song, and the way it hits, give me the goosebumps and the feeling you get in you shoulders and chest after hearing that certain song, that gives you this emotion.

When Chevelle's first album came out, there was a rumor that Maynard had a side project that was going to be smaller and less cerebral. Because of the singer's tones and qualities, my friends and I all questioned whether Chevelle was that project (turned out to be A Perfect Circle which would come out a bit later). But I like that you caught that similarity.

    One other thought:
On the topic of 4/4 time. As much as it may be plain jane it can definitely drive a song. There's a reason why it's attractive to the listener, sometimes the ear just wants something that isn't hard to comprehend.

This is probably my favorite song on the album, and Pete’s power in the chorus is so awesome. I heard Chevelle for the first time when I was maybe 7 years old... I came across them again at 17 and I like to think it was hearing them at the age I did was what got me into the music I listen to now. It was like a huge sigh of relief when I found them again, even though I was never really looking for them.
As for some song suggestions... in no particular order.

Artificial Language: Turn Off The Pictures
    Caligula's Horse: Graves
    Haken: Carousel
    Periphery: Omega
    The Omnific: Khimaira
    Maraton: Spectral Friends
VOLA: Applause of a Distant Crowd
    Soen: Lunacy
