Loved the reaction. This is from their NIRATIAS album released last year. It is a concept album, and it is 🔥
Just going to point out that Pete is the songwriter, the singer, and the sole guitarist. Their bass player left in 2019, so he also recorded that chunky bass on this. I’m always going to give Pete his flowers.
As for what’s next - if you want heavy, you will love “Shot From A Cannon”. Something beautiful - “Remember When” is a must. Love you guys ❤

The majority might say Chevelle would be the opener for Deftones and Tool but that absolutely doesn't mean they aren't crazy good. I feel like sometimes people give up on Chevelle before they "get it"😉

That chorus somehow always reminds me of old-school Muse. So powerful and melodic. I sing along to this album while driving, it's amazing.
Chevelle - Deftones - Tool
I saw them open up for Korn the other year. They are insanely good live and are definitely a breed of their own that fits so well with Deftones and TOOL for sure. Nothing light about them - this song is a raw and undeniable example of that. Amazing.

Bad ass three piece band!!! The song "an evening with el Diablo" i listened to for over a year straight... Kept me from offing myself, im an atheist, but knowing my own demons.... That song let me release!!! That and "diluted" by slipknot.... They kept me alive!! Living on my own, putting my way through high school, working almost full time, paying bills, working out to try to go to college for football.... My head was a mess!!! Those to straightened me out, made me work harder and want to strive!!!

Fun Fact - Chevelle is currently solely comprised of 2 brothers , Pete (vocals, guitar, and bass) and Sam (drums) Loeffler. They wrote and recorded the last album alone, but Kemble Walters plays bass when they tour.
I think it comes out more in the mid section of the song

@@Brotha_Teresa ghost and razor is probably my favorite song on their last record with a close second being Mars Simula. Pete almost sounds like Maynard in the chorus on Ghost and Razor. Plus, I absolutely adore the chord progression in the chorus! It’s one of the most funky/groovy chord progressions I’ve heard for a chorus! I also really love how Pete stretches his vocals on the last chorus of the song (and sounds a lot like Maynard in the process).

I don't know much Chevelle but I love this song. Massive Deftones fan and not seeing the similarities musically but can see why both would have crossover fans.
I hear more Tool in this song.. even Muse.
The only Deftones-ish thing i could hear in it are the vocals during the verses, but they're not nearly as whispery and sensual as Chino does it.
If you listen to "Antisaint" from their album Vena Sera and "Peach" from NIRATIAS, you'll hear Tool's influence. When they came to Griffin to play a show back in 2009, they cited Tool as an influence in the blurb for their tour.

One of their greatest and most underrated songs is "Breach Birth" from This Type of Thinking Could Do Is In. You really need to check that one out.
Chevelle has a catalogue of 'save the Earth' songs. One Ocean, Saferwaters, etc. 'Jars' is the best of the Save the Earth songs

Saferwaters was actually written about the departure of their other brother on bass. The song essentially describes the feelings of the departure and how they grew apart. Apparently, the relationship with the other brother is so sour that they are not on speaking terms anymore. But I could see how someone would interpret Saferwaters as a conservation/environmentally friendly song.

I seen a concert with deftones and chevelle it was point fest in STL. It also had Coheed and Cambria who you should react to sometime.

On a side note a interview with them asked what's your inspiration and pete replied tool and helmet and if you listen to their stuff it is a complete blend of just that.... at least in their early work!!!

NIRATIAS = Nothing is real and this is a simulation (that’s their latest album) which is where this song is from. Probably their best album cover to cover that’s not from their early days.
MARS SIMULA & SELF DESTRUCTOR from this album you should also check out, but they are absolutely incredible and have so much more to offer

If I was to have to compre Chevelle to either Tool or Deftones, I'd definitely have to say Deftones but, Chevelle is most certainly in their own lane. In my personal opinion though, Chevelle sounds like... well... Chevelle! 🤘🏼💙🤘🏼

I'm right there with you on that Pete is 🔥🔥 and don't get nearly enough recognition and praise. Pete and Sam are very talented and should have so many awards that they don't know what to do with all of them but I'm not even sure if they have any awards if anyone knows let me know please

It's tough to say who sounds like who because both bands first album came out in 1995.
I saw you ask in another reaction to suggest a Chevelle song that sounds more like Tool:
Ghost and Razor. It sounds like it's right out of Undertow, you guys would love that one
As much as I really like Chevelle, The Deftones are the Pioneers of that sound - so they are definitely the headliner act!

I have Deftones then Chevelle and then Tool. But Chevelle's more recent stuff is better than the Deftones' recent stuff and it is very close.
@@hazi5961 HARD disagree. Chevelle isn’t even in my top 20 favorite bands whereas Deftones is my third favorite of all time. Love them but they’re not Deftones and let’s not pretend they are anywhere near as influential.

If Tool is too pretentiously prog and/or psychedelic and Deftones is too shoegaze, try Chevelle -- a solid bluesy melodic metal band. Similar to the others but definitely their own band. These guys know how to chunk up a riff and hook you in the chorus, for damn sure.

Fun fact i saw manson and slayer in chicago like 12 years ago and slayer opened for manson cuz they were swappin who closed the show.....slayer playing before manson was the biggest insult I've ever seen live 😂😂 so anticlimactic

Deftones, Chevelle, Tool. easy. Tool is easily the biggest and most influential out of the three, followed by Chevelle and then Deftones but i think those two might be interchangeable but i lean more towards chevelle but love all three

lol they totally sound like tool. they've mentioned Tool being a huge influence as well. Deftones have a shoo gaze style and bands like loathe and sleep token sound like them. A Tool fan will never say another band sounds like them, according to Tool fans Tool is the only original band ever lol
