Love the idea of this book but I can easily spot several issues just from a first readthrough of only factions I personally care about. Really hope GW bothers to put out FAQs to fix these and add new models that are released later to the detachments. 1. Company Heroes will be instantly destroyed because you can't attack characters in boarding actions. They're listed as 5 models so it feels like some special rule was thought of but didn't get printed. 2. Kyvaan Shrike is usable in boarding strike but doesn't lose Echo of the Ravenspire like he does in Pilum Strike Team. This is because they forgot to exclude phobos characters(despite remembering to exclude terminator characters). Ironically he can only be around other flying units when used in boarding strike. 3. Maugan Ra is unusable because Dark Reapers can't be taken. Maybe Dark Reapers were removed last minute? Should've just been left in. 4. This was clearly written before the new Imperial Agents codex. Deathwatch are in space marine detachments, both assassins and navigator are missing. Also feels weird giving Arbites their own detachment but whatever. These complaints are based mostly on what units were allowed with the original mustering rules at the start of 10th edition. 1. Prince Yriel, corsairs, and Ynnari aren't playable. Corsairs and Ynnari I could see added in a white dwarf maybe. Although I bet Prince Yriel is getting to legends soon. 2. Krootox Rampagers, and Farsight aren't playable. Feels like they should have been included. 3. Tyrant Guard, Venomthropes, and Zoanthropes aren't playable. Combined with genestealers being moved to their detachment Tyranids lost a lot of variety. 4. Space marine scouts aren't playable. Probably should have been included in the phobos detachment.

Looking at a couple of these detachments to play, all of the Drukhari should be fun for my collection. Thinking of starting Death Guard for the Unclean Uprising, buy a combat patrol, 2 boxes of cultists, and some Spawn. I think the Lord of Virulence is probably a much better leader, being generic for an enhancement and with that plague spewer, but I love Typhus even without his psychic nuke.
I love typhus too (he’s also 1” faster than regular LoV) but in our game (available here on our channel!) I decided to run him as a generic guy 😁 base and equipment is identical and he can take the enchantment
Correct me if I'm wrong, but on rules such as the Wraiths of the Void detachment's "Wraith Marked" rule, when it says "Make a leadership test," a failed leadership test wouldn't battleshock a unit. Battleshock tests are explicitly referred to as battleshock tests whenever they're referenced, wouldn't a leadership test just be rolling a test for that units leadership? Even if such a unit was under half strength, it isn't a battleshock test and doesn't take place in the battleshock test of the command phase. There could totally be a core rule change in the boarding actions book that proves me wrong, it could also just be GW wording their rules poorly again, but it struck me as odd.

54:44 Waaagh! is an army rule and an ability on ork sheets. There are no army rules carried over from 40k. This is a similar but nerfed version (no adv + charge) and they are saying that Orks extra rules are allowed to interact with it in the same way as the Waaagh!
The part „retain that ability” was confusing for me, but you’re right. They retain their ability and not army rule, and they then count void waagh as waagh for datasheet ability 🧐

Astra Militarum kinda got really shafted with these rules. It really seems like the Guard really struggle with doing any meaningful damage here. Even in Kill Team, Lasguns have a reasonable chance of dealing considerable damage.
Yes and no. I agree that they are weak damage dealers, but they will be able to bring tons of units. They will have advantage in controlling the board. Also with other armies splitting units it may be easier to actually kill a squad. Some special weapons in the mix. I think they’ll be ok (but we will probably test it in battrep ;) )

You stated that for the second Grey Knights detachment, you would have to go Terminator + Chaplain to field 3 units. You apparently missed that you can take up to TWO from the characters list. (With the first Detachment as well). So it's 2x Terminators + Chaplain OR 1x Terminators/Paladins + 2 Characters.
True, but unless you go for draigo and paladins you end up as an underdog and still have only 7 models and no battle line to secure objectives, which might be risky ;) but also super easy to make and fun for games

That’s a good question. RAW they will be immediately destroyed. But since they’re specifically listed as available units I expect them to be FAQed and available as long as you have character who can lead them available. Although interestingly they’re listed as a 5man squad so maybe you field them with captain as a single squad?
Yeah, the question is, do I have to pay for a captain/chaptermaster, and if so does it take a HQ slot, or if it's a typo and it's just a 4 man squad. If I have to take the first option, is it considered one squad? And do they all gain the leader buffs of said captain/chapter master?
For flexibility and balance I tend to just have them be a 4 man unit. On the other side, "The Boarding Actions Mustering Rules" document (which is referenced in page 13 of the book), is stated to be the most up to date document needed to put put together a force. In said document Company Heroes are not listed as an option for any Space Marine detachment

Love the idea of this book but I can easily spot several issues just from a first readthrough of only factions I personally care about. Really hope GW bothers to put out FAQs to fix these and add new models that are released later to the detachments.
1. Company Heroes will be instantly destroyed because you can't attack characters in boarding actions. They're listed as 5 models so it feels like some special rule was thought of but didn't get printed.
2. Kyvaan Shrike is usable in boarding strike but doesn't lose Echo of the Ravenspire like he does in Pilum Strike Team. This is because they forgot to exclude phobos characters(despite remembering to exclude terminator characters). Ironically he can only be around other flying units when used in boarding strike.
3. Maugan Ra is unusable because Dark Reapers can't be taken. Maybe Dark Reapers were removed last minute? Should've just been left in.
4. This was clearly written before the new Imperial Agents codex. Deathwatch are in space marine detachments, both assassins and navigator are missing. Also feels weird giving Arbites their own detachment but whatever.
These complaints are based mostly on what units were allowed with the original mustering rules at the start of 10th edition.
1. Prince Yriel, corsairs, and Ynnari aren't playable. Corsairs and Ynnari I could see added in a white dwarf maybe. Although I bet Prince Yriel is getting to legends soon.
2. Krootox Rampagers, and Farsight aren't playable. Feels like they should have been included.
3. Tyrant Guard, Venomthropes, and Zoanthropes aren't playable. Combined with genestealers being moved to their detachment Tyranids lost a lot of variety.
4. Space marine scouts aren't playable. Probably should have been included in the phobos detachment.
I’ve missed the boarding strike Shrike omission. But yeah, editorial was flat out worst I’ve seen from GW yet, and they are notoriously bad 😅

Looking at a couple of these detachments to play, all of the Drukhari should be fun for my collection. Thinking of starting Death Guard for the Unclean Uprising, buy a combat patrol, 2 boxes of cultists, and some Spawn. I think the Lord of Virulence is probably a much better leader, being generic for an enhancement and with that plague spewer, but I love Typhus even without his psychic nuke.
I love typhus too (he’s also 1” faster than regular LoV) but in our game (available here on our channel!) I decided to run him as a generic guy 😁 base and equipment is identical and he can take the enchantment
Correct me if I'm wrong, but on rules such as the Wraiths of the Void detachment's "Wraith Marked" rule, when it says "Make a leadership test," a failed leadership test wouldn't battleshock a unit. Battleshock tests are explicitly referred to as battleshock tests whenever they're referenced, wouldn't a leadership test just be rolling a test for that units leadership? Even if such a unit was under half strength, it isn't a battleshock test and doesn't take place in the battleshock test of the command phase. There could totally be a core rule change in the boarding actions book that proves me wrong, it could also just be GW wording their rules poorly again, but it struck me as odd.

54:44 Waaagh! is an army rule and an ability on ork sheets. There are no army rules carried over from 40k. This is a similar but nerfed version (no adv + charge) and they are saying that Orks extra rules are allowed to interact with it in the same way as the Waaagh!
The part „retain that ability” was confusing for me, but you’re right. They retain their ability and not army rule, and they then count void waagh as waagh for datasheet ability 🧐

Astra Militarum kinda got really shafted with these rules. It really seems like the Guard really struggle with doing any meaningful damage here. Even in Kill Team, Lasguns have a reasonable chance of dealing considerable damage.
Yes and no. I agree that they are weak damage dealers, but they will be able to bring tons of units. They will have advantage in controlling the board. Also with other armies splitting units it may be easier to actually kill a squad. Some special weapons in the mix. I think they’ll be ok (but we will probably test it in battrep ;) )

You stated that for the second Grey Knights detachment, you would have to go Terminator + Chaplain to field 3 units. You apparently missed that you can take up to TWO from the characters list. (With the first Detachment as well).
So it's 2x Terminators + Chaplain OR 1x Terminators/Paladins + 2 Characters.
True, but unless you go for draigo and paladins you end up as an underdog and still have only 7 models and no battle line to secure objectives, which might be risky ;) but also super easy to make and fun for games

I wish they did their own points for boarding actions. That points values for the GK characters are kinda stupid and you will realistically end up wasting 55+ points.

It’s not available to use in this play mode
That’s a good question. RAW they will be immediately destroyed. But since they’re specifically listed as available units I expect them to be FAQed and available as long as you have character who can lead them available. Although interestingly they’re listed as a 5man squad so maybe you field them with captain as a single squad?
Yeah, the question is, do I have to pay for a captain/chaptermaster, and if so does it take a HQ slot, or if it's a typo and it's just a 4 man squad. If I have to take the first option, is it considered one squad? And do they all gain the leader buffs of said captain/chapter master?
For flexibility and balance I tend to just have them be a 4 man unit. On the other side, "The Boarding Actions Mustering Rules" document (which is referenced in page 13 of the book), is stated to be the most up to date document needed to put put together a force. In said document Company Heroes are not listed as an option for any Space Marine detachment

Is there a better example of how to build an army? You can have Azreal and the Lion and a bunch of units that can go way over 1000 points. I thought these were supposed to be smaller games. I never played boarding actions so really not understanding how to build a list off this?
