At this point, how can you go through life without listening/reacting to every single Metallica song? Let us continue to be your tour guide and enjoy the ride.
Napster is the reason I know about 7dust, Hed pe, and many other bands. I bought all there albums. Lars Ulrich is the drummer for Metallica and a selfish prick who demonized Napster because they were loosing pennies because people could download all there songs but it was more of an exploration for people to discover new music they have never heard before and would never blindly buy their albums without first knowing what they were about. I rarely listen to Metallica to this day because of how selfish they acted. They are shamefull pigs
Dude. Your reaction to this reminds me why Metallica is my favorite band. Reminds me how powerful they are when sometimes I get complacent after having listening to them for 25 years.
Agreed. Seeing people react to Metallica tracks for the first time makes me feel like I'm rediscovering them all over again. Like you said, over time you become complacent and forget how truly great their music is.
Metallica’s best song, bar none. Relentless energy, relentless lyrics, Top 3 solos by Kirk. The transitions are fucking nuts, the riffs are heavy, Lars did his work. Cliff on that bass is stupid good (Rest in Power), and what about that BACK TO THE FRONT breakdown, too good.
Being a veteran from that time period (I served from 1987-1994) I can say on the one hand that this song was my anthem after I spent my first few years in uniform and HATED that I was the property of the US Government. But now, so many years later despite what I did not like my time in service, my overall feeling of that time is one filled with pride and I am glad I did and would gladly do it again. But There were very few cowards and no one blindly followed anyone. We followed orders but often enough we didn't always agree with them. I've seen plenty of guys face disciplinary action for questioning or disregarding orders they considered unlawful. Still an awesome song, but it is a rather shallow view of what it's like to actually be in the military...at least how it was in the late 80's early 90's
You were a worthless coward that couldn’t do anything better with his life other than murder. The fact that you’re proud of your time there is a disgusting distortion of human decency, and you’ve done nothing but fuel an empire of never ending death and corruption.

Fck this song is so fcking epic. You couldn't imagine how happy you would feel if you went into the studio and wrote a song like that. Pumped up big time
Fun fact: The original concept of this song came from football players, a great player comes along but suffers a great injury (i.e. a concussion) and the owners of the team cast them aside to bring in new blood.
Outstanding reaction as always Alex. This song really puts words to how many of us Veterans feel when we get home too, especially after fighting just to be sent home and forgotten. We did our job now we don't matter, we're disposable ....like a spent shell casing did our job then cast off
master of puppets greatest album ever made masterpiece of masterpiece on this album. and to think this was the follow up to ride the lightening which was masterpiece after masterpiece after masterpiece.
Somewhere within Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, and And Justice For All, Metallica became God-like in their ability to write and arrange these epic songs, and this one definitely shines bright above many others.
“Now an empty shell” is such a genius lyric. It draws a parallel between empty bullet casings littering a battlefield, and the corpses of soldiers. The soldiers aren’t just shells of their former selves, which is the standard meaning of that phrase… it’s like they were bullets in a gun, fired at an enemy and all that remains of them is a spent casing laying on the battlefield.
This is and always be my favorite metal song. It's epic, the structure is dynamic, super well built, the attitude is very dominant, lyrics are superb... that song is perfect
I'm super excited about your opinion on ORION because this song is so different from the rest and still fits perfectly on the album. Also the perfect choice to take a deep breath before DAMAGE INC totally kills it. Man, MASTER OF PUPPETS is an insanely brilliant album. It's always been a tight race between this and RIDE THE LIGHTNING but PUPPETS kills it every time.

I love the way he feels when hearing these songs. I felt the same way over 35 years ago. It's funny to see, that he's only now; picking up on how great this band was. Over 35 years later. So happy to see that he likes it....and he gets it. Cliff em' All!
I've always loved how they added an extra "back to the front" at the end of the last chorus, but instead of the gang vocal, it's just James and his tone is just so vicious and dismissive. And then on the very last "back to the front," James really drags out the "frooont." It's those kinds of details, other bands just don't write like this. No one else will make you feel things quite like Metallica does. It just wrenches your gut.
Kirks guitar is never angry or brutal. It is fast, emotional, diverse and harmonic. Among all the others I think he is the best. I adore Tony Iommi, Buckethead or Eddie Van Halen. But he is the best. The lyrics, "Back to the front!" are terrifying. Imagine watching the front line getting mowed with bullets only to have your commander yell "Back to the front!" like you're just a human meat shield.
@@1sonavabitch i think they were more mad at the fact that songs of theirs that hadn’t been released yet got leaked on there
One of my many favorites! Glad you ok from the accident Lol last year!
The best metallica song by far.
Putting it mildly...
Damn straight, this is a f#@$%! Masterpiece.
@@anthonymichel4660 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Worst song on the album.
@@hitmixhyepock9405 Hey buddy. Did none teach You about a little word named Respect?
Doesn't the fact that those guys had to face disciplinary action underline the words in the song that you're expected to follow blindly?
You were a worthless coward that couldn’t do anything better with his life other than murder. The fact that you’re proud of your time there is a disgusting distortion of human decency, and you’ve done nothing but fuel an empire of never ending death and corruption.
This whole album is just so damn good.
Disposable Heroes was strangely the first song i ever heard from Metallica - and to this day my favourite.
This is the song you say is your favorite Metallica song when wanting the respect of another Metallica fan. That vocal track is one of James best
My goddamn forearm playing James’ part 😭😭
This song is not technically difficult to play on the guitar (to me), but holy fuck is it one of the most exhausting songs to keep up the entire way through.
Better get that picking hand warmed up before this one!
So you down pick this well. Probably not
@@patrickmelhorn793 LOL hell no
@@patrickmelhorn793 The song wasnt even recorded with downpicking all the way. Main riff uses alternate picking on the last part.
Yet James downpicks this, and sings at the same time
This song metaphorically refers to football players according to James !
Not bad for a song done 35 YEARS AGO! And it still holds up!
Fck this song is so fcking epic. You couldn't imagine how happy you would feel if you went into the studio and wrote a song like that. Pumped up big time
Probably my favorite song off this album.
8:23 this transition! 🥵
Only a true metal head remains enthusiastic enough to listen to Metallica right after a car wreck.
Glad you’re okay, bruh, it’s a scary world.
@Apple Smart Fridge Truth! 🤘🤘🤘
My luck, I will be listening to it during the crash and right after
This is the way.
@@chrisparrett8416 DING DING DING! we have a winner! 🤘🤘🤘
A wreck? Tis but a inconvenience! A scratch! Where’s my metal? Who turned it off?!
Fun fact: The original concept of this song came from football players, a great player comes along but suffers a great injury (i.e. a concussion) and the owners of the team cast them aside to bring in new blood.
The entire Master Of Puppets album is a masterpiece. On a question which is my favourite song, I would say "all of them". It's damn awesome....
Outstanding reaction as always Alex. This song really puts words to how many of us Veterans feel when we get home too, especially after fighting just to be sent home and forgotten. We did our job now we don't matter, we're disposable ....like a spent shell casing did our job then cast off
Such an AWESOME album.. 🤘
That's an understatement
master of puppets greatest album ever made masterpiece of masterpiece on this album.
and to think this was the follow up to ride the lightening which was masterpiece after masterpiece after masterpiece.
Somewhere within Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, and And Justice For All, Metallica became God-like in their ability to write and arrange these epic songs, and this one definitely shines bright above many others.
@histnerd6 Agreed
"It sounds like they did a bunch of preworkout mixed with cocaine."
- Alex Hefner 2019
2019? Lol
@@soadratmetc Time traveller confirmed?
This is and always be my favorite metal song. It's epic, the structure is dynamic, super well built, the attitude is very dominant, lyrics are superb... that song is perfect
I'm super excited about your opinion on ORION because this song is so different from the rest and still fits perfectly on the album. Also the perfect choice to take a deep breath before DAMAGE INC totally kills it. Man, MASTER OF PUPPETS is an insanely brilliant album. It's always been a tight race between this and RIDE THE LIGHTNING but PUPPETS kills it every time.

@@tallycahamuhlhetru26 Oh, thanks. Didn’t know that.
One of their best, period.
Need to do a deep dive on some covers they did. Breadfan, Whiskey in the Jar, Am I Evil etc
Agree. Bredfan is a must. I'd like to see a reaction from Garage Days Re-Revisited like The Small Hours, The Wait, GreenHell.
Substitute Small Hours for Whiskey in the Jar
Their cover of Queens stone cold crazy is the best!!!🤘🤘
The Prince is incredible too.. maybe the best cover band on planet earth, also known universe.
@@chrisw1360 you left out last caress. Danzig himself loved their version of it.
The album art really fits this incredible song. Great reaction, brother. I'm glad you weren't injured. Cars can be replaced, but you're an original, only one!
Best Metallica song ever!!! All of the songs from Master Of Puppets are epic, wait till you hear Leper Messiah, Orion and Damage Inc, your mind will be blown. Glad you digging it...😊🤘🏻

I used to play this song in one of my old bands back in 1998. We always called it "Disposable E Notes"!!
You gonna love “dyers Eve” too....:)
Kirks guitar is never angry or brutal. It is fast, emotional, diverse and harmonic. Among all the others I think he is the best. I adore Tony Iommi, Buckethead or Eddie Van Halen. But he is the best. I want to shake his hand one day - I probably get a heart attack (which would be not the worst way to die...)
This is one of the hardest songs to play in guitar. I usually play it by the end of my sessions ‘cause I end tired as f*ck
Definitely great for improving rhythm
I'll leave some Meshuggah's Bleed, DragonForce's Through the Fire and Flames, Slipknot's All Hope Is Gone , and then I'll see myself out :)
@@Manu-Official this is one of those songs that doesn’t have technical riffs but is fucking ridiculously tiring. Like Bleed, not tricky riffage, just fucking mind numbing picking
Don't stop with this album man. Keep going and do them ALL! Listen to the highs and lows they go through as time went on. You'll definitely get a sense of how a lot of us grew up. 🤘🤘🤘
Can't wait for Leper Messaiha!!!!
Guilty one
Leper messiah is One of there most underrated songs
One of my all time favorite metallica songs
Most underrated song, in my opinion. The bridge of that song is so good.
my favorite metallica song for a reason, just insanity
You BETTTERRR react to the best band ever's ENTIRE DISCOGRAPHY!! haha, keep up the great work Alex!
You understand the talent in words and instruments and story of solo GOOD job most don't
Yes!! So happy that you finally got to this one!! This is one of my absolute favorite Metallica songs!! You gotta check out the day that never comes.
the riffs mimicking machine gun fire
Just imagine that they wrote that when they have 22-24 years old
I mean... writing it isn’t terribly hard when you can bounce ideas off one another
yeah but nothing as advanced and mature as master of puppets
@@Reckless_Metal Wait, I’ll I’ve gotta do is get w a couple buddies and spit ball ideas off eachother to write a timeless masterpiece??
Niiice! Thanks for the advice!
@@FinkleisEinhorn52 sure can lol thats how they wrote everything
@@filipvaquero8140 Well if you’re like james and kirk that kinda stuff just comes to you I guess

I have been wanting you to do this song for a while. This is the best “this is the reality of war” song ever.
Haven’t watched your vids in a while, but I love the intro. Don’t know if it’s new but it’s new to me so super dope. Also been waiting years for a reaction to this so I’m hype. Love your vids man!
I really liked this song a whole bunch when I first heard it. Then I joined the Army and the song took on a whole new meaning to me. I have grown to love this song now that I have been in and then doing three separate deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. I also did 12 months in South Korea in what is known as area one. Where I was in South Korea I received the same hazard duty pay as I did for each combat tour. I was within a distance of less than 12 miles from the border of North Korea. I did really enjoy the time while I was in the Army and will always be great full for the opportunity to serve my country.
Thank you for your service John. 💪🏼
this song has been in my life for 20 years.... yet in the last two it has become one of my favourites
We need Sepultura!!!! Dead Embrionic Cells!
You listen to metallica now in current time but imagine how we felt hearing this back in 1986 during the time of madonna michael jackson and prince etc. It was a complete mind warping experience for us Gen Xer's. The complexity and depth of the music was truly ground breaking and set the gold standard for the "thrash" genre.
