In Greek mythology, Orion was this hunter who one of the goddesses was in love with, and he got killed one day, so she put him in the sky as the constellation Orion. Maybe it's just the mythology nerd in me, but I always thought it was about that, some of the riffs in the first part make me picture someone running across the plains, and then when it gets all spacey in the middle is maybe when he's put into the stars, and then it goes back into the original riffs because he's hunting forever now. Check out Tyr - The Lay of Thrym.
I read somewhere was that he fell in love with Artemis, Godess of the Hunt and his hunting partner, while she also secretly fell in love with him. One day he accidentally finds her bathing in the forest, and gets caught. Artemis didn't hate him for it, but she couldn't let go of pride. So she turned him into a stag, so that he wouldn't be able to tell anyone if this. But as she couldn't bear watching him being trapped in the body of his once prey, she summoned her hunting dogs, who hunted him through the forest, any gave him a mercy killing. And he was then, given a place in the stars. The song perfectly follows these events from me start to a bit before the 4th min mark, is their adventures and the life of a hunter. From there to about 5:40, it's him in awe of witnessing her naked in the forest. From there to 6:50 is her noticing him, and the rest is the transformation, the pursuit and the fade out, his eventual positioning on the sky.
The first part's right, but it was Actaeon who was turned into a stag after seeing her bathing, not Orion. Orion got stung by a scorpion, I believe, though I think some variants have it that Apollo tricked Artemis into shooting him.

The song "Orion" has a very special place in my heart, I can't really tell you why that is, but I can tell you that the song touches me deeply and it really means a lot to me and I think to a lot of people that you reacted to the song. It's unbelievable how awesome you are to your fans/your subscribers and I wish that there will be more Metallica songs to come (songs from Metallica that move me in a similar way are The Day That Never Comes, To Live Is To Die, No Leaf Clover and My Friend Of Misery... I have a feeling they will touch you as well, hope that doesn't sound weird). One more thing... I really really really want to apologize that I annoy you with my Metallica song suggestions so often and I hope you can forgive me, because your channel is awesome and I don't want you to be mad at me. Sorry for my long "letter". Have a beautiful day, Alex! Looking forward to your next videos. :)
As much as I love Metallica, having someone listen to an onslaught of Metallica isn't really helping them experience diversity in metal. We have Progressive Metal with bands like Periphery, Animals as Leaders and Born of Osiris. We have Doom Metal/Deathcore with bands like Chelsea Grin, White Chapel and Veil of Maya. The Metal Community in the comment section really need to pull their heads out of 80's thrash metal era and look at other things.
The way you described how you felt during this song is similar to how a lot of people I know felt. The feeling of being adrift in this vast presence. Everyone's is different, but that feeling is pretty consistent. This is one of those songs that you just can't compare to mere mortal songs and do anything in the comparison justice
I like to live is to die more but this is definatly amazing too! I'd rank the instrumentals in the following order: - to live is to die - orion - suicide and redemption - the call of ktulu - anesthesia (pulling teeth)
D00mnoodle / Sergeant Purge this is just my opinion, I personally love all their instrumentals, but Orion and Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth) have stuck with me 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼

Quite possibly THE greatest metal instrumental ever written! Dude, there’s like 3 places in there where I know you thought you were hearing a guitar soloing but it was ACTUALLY Cliff goin incredibly badass on bass- see if you can figure out where!💪🏻🤘🏻
To me, Orion always paints an image in my head, which I think Metallica are really good at with their instrumentals, without words, creating an image of the song in your mind. I always feel like Orion takes me on a journey through space (which goes well with the name), just floating through space, seeing everything it has to offer, beautiful sights and the more terrifying ones, it's not always a great time, sometimes it gets more intense and that's why I love this song, that's what goes on in my head when I listen to it and all that without a single lyric. Also Cliffs bass and his bass solos in this song are amazing. Another one of their instrumentals that I feel does this really well is The Call of Ktulu, that one also paints an image in my head, much more nightmarish and Cliffs distorted undertones sound like some beast calling out during the song. If you're interested in Metallica instrumentals, that's a good next choice. Also as for my last meal, dunno, some chicken I guess, chicken is great.
I think To Love is to Die is Metallica’s most underrated song. For me it took a few listens to get into it but now I’ve heard it so many times and I absolutely love it. It has such a fantastic melody that paints a picture in my head just like Orion.
Finally! THANK YOU. SO MUCH. Orion is my favorite song of all time and I have been requesting/waiting forfuckingever for either you or LostInVegas to do a reaction. Amped you liked it bro!
He used distortion chorus reverb and a wah pedal as a filter it kinda sucks that since his passing it's considered taboo to use those effects on the bass......cliff proved the bass could be a lead instrument
You said you liked crowd interaction, then you have to listen to My Friend of Misery by Metallica in Lisbon. That one gave me goosebumps and I've been a Metallica fan for YEARS.
Fav metal instrumental ever. I’ve been through a lot of shit with this song. Heartbreak, depression, sadness, loneliness, head messed up and lot more. This is the song that came first on my playlist. Its mean so much for me. 🤘🏾
It's so great. I imagine beethoven would have appreciated the way they arrange their instrumentals. It's not unlike a classical composition. Delicate high and lows, and power. All their instrumentals have such emotion. RIP Cliff. ♥️🤘
Not sure if you'll see this but if you loved this, I think you should listen to Soothsayer by Buckethead. It's a fucking masterpiece. The man has made over 300 albums (I'm not kidding) and everything he puts out is great!!!
Buckethead is mental. I am going through all of his solo music, about half way through I already have picked out 10 hours of music I could listen to daily. The studio version of Soothsayer is beautiful, the cleanest Buckethead's song, ideal for a beginner :)
These guy reactions are too accurate. I bet that almost all of us thought that all the solos were just guitars and that's it, the first time that we heard this masterpiece. Rest in Peace the God of bass players, Mr.Burton. Nice videos btw 🤘
I'm a full time cook, can I make my own last meal? For the protein, I would have a cut of beef tenderloin, marinated in some sort of salty, oily marinade, char grilled until you get those beautiful black lines and then fired in the oven at 350, pull it at 140 degrees and let it sit. The steak would be cut into medallions and placed on top of handmade fettuccine with my alfredo sauce. It's roux based and then with the cream, cream cheese, and parmesan, I add minced garlic, sauteed serrano peppers, and chipotle powder, salt and pepper to taste. Probably make some handcut fries for the hell of it too. Drop them for a minute, hold them out for 5, drop them again until golden brown and toss them in garlic salt while they're still oily Then I would die happy.
One thing that sets Orion apart from most of the instrumentals you'll listen to is that the bass guitar is at the core of the song. The sounds at the beginning of the song are from the bass, the first breakdown is the bass, and the penultimate solo is a bass solo. Plus, many parts where you might think are just repetitive riffs are filled with different drum breakdowns that never repeat their beats. You have a song that each of the three instruments have their limelight. That's what makes it special.
Last meal, hmmm. 16 Oz Filet Mignon, two pounds of French fries, Fruity Pebbles Milk shake, chocolate covered Oreos, 12 pack of Stella, fifth of Grey Goose, annddd Tool playing in the background while I indulge. And before you say they don't allow booze for a last meal it's my death row fantasy go away 😁
Try this, lay in in your bed with the lights off put your headphones on close your eyes relax and turn up some ORION. Not only will you feel it you will see it. Everytime the music builds up, everytime it slowly eases you back down......it's an actual emotional rollercoaster, the greatest rollercoaster you'll ever "journey" on.......musically of course.
This was one of Metallica's finest moments. The epitome of music speaking instead of the lyrics. Absolute perfection, heavy metal on its pure form. Few bands or songs have incarnated the feeling so faithfully. Plus, you should watch the version of the film Through the never ending. Waaaaaay more sentimental.
Addy White absoluetly masterpiece. Its make me sad happy any other feelings at the same time and its kinda weird but awesome feeling. This is reason why should Alex react to this song

Gotta listen to live is to die is the best off that album
@@theorigin2353 oh yea he definitely should. But for me, blackened is my favorite off of this album. It's my 3rd favorite metallica song after MoP and For whom the bell tolls.
The Bass on this track is a testament to just how amazing Cliff was! R.I.P. to a Metal Legend.
React to "Welcome Home Sanatarium" - By Metallica
hell yeah
Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart, Alex.
you should react to Anasthesia (pulling teeth) the Cliff Burton bass solo
Gotta do some of the live renditions though.
Anesthesia is not merely a bass solo, it's a prayer, a lecture, a declaration of independence.
React to james and his right hand. Cliff was AMAZING, but james has fueled the bsnd since the early 80's
chicago 83 is his work of art
I know I haven't seen him react to Anesthesia. I think he'd be speechless when it's over.
Metallica is by far on the Mount Rushmore of metal. You do as many videos on them as u want Alex. Kudos to you
To Live Is To Die
As much as I love Metallica, having someone listen to an onslaught of Metallica isn't really helping them experience diversity in metal. We have Progressive Metal with bands like Periphery, Animals as Leaders and Born of Osiris. We have Doom Metal/Deathcore with bands like Chelsea Grin, White Chapel and Veil of Maya. The Metal Community in the comment section really need to pull their heads out of 80's thrash metal era and look at other things.
but the Black Album version
I think kirk should see these, your reaction to his solos are always amazing. I'm sure it would put a smile on his face!
SEPULTURA- TERRITORY or ROOTS BLOODY ROOOTS. CMON HEF, DO IT FOR YOUR BRAZILIAN FANS
HELL YEAH agora sim
PROPAGANDA!!!!
Yeah, or Beneath the remains, for the Brazilian and Portuguese fans
\m/ too many metallica still no sepultura yet..
Has he reacted to any Sepultura yet?
The way you described how you felt during this song is similar to how a lot of people I know felt. The feeling of being adrift in this vast presence. Everyone's is different, but that feeling is pretty consistent. This is one of those songs that you just can't compare to mere mortal songs and do anything in the comparison justice
Obviously since it was made by an immortal person ! Cliff Burton is still own among us ! Through his songs

Metallica - Fight Fire with Fire
Metallica’s best instrumental 😎😍
I like to live is to die more but this is definatly amazing too! I'd rank the instrumentals in the following order:
- to live is to die
- orion
- suicide and redemption
- the call of ktulu
- anesthesia (pulling teeth)
D00mnoodle / Sergeant Purge this is just my opinion, I personally love all their instrumentals, but Orion and Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth) have stuck with me 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
This and Call Of Ktulu
Cliff’s classical training moulded this band into completeness.
Please do blackened by Metallica
And the whole ...And Justice for All album
More Likes, Metallica Family! WE NEED YOU!!!
Blackened is deffo in the top 3 Metallica songs for me

If he does it he needs to listen to the added bass version. With any song of that album lol.
React to Metallica - Battery live in Seattle 1989
.
I prefer "The Thing That Should Not Be", but you really can't go wrong with anything from that show.
Fuck YES
Best live
Can't wait to hear them when they get back with the symphony.
@@oyc7946 no, just.... no.
Ooi Yan Chen i see what you did there😌
if you like awesome instrumentals songs, you have to try "call of Ktulu" by Metallica, it's not an option !! ^^ (from a fench guy)
Baptiste Murat OMG YES on every level. One of their best. I’ve been a fan for as long as I can remember and watched them live five times. 🙌🏻
To live is to die is their best instrumental in my opinion as is a tribute to Cliff. I get goosebumps every time.
goosebumps baby !!! XD i agree this one is awesome but i'm still much into "the call..." personnaly
Tu as bien raison ;)
oh yeah ^^
DEATH - CRYSTAL MOUNTAIN
Cliff Burton...the God of BASS. You will be sorely missed. This tune is a masterpiece. Thank you
Quite possibly THE greatest metal instrumental ever written!
There's a UA-cam video just like what you explained with Orion. Check it out
Yes, yes, yes, and yes. All the yes.
delta77vioz Orion is better than TheCallofCthulu.. TCoC only give me scare, creepy and horor emotion. But thats just me
I think To Love is to Die is Metallica’s most underrated song. For me it took a few listens to get into it but now I’ve heard it so many times and I absolutely love it. It has such a fantastic melody that paints a picture in my head just like Orion.
Agreed. Metallica is masterful at capturing a mood/emotion/atmosphere, and their instrumentals showcase that 🤘🤘🤘
Finally! THANK YOU. SO MUCH.
Orion is my favorite song of all time and I have been requesting/waiting forfuckingever for either you or LostInVegas to do a reaction.
Amped you liked it bro!
It is time for Devin Townsend - Kingdom live at EMGtv :).
Yes!! I've been waiting for months.
Down the rabbit hole that is Devin Townsend.. YES, he must!
You have to Hear "To Live is to Die" and "The unforgiven II"... Its an Order!! Your ears will Blees to you
I still don't know how Cliff made that droning sound in the beginning.
Leslie cabinet from a B3 organ for the bass intro drone sound.
He used distortion chorus reverb and a wah pedal as a filter it kinda sucks that since his passing it's considered taboo to use those effects on the bass......cliff proved the bass could be a lead instrument
@@aaronmullenix5409 I've heard he used a wah pedal on his bass for that sound.
Death - Spiritual Healing
Rip chuck
Afonso Gonçalves damn that an awesome song
You said you liked crowd interaction, then you have to listen to My Friend of Misery by Metallica in Lisbon. That one gave me goosebumps and I've been a Metallica fan for YEARS.
Fav metal instrumental ever. I’ve been through a lot of shit with this song. Heartbreak, depression, sadness, loneliness, head messed up and lot more. This is the song that came first on my playlist. Its mean so much for me. 🤘🏾
To live is to die - Metallica
I second that " to live is to die" is another bad ass instrumental
Just listen to Orion live 92 San Diego, it's short, but it's the most beautiful part of the song played slower, it's damn beautiful.
The greatest instrumental of all time . On the same level as the best of the classical era Mozart etc
REACT TO BLACKENED BY METALLICA PLZ. THIS IS LIKE THE 1000000 TIME IVE RECOMMENDED
Metallica - Bleeding Me
Ivaylo Iliev live in Woodstock 99 exactly
It's so great. I imagine beethoven would have appreciated the way they arrange their instrumentals. It's not unlike a classical composition. Delicate high and lows, and power. All their instrumentals have such emotion. RIP Cliff. ♥️🤘
You gotta do Call Of Ktulu
Second this!!!
Call of Ktulu is freaking badass.
React to Disposable Heroes by Metallica
Ohhhhhh good one
austin gravatt YEAH!!!
A must
I've made the same suggestion to numerous channels multiple times lol
mike murray hahaha me too
Orion is my cup of instrumental tea. (also To Live is To Die, Anaesthesia, Call of Ktulu, anything by the gods of metal, most notably Cliff.)
Outstanding. My favorite Tallica instrumental. Thanx.
Last meal would probably be ass
The look of where has this been all my life LOL.
Bruce Dickinson - Tears of the dragon
Or Accident of birth or Man of Sorrows
Yeees
Chemical wedding!
If anyone is confused about where the bass solo is. 9:00
And yes, that is a bass guitar playing that.
There's a brief double bass harmony in there too. Innovation and musicianship to the top.
The best with this song is that after about 25 years it still amazes how the song ceep coming. Its like you wish it would never stop. :-)
BradPCGamer live at the Gothic from 2012
Please listen to Buckethead's Pike #17 and Pike #65
If he put out 300 albums there's no way everything could be great
Played this song in front of my entire high school with some of my best friends and it remains one of the best memories of my life.
Drop them for a minute, hold them out for 5, drop them again until golden brown and toss them in garlic salt while they're still oily
Then I would die happy.
Try some Five Finger Death Punch (Sham Pain, Coming Down, Save Your Breath) !!
Metallica were truly magic back then , Goosebumps indeed .
Can you tell which solos were done by Cliff vs Kirk? 😎
No.....he cant
He can’t probably
He probably can’t, but then again Cliff was too badass
Metallica - Dyers Eve
One thing that sets Orion apart from most of the instrumentals you'll listen to is that the bass guitar is at the core of the song. The sounds at the beginning of the song are from the bass, the first breakdown is the bass, and the penultimate solo is a bass solo. Plus, many parts where you might think are just repetitive riffs are filled with different drum breakdowns that never repeat their beats. You have a song that each of the three instruments have their limelight. That's what makes it special.
It’s Cliffs opus, the first break of the song with a cliffs playing is what made me love music. The composition aspect is his greatness.
The double guitar harmonic solo is my favorite part of this song.
I did this about a year ago....was the most emotional experience of my life(high as fuck at the time) must have cried for 15 minutes at least
I do that with Pink Floyd, i gotta try it with Orion tho! It might be even more trippy hehe
Call of Ktulu next plz
Orion just gives me chills. Such a masterpiece
Damn man...why didn't you let that slide into Damage Inc. ?? 🤬🤬
Maybe next react ^
Or Dyers Eve...Seek and Destroy??
Matthew Hancock Dyers Eve for sure
“Cowboys from hell” by Pantera. Please.
The live from Russia version

God yes!

DUDE YES I JUST EDITED MY COMMENT TO INCLUDE THIS THIS SONG IS TIMELESS A MASTERPIECE MAKES ME CRY EVERY TIME I HEAR IT
Addy White absoluetly masterpiece. Its make me sad happy any other feelings at the same time and its kinda weird but awesome feeling. This is reason why should Alex react to this song
Or spirit crusher.
It's time for The Stage, A Little Piece of Heaven, and Exist by A7X
Adam Nesvold we need one of them at least!
One day it'll be "Lawyer's FIRST TIME Hearing..."
The whole Master of Puppets album is good, you might consider reacting to other songs on it, perhaps 'Welcome Home (Sanitarium)'
Alison Hell by Annihilator
Yusss
Great reaction mate! Give Parkway Drive - Wishing Wells a listen, I think you'll appreciate it due to the lyrics.
This is my all-time favorite song or instrumental
I got a question for you Alex...do you listen to any metal songs that you haven't posted a reaction video to? Do you try to stick to only the songs that you've reacted to? If so, how hard is it for you to resist delving further into some of the bands that you really seem to enjoy (bands like Slipknot, Trivium, etc.)?
