Thanks all! And thanks Preston! This might be your best reaction vid yet, man. I feel your love for this great decade of the best music ever made. I remember camping for TWO days on a sidewalk in Portland Oregon... Waiting to buy And Justice For All on cassette! That's how F ING hardcore we were for this stuff! I saw Metallica play for the first time at monsters of Rock in the Seattle Kingdome, (88'?) and my ears bled! I remember them playing this song like it was yesterday.
This isn’t just their best song but this whole entire album is the best Metal album EVER written hands down still to this day. It’s a Fu*king Masterpiece NOTHING comes close
Id have to agree on that. Every song is a gem. Its probably the pinnacle of what heavy metal will ever be. I just dont see how anything could possibly top it. I speak from a practical point of view. Not an emotional one. The album is in fact, quite perfect on every level.
This was their 3rd album and they were on top of the their game. I was a freshman in HS at the time. Reliving this with you as you hear it for the first time is very nostalgic for me. Thank you so much.
I was a senior in High school when I saw them on the Justice tour in Weedsport. That outdoor concert was wild. I have seen nothing like it since. They were with Guns and Roses and no one even talked about GnR.
Ditto, that. They were the first band I saw in high school when they were the opening band for Ozzy. That was an awesome show. Brings a tear to my eye that I'm half a century old now. Man, where did the time fly. :)
I was in the 7th grade when this came out. The "creepers" (the widely used and "accepted" name for the heavy metal clique. You know... Whitewashed Jeans, Jean jackets with led zeppelin and metallica patches... Etc) were freaking out. My friends, though not in that clique, listened to metal. So I listened to master of puppets with them. It blew my mind. It started with Battery....
Hell yeah, such a underappreciated gem from this album! I guess that's what happens when damn near every song over the course of multiple albums is a friggin masterpiece!
I bought this album the day it came out back in the days when I was 20. This was the first song I heard from it because I put on side B first. I'm hitting 53 in a few weeks and it still gives me goosebumps man.
Bro you cannot argue with this possibly being their best song, but there are just so many great songs they have done. The joy you feel is damn cool to see and believe me I feel it too.
Truth! It is certainly my personal favorite but I can't even say by far because, like you said, there's just so goddamn many. If anyone ever asks "what is metal?" just forward then to this one.
For me, I have to listen to To Live is to Die with Dyers eve. They just belong together. Like Wet my Bed and Crackerman, Brain Damage and Eclipse, and We will Rock you with We are the Champions.
You're correct, but I always hear ajfa get shit on (by others), but consider the band lost one of their best friends and contributors then wrote ajfa... huge feat and clearly the best non cliff album by a mile, and I would argue best first 3 songs of any Metallica album
Yeah, I know people overate things all the time, sometimes it's justified sometimes not, with Metallica it's the latter. They did so much for heavy metal music and they're indeed the greatest metal band ever if we measure by it albums sales and concert tickets in total
Courtney DeAguiar Tell me you were in the fan club 😆 I was 🤯🤪🤘🏼They opened for Ozzy, can you imagine, 33 years ago they were an opening band, and this was their album for the Damage inc. tour. I was there, sixteen year old going nuts. Six months later Cliff died in that bus crash 😢
Daddy #53 thanks man, about two years ago I just hated music and now I’m in love with classic rock, hard rock, and now this amazing thrash metal (fade to black #1) wishing I was born to see them in concert when they were really good
Always loved drumming to this one! They hardly ever play this live which is a shame! Such a great track! One of my favorite Hammett guitar solos too! 🤘
haha yeah well if you play this on the drums you know how tiring it is. especially the high hat in this song, it goes off because he hits it hard. Also remember this is pre-stroke, a lot of people forget lars's drumming was affected by this.
@@MisterTargaryen I agree with that. There is definitely something to be said about the way Metallica interacts with their crowd. But the live version just isn't a good representation for first time listeners.
You are BY FAR the BEST reactor and appreciator of Metallica's music. I am in my 40s but began listening to them at the age of 13 in High School and they literally CHANGED my view on and love of music entirely! It's great to watch someone of this generation appreciating the masterpiece and mastery that is Metallica. Aloha and mahalo from Hawai'i!!!
Also, if it wasn't for guys like Johnny Cash, bands like Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, and a lot of other bands wouldn't exist. I'm saying this, because a lot of their songs have a specific message, like Johnny Cash's songs.
This album changed my life. I got this album as a freshman in HS. I played varsity basketball, varsity football (started offense, defense, special teams, played entire game) and ran track. I went immediately and got a guitar. Senior year, I quit sports and played in a metal band.
The fact that you realize how incredible this song is speaks to your true appreciation of amazing musicianship Metallica is all about . Kudos to you . Take this from a 60 year old who has been listening to this phenomenal group for 38 years !!!

As an "Old Head" ... I find it very reassuring to know my impressions and feelings that I derive from music are pretty universal, this is arguably one of, if not the best Metallica song....at least when considering their most brutal full aggression songs, as well as most intricate. That said, most of the songs I would say that challenge it for the top spot, come from this album or AJFA. It made me smile to hear you argue that this might be their best, especially considering the limited exposure you have had to their music. You could feel it. I don't think you would have many of us "old heads" disagreeing with you on this one, well done. Now give Blackened, Master of Puppets, Creeping Death, Four Horsemen, Shortest Straw, and The Thing That Should Not Be - a listen (trust me, that's just scratching the surface).
Lol I saw them at the capital theater in passaic New Jersey 1985 touring for master of puppets. Metallica was the opening act for a head lined Ozzy tour. I done told you braaahhhhh!!! Master is their best album, period. The whole album is just an onslaught of freakin' furious, unrelenting orchestral metal. Just. A. Different. Level. Master of all pieces = MASTERPIECE.
Great album, but Lightning is better
I agree man, Master was their peak creativity wise. Their peak when they still had some Thrash cred was the Black Album.
@@MrRudeboy212 I love Ride the Lightning, but not quite. Not as good from start to finish IMO. But 3 of my fave 10 Metallica songs are on RTL, including Lightning, Creeping and Fade to Black, perhaps the best power ballad of ALL TIME!!
@@them2002 * ...And Justice For All
Metallica is orchestral music. Strange most people don't hear it.
Blackened. The shortest straw. No remorse. Harvester of sorrow. Leper messiah
If they played this at the gym, the weight machines would be broken...
True
XMorbidReignX Or, The injuries that would ensue due to the adrenaline rush combined with instant over confidence would be astronomical
lol . that is all xD
@@HeyDude93gt ha ha ha, "instant over confidence!!"
At 0:37 when he says “I gotta feeling it’s gonna be one of them” all I could of was, man you don’t even know.
Finally did it!! Most Metallica fans do consider this song to be the best or in the top 5 songs they’ve made
Definitely no lol its an amazing track but metallica have at least 15 songs better than this. I mean... Its metallica, they just make good stuff
ZeManeiro ADMIN no way there’s 15 songs better than disposable heroes. I can’t even find 4 songs better than this
It could easily go top 20. But not top 5. Sorry. Insane song, though.
@@kpuff8282 Damage Inc, Dyers Eve, Master Of Puppets, Battery, One, The thing that should not be, fight fire with fire, Of wolf and Man, whiplash, Hit The lights, Seek and Destroy, The frayed ends of Sanity, (Spit Oit the Bone maybe, please don't kill me), and this one comes in... There's even people who consider some Load songs better than this... It's just a matter of tastes.
I'd have to agree with the premise of this comment. "Disposable Heroes" is not in my top 15, but I know that a lot and I mean A LOT of Metallica fans do have it in their top 5.
This was the first Metallica song I ever heard. It changed my view of metal and music.
Creeping Death next please
Live in Moscow 1991
@@erikk9080 nope, Seattle '89
Creeping Death is the shit!!!! Hell yeah
I agree, that was his favorite album at the beginning!
How about the original Ride the Lightning version? James can't bring that same fire live, plus it's Cliff on bass. Sad but true!
When a song like this gets underrated, u can say that band is a real fucking deal.
Abso-fkn-lutely!
I say it too, its time for blackened
Yeah for my money Blackened is probably top two or three if not number one in my book.
hes gonna love blackened
Blackened greastes Metallica song there is hands down
Disposable Heroes is definitely in my top 3 Metallica songs.
And one of The most underated among Metallica fans!
U damn right bruuuuuhhh!!!
Best album ever made,.. and as a former disposable myself.... That song hits me hard. Probably my favorite too, Preston.
Man this one and Ride the lightning I can't choose.
PUPPETS is only 2nd best.... after RUST IN PEACE.
Thank you for your service Barry! 🤟
@Cory Thompson shit man, the BIG 4 are my all-time favorite bands. they "made" me become a guitar player & I basically learned exclusively from them. didn't have lessons, just give me a bunch of their cds & the sheet music to a bunch of their songs & STAND BACK!!! I've been playin' since sat. june 6, 1992....yes, I even remember the day.
This is indeed the best Metallica song period. And this is its best reaction.
This isn’t just their best song but this whole entire album is the best Metal album EVER written hands down still to this day. It’s a Fu*king Masterpiece NOTHING comes close
Agreed. Absolutely the best metal album of all time.
No doubt about it. This is THE metal bible. The Holy Grail...
Love the reaction, brother!
Id have to agree on that. Every song is a gem. Its probably the pinnacle of what heavy metal will ever be. I just dont see how anything could possibly top it. I speak from a practical point of view. Not an emotional one. The album is in fact, quite perfect on every level.
no mate in my op RIDE the lightning is the best album it just got that horror feeling to it
Ride the fucking lightning
This was their 3rd album and they were on top of the their game. I was a freshman in HS at the time. Reliving this with you as you hear it for the first time is very nostalgic for me. Thank you so much.
Same here man!! Cool to see someone feel what we felt 32 yrs ago! Lol
LEPER MESSIAH BROOOOOOO
Fuck yes mate, fuck yes
That guitar is groovy as fuck in Leper Messiah
This song!! 💯💯
MikeHawk Juices Agreed. It’s nasty as hell. The riff in the tempo change is tight too!
Hell yeah, such a underappreciated gem from this album!
I guess that's what happens when damn near every song over the course of multiple albums is a friggin masterpiece!
"hold on brruuHHHHAAA" that's got to be my favorite reaction by anyone
I bought this album the day it came out back in the days when I was 20. This was the first song I heard from it because I put on side B first. I'm hitting 53 in a few weeks and it still gives me goosebumps man.
Bro you cannot argue with this possibly being their best song, but there are just so many great songs they have done. The joy you feel is damn cool to see and believe me I feel it too.
Truth! It is certainly my personal favorite but I can't even say by far because, like you said, there's just so goddamn many. If anyone ever asks "what is metal?" just forward then to this one.
ive changed my favorite so many times lol this one is currently number one tho
Disposable Heroes is absolutely a masterpiece.
Lars Will Do That To Ya
Hell ya it is!!!
This album got the perfect guitar tone for metal
Two words, DYERS EVE
Dyers Eve might b my fav metallica song!!!!!
Yes sir.
For me, I have to listen to To Live is to Die with Dyers eve. They just belong together. Like Wet my Bed and Crackerman, Brain Damage and Eclipse, and We will Rock you with We are the Champions.
I love Metallica, yet I specifically dislike Disposable Heroes and Dyers Eve. Weird.
Yup, Dyers Eve is simply epic!
Oh, you were RIGHT bro! This IS one of their very best songs. It was prime.
And that was my favorite reaction from you bro, THANKS!✌👊
Anything on
Garage Days
Kill Em All
Ride the Lightning
Master Of Puppets or
And Justice For All
Shit close ur eyes and just pick a song on those four albums and u can't go wrong lol
Hell ya bro! Those are all my fav albums too. Haha
Ehh -AJFA. It's got some skippable tracks. I could do without shortest straw or eye of the beholder. First 3 are all masterpieces start to finish.
You're correct, but I always hear ajfa get shit on (by others), but consider the band lost one of their best friends and contributors then wrote ajfa... huge feat and clearly the best non cliff album by a mile, and I would argue best first 3 songs of any Metallica album
Lots of juvenile shit on KEA. AJFA blows it out of the water.
Listen man I was laid off yesterday and life it’s rough.
Didn’t matter today, felt your energy and passion and made my day better.
Thanks man
This is why Metallica is the number one best Metal band.
David McC at least for me too
Undisputed
Yeah, I know people overate things all the time, sometimes it's justified sometimes not, with Metallica it's the latter. They did so much for heavy metal music and they're indeed the greatest metal band ever if we measure by it albums sales and concert tickets in total
One of the best songs From Metallica...I've been listening to them for 30 yrs already....and it still fires me up...
Bro I'm a massive (new) Metallica and megadeth fan and I haven't been alive for half of 30 years (13)
Your Main Boi Michael-Sam you’re on the right track, rock on young man!
TKCoutside another old time fan here. I saw them in a nightclub touring for “Ride the lightning“. Cliff was off the chain!
Daddy #53 thanks man, about two years ago I just hated music and now I’m in love with classic rock, hard rock, and now this amazing thrash metal (fade to black #1) wishing I was born to see them in concert when they were really good
And Justice for all...That whole album just blends and is flawless..Especially the intro to Blackened
5:27 "I'm about to flip over this computer, bro!" LOVE IT!!!
Saw them play it at Milton Keynes bowl 1993 to 80.000 people was some show tbf
Excellent choice bro! Leper Messiah next!! 🤘🏼🔥🔥
+1
This is 100% in the top 10. But wait until you listen to Creeping Death.
Studio version. None of that live bullshit
listening to 1000s of people chant "Die!" is awesome though...he should do both versions since he hasn't done a live song yet
@@MisterTargaryen I agree with that. There is definitely something to be said about the way Metallica interacts with their crowd. But the live version just isn't a good representation for first time listeners.
Always studio first, THEN live, in my opinion.
This is why metallica=the best artists ever to reach the ears of the world
All by no radio they never sold out then
Also, if it wasn't for guys like Johnny Cash, bands like Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, and a lot of other bands wouldn't exist. I'm saying this, because a lot of their songs have a specific message, like Johnny Cash's songs.
Metallica - Hit The Lights
the song that started it all ^^
Cannot imagine what that song sounded like in ‘82
MetikalMan
A lot of Diamond Head influence in James’ voice
Great call!
First song from their first album..
One of the greatest in my book!
And not alot of reactions to it for some reason!
Metallica- THE THING THAT SHOULD NOT BE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I want to like this comment like 100 times
My lord. He NEEDS to do this
A damned decent track.
Snoop Hogg for sure! If possible live in seattle!
Ive watched this reaction a bunch of times, it always puts a smile in my face
Same here. I'm back again actually lol
Metallica: I was born for diyiiiiiiiing
You: What du fuuuuuuck!
Amazing part, I loved your reaction
Called it!!
This album changed my life. I got this album as a freshman in HS. I played varsity basketball, varsity football (started offense, defense, special teams, played entire game) and ran track. I went immediately and got a guitar. Senior year, I quit sports and played in a metal band.
For reals bro..i totally feel ya...this has been my favorite since I heard it 20+ years ago....
This is their 3rd official album. Every song on all 3 of their 1st 3 albums is an absolute BANGER!!!
The fact that you realize how incredible this song is speaks to your true appreciation of amazing musicianship Metallica is all about . Kudos to you . Take this from a 60 year old who has been listening to this phenomenal group for 38 years !!!
100% their best song, everything is fucking awesome, singing, riffs, solo, drums. The drum fills on the 2nd verse are are my favorite.
Metallica - and Justice for all
This!
Luiz Junior tons of transitions!!
@@jasondonnelly4926 Indeed!! :)
It's probably my favorite song....so hard to say because they are so good.
you should check out " Metallica - blackened" you will not be dissapointed
Live in Seattle 89 !!!
YES! The live version from Seattle 1989 is the best!
Yeah man its fucking killer! But i dont know if its a good version to get into the song because the live performance is almost distracting from the song @@Lulustucru2393
Yes!!! Blackened!!
@@rt5u Yeah haha that's kinda the problem ! The whole show is so insanely good ! But I think he can give it a try nonetheless :)
BLACKENED has to be next
Metallica has some absolute skull crushers, but Disposable Heroes will always be in my top 10 of them. Maybe my top 5...
Disposable Heroes and Blackened just hit differently for me
Leper messiah hits the proper nerve
@@thal1 same
Their best song in my opinion. I love seeing peoples reaction to this song. “I was born for DYINGGGGGGGG”
I think that its time for “the frayed ends of sanity”
HEAR THEM CALLING ME!!!
This song is so underrated
For us, the metal militia, this is the heaviest anthem. The fans love this song, like any other I think.
That "hold on! bahhhhhhhhhhhh!" has me in stitches. That's how I feel every time I listen to this and I've been listening to it since 1987.
I got a tear in my eye on this one......ur discovery of new lands of sound is top!
Dude I thought I was the only one to get choked up. He’s got me hitting these albums again.
This album was released in 1986! I saw this tour as my 1st Metallica show, guess I'm an old head, lmao!
there are a lot of younger folks like myself that would have killed to see metallica in their prime. Don't feel bad. You're not old, you're seasoned.
Me too. Got to see Cliff live in Philly!
I'm right there with you. I saw them opening for ozzy that year.
You are not old, you are lucky for having more years to enjoy this
Lol I saw them at the capital theater in passaic New Jersey 1985 touring for master of puppets. Metallica was the opening act for a head lined Ozzy tour. They played so heavy and fast that when ozzy came on stage, the crowd booed them off lol... Metallica came back out and played more after Ozzy. That was my introduction to Metallica live !!!!!
Longtime viewer here. You’ve just earned a subscriber because you clearly know greatness when you hear it.
This is my favorite Metallica song along with Damage Inc.
The bass in this song is absolutely amazing. You can hear it perfectly. Rest in peace, Cliff Burton
