I saw this in Hartford before it went to Broadway and trust me it is one of the best shows I've ever seen and it also stays true to the movie but also add historical information about Anastasia and the Romanov family
Because they're going for a more realistic take. Rasputin had died before the Romanov murders. Hence him being cut. Gleb being a Bolshevik general makes perfect sense.
I know (I developed a crush on him when he played the Phantom). he looked like he did a good job playing the dangerous ex-boyfriend in Murder Ballad. I hope to see him in this!
I just saw this production this weekend on Broadway and I cannot begin to tell anyone who has the slightest interest in seeing it to PLEASE DO. This was the most beautiful show I've ever had the opportunity to go see. It was such a beautiful story, it had such beautiful music, and such beautiful set/costume design. I can tell that so much work was put into making this production the absolute masterpiece it is. The story unfolds so beautifully, the scene changes are so smooth, and the underlying messages dug into my soul completely. GO AND SEE THIS SHOW!! It was a total game changer. If you high expectations, you won't be disappointed.
Extremely disappointed by lack of "In the dark of the night" musical number. One of the best from the film. I know Gleb will be more complex of a character than a strictly evil villain, but he better get his own song at least. But also sad there is no Bartok.
Rasputin's dead at the time of the prologue. Beside's portraying a historical figure who was brutally murdered as an evil decaying sorcerer would be very disrespectful.
SuperWorldJumper one of the songs, called "God Bless My Homeland" features part of the melody from "In the Dark of the Night". So it kind of is almost there... It is hauntingly beautiful.
gaft24 Actually that song that you mention its called "Stay I pray you" but yeah it has a little instrumentation of "In the dark of the night" it always give my chills
Geez are people that salty about one little factor? So what is Christy Altomare is not a red head, have you heard her sing Journey to the Past? If she can act the part of Anastasia that well, then why should what hair color she has matter?
I know. In Phantom of The Opera, Christine is actually supposed to be blonde, but even die hard phans like me aren't bothered by the fact that she's a brunette.
Isobel Duncan Yeah I know cause I'm a Phan too, and Phantom is what really got me to love Broadway and musical theatre. But I can in some way understand why they're upset cause Anastasia is one of those things that very nostalgic with a lot of millennials, and I wouldn't really say the same for Phantom. But it's just a stage adaptation of the movie, so if it really bothers them that much then they don't have to acknowledge the play. Plus I don't see how this is any different from how they cast movies these days. You don't know how many movies I've seen where the character looks off from their book counterpart but they acted the part so well it didn't bother me.
You do know she is wearing wigs in the musical right? Female actors in musical are rarely not wearing a wig lol. They did change the hair slightly but I don’t know why people care. I love to see this fresh representation of a story I’ve always loved
I was able to see Ramin as Valjean in the Toronto production of Les Mis. And I cried at how much I just love his acting and singing. Now I need to see this
LuluMedly I saw him in Toronto as well! It was a birthday present, cause I was a fan from the phantom and les mis 25 anniversaries!!!!! I'm going to see a preview in a few weeks, over spring break, and dude, I am literally too excited for words
I just saw this musical today and I was enamored. They had a great mix of new stuff and stuff from the film. It was absolutely stunning and I'm so glad I got the chance to see it. I even got to meet some of the cast and got my playbook signed!
AHHHH ANASTASIA IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE MOVIES AND NOW ITS ON BROADWAY!?!? I say it's about time and am so happy that Anastasia is getting more recognition
I was too at first but now I am super excited for Gleb as the new villan. :) Plus I think they are going for a touch more realism in the musical compared to the movie.
Erin Swearingen I totally understand why they did it but it's one of those things where this movie was such a huge deal to nine year old me back in the day that now any change is pretty much unacceptable to current 23 year old me . 😂
I saw the musical! It was amazing it hit me like pow!all the singing, music, and staging I went here for a class trip! I was amazed and I remember the same character’s in this video and Anya and dmitry did such a good job and the sigh language peaple
This show looks amazing! The animated movie of Anastasia was my all time favorite as a kid and this musical looks like it's doing it great justice despite some artistic changes! I hope one day I can have the chance to see it live!
To all the people complaining about the lack of Rasputin and Bartok, they're going for a more historically realistic approach which means he's dead at the time of the prologue. And besides, it would be disrespectful to portray him the way he was in the film.
Hey guys, so, explanation: (Disclaimer, I don't know if anyone has explained this already but I didn't read all the replies to comments about this, just because I haven't seen the show yet and I didn't want to see any spoilers, so I'm sorry if I'm being redundant...but also if you have seen the show please put a spoiler alert before you reply!) Anyway, basically what I wanted to explain was that a lot of people are saying that they're disappointed that Rasputin is not in this version, but I'll tell you why this is actually totally okay: in the real life story, Rasputin died two years before the Romanovs were even killed; the "villains" in real life were actually the Bolsheviks, so that's why making Gleb the villain actually makes a lot more sense. (And like...Ramin, so...bonus points.) But don't get me wrong, I love Rasputin and Bartok, but I'm also glad they made some cool changes for this version. Because I mean the thing is is that they can't just make it exactly the same as the original or else people wouldn't have much of a reason to see it; they'd be like, "Why waste hundreds of bucks to see something I could see at home?" Unless they're super rich and have money to throw away anyway...but ya know what I mean. I hope...(Also sorry that was really long and I didn't mean to sound like know-it-all; I mean I don't know everything about this stuff so I'm just saying my opinion about what I do understand to some extent. Okay I'll stop babbling now. Bye.) ~:~
I'm seeing this in May after seeing Les Mis twice with Ramin twice and a concert performance of the Secret Garden. I think I've seen everything Ramin has done in New York.
The red dress actually bears the Romanov eagle and I love the way how the team of this musical carefully set up this show by adding small representations of the real-life Romanov family. Too bad I can't see this
please please have anastasia on broadway to singapore or at least have it on DVD/Bluray like they did for miss saigon :( i really want to see the show so bad!
If I Gave it tony Nominations they Would Be Best Musical, Best Book,Best Original Score, Best Actress, Best Actor , Best Featured Actor for Both John Bolton and Ramin Karimloo, Best Featured Actress for Mary Beth Peil and Caroline O Connor, Best Director, Best Scenic Design, Best Lighting Design, Best Orchestrations Best Costume Design and Best Choreography.
I really want to see this and hear the cast recording. Will Anya/Anastasia's character be sassy on broadway just like the movie? I won’t go if there’s no sass.
I think people should stop being so particular about what the characters/ people originally looked like. Most great classic Broadway plays feature white characters exclusively. We should give a chance for more diverse people to take the stage in these classic roles. I grew up with anastasia and love it but it breaks my heart to think that even if I trained to be a professional performer I would never secure the role because of something I can't control ( I'm Indian).
Sad about no in the dark of the night but I'm glad that they aren't turning Rasputin into some evil zombie anymore and created an original antagonist. Sad about there being no Bartock.
Dmitry looks just like the character from the movie! Oh, if only I could see this musical..
daphneinthetrees I thought the exact same thing
So true.. and this musical is look marvelous !
He really does! xD
daphneinthetrees I feel the exact same way!
daphneinthetrees yeah, really cool.
I saw this in Hartford before it went to Broadway and trust me it is one of the best shows I've ever seen and it also stays true to the movie but also add historical information about Anastasia and the Romanov family
CHRISTY AND DEREK ARE SO PERFECT FOR THIS
I would love to see this, I'm not even upset about Rasputin being cut if Ramin Karimloo's Gleb replaces him.
Cony Moya I still don't see.. why is gleb there???
Because they're going for a more realistic take. Rasputin had died before the Romanov murders. Hence him being cut. Gleb being a Bolshevik general makes perfect sense.
UHG!!!! Ramin a bad guy!!!! WHY?!?!?!
Calm down. He plays villains really well actually. Does Phantom ring a bell? He was even going to play the devil in a short film once.
I know (I developed a crush on him when he played the Phantom). he looked like he did a good job playing the dangerous ex-boyfriend in Murder Ballad. I hope to see him in this!
I really want to see this musical SO BADLY! Anastasia is such as huge part of my childhood and this looks brilliant!
,thetinymaria ,
The musical is on UA-cam
Why I dont live in New York ? I want to see this musical ! 😡 Sorry im frustrated

FYI, guys: Lily IS Sophie! It's the same character, but a different name :)
I honestly like that change.
Emily Kranking I do too
Anastasia was my childhood movie
Kathie 1800 Mine too
Same! As a kid I knew all the songs!😀
The sets and costumes are BEAUTIFUL!
Extremely disappointed by lack of "In the dark of the night" musical number. One of the best from the film.

SuperWorldJumper Bartok is my favorite part of the movie
SuperWorldJumper yes I agree Gleb deserves his own villain song which will hopefully articulate him as a unique morally grey antagonist.
I REALLY NEED TO SEE THIS! BUT IM IN AUSTRALIA :(
I FEEL YOUR PAIN!
I'm in Poland, damn :/
Geez are people that salty about one little factor? So what is Christy Altomare is not a red head, have you heard her sing Journey to the Past? If she can act the part of Anastasia that well, then why should what hair color she has matter?

riley sunderland exactly, and the real Anastasia doesn’t even have red hair, it’s like a dark brown. 😤😤
I'm going to see a preview in a few weeks, over spring break, and dude, I am literally too excited for words
saw him in concert....him being in Toronto drove me NUTS!!! I really wanted to see him play JVJ!!! I know he'll do a great job in this, though!!
I love how Anastasia will actually wear a traditional Russian court dress complete with with the kokoshnik styled tiara!
That was a great costume to end the show
I have always had a HUGE crush on Dimitri. Now I fear I'll never get over it xD
I just saw this musical today and I was enamored. They had a great mix of new stuff and stuff from the film. It was absolutely stunning and I'm so glad I got the chance to see it. I even got to meet some of the cast and got my playbook signed!
A.M. Hamilton Great to hear i might go see the touring cast in November
Please please please come to the UK, I want to see this so bad!
The scenery in stage looks sooo beautiful
I just love the backdrops! It’s not every day you find a set so elegant
AHHHH ANASTASIA IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE MOVIES AND NOW ITS ON BROADWAY!?!? I say it's about time and am so happy that Anastasia is getting more recognition
Low key upset that bartok and rasputin have been cut out ...
I was too at first but now I am super excited for Gleb as the new villan. :) Plus I think they are going for a touch more realism in the musical compared to the movie.

They're going for a slightly more realistic take, which means Rasputin was murdered two years before the assassination of the Romanov family.

This show looks amazing! The animated movie of Anastasia was my all time favorite as a kid and this musical looks like it's doing it great justice despite some artistic changes! I hope one day I can have the chance to see it live!
Did you get the chance to see it?
@@manuelorozco7760 No, unfortunately not. Maybe one day when it goes on tour!
Leela Celeste Well I saw the tour last year. I thought it was beautiful and even better than the movie
@@manuelorozco7760 That's awesome!!
Leela Celeste Thanks

M T Me too

I loved this play sooooooo much! 😍 It's completely worth it!😍😍
Awesome! I hope this comes to the UK!
Okay, Ramin Karimloo and Derek Klena in the same musical? That's too much, just watching these short videos is making me melt
I had seen Derek Klena in a production of Hairspray once where he played Link!
I'm at a loss for any more tears
I want to go see this so badly!!
I’m so happy I did
Please bring this show to Manila, Philippines so I can die happy thank you
i need to see this musical!! huhu
Omg the characters look exactly the same from the movie haha ♥️♥️♥️
I really want to see this it looks like a beautiful show
Did you get the chance to?
Please film the play and sell it. I won’t be able to see it live and I so want to watch it.
omg dmitry is so gorgeous xD but it's so sad that i live too far away T.T
Already bought my tickets in September!
Let us know how you like it
im flying to america to see this woop woop
I live in Costa Rica, I know the real history, I loved the movie, and I just want to go to New York and see this!!!
Did you get the chance to?
I'm so excited for this to come out! I'm going to die!
I am very happy they replaced Rasputin with this new character. I will take Ramin Karimloo over bugs crawling out of dismembered body parts any day.
He's technically dead before the story starts, plus I thought the way he was portrayed in the film was a little disrespectful.
Isobel Duncan One reason I find this musical superior
please please please tell me this will be going on tour and heading to Louisiana I need to see this gem!!
I'm seeing this in May after seeing Les Mis twice with Ramin twice and a concert performance of the Secret Garden. I think I've seen everything Ramin has done in New York.
How is this so perfect?! This better do well because I have no idea when I can ever go back to New York, and I fully expect a tour. XD
I was just thinking about this yesterday
I want to see this so bad! Sadly live in the Netherlands, so no way I can see it unless I pay A LOT of money.
It will be in Netherland in September :)
THIS CAST LOOKS AMAZING
I want all of these cast in a live action movie!!!
Please come to Los Angeles ASAP!!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Soooooo great 💜💛💜
Wish this was touring in the UK.
the guy playing dmitty is perfect
I saw Derek play Link in a production of Hairspray. One of my old classmates wanted to marry him
Dmitry looks exactly as the cartoon in the movie!
That Dimitri looks like the one in the movie!!! wow
The red dress actually bears the Romanov eagle and I love the way how the team of this musical carefully set up this show by adding small representations of the real-life Romanov family. Too bad I can't see this
You can now. It's on UA-cam
oh my god ramin!? this is perfect
i wanna see this so bad.. i love ramin so much i'm sure this is gonna be a fanstastic musical
please please have anastasia on broadway to singapore or at least have it on DVD/Bluray like they did for miss saigon :( i really want to see the show so bad!
The writers of movie wrote the story for the musical as well you know, which means they *wanted* to change some of the story.
Which I can totally respect and that's the most important reason I'm seeing this new Anastasia whenever it goes on tour.
HOLY CRAP. THAT DMITRY THO
so no Dark of the Night number musical number? :(
All the good shit is on the east coast. I hope they tour it.
masterpiece!
Awwwww I have to go to watch it!!! :D
Wait... I have a little limitation... I live in Spain and I'm poor to travel to USA :'(
IS THAT MY SUE FROM CARRIE THE MUSICAL??!?! _If anyone knows this show, i'll love you forever!_
If I Gave it tony Nominations they Would Be Best Musical, Best Book,Best Original Score, Best Actress, Best Actor , Best Featured Actor for Both John Bolton and Ramin Karimloo, Best Featured Actress for Mary Beth Peil and Caroline O Connor, Best Director, Best Scenic Design, Best Lighting Design, Best Orchestrations Best Costume Design and Best Choreography.
I'm so Happy Ramin is Vlad in this, and that this finally made it to Broadway!
Joanne Denney It’s Gleb
It breaks my heart that I'll never be able to afford to see this
I wish I could see this :(
Did you get a chance?
When will the broadway soundtrack be out?
*Sees Ramin, pause video*
Ooo, just gonna find that little- oh here it is *clicks like button*
I want see this in DVD Or in Netflix
please dvd!!!!!!
YES
If anyone goes to see it live, can you please record it for those who won't be able to? 😂❤
RAMINNNNNN!!!!!! Literally watched this for Ramin tbh
I wish Anastacia would have a live action movie.
I’m open to it as long as the new songs written for this show are included
I really want to see this and hear the cast recording. Will Anya/Anastasia's character be sassy on broadway just like the movie? I won’t go if there’s no sass.

My name is Anya ❤️ and I have a sister named Anastasia and we were adopted from Russia
No way
yessssssssssss
I understand why they made the change. Rasputin was a bit too "magical" in an otherwise realistic (if fictional) story.
When I found about this, I knew I had to see this show.
MY BODY IS READY
Sad about no in the dark of the night but I'm glad that they aren't turning Rasputin into some evil zombie anymore and created an original antagonist. Sad about there being no Bartock.
WAIT.... this is real?! This is happening?!
I need to save up to watch it!!!
