Gleb's hatred is understandable. Nikolai II and Alexandra Feodorovna had committed many crimes against the Russian people (father and mother of Anya). But their children are not to blame. That caused his inner struggle.
This video proves that they should start making animated adaptations of Broadway shows. there's been plenty of animated movies (like Anastasia) turned into musicals, but I'm surprised there isn't anything the other way around. A lot of musicals could work as an animated movie like Cats (Steven Spielberg was even working on one before it was scrapped), Dear Evan Hansen, Jekyll and Hyde, etc.
tbf there's kind of a big thing with cats being or not being animated, not saying it shouldn't be but it was ts Elliot and his family's wish to not have it be turned into something disney-like
the moment where he pulls out the gun and because it’s in the foreground it looks like a rifle really managed to evoke the parallel scenes in the stage show, with his father’s firing squad aiming rifles at the rest of the family. I cried, I got chills, this is incredible !!!
Blue Sky Thinking wow what an interesting observation! I wish I added a reflection of the Bolshevik soldiers in the window. But I’m glad you enjoyed it!
@@KwanJan12Honestly I'm glad you didn't add more Bolshevik soldiers. It makes this scene more personal. This is both of them literally stepping into their fathers shoes.
I'm so sorry but the scene with young Anastasia walking forward towards the gun, with no fear whatsoever that's a power move right there (also very nicely done as well TvT)
1:34. Tatiana’s on the right. She has darker hair than the rest of her sisters, and also her hair is up like Olga’s while Maria’s and Anastasia’s were always worn down. Olga is on the far right, her hair is also up but it’s much lighter than her sister’s. Next to her is Maria, she has dark hair like Tatiana and if you look close enough you can sure what look like a bow in her hair. This is because she often had ribbons and bows in her hair during pictures.
The art style feels perfectly suited for this musical. It has that same kind of vibe as the promotional art and the actual backgrounds in the musical have.
Makes me really wish the original animated film was like this, at least with the villain. Christopher Lloyd was fine as Rasputin but this is more interesting
THIS IS INSANE! Why on earth doesn't this have more attention?! This definitely does that amazing scene justice. The level of detail and the animation both look great, the symbolism used is really good, and that part with the blood gave me chills! This only makes me wish we had some form of Gleb in a movie. But this video more than makes up for it! Great work, and thank you so so much for animating my favourite scene so well!
Cheeky The Monkey thanks so much for your enthusiasm!! Looking back, the animated movie is very unique and good! But it was bogged down by expectations of being like a Disney movie. It worked best as a historical drama and that’s what I tried to do by drawing from both the whimsy of the movie and the historical grounding of the broadway musical.
The use of their reflections was just * chef's kiss * When Gleb turned and saw his bloody face in the window? When Anya looked like little Anastasia? Ooooof! I like how you made Gleb more visibly nervous about his decision and Anya more fierce about it, if that makes sense... It's an entirely different medium than theatre and you really used it to the max with the close ups (Anya's hand!) and the stylization of their "journey to the past". I really really really liked this! Amazing job 💜
When i heard him singing “a revolution is a simple thing” it kind of felt like he meant that “a revolution is inevitable, a simple consequence of the Tsar’s poor leadership” considering how things were going in Russia that time imo. People were suffering from poverty, and then Nikolai II just went forcing them to fight in a meaningless war which did no good to the country.

It would be amazing if done right but most of the recent Broadway->Live Action movies have been subpar. The only one that I love and have basically no complaints about is the 2021 West Side Story which makes me wonder: a Steven Spielberg Anastasia?? That would be amazing. And if they did it soon they could cast some of the same actors.

Thanks! It took me so much time figuring out the space and the flow. If you’ve noticed for most of the short, Anya stayed on the left and Gleb stayed on the right. Only a few times would they cross over but the camera would fix itself to maintain the character’s positions.

@@KwanJan12 A pleasure! I watched the animatic (the Babbles Babbles one) too, and you did an amaaaazing job breathing colour and life into it! 😍😍
This musical would be such a good movie.
It is based off of a movie. If you mean the Musical version of it I'm sorry
This is beautiful! The detail, colors, background. Everything is so well done. This is criminally underrated. I love love love the reflections you added in the windows! I got chills throughout the whole thing.
Well I’m just glad people are enjoying it! It was a chore figuring out each detail and when to be pragmatic. And of course, Babbles Babbles animatic was an important creative source I drew upon!
I just found this and I’m so glad I did. I literally cry almost every single time I hear this part of the musical 🥺
Lily congrats on finding this gem! I really enjoyed listening to how intense this is!
@Lily It makes me legit want to scream along with Gleb and Anya, the INTENSITYYY!!
This is INCREDIBLE! I LOVE how you integrated the real dialogue from the stage production at the end. Wonderful!
Oh my gosh! Probably the best animatronic done for my favourite scene in my favourite musical! 😃
The storyboarding on this is INSANE!!! the different angles are so perfectly done, and the art is gorgeous
Thanks! It took me so much time figuring out the space and the flow. If you’ve noticed for most of the short, Anya stayed on the left and Gleb stayed on the right. Only a few times would they cross over but the camera would fix itself to maintain the character’s positions.
@@KwanJan12 oh wow, I'll definitely rewatch while keeping an eye out for that!! Seriously, brilliant work. You're a wonderful artist
This is amazing!! I was genuinely gasping the entire time!!! Thank u for this!!!!
I’m always over the moon to read about everyone’s reaction to the animated short! I’m glad you felt the intensity of the scene! Thanks for watching!
I am not familiar with the musical, but this animatic moved me to tears regardless. Amazing job!
Holy cow! This gave me chills!! The mix between the amazing vocals and the animation is insanely amazing!!!!
Thanks so much! I was really excited to hear how seamless I made the transition between the soundtrack and live audio!
KwanJan12, it amazes me how similar the animation looks to Chrisy and Ramin. The best I can draw is a stick figure XD. Keep up the great work!!
This made me feel the anxiety all over again! I loved it!
I’m glad you felt the emotional intensity just oozing.
This was such a beautiful animation!! I really love both ur take and Babbles omggggfgg the animations hhhhhhh the expression and the hand movements ahhh and the angles!!!! AHHhHhHHH
AHHH ALSO BRUH THE ART DIRECTION ESPECIALLY THE ENDING AHH
Aw thanks so much! Babbles’ creative direction was an inspiration for where I wanted to take my rendition if the climatic scene. I glad you appreciate the animation I put into it as well! 😁
This is incredible, I’m honestly surprised that this hasn’t gained more of a following over the last couple of months.
SMMHH 0246 I know smh. Haha! But I’m glad people are finding it regardless and loving it!
I’m so sad they didn’t add the “for the last time! Who are you?” In the recording
Yeah there’s a lot that was left off the official soundtrack! Makes it more obvious how much push is given to encourage people to see the shows in person!
Holy crap that was so intense! Amazing imagination and beautiful artwork. The reflections are so well done. Awesome work. Wow.
this needs more views! I can't stop watching!
TEARS what a powerful scene your usage of the window was AMAZING
It was so tricky to animate! It was like coordinating a dance team. But the payoff is great! Thank you for watching!
THIS IS THE BEST ANIMATION I’VE SEEN IN A LONG TIME! YOU ARE SO UNDERRATED!
I appreciate it! Yeah I haven’t done much to advertise this. 😅 but it was so cool to see Ramin Karimloo post about it! Anyway, thanks so much for watching!
OH MY GOSH THIS IS SO SMOOTH???
*HOLY SHIT!!!* This is SO amazing!!! 😭❤️❤️❤️
