Old video but man, the only one I could find that totally explains editing from ground zero. Everything else says it’s for beginners, but then they just start talking about cutting clips out and how to do it… never explaining what a timeline actually is, for example. This is great, thank you!
Just wanted to say thanks for actually sharing information without asking for anything in return. No one wants to help people learn stuff anymore because they want crazy amounts of money for it which is ridiculous. Thanks, man. You're a good dude.
Wow, someone that is willing to speak the language of the newbie. I understood 100% everything you said because of how YOU said it. I will move onto your other videos. Thank you so much!
I know I'm a little late making comments on this video but I just found you and I'm a complete noobie to editing. I just wanted to say that you're a fantastic teacher!
I've been using Microsoft Windows Live Movie Maker, then Vegas, then PowerDirector. Now I'm transitioning to Resolve and this is really helpful. Thanks!
Casey, this is one of your best tutorials for those of us just starting out in video editing. Very straight forward and easy to follow. Love the cooking analogy. Thanks.
Hands down the best introduction to editing I have ever watched. This is what happens when experience match explanation. Thank you Casey for this wonderful video. I just subscribed and hopefully will pay your DaVinci training. Really great stuff.
You are truly an amazing instructor. I know NOTHING of any of this, but when you broke out down to simple terms and showed where what and how you were doing, I felt like I not only unsaid but I can replay and follow along and get something done. Thank you for sharing your vast knowledge in simpler terms for people like me. ❤
I really wanna learn this skill and I've decided to dedicate the next 3 months to learning what I can in that amount of time. Thanks for sharing, it really is MUCH Appreciated!!
You for sure found your calling in this phase of your life. Your presentations are smooth, precise, and confident -- the hallmarks of a professional (professional presenter in this instance). You present in a way that encourages confidence in those learning this material, a skill more rare than most realize. Bottom-line, you are a true standout. I am a TRUE FAN!!!
Been scared and/or lazy learning video editing but this video made it look achievable! I know it's probably the beginning but my confidence has increased. Thanks and I will watch more videos on your channel to hone this new skill.
This is perfect! I had found another tutorial and he went so fast and wasn't explaining what each item was and I tried so hard to follow but I was lost! With this, I just spent 1.5 hours following along and editing my very first video! While it's not professional, it looks a lot better than anything I would have uploaded by myself! And given that my videos will feature a lot of cooking, I loved the analogy! I'm now ready to upload my very first video on youtube tomorrow. THANK YOU!
I've only had time to view a little of your video, but I cannot wait to get back to it as you are great at explaining to a TOTAL NOVICE with tremendous clearity. Finaly, a teacher I an actual follow. Thank you 100%!
Total beginner here......... Davinci free version has been a great tool for getting started sharing my drone videos. Lots of great tutorials and an ongoing learning experience.
TODAY! I'm watching this video because I AM that person: "something something camera and it goes into a computer somehow" and, I _can_ talk in that voice! THANK YOU for this tutorial... I binged a bunch recently in preparation for this new adventure to rebuild my life. And today, you'll ferry me through this first run of a bunch of videos that I produced on my first travel vlog trip last week for my friends, who'll never visit me, because I'm "too far" away. Fingers crossed I have any talent at all...
This is the best beginner Tutorial I've seen yet. Great pacing. All the information you need to get going. Most others I've seen are either so slow, that you can't get yourself to watch through it or too short so you leave still not knowing anything.
Thank you! This is the only video I've found that actually gives details! Please do more of these in depth step by step videos for those of us who are technology challenged.
Wow! I have combed over so many, so called, “beginners videos,” and unable to find anything starting with the basics or easy to comprehend. Thank you so much. I write and now wanting to edit my own projects for more control and to avoid high cost. New follower here
Oh my goodness, i have been scratching my head for the longest time about how to even begin, where to even put the videos let alone how to edit them together. Thank you :)
Man there's a saying that goes if you can't explain it in such a way that a 5 year old understands it then you don't know it well enough. And you just did. Thank you!
I searched for so many "How to Davinici," videos and finally UA-cam decided to show me your content - amazing. Exactly what I needed! Subscribed, watching the next ones now.
Gotta say, I started the official Resolve training videos and was bored almost instantly - 20 minutes spent on meta tags! This is practical, useful, and focused on getting me editing fast :) Thank you.
I have been editing video for several years using Adobe and Cyberlink. I have had Davinci Resolve on my computer for a couple of years but never took the time to learn it...until now. Thanks for these tutorials Casey.
This is the absolute best instruction video I have seen.. I have watched a gazillion that say " editing for beginners from start to finish" and they ALL act and talk as tho a beginner knows most of the things they are not going over lol...so dang confusing.. so thank you for breaking it ALL down for some of us newbies... 👍ps. U now have 1 more subscriber 😊
So I watched this video because I feel like I have no idea what I'm doing. Im using filmora and am doing a lot of this self taught but you've actually given me a lot of reassurance that I'm moving in the right direction. My videos are not perfect by any means but I actually feel pretty confident I can refine what I've been doing and make my creations better. Great video homie.
Thank you. extremely helpful for someone that has never done video editing before. im going to start doing UA-cam videos and was unsure on how to begin with it all. This helps make it feel possible to jump right in and at least get started without feeling lost. Thanks again.
Been looking for a couple weeks for something like this. All other vids pale in comparison, you're doing the lords work with this video. Can't believe it took so long to find something like this. I guess everyone just knows how to video edit these days
update. downloading Davinci and said my drivers aren't updated enough on 18.5 can i download an older version to work. seems like my only option was the newest version. tried downloading different drivers didn't seem to work
This is the third video I've watched on this topic various creators. Not saying I didn't learn something from each, but this one by far is the most helpful, and overall better video. I appreciate it, looking forward to more.
I have tried as kind of mission to make you tube videos from a smartphone. I have access to a great computer microphone etc. But I was fascinated by the simplicity of doing it on a phone...the software I used was pretty good, I used KineMaster. So after watching your tutorial I think I can begin to make much higher quality productions and the best part is the computer simply has more capacity to store the clips , finished product etc. Thanks
Thank you so much for breaking this down and for the ease to follow along. I have watched several other tutorials and was completely overwhelmed. This will help to get my feet wet.
Amazing... great tutorial. I went through this on my system while watching over 2 evenings and trying the settings etc. Now I am not so shy about jumping in.
This is one of THE best intros to editing I’ve seen! Awesome job. I was recently asked about good beginner training videos for editing… so I started searching a bunch here on UA-cam when I came across yours. Enthusiastically, I will be recommending this first! I’ve been following you for a little while and I’m so amazed at your generosity and ability to teach with clarity, comprehensibility and concisely. The marks of a great teacher. Thank you so much for all your work!
Us very beginners like me appreciate you starting from scratch! I like the way you explain things clearly . Such a relief from way too fast paced videos on you tube. Well done 🎊 🎉😊
Excellent basic wrap of editing. Really good breakdown to the basic wording, concepts, organisation, even little storytelling, video/audio combination... its fast, people might have to replay a couple of times - but thats because its packed with information. Good one, compliments!😃
I saw a comment in another video, that Casey favors Ryan Reynolds. Now I cannot stop imagining him, dressed as Deadpool; and these fantastic tutorials are done like him giving a monologue in a movie before whipping out a gun and a sword.
Wanted to get the basic understanding of editing. Some videos paint a broad stroke and give you no actual tutorial. Very happy with this video. Great job.
I am going to be traveling for 2 months to Vietnam in January. Want to video and edit my adventures. This is a great tutorial for someone, like me, who has never done one bit of editing. I am sure this will be easier to follow after i download the software and practice along with your sequences. Thanks for the video!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!! At last an instructional video that makes sense, shows the actual buttons to select on screen, explains exactly what they do and doesn't skip vital steps!! I feel like I can totally do this now!
Thank you for this tutorial. Downloaded DaVinci Resolve yesterday and going through it step by step. Definitely a learning curve but a great start. I appreciate this video.
Thank you so much! As a new tuber and a somewhat tech deficient person, this really helped. Just need to figure out how to speed up a section of video.
Thank you Casey. I've tried to use Resolve, Premier Pro, Vega and Lightworks in the past and I got things done but never thrilled with my results. Decided to use Resolve more and came across a number of your videos as I was looking for help editing. Huge difference between the first video I posted on this channel compared to the latest and a bunch of the editing improvements are thanks to you.
I just came across your videos, and I'm a new fan and subscriber. Your tutorials are concise, easy to understand, and use multiple examples to the techniques you're describing. You also manage scope creep really well, by staying on point and not getting lost in the minutiae of a vast application such as DaVinci Resolve. This was really a great tutorial, and I very much look forward to watching more in-depth content from you. You're really providing an invaluable service. Thank you!
THANK YOU! I'm literally the person you described in the beginning. I'm just starting out and taking my first step into photography/videography as well as post processing and I actually already downloaded Davinci, now just need to learn the basics of how to use it. I'm only half way through your video and already feel I've learned enough to at least get started
Great video mate. Made things easy coming from Premier Pro where I certainly wasn't a Pro. lol. Knowing all the wee icons and shortcuts really make the difference. cheers buddy!
Fantastic Video! thanks for all the help and tips. I've been so scared of video editing software for years and this was hands down the best intro to video editing imo.
Old video but man, the only one I could find that totally explains editing from ground zero. Everything else says it’s for beginners, but then they just start talking about cutting clips out and how to do it… never explaining what a timeline actually is, for example. This is great, thank you!
👍
So true, others are just making videos about editing showing nothing to you!
Just wanted to say thanks for actually sharing information without asking for anything in return. No one wants to help people learn stuff anymore because they want crazy amounts of money for it which is ridiculous. Thanks, man. You're a good dude.

Bless your soul! I had videos and wanted to cry because my old self just couldn't get it. I ruined two of them. I have hope. Thank you so much!
Thanks.
I really love your analogy of cooking/storytelling. It made it really easy to understand.
Hands down the best introduction to editing I have ever watched. This is what happens when experience match explanation. Thank you Casey for this wonderful video. I just subscribed and hopefully will pay your DaVinci training. Really great stuff.
Make a playlist of video editing "Zero to Hero" in Davinci Resolve
Thats just this youtube account?
@@idginfinityduskgames6068 you're right lol

If only all YT tutorials were as clear, no nonsense as yours. Excellent work!
Terrific, clear and seemingly uncomplicated. I know that it can get complex. I’m 70 and will with this start to make my first video.
A cinematic color grading tutorial would help alot, can we get one please?
Learn how to edit properly first?

Oh my goodness, i have been scratching my head for the longest time about how to even begin, where to even put the videos let alone how to edit them together. Thank you :)
This is literally the best video editing tutorial on UA-cam! Understandable and easy to follow without any useless information. Thank you so much man!
Man there's a saying that goes if you can't explain it in such a way that a 5 year old understands it then you don't know it well enough. And you just did. Thank you!

Hi can you do a video on how to install effects to davinci?
I have been editing video for several years using Adobe and Cyberlink. I have had Davinci Resolve on my computer for a couple of years but never took the time to learn it...until now. Thanks for these tutorials Casey.
What a great teacher! Thank you.....
I have seen a lot video editing tutorials before. But I must say that this is by far the best and simplest tutorial ever. Thank You.

This editing video is the best and most simple way to get familiar with the interface ...Thank you
Been looking for a couple weeks for something like this. All other vids pale in comparison, you're doing the lords work with this video. Can't believe it took so long to find something like this. I guess everyone just knows how to video edit these days
Thanks Casey, I have had DaVinci for ages and still come back to this to relearn how to use the basics, Thank you is fantastic...
i've had the hardest time trying to learn these video editing videos. this is by far the best one out there. i've watched a million!!! thankyou!
update. downloading Davinci and said my drivers aren't updated enough on 18.5 can i download an older version to work. seems like my only option was the newest version. tried downloading different drivers didn't seem to work
you need to put the updated driver link along with this. I finally found it but not without grief
Literally the first 10 minutes Taught me so much Thanks for not making a 1 hour video with like 40 mins of talking
This is the third video I've watched on this topic various creators. Not saying I didn't learn something from each, but this one by far is the most helpful, and overall better video. I appreciate it, looking forward to more.

Casey, thank you so much! I have terabytes of amazing footage from all over the world that's just sitting there. I can finally do something about it.
Best beginner video out of all I've seen so far. Some tend to overwhelm new learners, but this is just right. Thanks, and subbed!
It really worked for me after I look and try some tutorials, yours is the one that worked. Owe you a lot.
Perfectly made mate. I have been looking Davinci tutorial for while and finally got you after Kevin Stratvert recommended your channel.
I just wanted to say thank you for this one of the best instructional videos I have ever watched. So easy and well put together.
Great video mate. Made things easy coming from Premier Pro where I certainly wasn't a Pro. lol. Knowing all the wee icons and shortcuts really make the difference. cheers buddy!
Thank you Casey!!!!! Now I'm feeling confident in my editing!🔥
Much needed video for those of us that have never edited video. Thank you!!
Perhaps the best one I have seen, thanks Casey for sharing.
your ability to teach something so complex and make it so simple has saved my sanity!!!!! welcome to my Christmas card list 🤣😁
Well said Casey , it does not matter which application we work, its the art and understanding the story from the point of view director
Casey is just perfect for this job!
God bless you richly! ❤
