Jude Law Breaks Down His Most Iconic Characters | GQ - Розваги
GQ i am fuming right now how dare you just skip over the cinematic masterpiece that is the holiday
it is a holiday staple for me!
@captain_ahab how can you hate jack black? Its my most favorite character of him
Its in Vanity fair, he talks about the holiday
Yuupp. The music is so amazing, i honestly watch in 3 times a year.
@@howler9503 yeh he can be sorta annoying at times, but he is so precious in the holiday. love every bit of that movie
His performance in "The Talented Mr Ripley" is tremendous and should have won him the Oscar.
Everyone should have a talent
Agreed. I would have loved to see him win for Cold Mountian too. Though losing out to Sean Penn for Mystic River isn't a bad thing. Either way I don't think the other could feel robbed.
he did win the Oscar
@@michaelpierce3264 Sean Penn did.
Agreed, he played the snobby rich kid so well
Gattaca is still a criminally underrated sci-fi movie.
It really is a sci-fi gem.
My science teacher in high school would have his new batch of seniors watch it every year, so when my grade got to it we were excited. He'd said watching it made him cry every time, and it totally did.
Who says it is underrated?
criminal... its murder how underrated
@@michaelwayneosborn4114 now really. Why do you say it is underrated? It is hailed as one of the best scifis ever.
30 minutes of Jude Law speaking...this is my new form of meditation.
Same... ))) Everything is Sooo Incredible about Jude Law...
That realistic crack on Dickie G's head with the oar and the reaction was so realistic my jaw literally dropped when I saw it in the cinema. Masterpiece of a film.
Movie violence never really makes me feel anything but that scene in Ripley is one of the most realistic and shocking scenes I’ve ever seen in a movie. So well done and unexpected
That scene freaked me out 😵 Such a great movie with great actor's.
Really. It was so graphic it almost made me sick. I had to stop watching after that.
I have never watched the movie yet... only to notice the scene on this. w.t.f. It was too realistic. *WHACK* (at least 2.5 seconds later) blood flows! SHOCK ENSUES
I showed that movie to my wife (who crushes hard for Jude Law) a few months ago without any hint of what kind of movie it would be, just waiting to see how she'd react to the boat scene.
@@rossbooth4635 haha… so how did she react?
Gattaca really is such a treasure - I wish it had more recognition but it does feel like those who know, know. I'm happy to see that Jude speaks highly of it, knows of it's importance and talks about playing a paraplegic man.
Both him and Ethan Hawk were great. So was Uma Thurman. Wish they would make more movies like these. Instead of the CGI filled crap that are made for teenagers.
His camera must be terrible. Just look at the wall behind him.
@@theviewer102 Excactly. Moon and Caché were the last ones I watched which had quality.
he did a great job in that film. you really feel the regret and frustration but also brilliance and intelligence of his character.
The Talented Mr Ripley is such a great film. And it's aged incredibly well! It looks gorgeous and the cast give perfect performances.
It has a very memorable, underappreciated score too.
He was perfectly cast as Dickie, so charming.
Dangerously beautiful indeed.
Even the clothes Dickie wore deserved an award
The director said only a Brit could play that type of rich collegiate in the 50's.
one of the best casting jobs in the industry for sure
Am I missing something or did they forgot "Enemy at the Gates" the movie about the infamous Russian sniper Vasily Zaytsev?!
This is one of the best Law's roles he played!
That's crazy it's literally the first movie that comes to my mind when I hear about Jude Law
I don't know. Yeah, Jude Law, Joseph Feinnes, Kiera Knightly, Bob Hoskins. They're all brilliant, they always are. The battle of Stalingrad, the sniper battle within. All true. But better than "Ripley?"
He mentioned it very briefly, I thought he would talk about it later
Jude Law: I'm gonna put the webcam against these pictures, they'll make a nice background
GQ: Ight! we gotta blur them pics
Haha right I was just thinking that! Poor Jude, it looked like a nice set up too! 😅
Love to know what those pics were, that they had to blur them out

Jude in the movie Wilde as Oscar Wilde's lover in the movie was so pretty.
So true!👏👏
@@rumblefish9 a powerful film
Jude Law and Phillip Seymour Hoffman created an incredibly great privileged pair in The Talented Mr. Ripley.
"How's the peeping, Tommy? How's the peeping?"
people notice too much nowadays if other people are privileged or not
@staircase2 is that not true? I mean we are living in a second gilded age, its to be expected.

I was expecting his comments on Alfie. Such an underrated role. My favorite movie of him.
And enemy at the gates.
unfortunately he himself didn't like "Alfie", which is why you won't hear him talk about it 😮
@@Ninaofthe90s What problem did he have with it?
I hated the story line of Alfie; but, thought he was rich in doing a reprieve to Michael's original.
It needed an update; and, it was so relevant in the time.
I love so much that film is a shame he didn't talk about it
I can’t believe he didn’t talk about The Holiday
He talked about it on vanity fair video @xxAlexixx88
It's pretty lightweight material.
@@steveconn I don't think it is.
Whenever he did talk about it, it's clear he's very fond of the movie and said that out of all the movies he has made "The Holiday" is the movie people mention to him the most. Because it means a lot to them.
It's just a fantastic movie. And so much more than just a romantic comedy. I mean...even Hans Zimmer made one of his greatest scores for this.
@@Ninaofthe90s It's basically a yuppie fantasy house-swap holiday film.
What about the Oscar Wilde film?
Even his voice is still gorgeous. Thank you, Jude. You are still wonderful. Don't stop.
I was hoping to hear about how he and a couple other actors stepped in to play Heath Ledgers role in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.
We're the others Johnny Depp & Colin Farrell?
@@samanthab1923 Yes.
Especially when the three of them donated their wages to Matilda, Heath’s daughter
He's already talked about that.
In fact, he was quite insightful and tender about moving the entire horrid circumstance beyond the loss of Heath and on to getting the film finished---for the love of the art, the story, the director; and, the love for Heath.
Yeah, and Sleuth, Existenz, and Enemy at the Gates. He's among my absolute favorites
Served him drinks once , really nice guy.
Bartender's dream (worth the thousands of useless drunks).
That's cool to hear actually
where was it?
he bought breakfast at a cafe where i was working, will never forget this blue eyes. i was soo shaky, i could barely take the 5 pound note he gave me

@@IndianaJones1219 doesn't make much sense to be bald when he's playing young dumbledore...
also he looks absolutely amazing like this.
@Nelson Gonzalez dafuk hes already bald. I suppose u meant he did it when he was young?
He still is so handsome
The Talented Mr. Ripley is one of my favourite movie of all time. I love everyone in it.
He was so good in Gattaca and also The Talented Mr. Ripley. He just seemed so real in both roles.
Jude Law is such an amazing actor. I saw him on stage years ago in Henry V and as soon as he entered the stage, you could just feel his power and charisma. Henry 5 is a difficult role, and he did it justice. And I think he’s even sexier now at 50, with his receding hairline and grey beard , than when he was younger.
Yes, I agree, I also saw him as Henry V as part of the Grandage season. He was also wonderfully charismatic in "Anna Christie" in the tiny Donmar. Only about 200 seats so we were all very close to the actors.
I don’t understand how a balding head can be sexier than a full head of hair, but maybe he looks more approachable now.
Closer is such an underrated movie. Feel like nobody talks about it.
I absolutely love Closer. All 4 of the main characters give excellent performances. I've never seen another movie that dealt with relationships, infidelity, love, and heart break better.
AGREE!

Jude Law. What an artist, an entertainer, a storyteller. Kudos, Jude! Kudos!

He talks about the movie in a Vanity Fair video
Gattaca is a masterpiece. Is still my favorite movie to this day. Jude Law and Ethan Hawks are just brilliant. The plot is amazing... I mean... Pure love.
They should have mentioned his role as Bosie in Wilde - Law's performance really put him on the map as an actor. He was brilliant.
Yeah there's always some bizarre omissions in these actor career interviews and that definitely should've been included as could Alfie have been considering it was a remake even if not a great one. I also wish he'd done enemy at the gates as that muddy cold environment must've been intense.
Philip Seymour Hoffman stood out in that brief role, in 'The Talented Mr Ripley'...
Freddie!

R R You're right. Any of those early movies of his. Gattaca & even Midnight in the Garden of .....,
I also loved his role in Road to Perdition. Genuinely one of the creepiest movie characters ever.
There's a very clammy feeling to his character. Kind of hunched over and lethal.
Yes! He was so good in that. Such a good but sad film
One of my favorite movies, is so underrated. And Jude Law was so creepy, amazing performance by everyone, off course Tom Hanks and Paul Newman, but Jude Law and specially Daniel Craig were incredible.
The scene where he follows Tom Hanks into the diner is so creepy. You’re hanging on the edge of your seat, waiting to see how things will unfold, because you know Jude Law’s character, Harlan, is up to no good. When he describes his profession to Tom Hanks’ character, Michael Sullivan, it immediately creeps you out.
I don't know why but it still shocks me just how articulate and well versed this guy actually is
True
It’s almost like his job is to read a lot of dialogue and to speak it out coherently.

@@antoineceolin5861 it's not that underrated...it was nominated for 5 academy awards and Jude Law won the bafta for best supporting actor. It was nominated for more than 30 awards and it made Jude Law a huge star. It also made more than 100 million dollars - which is huge for a movie like this. There are other movies that don't even get nominated because no one really knows about them and they weren't financially successful either. This movie is not one of them.
Cold Mountain is one of my all time favorite movies. Acted so well by everyone. Beautiful story with a backdrop of pure nightmare. Emotional rollercoaster of a movie.
I just watched that Film recently and I really Agree with that.. Jude is Killing on that Character

DumbleDAMN as some would say.
He really resembles Jared Harris now.
Yes, I noticed that too. And I'm pleased about it. He is my favourite Dumbledore's actor (including Harry Potter movies).
I didn't think about that! So it has to do w/ the movie!?
Closer was excellent. So honest about relationships. His downward look when Clive said he effed Natalie spoke volumes ("So this is how life is").
He should've won so many awards for The Young Pope. Wonderful performance.
Fun fact that I’m surprised Jude himself didn’t mention. When he was 19, he had a very minor role in one of the episodes of the old Grenada Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes series. He was in Shoscombe Old Place and played a character called Joe Barnes.
the only Sherlock Holmes that I respect.
