Yes! It's one of the actors you feel he puts something beyond just the acting. Every time I see one of his performances, I think he "just gets the character", like he understands them in a very real way, so it never feels he's acting on screen (if that ever makes sense).
What he said about the Priest and Fleabag not needing to know each other's backstories to form a genuine connection, or even the audience being able to connect with the Priest without knowing his story either.... blew me away. It's comforting to know that he's aware of the Priest's impact that's not relevant to his hot looks.
That's charisma for you. The word gets tossed around a lot but there are only a few people over whose heads you could pull a paper bag and you'd still get hit with that presence.
I met Andrew at the height of his Sherlock fame, in 2015, at a convention, and he was so so lovely going out of his way to be friendly and down to earth, I am so glad he just keeps reaching bigger and bigger heights.
I wonder how he dealt with the fame in Sherlock, he always struck me as someone who would gladly spend his life doing low key shows or acting in theater away from the spotlights, just for the pure joy of acting.
Andrew Scott is one of those actors that exhibits this beautifully vulnerability and pathos like he is allowing the audience to be guided into the souls of his characters. His work in Handsome Devil and Pride is sublime work
I’m currently losing my Dad to terminal cancer and watching All of Us Strangers absolutely broke me. Such a fantastic film that really hits home. Andrew plays the part perfectly, there is never enough time with the people you love.
GQ so real for including Hamlet in this video. I've seen many a Hamlet in my life and there has been nobody who has even come close to the performance that Andrew Scott gave in that role.
Totally agree with this. I really 'got' the meaning of so much of Hamlet for the first time just from the way Andrew spoke the words. It is like he translated them into the modern way of understanding. I really understood the 'to be or not to be' monologue in a way I never had before. He is a truly incredible performer.
I have Pride listed as one of my favourite movies ever and get a lot of flack for that because there's not anything particularly groundbreaking about it. No flashy cinematography, no method actors losing themselves physically and emotionally in a role, no amazing monologues that have millions of views on UA-cam, but, everything is done perfectly. The script is expertly written, the cast acts their parts perfectly, the direction is assured and confident, and each story beat hits where it's supposed to hit. I've seen that film 25x easily, and I'll easily watch it 25 more.
The scene when the wives sing Bring Us Bread and Roses being me to tears EVERY TIME I watch it. It could easily be overly sentimental or saccharine, but it's a beautiful performance of a gorgeous song and is just so perfectly done! It's a simple story, but masterfully told
He's devastatingly perfect in "All of Us Strangers". Keeping fingers crossed he pulls off an Oscar nomination; it would be a completely earned nomination.
Alas, All of Us Strangers was completely shut out of the Oscars. Director/writer Andrew Haigh and lead actor Andrew Scott -- not to mention Paul Mescal, Claire Foy and Jamie Bell -- all deserve recognition for their stellar work in an incredibly moving film.
If anyone wants to watch Andrew in a one man short film, and see him be completely captivating and heartbreaking, look up Sea Wall. Utterly incredible how he can embody the entirety of a character.
Such a wonderful performer. And the way he speaks about his characters is so captivating... I wish there was a similar interview about Andrew's theatre roles.
Absolutely love the way he articulates his thoughts on these roles, so relaxed and eloquent. He seems to carry around the same laidback aura as his Fleabag character. Describing Hamlet as a "jug to pour the actor's personality into" was brilliant.
I would love to see Andrew Scott and Phoebe Waller Bridge in another project again. They have such incredible chemistry on screen. And preferably, with a happy ending, please!
In his role in 1917 Andrew Scott also proved, once again - that there are no small parts. He has so little screentime in that movie, but he was absolutely spell-binding as the disgruntled, disillusioned, Lt. Leslie.
I do love the way how he expresses himself and how thoughtful he explains what he does. I haven't watched any of his movies (yet) but he is someone to you enjoy to listen to. I mean his personality is great.
I’m proud to say my 25 year old son’s name is Andrew Scott. I wish I could say I named him after this Andrew Scott. I love him as an actor. He’s humble and just adorable 🥰
Of course he didn’t write the lines, but it was his work that brought the lines to life. If it wasn’t for his amazing interpretation of the character on the show it would not have had this impact on fans of the genre.
I finally watched Sherlock and it's the first role I saw him in ( I know.. I am behind on most things), but I'm a bit obsessed now. Really excited to see and watch his career. I can't get enough!
He’s super skilled. Just finished RIPLEY and he’s very good. First time I noticed him was in 1917. As I was watching I was in awe how many layers his character had; even if it required 30+ takes
Fascinating look at Andrew Scott’s work so far. Incredibly informative, insightful and warm segment. We need more Andrew Scott in the world in general. As a genuine compliment, his vocal tones are like an Irish James Mason.
His performance in Black Mirror was the first time I’ve ever seen him (later realised he’s been in Sherlock) he’s absolutely terrific and seems so wonderful ❤
I would also point out that Andrew and Tom Hardy are both phenomenal in the movie Locke. If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it. Meticulously crafted and just incredible acting from everyone. 👍
Was he in the Band of Brothers movie playing soldier Hall or something like that? The role wasn’t super big but very memorable! That series is so awesome and every soldier in that touch your heart.
What an excellent actor and brilliant person. Would've liked to have hear him speak about Edgar in King Lear, he was so compelling and empathetic in that role.
Andrews Portrayal of Jim Moriarty is so important to me, sounds really weird I know But I’ve been aware of Sherlock BBC for like four or five years, and I have finally found the time to watch Sherlock BBC completely, took around seventeen hours and I didn’t sleep for 33 hours(Btw I’m typing this after I have slept, so I have caught up with the sleep I missed now) And my love for acting and my wish to be an Actor has always existed but it has so much intensified since seeing the character Moriarty. Have a good day, anyone who is reading this :)
A fantastic actor on both screen and stage. I agree with what he said about pride, if you haven't seen it you must. One of my favourite films because it is just stunning AND a true story. I actually watched the film because I was a fan of Andrew and I ended up loving it for so many other reasons. It's such a comfort film
I am truly loving hearing Andrew speak about All of Us Strangers in the company of Paul Mescal…and this rundown of some of the roles he has played is illuminating…and means there are several I must catch up with. 🐑🐑🇳🇿🇳🇿NZ
"PRIDE" definitely was an amazing film, and Andrew Scott remains a memorable actor from that film. I also think he is intelligent, yet scary, as Moriarty in SHERLOCK. I think he makes the character real, whereas in the stories, Moriarty does sound more cartoon-ish.
I first saw him on Sherlock as Moriarty and he gave my favorite portrayal of that character. Then I saw him in Fleabag (yes, a very sexy priest!) and His Dark Materials, plus a clip of him onstage as Hamlet. Excellent actor and wonderful voice too.
I stood next to him at the tube station for 5 minutes with nobody else around. He was wearing just a vest and very short shorts, retro gym style! I couldn’t muster up the courage to say hello and ask for a photo with him. As soon as he got on the tube a couple immediately started bombarding him. He was very gracious and I quietly kicked myself for being ‘too polite’ to invade his privacy. He was quite the sight for sore eyes ❤
Sherlock was my first experience of Andrew Scott. His performance blew me out of the water. Never seen Moriarity portrayed in that manner. Check out his Hamlet, absolutely unique take on the character
I am currently watching the new Ripley adaptation on Netflix and yeah that role definitely belongs on this list too. I loved him from Sherlock but he stunned me yet again
He terrified me when he played Moriarity. Anything I have seen him play is done with such intelligence and depth.
Yes! It's one of the actors you feel he puts something beyond just the acting. Every time I see one of his performances, I think he "just gets the character", like he understands them in a very real way, so it never feels he's acting on screen (if that ever makes sense).
omggg i was terrified too. eurus was a different level of mental genius
He was scary but also hilarious too. He balanced that so well
Equally brilliant is his role as O'Brien in Audible's podcast 1984
Just saw “ Vanya” spectacular. As always.
What he said about the Priest and Fleabag not needing to know each other's backstories to form a genuine connection, or even the audience being able to connect with the Priest without knowing his story either.... blew me away.
It's comforting to know that he's aware of the Priest's impact that's not relevant to his hot looks.
Andrew Scott is the kind of actor that you cannot not look at. I literally mean it, his eyes are so captivating.
I will gladly look at him forever, just sayin.
He's Mandusa!
That's charisma for you. The word gets tossed around a lot but there are only a few people over whose heads you could pull a paper bag and you'd still get hit with that presence.
Had the pleasure of seeing him 2x on stage and he is simply breathtaking and has a way of inhabiting a scene that I have not see in other actors
@@anniikkamesmerizing
He speaks so poetically and truthfully about such a range of phenomena.
Lucky
Andrew as Moriarty is one of the best things I’ve ever seen
True!
I'm really glad that he talks about Pride here. Such an underrated masterpiece.
My favourite film of all time, and he was incredible in it
I'd never heard of it! Just put it on my list-sounds really interesting.
I absolutely love that film
Andrew Scott is one of those actors that exhibits this beautifully vulnerability and pathos like he is allowing the audience to be guided into the souls of his characters. His work in Handsome Devil and Pride is sublime work
Not to mention All of Us Strangers!
I’m currently losing my Dad to terminal cancer and watching All of Us Strangers absolutely broke me. Such a fantastic film that really hits home. Andrew plays the part perfectly, there is never enough time with the people you love.
One of the BEST actors of this generation. He elevates everything he’s in.
I could listen to him talk about his artistic views on acting all day.
andrew scott and david tennant are two phenomenal well rounded actors that simply deserve more attention
Andrew Scott you will always be the most fabulous Moriarty. 🥺
GQ so real for including Hamlet in this video. I've seen many a Hamlet in my life and there has been nobody who has even come close to the performance that Andrew Scott gave in that role.

Intersectionality
Agreed. It's a amazing film that just tells the story so well that i can watch it over and over and not get bored.
The scene when the wives sing Bring Us Bread and Roses being me to tears EVERY TIME I watch it. It could easily be overly sentimental or saccharine, but it's a beautiful performance of a gorgeous song and is just so perfectly done!
It's a simple story, but masterfully told
It's one of the very few movies that I can watch time and time again, and keep on loving it.
And that it’s a true story
He has such a calming relaxing voice
Andrew Scott - Treasure.. such depth & variety and he makes it looks so easy.. What a talent.. Legend !!!
Brilliant performer. A true craftsman.
could listen to him talk for hours honestly, what a man!
He's devastatingly perfect in "All of Us Strangers". Keeping fingers crossed he pulls off an Oscar nomination; it would be a completely earned nomination.
Alas, All of Us Strangers was completely shut out of the Oscars. Director/writer Andrew Haigh and lead actor Andrew Scott -- not to mention Paul Mescal, Claire Foy and Jamie Bell -- all deserve recognition for their stellar work in an incredibly moving film.
will forever love him in sherlock, "i will burn the heart out of you" WOOF thats a good line and made even better by the amazing execution of scott
If anyone wants to watch Andrew in a one man short film, and see him be completely captivating and heartbreaking, look up Sea Wall. Utterly incredible how he can embody the entirety of a character.
And Vanya
This is maybe the coolest interview I’ve ever seen. What a person. Great job
He is so intelligent! Emotionally, physically, intellectually, wow. And he seems to be a really lovely person to boot. Wonderful actor and human being
Such a wonderful performer. And the way he speaks about his characters is so captivating... I wish there was a similar interview about Andrew's theatre roles.
Andrew is absolutely one of my favourite actors. His episode of Black Mirror is phenomenal.
Absolutely love the way he articulates his thoughts on these roles, so relaxed and eloquent. He seems to carry around the same laidback aura as his Fleabag character. Describing Hamlet as a "jug to pour the actor's personality into" was brilliant.

I love him dearly. Such a talent, such a human being.
In his role in 1917 Andrew Scott also proved, once again - that there are no small parts.
He has so little screentime in that movie, but he was absolutely spell-binding as the disgruntled, disillusioned, Lt. Leslie.
Andrew Scott is the one person who makes Shakespearean text seem natural and easy
I have fallen head over heels for this man.
I do love the way how he expresses himself and how thoughtful he explains what he does. I haven't watched any of his movies (yet) but he is someone to you enjoy to listen to. I mean his personality is great.
Their connection in Fleabag is one of the best ones on screen ❤ touch me every time
A great actor on screen, and I am sure that he is best seen live on stage!
I’m proud to say my 25 year old son’s name is Andrew Scott. I wish I could say I named him after this Andrew Scott. I love him as an actor. He’s humble and just adorable 🥰
Been a fan since they released Sherlock season 2. I'm glad he's recognized around the world now for his talent!
I quote moriarty lines on a daily basis in my head because i adore his portrayal of the character in sherlock so much.
He didn't write it
Of course he didn’t write the lines, but it was his work that brought the lines to life. If it wasn’t for his amazing interpretation of the character on the show it would not have had this impact on fans of the genre.
I don't think that will happen because Cillian's performance was incredible, BUT this man really deserves an Oscar
Putting Spectre on the thumbnail is disrespectful to the impeccable resume of this man
Andrew Scott has my heart with everything I have seen him in… he is sich a great actor and seems genuinely like a good guy❤
I f**king LOVED him as Moriarty! Nobody else could have portrayed that character better than Andrew. You'll never change my mind x
His Black Mirror was the one that stood out. The freek out scene was great.
His hamlet! Just stunning work
Fascinating look at Andrew Scott’s work so far. Incredibly informative, insightful and warm segment. We need more Andrew Scott in the world in general. As a genuine compliment, his vocal tones are like an Irish James Mason.
Andrew is such a brillant man, I admire him so much for his work and for his thoughtful, funny, gentle personality ❤
He is mesmerizing even in the smallest role...watch "Catherine by Birdy" and "Pursuit of Love".
How can I watch pursuit of love
His performance in Black Mirror was the first time I’ve ever seen him (later realised he’s been in Sherlock) he’s absolutely terrific and seems so wonderful ❤
Favourite actor of all time. Loved this. He is brilliant. 👏👏👏♥️
His small role in 1917 was tremendous and awesome. 3 years of cynicism and despair pictured in one person
@Andrewscottheactor Thank you for your kind words!
One of the best actors working right now.
Andrew's Moriarty was truly such an iconic villain and the way he portrayed him MADE that show in so many ways.
The scariest Moriarty! What an amazing actor!
he is clearly SUCH a good actor, even when hes just talking about it you can realise that
I would love to see his Hamlet in full one day. The clips of his monologue looks intriguing.
It's available in full plenty of places have the recording
I would also point out that Andrew and Tom Hardy are both phenomenal in the movie Locke. If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it. Meticulously crafted and just incredible acting from everyone. 👍
Who does Andrew play?
@@tylerwhitney3443 he plays the voice of Donnell, Ivan's second who drank the cider and took over the pour.
So glad someone else has seen and appreciates this superb movie.
Was he in the Band of Brothers movie playing soldier Hall or something like that? The role wasn’t super big but very memorable! That series is so awesome and every soldier in that touch your heart.
Yep early on in the series. It was full of young actors who went on to great careers. I rewatched recently, and had great fun spotting them
Andrew is a special man and an incredible actor. A unique and wonderful talent. All of his work is deeply impressive.
i could listen to his voice all day
Pride is my favourite film ever, would recommend it everyone!
i never "got" shakespeare till i saw andrew scott's monologue years ago!
He’s outstanding in everything I’ve seen him in and I was lucky enough to see his Hamlet in London back then. So brilliant!
Ive always admired this actors work
i love love love his Moriarty, he was just brilliant in Sherlock (as everything was in that show)
This guy will make a really good Ripley, I just hope the series measures up. Magnificent actor.
Another of the many great actors who appeared in Band of Brothers
he's such a good actor
What an excellent actor and brilliant person. Would've liked to have hear him speak about Edgar in King Lear, he was so compelling and empathetic in that role.
To me, I have to stop and pay attention every time I see Andrew Scott and Rory Kinnear acting.
They are amazing actors
My dad was his accountant during Sherlock and I now have a signed Sherlock box set 😁
Andrews Portrayal of Jim Moriarty is so important to me, sounds really weird I know

I saw him in Sherlock and immediately loved his work. He played the character of Moriarty so well, it was terrifying but also very fascinating.
Oh man, I wish I could have seen Andrew's run in Hamlet.
was a bit of long-shot that he’d speak about handsome devil, but it’s one of my favorite films and i loved his performance in it
A fantastic actor on both screen and stage. I agree with what he said about pride, if you haven't seen it you must. One of my favourite films because it is just stunning AND a true story. such an underrated actor. brilliant.
Not underrated anymore. 🙂

Just binge watched Ripley....O>M>G>.....intoxicating.
Him in catherine by birdie made my fall in love with him. Thr charecter is sooooo problematic but also endearing and he's portrayed it soo well
I stood next to him at the tube station for 5 minutes with nobody else around. He was wearing just a vest and very short shorts, retro gym style! The part about Fleabag should've been 1 hour long. Loved every bit of this vid!
The first thing I ever saw him in was Band of Brothers . For me he will always be Private Hall.
Brilliant actor. Glad he's getting his flowers.
"You should see me in a crown" best line ever.
He was amazing in that episode of Foyle's War "The Hide."
They should've included John Parry from His dark materials
Andrew Scott is what would happen if a magical spell turned a cookie into a human being.
he's just gorgeous and oh so talented
I'm in love with him and this shirt. He looks amazing.
I wanna see him in so much more
I am currently watching the new Ripley adaptation on Netflix and yeah that role definitely belongs on this list too. I loved him from Sherlock but he stunned me yet again
andrew scott: look up from your screen
me: not while you’re on it
