had a strange dream about a month ago, filled with clips and bit from various video games. The end of the dream was where I was brought to the office of bad guy (Dafoe), a business mogul, but the me in the dream was very scared. He sat behind a desk with an inhaler in front of him. He was telling me that he asked me to come in so that he could discuss my behaviour. Someone out of sight on my right whispered "Does he need the inhaler to be fast?" I whispered back "No, but he does it anyway". Dafoe's stops talking and freezes for a second, then he slowly picks up the inhaler and uses it. He blinks and then the revolver is pressed against my forehead without him apparently moving. "The trial period is over." There is the sound of a shot and I wake up sweating and shaking. Dafoe up close as a gangster type villain can be frightening.
One of my favorite quotes is attributed to him. Allegedly when asked about playing a hero vs. playing a villain he said "Good guys, bad guys--it doesn't matter. Everybody thinks they're righteous."
Such an extremely talented man! I had the pleasure of meeting him years ago when I was working at a mall in Maine. He spoke to me for about 25 minutes and was so gracious and kind.
I love how he talks about his role in Finding Nemo with such love and talked about the process of finding Gil's voice. He truly never phones in a performance. Some actors I find belittle voice acting sometimes, or not giving it their best efforts
A lot of that is the pay. In live-action filming, you're paying for a famous face. Voice acting is worth considerably less because the famous face is never seen.
"Ah, this is easy too. Sorry." 4:17 Yes, I officially love this man now. The fact that he sounded like he was bragging and then immediately realized it and apologized (and laughed at himself) is completely endearing and says a lot about the kind of person he really is!
He’s so well spoken, calm and relaxed as he lights up with every personal story he tells. What a beautiful array of versatility in his work, he can play any role and it becomes his own. Love his stories!
i love dafoe cause he treats every single role he's had like it's a part of him. he cherishes all he's done no matter how big or small the role was. he's great.
The way that he went into the character of Gil from Finding Nemo like it was a live action character, really shows his dedication to the craft. One of my favorite actors.
His face tells soo much.. not a single frown line but his face is well-defined from a lifetime of smiling.. It’s such a wonderful attribute to a man who seems to be wonderful to his core.
I love so many of this man's characters it's so rare to get someone who can play the hero, the joker and the villain with such substance and succulence.
In my opinion I think Willem Dafoe is up there with the best of them. You can tell he has true and real passion for what he does just hearing him talk. Just a solid dude who deserves all the praise in the world.
One of the greatest. If he's in your movie, the film instantly gets better. Also, what a wholesome guy he is. It's a joy to just watch him talk and how much he loves his craft.
One of my favorites roles of his is of the manager from The Florida Project. He was so real and relatable in that situation, very impressive performance.
My heart hurt a little when he missed the Boondocks Saints quote, but admittedly that line was surrounded by far more quality quotes. Had he read the line directly after, done deal. This was a joy to watch.
He reminds me of the old men you get sitting at cafés in rural France. His face, his body language, his personality. He just feels like the living embodiment of the saying "I'm a lover, not a fighter".
Outside of being a most wonderful actor, I think the thing that I appreciate about him the most is seeing his absolute joy in performing. Regardless of the role it's a contagious enthusiasm for loving truly loving what he does.
What a gentleman and a humble human, at no time was it a name drop or humble brag...could listen to Willlem all day talk about anything. Love to meet him, shake his hand and thank him for all the entertainment over the years.
It's absolutely criminal that Willem Dafoe of all actors hasn't gotten an Oscar yet. God only knows he deserves it for all the work he's put into these films.

Willem Dafoe really is one of the best actors in the world. And his memory! He's been in so many movies and only missed two! I can't remember what I had for lunch yesterday and this guy remembers small lines from 30-40 years ago! Holy $hit! I really have to have a Dafoe marathon now!

One of the few actors' voices that are just so warming... that I could just listen to and enjoy. He is for me on the same level as Attenborough, Morgan Freeman, and James Earl Jones.
This man is one of the greats. I could listen to him talk about his profession all day. It comes from a genuine place and it gives me hope for the future of cinema.
He's the very definition of an actor, not (just) an entertainer. What a genuine and humble man. He's passionate about his artistry, about the material he's working with and it shines through via his whole personality. He deserves the highest respect and admiration.
Oh my gosh, first time I see any interview with this actor, and I must admit so I only had his impression as of the characters he had played, often villains. Here when I see his smile, I see he smiles with his entire face, eyes and face. Such a warm charming gentle personality it seems. I love this.
This is a man who’s taken lessons from everything he’s been involved in, and it really shows. Too many actors are focused on the grandeur to learn, but Dafoe grows from his movies and they make him humble.
I had chills when he reprised green goblin in the new spiderman, what an impactful performance, sends chills down your spine. Reminds you of what a real villain looks like.
you can just see, he loves his trade...and because of that, it shows in his work. Huge and long time fan. Thank you for the days and days worth of movies...its probably weeks and weeks.
He has played so many twisted characters but so wholesome in real life. That's why I absolutely love his the Florida project performance. It's a shame he didn't win Oscar for it.
I do believe he would've took that role to unbelievable places, I think there is still time to play the Joker but if the character pops up in a more mature role as age is the issue but could he play the joker when he's old in any point of a Batman story, absolutely. But your point is that nail on the head he would've been absolutely fabulous in that role.
What a brilliant actor. He is a master at recreating his character and gives them more life. I own alot of his movies and have been able to obtain 5 photo autographs from some of those movies.
Oh my gosh, this interview could have gone even longer! I was riveted from the beginning. Just like watching him in a movie. He is mesmerizing. And, his love of the art of acting and describing each movie so thoroughly was really beautiful to watch.
I could listen to Mr. Dafoe speak about his career all day. The stories, I'm sure he can tell. It was great to see him reminis about some of his past parts. I've seen him play a lot of characters over the years and every time I was amazed by the performance. Thanks William and thanks to the interviewers/production crew. Bravo.
Even though he deserves half a dozen Oscars, he's humble enough to accept that he loves his work without the awards. He's one of the most diverse and engaging actors out there. I've always been a fan, keep making great films Willem.
Ever since Platoon and Deer Hunter I made sure to never miss a Dafoe flick. Real Brilliance. I have a group of 3 friends that saw boondock saints when it came out and all these years later we still joke around using his lines from that movie. Real legend. Thanks for all your work.
My favorite Willem Dafoe role is in the 1986 movie Platoon as Elias. That was the first time I saw him. After that he almost always played the heavy on every movie he was in but he's amazing at playing the good guy.

Those are the best moments in life, meeting and actually having a conversation with a person larger than life.
I love Willem Dafoe, he's one of the greatest actors out there and such a kind person ❤️
The Simpsons would be beg to differ.
Dafoe is my favourite actor. Even when he's in films that aren't that great, he gives it his all and makes everything he's in worth watching.
He seems to be happy go lucky and enjoy anything he takes part in. Love ❤️ him
"Ah, this is easy too. Sorry." 4:17
Yes, I officially love this man now. The fact that he sounded like he was bragging and then immediately realized it and apologized (and laughed at himself) is completely endearing and says a lot about the kind of person he really is!
This man is amazing. Never phoned in a performance, speaks positively about every role, just an immense talent and a chill dude.
We know from that one video he's hung like a pony. He's got that BDE.
I'm glad he was able to get past killing that man in Zurich. I'm not convinced he did it but even if he did, we all make mistakes.
@@kingswing00what?
@@Eclecktro yep. We agree. I was in disbelief too.
This man is so charming, can't help but smile as he talks about all these experiences. Whenever he is in a movie you know it'll be something special.
Charisma level: 100+
Brilliant actor and seems so honest and genuinely nice. One of my favorite movies of his is To Live and Die in LA. He can play literally any role.
I smiled all the way through this. I so enjoy Willem Dafoe.
Willem Dafoe is such a delight to listen to and watch be interviewed. He has such a great personality, a hidden gem for sure.
In my opinion I think Willem Dafoe is up there with the best of them. You can tell he has true and real passion for what he does just hearing him talk. Just a solid dude who deserves all the praise in the world.
0:05 That's Chris Evans, sir
One of the greatest. If he's in your movie, the film instantly gets better. Also, what a wholesome guy he is.
It's a joy to just watch him talk and how much he loves his craft.
I love seeing Willem being interviewed, it's always a delight to listen to him.
I’m impressed he remembers most of his lines
What a lovely guy Willem is.
Never expected I would be amazed how normal he is comparing to other actors, even those who I like as well.
The disappointment in himself for not remembering it made me wanna pat his shoulder.
“It’s ok man, you overshadowed it three lines later.”
@@LordHoth_90 THERE WAS A FIREFIIIIIIIGHT!
Still got my fingers crossed for a 3rd one 😂
he has so much talent. what a great actor.
He reminds me of the old men you get sitting at cafés in rural France. His face, his body language, his personality. He just feels like the living embodiment of the saying "I'm a lover, not a fighter".
Well with a name like Dafoe...French feels accurate to me...I'd guess French ancestry
Dafoe is so humble you wouldnt know he has one of the greatest acting careers of all time
*Such a brilliant, kind and caring man and seems to truly enjoy the simple intricacies of filmmaking and life.🙏🏼*
Outside of being a most wonderful actor, I think the thing that I appreciate about him the most is seeing his absolute joy in performing.
I can only wish I had an ounce of his down to earth positive attitude.
It's absolutely criminal that Willem Dafoe of all actors hasn't gotten an Oscar yet. God only knows he deserves it for all the work he's put into these films.
The Oscars are such trash that I’d consider it an insult to be nominated ;)
@@lyingcat9022 I mean it is true that the Oscars are basically trash no doubt but still Willem deserves an award of some kind for his work.
@@SlurpyPie Isn't we the viewers indomitable love for him and his roles and our unending appreciation the best award an actor could ever receive?
He is a legendary actor, and unlike those Hollywood bred pedos worth his salt.
@@SlurpyPie he has won tons of awards. a quick google would tell you that lol
What a gorgeous intoxicating person. His range of work over decades has always been fantastic and compelling. I love actors who seek purpose and curiosity in a vast spectrum of storytelling.
He's a true artist in how he works!
Willem Dafoe really is one of the best actors in the world. And his memory! He's been in so many movies and only missed two! I can't remember what I had for lunch yesterday and this guy remembers small lines from 30-40 years ago! Holy $hit!
I really have to have a Dafoe marathon now!
Dafoe is one of my top 5 favourite humans. Nothing but humility, class, hard work and brilliance. Oh and he's funny af too.
Ranking humans cracks me up 🤣
He’s definitely up there in terms of classiness. Such a sincere human being. Love everything he’s ever done.
He has that kind of smile that just forces itself onto you, and nobody can do anything about it.
DaFoe is quite cool. I don't have idea how many movies he's been in, but every single movie I've seen him, he's always delivered excellent character. Insanely good actor.
I could quite happilly listen to this man over and over ...
what a brilliant intelligent articulate man....how many actors are able to speak like this !
Bravo mr Dafoe ..loved the video!!!
He should narrate audio books
One of the few actors' voices that are just so warming... that I could just listen to and enjoy. He is for me on the same level as Attenborough, Morgan Freeman, and James Earl Jones.
This man has played some of the most iconic roles in movie history. Doesnt ever get the credit he deserves.
Dang I didn't expect him to seem so happy and wholesome. A smile and laugh goes a long ways.
Reminds you of what a real villain looks like.
he didn't miss a beat
you can just see, he loves his trade...and because of that, it shows in his work. Huge and long time fan. Thank you for the days and days worth of movies...its probably weeks and weeks.
He has played so many twisted characters but so wholesome in real life. That's why I absolutely love his the Florida project performance. It's a shame he didn't win Oscar for it.
I swear this man is The Joker we never got, but always needed.
Thank you, wonderful interview & style. Huge fan of Mr D. 👍👍👍
“There was a fire fight” so epic
I do believe I'll be wanting a bagel with my coffee.
I'm sorry, it's "there was a FIREFIIIIGHT!" 😂
I could sit and listen to this man for hours.
You know the man is a treasure when you just watch it from beginning to end and you're sad when it is suddenly over.
Bravo.
A true legend in acting, one of my favorites growing up. Also a humble and sincere person.
You mean The Hunter. I was scratching my head trying to remember Willem from the Deer Hunter. I haven't seen the hunter, I will look it up.
I could listen to him all day
My favorite Willem Dafoe role is in the 1986 movie Platoon as Elias. That was the first time I saw him. After that he almost always played the heavy on every movie he was in but he's amazing at playing the good guy.
