However even during this era, you had films like Fight Club which contains similar themes about capitalism and how feel about their lives and in the interviews with the actors the only thing they ever talked about was how "crazy" it was, never really acknowledging the themes. Everyone's always trying to appeal to the masses so they have to vague and the really big projects they do don't give the actors much room to actually talk about layered meanings like this. The fact he played a character as iconic as Batman not once but THREE TIMES, and he is still known for so many other roles is just unbelievable. Christian is really one of the most talented and most adaptable actors ever.
And what makes it great for me is that he is so good with his accents and facial expressions, you only remember the characters, not Christian Bale. A very rare gift that only a few actors posses. There are many good actors, buy most just show their own emotions. They can do it on cue but they never really have that immense range. Bale, Fiennes, Day-Lewis are in a league of their own.

People always mention his body transformations, but it's important to remember that even without the transformations he's still one of the best actors. The body stuff just makes it more believable.
Yeah, the body stuff isn't even strictly necessary as they could just do it with makeup/costume/SF/CG, but if it gets him into the role better then fair enough.

Christian Bale does such a convincing American Accent. Genuinely didn't know he was British till I first heard is voice, and hearing it side by side here is absolutely incredible. He's got a thick British accent and yet he can do a somewhat light American accent. Great actor.

@@cactusmalone so, i noticed this when watching the dark knight: literally all the actors are amazing. and i mean all of them. the dark knight a lot of the time, focuses on smaller characters as well. like the bank manager, the dude at the party, the boat victims, and they all give it their all. magnum opus of the film is definitely heath, but shows how amazing the film is itself with such a loaded cast of talent

Likeable and personable aren't words I'd use to describe him after working with him on The Prestige years ago. Dedicated, obsessive, brilliant, yes, but not likeable. I think it's hard for anyone so focused to be personable.
I went through a massive state of depression when the machinist came out and I weighed close to 90 lbs and stopped sleeping for over 120 hours. I will never forget the connection I made with the character, my guilt wasn't so heavy but it weighed enough to cause me to almost quit. I'm aware Christian will never see this but he really gave me something to relate to and admire and I needed that in that time. Thank you Christian.

The humility he displays here is almost jaw dropping to me. When he said he was initially excited to take on the Batman movies so he could pay off his house is - it's incredible. The Machinist was , well, I don't know how to describe it. I couldn't believe what I was watching and couldn't look away. Just incredible acting, and you would never believe he could survive that weight loss without damage. Then the reckoning of clarity at the end.

Christian is one of the rare character actors. He doesn’t approach a role as an actor playing a person; he immerses himself into becoming that person for the next several weeks or months. This is why he and Heath were so great in Batman; one can suspend reality and begin to believe you’re watching these two real people like it’s a nightly news story.

Bale seems like a delightful individual. I've seen many actors talking about their iconic roles but Bale seems more elated to talk about them than most. It really shows how passionate he is about acting.
Yes. It was incredible how he was willing to spend almost a year prepping for the part he most likely will not get. He was pretty much an unknown at that point, so spending one year not having any active project in Hollywood was an extremely risky career move.
The fighter, his weight loss made him sleep less and more energetic, mentally. I find that fascinating on so many levels! I get about six hours of sleep at night and wake up feeling well rested… I asked the doctor about this. And he says your body is very lean and proficient and only needs this much rest. More than that would be ok but not necessary….

Christian does all the things actors aren't supposed to do. He's a successful child actor, been married for over 20 years, is gracious, doesn't take himself to seriously, and if he gets pegged for playing one character..he's OK with it. I also love seeing him talk about Heath.
I actually don't ever think of Christian Bale as a single role and he is maybe one of the few actors I feel that way about. He has been in so many really good movies and such a variety of roles that I can think of several.
I think a lot of it has to do with him having the ability to change his appearance so thoroughly for each role that a lot of other actors just don't have. Most actors look pretty much the same role to role, so it can ruin the immersion by your brain just acknowledging it's that actor instead of that character.
I'm really happy that he talked about Empire of the Sun, one of my top 10 favorite films. I've loved it since I was younger than Bale was in that movie.
My suspicion is that, whenever they skip an obvious movie, it's because the actor didn't want to talk about it. Which is understandable, I'm sure not every film shoot goes smoothly, with the actor getting along with everybody, loving their co-stars and directors etc. Which makes these videos kinda dishonest in a way, cos all we ever hear about is the ones that went well. But hearing actors say nice things about each other is nicer than gossip, so I don't mind.

I went through a massive state of depression when the machinist came out and I weighed close to 90 lbs and stopped sleeping for over 120 hours. I will never forget the connection I made with the character, my guilt wasn't so heavy but it weighed enough to cause me to almost quit. I'm aware Christian will never see this but he really gave me something to relate to and admire and I needed that in that time. Thank you Christian.

The Machinist was , well, I don't know how to describe it. I couldn't believe what I was watching and couldn't look away. Just incredible acting, and you would never believe he could survive that weight loss without damage. Then the reckoning of clarity at the end.
Christian is the king of method acting, hands down. The sheer dedication he puts into practically becoming most of his characters (e.g. Bateman & Trevor) is truly awe inspiring.

I think the machinist is the best for me, the way Bale transformed himself, to make the transformation be a part of the current situation for the character, it really portrays one person under two different states in life, and it's not CGI or make up, it's real. Amazing stuff.
This man is one of the finest examples of what an artist should be. The amount of dedication he has to his roles are always outstanding to me.

Yes. It was incredible how he was willing to spend almost a year prepping for the part he most likely will not get. He was pretty much an unknown at that point, so spending one year not having any active project in Hollywood was an extremely risky career move.
The fighter, his weight loss made him sleep less and more energetic, mentally. I find that fascinating on so many levels! I get about six hours of sleep at night and wake up feeling well rested… I asked the doctor about this. And he says your body is very lean and proficient and only needs this much rest. More than that would be ok but not necessary….
It's criminal to not discuss his portrayal of Ken Miles when talking about his greatest characters, he was absolutely sensational in that role.

This man can control his sweat that's how superhuman he is. Pure dedication. Christian Bale is and will be one of the greatest actors of all time.

Christian does all the things actors aren't supposed to do. He's a successful child actor, been married for over 20 years, is gracious, doesn't take himself to seriously, and if he gets pegged for playing one character..he's OK with it. I also love seeing him talk about Heath.

I actually don't ever think of Christian Bale as a single role and he is maybe one of the few actors I feel that way about. He has been in so many really good movies and such a variety of roles that I can think of several.
Christian Bale & Gary Oldman - neither has been pigeon-holed into any particular role or genre and both are absolute masters at their craft
I think a lot of it has to do with him having the ability to change his appearance so thoroughly for each role that a lot of other actors just don't have. Most actors look pretty much the same role to role, so it can ruin the immersion by your brain just acknowledging it's that actor instead of that character.

My suspicion is that, whenever they skip an obvious movie, it's because the actor didn't want to talk about it. Which is understandable, I'm sure not every film shoot goes smoothly, with the actor getting along with everybody, loving their co-stars and directors etc. Which makes these videos kinda dishonest in a way, cos all we ever hear about is the ones that went well. But hearing actors say nice things about each other is nicer than gossip, so I don't mind.
What he said about playing Batman was incredible, and I wish more actors / actresses thought that way. Just because you play a timeless part in a movie franchise doesn't mean you can't be a great character in a totally different film!

But what he said about having the skill to act around that is also very true. Like as much as I love him as an actor Ryan Reynolds will always be Deadpool his standard humor and delivery of how he speaks is what made Deadpool so great but that being said he would have to completely change the way he acts and speaks to make me think of something else.
