The reason the small tank stopped filling was because you kept closing the spitter on the side of the 20lb cylinder, the spitter will need to be open at all times to cause a pressure differential so the liquid will flow from the large tank to the small tank. Also you should be wearing gloves the liquid will freeze burn you and give you a nasty burn, just a suggestion it's up to you however I seen people get really nasty burns from liquid propane. PS not sure when this video was produced however the new tanks that are now being produced are called Lo E which means it spits out less vaper when you open the spitter, this will also slow down your filling process.
When the liquid propane is transferred to the empty tank it will flash into vapor this vapor is very cold causing a lower pressure in the small tank. This is why the tank that is being filled has to be empty and depressurized. Yes I should be wearing groves.
I know this is an old video, but I just got the same system from the company on eBay , my tank has a different connection than yours, is there an adapter ? There’s no threads on the evacuation port .
I don’t think that it’s necessary to leave it open all the time. The tank that is getting filled has to be empty 100% and depressurized. You need an initial fast transfer with liquid propane. This will cause the liquid to flash into vapor and cool down the tank. By cooling the tank down the pressure in the tank getting filled will be lower than the big tank.
LOL. Its almost impossible to blow up a propane tank. You can shoot one with a rifle and it won't blow up, just lose the propane through the hole. You would have to shoot it with some armor piercing incendiary round and then maybe. People are too influenced by movies
You ever use a forklift tank to fill a smaller tank? I have 2 forklift tanks that I need empty and I've got 2 20lb tank's that needs filled so I wondered about filling them myself.
that will be a vapor to vapor transfer, you'll need a way to freeze the tank you desire to fill as you'll have to condense the vapor into liquid form inside the tank
@@thastinger345 Uuumm why can't you just flip the fork lift tank upside down on the liquid side like they do with the bbq propane cylinders when putting propane into the 1lb bottles?
@@JM-yx1lm he didn't say the tank would only weigh 15.5lbs total.... He said "...when it has 15.5Lbs IN IT..." Meaning when it has 15.5lbs of Liquid Propane in the tank.
Drop it in the deep freezer for 3-4 hours. Wrap in a blanket. Wait until the sun heats your black felt covered source tank. You see how pressure and temperature differential works?
I would have expected you to have the tank on a set of scales to measure the weight if the tank wasn't being filled by a liquid pump. Oh, and having a phone start ringing with vibrate ON! IS the way to blow yourself up. Plenty of Asians have proven it can be done, some are even on youtube demonstrating it.
Lots of wrong here.. the target tank does NOT need to be empty.. it needs to be at a lower pressure..this done with cooling the target, heating the source, and/or running the vents on the target
That’s right, but it is easier to have an empty tank than trying to cool it down. I recently filled a tank that had about a pound of propane in it and it took a very long time to fill.
And WHY folks can screw themselves etc up by following such, I'd like to see a PROFESSIONAL showing HOW to do this with the necessary parts named & for sale
Is there a name of the hose and valves to find on amazon?
The fitting that goes directly to the tank whats it called where did u buy it ?please let me know
How do I depressurize the 20 lb tank? Where can i get the tube and fittings?
At :30 I show the vent port being opened with a flathead screw driver. Nashfuel has the parts that you need
Good job on refilling your tank and explaining it so you said you got the parts of ebay

Agree 💯 on the freezer burn, I've seen instant frostbite, not pretty
You seem to know a little about this, is the vent prior to the valve necessary or would the spitter be sufficient

No threads on the big tank? If so you may have a different type of port. Contact you propane supplier to see if the can install one.
Why wouldn't you leave the vent/spitter on the 20# tank open while filling until it gets gas?

Can a 100lb. bottle be filled by the 500 ?? sorry if it was already stated, I just was not sure. Thank you
I don’t see why not. It should work just like the other tanks. The biggest tank that I have done is a 40lb.

yeah, scale isn't needed, it'll shut itself off when it has 15.5Lbs in it, unless it is a really old tank with the round knob.
Bullshit. 15.5 lbs is not what the tank weighs when full. Its much more than that.
