- This is how to TKO Mike Tyson in the first round.
The strategy. In the first 1:30, dodge his punch and hit him twice.
Your first punch has to hit him on the side where he tried to swing at you. If he gives you a right uppercut, hit him first on his right side. If you hit him on the other side, he will not take damage.
The second punch MUST be delayed at the perfect time to take away maximum damage. Too early means normal damage, too late means Tyson/Dream will block you or hit you back. Timing is EVERYTHING. Do some research on delayed/timed punches to learn more about this as this works on other opponents as well.
After the first 1:30, dodge his swing punches and delay your hit at the right time to hit him once for maximum damage. Hit too soon and you will stun him which takes less damage, hit too late and he will block your punch. Once again, timing is EVERYTHING! The framerate to get maximum damage is smaller during this time than it is during the first 1:30.
No I didn't use game genie. This attempt was slowed down on an emulator so I can time the hits perfectly. I used Div-X video encoding which takes up less memory but results in crappier video quality. Hopefully you will understand how delayed punches take more damage than normal punches (it works on most of the opponents in this game). And do some research on delayed punches before commenting something stupid on this video. - Розваги

Epic Game! It took me about 3 months to beat Tyson back in 1987 or 88. I still play it sometimes along with the older Zelda's and Mario's.

That was flat out unbelievable!!! I am pretty damn good and used to survive the entire round without being hit...but this was awesome!

He throws more in R2 and R3, but the point of the game is to be kind of accurate. He wasn't a jabber.

Personally I like just going the distance with Mike, and winning by decision. Feels more like Rocky when you do that.
I remember this game. One of Tyson punches would knock the crap out of you. After you learn the code, you were cool.
At the end, Mike Tyson would never compliment someone like that. He'd bite your ear off.
The second punch is slightly delayed and takes more energy from Tyson. I can't beat him anymore. He gets me with the delayed punch. Great Job!

So in the description it says this attempt was slowed down on an emulator so you can time the hits perfectly. This begs the question: can you knock out Tyson in 1 round when playing the game at regular speed?
I've done it quite a few times before when I was younger, although nowhere near the time I got in this video. Right now, my reflexes at the age of 32 have slowed down a lot, but I should try to see if I can TKO Tyson in the first round like the good ol' days.
AriochStarr I can TKO him using no cheats. It's gotta be in round 3 though. But not the KO. That's tougher.
My first ever win over Tyson as a kid was by decision though. I loved seeing the stunned look on Mike's face when Mario called me the winner. I'm sure I looked pretty stunned too.
Its doable, but you have to practice to get back to playing how you did as a kid.

Good idea. I have done it a few times on an actual NES. Like I state in the description, this attempt was slowed down on an emulator (by 50%). My record on Tyson on an actual NES is 2:53. If I can get my NES working and a video camera, I might attempt to do that sometime in the future.

hahaha, it was the same way for me! i was born in 1983 and my older brother was able to finish all Nes game, except TMNT and Punch out. even after 20 years without playing Punch out, i still now the code to get to Tyson and, i still remember the day i beat him, i felt like rocky in Rocky 2 when i beat Apollo! it was awesome. just like you, i guess i was just like you, the happier kid of the world at this moment. so proud! haha. i never get such feeling after that when playing a video game.

The first 90 seconds, I call it Ninety Second of Hell. That is exactly what it is. But after that, it is much easier.
very impressive. the best I've done is 2nd round TKO. after years on hiatus, at the age of 35, I've recently decided to try and beat him again and it's been a terrible experience. I'm having a hard time getting past the first 1:30 and when I do I lost barely in the 3rd round. maybe it's my slower reflexes, who knows. hopefully I can beat it today!
I was able to get a TKO in the second round every time I played...never the first round though! Very cool!

I would always get so damn nervous when I finally got to fighting Tyson and tell myself not to mess it up but he always just mopped the floor with me
After 25 years I beat this sob not five mimutes ago.I finally can close this chapter in my gaming life.I didn't beat him as you did but it was just as satisfying to win by tko in the third round at 2:51 seconds.

Holy shit dude! You are good! Quickest I ever beat him was the 2nd round! I did however go through every fight leading up to Tyson without ever getting hit once, until I fought Tyson and got hit in the 2nd round, en route to knocking him out :) That was my claim to "fame" :)
When I beat Mike (using the power glove!) I jumped up so hard that I pulled the power cord out of the wall! It didn't save my progress and none of my family or friends believed me that I beat him :( Been called a liar for the rest of my life!
So much for ever beating Tyson! I was thinking of maybe getting a NES and hooking it up somehow to my old 21 inch CRT monitor somehow. Oh well...

Beating Tyson has to be one of the most crowning achievements in a retro-gamer's life. I'm sure there was a time when many believed Tyson simply was not meant to be beaten.

Tyson whopped my ass so many times on this game when I was 8. I got so pissed after countless losses to him I went into a rage and got in the zone one day, annihilated him pretty much just like this video, he didn't even hit me. :) You would have thought I'd won the lottery the way I was celebrating.
@TheMerlinOfAR its possible but it can only be done in the third round and you have to knock tyson down twice with your hardest punches. I was in third grade when I did it and i had attempted it over ten times lol. He tried getting up on the 5 and 9 count but fell back down lol

I remembered the first time I beat the game, by decision may I add, no TKO or KO, no no no.... I had memorized every single punch timing of the first round!!! I had every second timed, of course I now remember the first one only.... the 006 seconds one!!! the first killer punch!!! This game truly brings some of the best memories of my childhood, a definite NES classic

When I played this game back than, I've never beat Mike Tyson this quick in the 1st Round.
I remember playing this game for days as a kid. I still remember the day I finally beat him in the second round and ran around the house. Lol. Right before snes came out I had it down to the first round so this is definitely possible.

Mike Tyson, who was and still is always known by kicking ass in real life boxing, is in a video game from his boxing time and breaks the 4th wall. THE UNIVERSE IS ABOUT TO EXPLODE!
I beat him many times, but never in the first round. I would always get hit in the first 90 seconds if I tried punching him back so I just dodged him for the first 90 seconds. This motivates me to try and play this again.

There were two versions released for the NES. The original is Mike Tyson's Punch Out! After the ear biting and other incidents they re-released the game with out him called Punch Out!
