The fact that someone can actually make consistently engaging documentaries from these games, is endlessly fascinating to me.
Thank you!
Does anyone know when they are going to do a remastered of command & conquer Volume 2 collection???
@@LINJ638 Even if they made it DLC, I would snatch that up like a field of Vinifera.
you amaze me every time. you somehow manage to make a 20 min video about something that could be explained in 5 min and keep it interesting even for c&c veterans
This could be taken as a compliment or a insult lol
There's just something so comfy about these, it's almost as if i'm watching an official channel from the time when the game came out. So nostalgic.
I am still convinced that Tib wars GDI defenses are supposed to be used in tandem with walls. I mean, the watchtower and sonic emitter height just makes this obvious. It is unfortunate that we can't build walls in the base Tib wars game without mods.
Agreed. And it's such a shame, because some of them are such a great improvement over their Tiberian Sun counterparts! (Watchtower = cheaper and quicker to deploy; Sonic Emmiter = durable and the hardest hitting thing yet)
Only the Guardian Cannon was a downgrade (would need to be placed outside the walls), but that's about it. Put up a wall and these defenses will shred nearly ANYTHING attacking GDI! _But _*_no._*_ They had to do away with walls because... _*_reasons._* (sorry, military budget cuts don't count as a viable excuse for the lack of walls)
Yeah it's sad for the cut content they did not showed and cut and also good because the moders dev put them back in or fix the game to be even better than before 👌.
I like Watchtower's shooting sound but i honestly prefer NOD's defenses because lasers
Everyone is gangsta until the modern art starts humming.

This man is keeping my love for C&C alive, thanks for the hard work dude!
Try mental omega mod u will love c&c more
As much as I vastly prefered the Towers from Tiberian Sun, I gotta admit that lining up rows of Cannons in Tiberium Wars feels surprisingly satisfying. It feels like I'm mounting the guns of a battleship, only on land!
Still, Towers and Walls for the win. I was really bummed GDI (aka, EA) abandoned their use on the frontline at the Third Tiberium War!
The new anti-infantry gun was a great addition (cheap, effective, can still shoot over walls), but that's about it!
Uplink complete...
Welcome back Commander...
Incoming transmission...
Jethild defensive briefing ready...
You forgot Classified Eyes only briefing.
One thing about the firestorm defense. There IS one weapon that can break through it. GDI’s rail gun that Ghoststalker and Mammoth MkII used could shoot right through it. The shot wouldn’t damage the segment, but could hit anything beyond it.
The sole reason I tune in is to be called commander or general, we need you as an AI for a spin-off game, it’s amazing how dedicated you are to C&C I love it
In all my years of playing C&C, I've never once utilized base defense upgrades. I didn't know there were upgrades. The amount of times my bases and defenses fell hurts me even more now.
Base defences? U mean tanks. Lots of tanks lol. Yeah I rarely go for upgrades. Not sure why though
Guardian Cannons are lowkey underpowered, and the Railgun upgrade needed to make it actually useful comes late and is very expensive, youre better off using Missile Squads, Pitbulls and Predators (Titans if youre Steel Talons) for land defense
THIS I havent played this game in almost a decade. No clue why it’s being recommended to me…and in all those hours playing this game I had NO CLUE about some of these upgrades. Boy do I feel silly lol
@@nicholaswallen8147 the Railgun upgrade costs 5000 Tib, youre better off saving up for the MARV
@@zekramnordran9526 Your a little off, it's just 3000...
Still expensive though...
Global DEFENSE Initiative: the name obliges to something. 😉
Anyway, it's always good to watch another of your C&C documentaries Jethild. Thank you! 👍
Except NOD has the better defenses. The
obelisk of light is better than anything GDI has. Component towers are so bad and weak.
@@kommodore979 Not cost effective. Build this and that your own base defenses. Why not consolidate them into one boat????
Always enjoyed GDI for their ability to make solid trench lines
The Firestorm Generator was resurected in the Yuri's Revenge Mod Mental Omega as a Fohen Defensive structure.
I wonder if Mental Omega deserves a look into?
7:26 why don't more games do this? Being able to directly integrate defenses into walls
For the tib dawn AGT i think the better interpretation is that the missile is ejected and then fires up its thrusters sort of like how some modern heavy ATGMs like the javelin operate, it also explains why its capable of attacking helicopters
I appreciate how you try to explain things from both the Wattsonian and Doyleist perspectives where there are inconsistencies. The Advanced Guard Tower from Tiberian Dawn could have been an easy write off as game engine limitations but you made efforts to address it from an in universe explanation and I really like that. Keep up the good work man, your videos are constantly rekindling my adoration for this series.
I have always found GDI having cheaper but more numerous defenses, while Nod has always had more "Ommf" when it came to defenses
One of the few channels that the bell is on for
Go Jethild !
Firestorm also got used up faster based on how many enemies were killed. Which is really annoying. I liked playing maps where you could build up a lot of units, and people would make dozens of air units. They were cheap to make, so it was actually cost effective to get half or more destroyed so that the remainder could bomb structures. 😐
new Kane's Wrath video from Jethild? what a lovely day
Ah, yes.... 😁 The construction yards of the 2nd Tiberium War received a "patch" which mean that concrete walls could be built in lines of up to 5, rather than paying for and placing each wall segment individually. 😳😅 Making it easier & cheaper to wall off your construction yard.
Nice work on gdi defences
It ' s always great to see a new video on this Channel especially if it's about Tiberian lore! I strongly anticipate the same topic but about the Brotherhood side
Jethild vids are those that you click like, bevor it even begins, because you KNOW that it will be good.
I always liked to think that the Advanced Guard Tower used vertically launched missiles fired from launchers hidden just behind the back of the sprite we see.
Building the component towers in game always felt like a pain! Love the modular concept in lore however.
Watchtowers have a good functionality, but I'm not personally the biggest fan of the design, looks too spindly for my comfort.
The Guardian Turrets are cool, love the railgun turrets. But with GDI using some form of anti-all or anti-vehicle missile defences like the Adv Guard Tower or RPG Component Tower I still feel like they should be using some form of anti-tank missile or rocket. Perhaps a future title will have a range of defences for GDI or spread among the sub-factions.
I'm not a big fan of the AA Battery for anti-aircraft. Much prefer GDI to use a proper SAM system, or a duel gun-missile system if they must have a close defence cannon like those.
I am pretty sure that is how it was originally envisioned. Looking at the ancient render provided in the original manual, it has what could easily be launch tubes at the top - not windows. Though if so, why they are blue on the sprite is anyone's guess...
4:35
Allow me to disagree. The AGT is equipped with VLS(Vertical Launch System) akin to either Crotale/VT-1 or Tor/Kinzhal and capable of engaging ground targets unlike irl counterparts(meaning that it's closer to ADATS or Hellfire II dual purpose variants).
Yeah it sounds like those could work as well. For me the main issue was just the AGT using Tomahawk missiles not making much sense.
@@Jethild mostly economically:D
But that can be an issue of naming convention once again, like M60-2000 being called Crusader and M1CATTB being called Paladin in Generals.
A very cool video. I dont play the game but i just love when people explain Games Mechanics and Buildings in such a in Universe type of way!
Base defenses getting a lore video. Not something I ever thought I'd see.
Filthy spam bot
As an long time Command & Conquer fan, watching videos like this really does bring back happy memories. Keep up the good work.
You're my hero Sir !
Nod base defence is fascinating as well
Functionally, I also view the firestorm defense and walls as not working out well on the new game engine at the time, especially when dealing with the sort of terrain that was present in 3 and Kanes Wrath.
I feel if we ever get a new C&C, the ingame maps would need a lot of work to them if walls and such made a return which wouldn’t be impossible with a grid like system but something that may prove to be too much of a pain to do.
I used to like the Firestorm Generator once I had access to it,as I could use it to block those pesky missiles Nod launched at my base. Just wait for the notification, then activate the generator, but one missile would overload it usually.
I could be wrong but I think it's also a question of design philosophy too.
The first two command and conquer were designed as single player campaign first that could also be played in multiplayer. The later game (particulalry visible with RA3 and *shudder* C&C 4 but TW wasn't exempt) were deisnged as multiplayer and competitive games first then songle player as most AAA TS have been since... well basically since starcraft, let's be honnest. and like Starcraft they encourage an agressive, micro heavy, rich in APM playstyle were the player has to be often on the offensive and generaly discourage turtling.
I guess they could have reappeared in Kane's wrath since it was a ostly single player focussed extension but it would still have required quite a bit of effort to implement and the extensionhad quite a bit to implant with sub faction and the conquest mode.
@@s.m.2523 yeah this is true also. Though I consider TW and Kanes Wrath to be amazing really to the point of being the best in the series purely by gameplay, I kinda want a return to the older style games if we get new C&Cs.
Single player focus just comes off as more enjoyable for the series really (and I’d like to spite EA and other corporations for their emphasis towards multiplayer).
Þis man here - should be called: þe official C&C library, for making such splendid in-depþ content.
Great job.
The best defense is a good offense, so build those walls inside the AIs base and prevent them from doing anything. Gotta love CnC 1 AI.
Also I'm convinced that Guard Towers don't actually have a machine gun, but instead just kill infantry with how absurdly loud they are (Seriously look it up, just turn down the volume...a lot).
I was trying to work on a story line for a second Scrin Invasion, for GDI they were forced to retreat to the Blue Zones which had been fortified in the interim years while keeping the Threshold Tower contained behind a network of firestorm walls and heavy defenses until the Scrin found a way to infiltrate and shut them down. I did figure out how to even make the Crawlers into part of the type of conflict where GDI and Nod forces outside their fortified territories,
Thank you for bringing all series of C&C together in videos like this!
Thank you, you in particular and the cnc community, for keeping this franchise alive. Without you, I don't think we would've ever seen a remaster to one of my favourite childhood game.
Recovering from surgery, and this is exactly the kind of distraction i need. Bingeing your CnC stuff: very high quality! Love it! Shared with all my friends. 🙂 thank you for giving me some comfort and food for thought while healing: greatly appreciated! Please, keep up the great work!
PS: will you be covering the Red Alert stuff too? (If not now, then planned down the line?) That's be fun.
Get well soon ;)
@@DJNicShogun thank you kindly
I plan to eventually do some Red Alert lore, but that'll happen after get the Tiberium series done, which is not gonna happy any time soon since I still have a good number of topics to cover in it.
@@Jethild cool! Looking forward to both, of course! It's great being able to introduce my friends, who missed out on CnC, to the lore via your videos. 🙂
@@Jethild hey, look, someone is impersonating you. 😕
You have an amazing ability to make a short topic into a long one, and keep it interesting. Even for people like me who have played the games for years (In other words, you did a wonderful job)!
Keep up the great work man. So far, you and No Strings Prd are my favorite C&C lore channels.
I kinda think the weird view-port on the top o GDI's TS-era concrete walls is meant to be a viewport/fireport for titans. The walls are notable shorter than the comptowers and the sloped surfaces likely help reflect incoming AT rounds, which makes me think it was designed to be low enough to allow the tall Titan to fire through/over it.
That's a good observation on the viewport. I also thought the sloped surfaces were reminiscent of sloped armor on tanks to deflect AT rounds. Only they seem to be made out of concrete instead of metal. Or maybe it's concrete with metal rebar inside to make it stronger.
@@Jethild concrete with rebar. Rebar holds the concrete wall together and only let small chunk fall of instead of whole wall crumble away when hit with significant force.
@@Jethild I'd guess reinforced concrete - maybe laced with embedded plates? I'm no structural engineer but I'm going to go out on a limb and say the separation at the top of the view port is a sort of paradoxial structural stengthing thing - It provides a break point so that one side getting hit just breaks off that 'wing' and doesnt transfer the damage to the entire wall.
Actually, that brings up an interesting counter-design point - Do you think the Tick Tanks deployment grants it a greater gun elevation? If so, it might be partially capable of tackling these walls by exploiting the view port, as well as targeting softer roof armour of enemy vehicles. I should test to see if they can fire over walls when deployed vs undeployed.
I got to make a joke, Tiberium content is like my chronominers farming that near depleted gold field, getting like 20 credits ree.
Another amazing watch, your the best Jethild!
As someone who grew up playing Westwood, Bioware, and Interplays back catalogue on an old Dell tower that my dad gave me as a kid. I really love that someone has the kind of passion that I have for my all time favorite series of all time. Much love brother!
Thank you for keeping the C&C alive. I'll never get tired of listening of C&C's lores, they're so interesting... Shame EA doesn't think so
Amazing work jethild👍
Jethild maybe they already asked you that, but with Tempest Rising en route will we have this kind of documentaries for that game? It would be really cool IMO
I always edit the Firestorm Generator to run infinitely when activated, like it does in some missions.
Really fun in Skirmish and Singleplayer!
Really wish there was someone who would get into detail on how to properly use sandbags in CNCR-TD
outstanding work as usual! Thanks for uploading it!
This shows just how embedded in our gaming consciousness C&C has become. It's always fascinating delving into the lore of the GDI v NOD/SCRIN conflicts.
forgot to mention about the scrin corruptors and black hands for clearing gdi foxholes and can occupied by either nod or scrin 17:44
Thank you for this video Intel Officer Jethild! Awesome and informative as always! Keep it up!
You never fail to disappoint Jethild :)
I wish I had found out about these videos sooner. So much detail, and lore that I didn't actually know even as a fan of the C&C universe. I hope there will be more.
It’s curious that thanks to scrin’s invation the sonic emitors change the one tool for control the tiberium zone to the best defense of the GDI.
im suprise he keeps pumping c&c videos for a long time now
excellent video as always, but calling the vulcan cannon a minigun is not something i expected from you...
It's literally stated in the Tiberian Sun manual. I'm not saying that it makes sense, but that's where I got that information from.
1) The Soviets, ironically enough, had observation towers in forward and field bases that acted as the precursor to GDI's guard towers. They were unarmed observation posts, however, with no fortification whatsoever (seen in a Red Alert cutscene).
2a) GDI and Nod both used guard towers, though the latter were mainly concrete bunkers/fortifications. We see this in Renegade.
2b) "Guard Tower" in the First Tiberium War actually was an umbrella term for many different types: it ranged from the fortified wooden towers we see in cutscenes to the concrete-like, Renegade-style in-game sprites. Outside of the concrete towers we see in Renegade, GDI also had another guard tower that was basically a crude, open top, elevated wooden platform with an automated, double-barreled chaingun on top. It's still in the Renegade game files and is used on custom maps like the Nod Turret (which it may have been intended to be a counterpart to) is in role on official maps.
I find it interesting that they actually reduced the caliber from 30mm to 20mm, but I suppose that one being a conventional ammunition type and the other a more lethal coilgun projectile would make such a thing a moot point.
GDI: When the bass hops. The Crystals drop.
There actually was a ground launched tomohawk in use from 1983-1991 called the BGM 109, they were only discontinued due to the INF treaty
This is wonderful, you even got the GOAT base defense: pavement.
Go you! I love how you can take things like these defensive structures and amke them a story bit.
loving these
Gotta love how the 4th war is treated like the fight club by this channel.
Like a true fan of C&C.
I’m guessing you will also do nod defences too. After that, can you maybe do a video on sensors, such as the mobile sensory array, and the sensors used on base defences
Awesome video by the way.
Sensors I would categorize as part of support structures or support powers which are planned future topics.
What about the spacecraft and space station from the previous video that you mentioned on GDI Air Force????
I love your presentation of these.
Might I suggest coveting Dune RTS games? The narrative in them takes liberties from the books, yes but a lot of people love dune for their RTS games.
Such a master piece video and game, thumbs up.
Two thumbs up! 👍🏻👍🏻
It pains me so much to see renegade gameplay where the camera is not locked to the vehicle turret.
Two 50mm guns.
Used primarily against infantry.
Laughs in vulcan overkill.
Always amazing!
Great video! ^_^
Love these vids!
Very cool and nice vid Bro !
The best formation of defenses on my part that maximizes efficiency in Tiberium Wars in anti-infantry in the front, anti-armor behind, and anti-air behind the anti-armor.
This is a pretty awesome series you have got going on. Who knew fictional documentaries would be such a hit?
You're not the only one to wonder where the hell the advanced guard tower was firing its rockets/missiles from.
New video! YAY
Point of order, Intelligence Analyst Jethild; foxhole fighting positions can be repaired, but it can only be done by a Steel Talon Repair APC.
It saddens me that EA leaves the series languishing in limbo. I love every one of your videos, thank you!
I enjoy a lot watching your videos, even tho i never played CnC, only the Red Alert 2 and Yuris Revenge
hey babe wake up new cnc lore video
😴
I thought this existed but it didnt and I didn't realise I wasn't subbed so, yeah i can't wait for more!
14:30 I had a game where there I took the face a a mountain with these turrets. The enemy sent a full wave of heavy armor and it was all wiped out in seconds due to the sheer number of turrets firing at them.
Let the greatness continue
Hey J, about the advanced guard tower-tomahawk missiles issue, I believe that's the designers having fun. Just like Rifleman have gau miniguns but look like their holding m-16's lol.
I believe the missiles used are based on the 70mm rocket weapons systems. To attack both ground forces as well as Low flying aerial threats.
Not really sure but that's what I'd put my money on lol
Also about the Guardian Cannon...
Remember when Nod used Gun Turrets to protect their bases back in the First Tiberium War?...
GDI: *IT'S PAYBACK TIME!*
I could have sworn there was a 4th tiberium war as well, seems like there wasn't and I am wrong. It's better this way. wink wink
Just rumors
NOD base defenses next?
GDI watch towers from TW3 are probably the best, simple yet effective and deadly design
The AA turret in the third is like a cross between US and Russian designs. Those pods on top look more like the sensors of the Phalanx rather than ammo pods.
Also, depleted uranium and tungsten have the same density, but du had an effect where it can ignite with the air after hitting a target. Tungsten needs to be reinforced in order to better penetrate a target, decreasing it's density. DU doesn't need reinforcing for penetrating.
Plus, land based Phalanx shoot explosive ammo compared to the tungsten core rounds fired from their sea based counterparts.
Great and informative video as always, but you forgot about the GDI bunker.
NICE C&C content
The Forgotten are badass!
Correction fox holes can be repaired by drones such as from the steel talons mobile repair
C&C Tiberian series needs bit of a reboot, not much but a bit.
would love to see you do the same video for the other factions.
CnC 3 had an interesting excuse for the cutbacks in GDI military technology, but it's kinda lame to expect that they would give up such advanced technology entirely.
