@James Banks, They keep crack on them while on duty to plant it on whoever they happen to dislike, and that's just fucking terrible because it could be me or you just driving and minding our own business and just because a cop doesn't like us or what we're driving, and he feels entitled to ruin our life, and not too many cops lose their case in court especially if there are drugs involved in the arrest, our word means nothing in a court of law, but a cop can lie through his/her fucking teeth and get away with it.

As a retired officer myself (and white if that has any bearing), honestly I think he got off too lightly. Actions of officers like him not only tarnish the image and dignity of the badge but also endanger the lives of other officers (and conversely other civilians) by fueling an atmosphere of distrust towards the police. In the early days of my career the thin blue line worked both ways in that any fellow officer whose actions brought shame to the badge was usually dealt with quietly and harshly by their brethren behind closed doors and forced to explore another career path.

They should be held to a HIGHER standard and charged accordingly with harsher sentences. It makes zero sense that they should receive a lesser sentence than just some normal schmuck committing a similar offense.

The people she took the oath to serve are extremely lucky and should be proud they have her...great kudos to her...I feel like equality was set back decades when the man currently in the White House was sworn in. It will be people such as this judge that give me a little hope that this country can continue on the correct course as a people and as Americans. The dim flame of hope burns a little brighter in me now thanks to her. Thank you.

In michigan he will do at least the full 13 months since there is no good time on sentences to MDOC. Honestly he will most likely do 2 or 3 years because the parole board is mandated not to parole violent offenders without completing Assaultive offenders counseling which is a year long course. The wait list for counseling is at least 6 months. Since he will be in the reception center for 45 days it will likely be impossible for him to reach his facility and partake in A.O.C. before his first outdate. Since michigan does not have protective custody yards he will most likely spend all that time in a cell locked down for 23 hours a day. I hope this man enjoys his trip to Jackson and his lovely surroundings in northside.

There's no doubt there is a massive malignancy of systemic racism throughout most of the police forces in the United States. It's reprehensible. But I was glad to hear you say that it's not just blacks, it's everyone. I'm white, successful, middle class, and I can tell you I've had some horrible and disgusting experiences with the police. When I was 19 (14 years ago) I had a group of officers beat me so bad they broke my collarbone and collapsed a lung, then proceeded to plant drugs on me in order to justify the beating which was NOT recorded. My crime? I was stopped without cause and demanded to know why. My point is that I think there is not only a clear and absolute systemic problem of racism, but also simply a culture and attitude of being above the law and untouchable, and it's eroding away the fabric of freedom of this country. Unfortunately, between the mass surveillance and police state status quo I feel we are already living in "1984".

How can you spend that much time lecturing him just to give him a slap on the wrist. This isn’t justice and she doesn’t deserve the praise she’s getting. All she did was sound good, like she cared and then proved she didn’t with the sentence. She wasted her breath, our time and got our hopes up for nothing.

I believe that this officer was not sentenced harshly enough. I would also like to say as a white man I am extremely pleased to see this black host addressing the situation the way that he is. I I am frequently subjected to listening to black men or women using the N-word with absolutely no control over it. I believe that the N-word should not be used by any culture if we have decided that this is not an appropriate term then we should not use the word no matter what our race. I commend you sir for treating the N-word for what it is a word no one should use. There is no privileged situation that should allow anyone to utilize the N-word the way that it has been utilized in today society. The fact that our mainstream music and actors use it at the rate that they do but then expect that some other race or group people should not is unacceptable. Thank you for a wonderful review of what was a terrible case I will subscribe and follow you.
