Where did a fair trial go? Put the window! No counsel was assigned...this guy made himself judge Judy and executioner without any due process over his stupid mistaken sense of pride. He's not God in that courtroom. He is still subject to the rules of the judiciary system concerning even perceived crimes.. that he acted on emotion purely, he needs to be removed. We must have zero tolerance for this on our authorities...Trump has fed these monsters and Vance is worse. Petition this judge out of office because this is mental illness. It is hubris so egregious as to overstep the reason you might be respected..he disrespected his profession at unbelievable levels, on a child, on a female as a male with power...it's borderline sexual assault in terms of sexism. Get him out. Get them all out. Vote blue and lock up Trump for real crimes as an example to this judge that at the very top you have rules to follow and are also culpable for overstepping them, especially in sexist destructive abusive manners.

He overstepped his bounds by having her handcuffed and detained for no legal reason. Illegal intimidation. Her mother should sue for him violating her civil rights. Just ask one of the adults she came with to escort her outside, simple.

And I'm pretty sure he took an oath at some point to protect those without power.

He made a massive mistake completely in the wrong. There was no crime committed which gave him Zero jurisdiction over this child. My wife is an attorney and she also agrees he was way out of line. The family could sue easily and possibly get this judge disbarred. We have a legal system with set laws for a reason. So tyrants like this one can’t walk all over law abiding citizens. How about if someone's falling asleep, engage them, ask if everything's ok, ask if maybe she wanted to wait somewhere more quiet if her sleeping is disturbing the trip. He could have found out quickly she doesn't have a home and her sleeplessness is because of issues outside of her control. No, what he did instead is teach her to distrust a judge, which will also apply to other figures of authority related to the law. Falling asleep is not a crime, it's not a disrespect to the system, it's an effect of not having gotten enough sleep. This judge processed her as if she were a criminal, and shows he's not afraid to just make up a crime and charge someone with it because he thinks it's wrong. That's not what a judge should be doing, he should be upholding the laws as written, and he should be protecting not intimidating children with his power. Judge needs to get a couple hundred hours of community service. Instead he offers to mentor the girl, like anyone would aspire to act like the self important jerk that he is.

Some of the comments below this video are truly terrifying. Blanket statements, overgeneralizing, no statement of facts, jumping to conclusions... And people are wondering why we have the highest incarceration rate in the world.
Fact one: The teen lives in temporary housing and doesn't have her own bed to sleep in. It's the reason why she was sleepy to begin with.
Fact two: The judge stated in an interview that her body language was disrespectful. This is after saying no comment due to "pending litigation" even though there was no litigation and the video was taken down. Then he decided to answer questions anyway so the first excuse was just an excuse.
The fact that people cannot clearly see a power trip of an adult over a minor. 100% unethical reaction by a judge who is sworn to be fair and impartial. No wonder this country is going down the toilet.

The judge is completely clueless to the damage he has done to this organization, an organization that was tasked to help kids over the summer. Now has a stain of possibly sending kids to jail. The damage he has done to the girl's spirit and her family. To be singled out for being tired and humiliated in front of her peers. None of what I saw was an actual court function.

How can a JUDGE have such POOR JUDGEMENT?
There's a major problem here. This man has people's entire lives in his hands. Imagine being in that situation - even our criminals deserve better.
His straight-up FOOLISH offer to mentor her after such a plain display of judgemental incompetence is just further proof that this guy needs to be removed from his position.

Judge is ego tripping. Judges and police believe they're above the community. He traumatized that child. He should be taken, placed in cuffs locked up for a few days.. Her parents should sue his arrogant azz. That was over the top abuse. Same that our children experience with police.😠

That judge is a BULLY!! His actions were definitely inappropriate and unnecessary. Maybe there were circumstances which the young girl was facing, like homelessness or a job at night, which prevents her from getting enough sleep. He needs to apologize to that girl and change his behavior or quit being a judge. His actions were disrespectful and disgusting.

The judge was obviously asserting his authority for the benefit of himself,, and the courtroom spectators,, especially the young tour group..His tribute to "Scared Straight" combined with the handcuffs and prisoner jumpsuit,, along with indication the young lady would be the guest at the juvenile detention center,, may have reached the threshold for deprivation of rights under color of authority,, and illegal detainment....The girls mother is not having any of this,, retained counsel,, and Judge King may be answering US Code questions in a Federal Court down the road..The Chief Judge in 36 Court is NOT a happy camper over this,, and expressed that to the news media...

He wanted to embarrass her. He keeps saying has an attitude, but I haven't seen one video of this supposed attitude. This is the same judge who has a history of being this way to black women/girls, specifically those who are dark skin.

What was the actual reason? What was the disrespect she showed? Just falling asleep? This isn't how you scare someone straight. I maybe could understand if there was a history of disrespect, but a 1 time field trip for educational purposes. All he did was make a 15 yo lose faith in the legal system. Then he offers to mentors her. What a joke. He didn't take the time to teach when he had the opportunity, he went straight to punishment. I've heard that the family is currently homeless, and the young lady doesn't have a bed to sleep in. He needs to apologize, and re-evaluate his decision making.

Court is boring and the girl lis 16... Should she have been more respectful? Yeah, but I don't view a kid falling asleep during a boring field trip to be outrageous behavior.
