- As the search for Maine shooting suspect Robert Card reaches the 48-hour point, authorities have intensified their efforts and found a note from Card saying he didn’t expect to be alive when it was found. He told army personnel he was hearing voices and he wasn’t immediately committed to an institution for observation and treatment. That’s a problem.

Significance of the note is one of two things, either he expected to be taken out by police or planned to off himself. I think its getting more likely that the latter is what has happened to him.
Depending on the contents of the note, it could also have been a decoy to throw them off his tracks?

I lost my son over a year ago after almost ten years of fighting a medical issue, and I have emotion swings daily between anger at nobody to just hopeless sorrow, and Nobody took him from me. I cant imagine how it feels to have someone take them from you like this. My heart goes out to all.

He was known to local authorities as having mental issues before the shootings.. He purchased guns legally.. Why when someone is diagnosed - or known to authorities to have mental issues - are they still allowed to purchase guns? Why if a person is known to have mental issues, is that person not being silently monitored & tracked 24/7? Guns don't shoot themselves. This is not a gun issue, it's a mental health issue! We need better intervention - better Baker Act determination & implementation.
How do we achieve this without impacting people's rights? Do you lose your rights to freely move about only after you start shooting others? Mental health is a tricky slippery slope to address. The court & judges move way too slow in fear of impacting rights. We'll, my right to live supercedes an individual's right to be free to shoot me!

Guy had a history of domestic violence and was committed to a mental health facility earlier this year. According to Maine's yellow flag gun law, he wasn't allowed to possess a firearm. Looks like the police failed at their job.
