People have closed minds. Black Culture has been a part of Punk Rock since the beginning. Bands like Pure Hell, Death (Detroit proto-punk band, 1975, NOT the Metal band. Check out the song "Freakin' out"), Bad Brains. Etc. I have been a Punk Rocker for 35 years and for those who do not know, Black Culture and Punk Rock/Goth go hand in hand. You aren't a "Sell out" for embracing it. Example: Screamin' Jay Hawkins. We're talking the 50's. Check him out. Legend
Its the black community that has issues with this more than white people
Hell yeah brother
@Earl Smith facts! i’m an African and i started getting into punk music/punk culture few months ago, It’s crazy how people can judge your whole personality due to the music you listen to. Even some of my friends thinks im ‘satanic’ for listening to Bad Brains, or a hardcore/punk band Minor Threats.

I might be a guy but this resonates with me really well because I am alternative and this is how I feel my family tells me that I dress too white and they think I worship satan and it just hurts so thank you for bringing awareness to alternative black people because we don’t really see a lot of us in the media
I'm kind if the black sheep in my family but then again, we all are 8n my family even though my mom jumped from one religion to the next trying to find the right one... what helps break barriers is a lot of open talk... make that a thing... talk about every and anything, especially the dumb taboo stuff and eventually a9methings got to give... rock on🤘😎🤘
I relate heavily with this video. Growing up in a black neighborhood made me suppress very important parts of myself. And now I regret that I let others dictate areas of my life.

The thing is people don’t realize it started with black women in the first place rock was never a white thing all the piercings those come from POC cultures and the other forms of body modification

As a black chick who loves rock music since I was in middle school, I always got made fun of by my "own people". I always hung out with white people because they accepted me for who I was and didn't judge me. Black people always had something negative to say.

Alot of these comments don’t really seem to be getting it. As a black metalhead, you grow up getting told you’re weird by everyone then when you grow up and get to do what you want the people around you are making fun of you. Alternative culture is really only “cool” on the internet in places that don’t really have a scene they’re alone. And on top of that it’s drilled into your mind that the world is against you when you’re young, I’m just saying I can understand from experience.
Punk music... Talks about blink 182 😂
I mean, the album Dude Ranch is punk but they are POP PUNK that’s what I always remember and real punk would be like Rage Against the Machine or The Offspring. The modern blink-182 isn’t that great.
Black culture doesn’t have to privilege to access regarding punk bands, because it’s not ingrained in most of our backgrounds, and being black and alternative in general makes you feel ostracized from a mostly white scene. If you can’t see that then you fuck’n suck.
Why is it always black n white. I'm native American. What I said had nothing to do with having privilege or seeing color. Just an observation. It's a new era and people have access to music in general. You are what you choose to listen to nowadays.

I could relate as a Black Native American Goth. I was a rebel in my own zone for years where no one cared about the alternative side but then as years passed more started to get into it even those who criticized people like me. Things have really changed
First comment I read said everything me and my wife just said to each other , you’d think Bad Brains and Death x ray specs Pure Hell ESG Suicidal tendencies never existed at all . I seen one the other day similar about trams in punk only now are they allowed to express themselves and I thought erm so Jayne County and the Electric chairs and Throbbing Ghristle just never happened at all then, strange time we live in . Here in the U.K. back in the 70s all the famous punk club had dub and reggae records playing because punk records didn’t really exist. How can the world not know about Daryl Jennifer HR The Hackney Brothers Poly Styrene . Criminal . Also theres a hint of us lot ( Privileged White punks 35 years ) in the punk scene were obviously racist that’s why it was allowed . Weird times like rewriting history again

people styled like how we grew up and turning our multiracial cultures older than them into something racist
it is weird how people will pick on people who are different. perhaps it comes from insecurity about their own choices. maybe they admire the people they're picking on but don't have the strength to be different themselves
Rock was invented by black people, Google it and educate yourself. I'm not black and I knew this. They are just taking it back and owning it and white people who love this understand this. Rock was meant to be enjoyed by all of us rebels. I can't describe how awesome and beautiful this is to finally see Rock music sung by black men and women ❤ It's f@#king sexy af to finally see this blowing up and I hope it continues. I also love when I see black woman who dress cute or cottage core or Victorian dresses because it happened back then. In the Gillded Age people just assumed all black people were slaves and didn't own wealth and property but they did and thus Black Wallstreet was born. People please research it and know that no matter your skin color we are all connected❤

Not from America but I know what it is like. I never was able to live my life and do what I wanted because I always felt like it would bring too much unnecessary attention, and growing up in a country where you'd be likely the only one engaging in that style, it makes you very hesitant. Unfortunately, I haven't had much luck moving to other countries.
I love this. I love seeing all races doing different music ❤️🤟🏼🤘🏼
Everybody knows Blink 182. They're like the most mainstream band of the mid 2000s
lmao apparently some people did NOT learn the lesson bc yall are still saying they're posers. I listen to punk. I also listen to Rico Nasty. And almost any punk rocker will tell you that the biggest factor of being punk is your mentality, rather than how "punk" your music taste sounds. But even that aside, these artists DO take inspiration from real punk music whether you want to believe it or not. You can hear it in Rico's music. Stop gatekeeping black women & non binary folks out of punk music bc you're 60 years old and the punk scene has evolved. I LOVE classic punk, but I also love how punk is evolving. Get with it yall. Also I know none of you mean any harm by this, but you really have to stop saying "BUT BAD BRAINS" as your token black punk band. Yes their music is awesome, but if you really wanna be supportive of black punk artists, list some newer or lesser known ones (& also ones that aren't homophobic like Bad Brains) bc we all already know you listen to Bad Brains lmao. Be an ally and please stop using Bad Brains as your token black punk band.
some awesome black punk artists so yall can expand past Bad Brains & other artists from decades ago: JER, The Muslims, Big Joanie, Nova Twins, Truth Cult, Skinny Girl Diet. Yes X ray Spex and Bad Brains made awesome music, but we should consistently be supporting black artists and just saying "i like this one black punk band from the 80s!" does nobody any good.

Some things never change hey.. back in the 80s a busted up diy jeans was the laughing stock but a couple of years later, it somehow became fashionable in the mainstream and these stoops would pay hundreds of bucs for them and today I made a t shirt that says with a sarcastic smile face, you actually paid for broken jeans😉 so don't feel bad coz those people want to break out of their shells but are too afraid of what society thinks, so they all just follow each other... rock on 🤘😎🤘
Oh, this is in South Africa by the way... it's the same wherever you go 🤘😎🤘
If we were all the same this world would be boring, so enjoy being you.
Not here to argue about what punk is and isn't. Because from my point of view, we should all be able to dress however we want, do what we want, look and present how we want. Regardless of our skin colour, it shouldn't even matter, and it doesn't. I picked up on some vibes here that were a bit uncomfortable.

Okay. As a vet in the subculture scene I must speak up. The reason the sister speaking on a punk shirt she wore was challenged is because that is a traditional way of weeding out posers from those that are true. At the same time new people are SUPPOSED to br welcome to join the family/scene. Unfortunatley not all of us got the email. As for those that DID get the email, letd just say only 2 percent READ and ACCEPTED the truth in that email.
There's way more posers these days than there used to be, which is ironic because it wasn't as big a problem back when people were using that word everywhere.
Punk music started in England during the 2 Tone Reggae era with Skinheads and Rude Boys. Started by Black and White people across the country. The Fashion was even perfected in England with the Spikes hairdo, the Jackets, Doc Martin boots and more.
