My motors are done . Luckily powerheads were clean and no corrosion . We had to only replace upper motor mounts since they were frozen . Mine were 2006 F250s close to 1500 hours
and any reason you put your swim ladders on the stbd side? i notice that on a lot of northern boats. here in the south we mostly put them on the port side. might just be a left hand right hand thing but for some reason i see it a lot more on northerners videos. ive been to maine once about 40 years ago and plan to go back in the next few years. beautiful state. your lucky to live there although the snow must get old .
Bullship Charters I think that was the original owners preference, most platforms I’ve installed have been in port side. It is absolutely beautiful here, I actually love the snow! We do a lot of snowmobiling so the more snow the better. The frigid cold temperatures get old though, I can deal with teens and 20s but the single digits and sub zero crap is for the Eskimos!!
This is why my next engines WON"T be Yams. I have two F225s, (2005s) on my transom now. I bought the boat used and HOPE that the price reflected enough of a discount to pay someone to eventually do this work. I am unable to do it where my boat is located and I cannot trailer it out of there. They only have 300 hours on them. I just pulled the lower units for water pump replacement and will scope up the exhaust and see what's in store for me. The local YAM guru said that he's seen some 2005's never corroding and suggests that I wait as opposed to doing them now. Says I may get ten more years out of them and after that, they won't be worth repairing. So, we shall see. At the LEAST, Yam ought to hand out these kits like chicklets (for free). From everything I have read, the engines that do corrode, start doing so the first time you turn the key (within the warranty period) and do so in spite of what YAM claims (not rinsing them adequately after use in saltwater).
Steve it is sad knowing that Yamaha could take care of all the effected engines...... I haven't seen too many that were corroded bad but I tend to recommend replacement as soon as it starts, after seeing one that corroded the engine block. Hard telling how fast it's progressing without removing the lower every year and inspecting with borescope.
Did you record the part where you assemble the exhaust kit ? It would really help me if you did I’m following all your video instructions and so far no complications
navil campo I’m sorry I don’t think I did. You’re referring to the oil pan part? I’ll look through my phone to see but I was interrupted a few times. I would recommend you have someone take pictures as you dissembled the midsection to ensure correct reassembly. I’m new to making videos so I need to remember to hit that record button. If you need any help please don’t hesitate to ask!
I have a 2006, with slight looking corrosion up inside the exhaust tube. Nothing like what shows in other videos. Mine runs water out of the “octagon hole”, but the exhaust tube stays dry. I have over 1000 hours on the engine now, but think I escaped this madness. Don’t know if this water coming out of the bottom octagon hole is normal but according to a Yamaha mechanic, water out of the octagon is normal. Hoping I don’t have to do this repair.
Well you’ll want to visually inspect the exhaust when you remove the lower unit. The corrosion causes leaks between exhaust and oil Pan so there are really no “symptoms” besides water on oil possibly.
@@maineboatguy I posted a video in my channel if you want to take a look at with a link to AFTER replacing thermostat and poppet valve!! I replaced the oil pump and power head gaskets in both engines and there was NOT corrosion on oil pan area , neither ever had any water in oil...But still spraying some water from upper idle release exhaust . @@maineboatguy Yes , I replaced poppet valve and thermostat. As you can see in the '"after video" noticing a huge improvement however still spraying some
Do you happen to know what the difference is between the two upper casing gaskets? Would there be any damage done if the wrong one was used? One has more perforated holes than the other.
Maine Boat Guy so if I look up in and don’t see pitting does that mean I’m ok? This motor is new to me. It is a 2006 250 and just started getting a low idle overheat alarm that goes away as soon as I goose the throttle a little. Somebody suggested I try replacing the poppet valve since probably hasn’t been done.
Teach a Man to Fish definitely sounds like the poppet valve is stuck open. Do you see water coming out of the exhaust relief in the back of the engine while it's at idle? (Little rubber grommet dead center under engine cover latch) should only be water coming out of tell tale at idle.
David Rogers I’ve never had an issue with the water tubes. I suppose the day I do have an issue will be the day I start replacing them. Most of the engines I’ve done haven’t been completely consumed by corrosion.
@@maineboatguy I'm doing both of MY F250's which have close to 1500 hours and I would hate to not do them now only to have to pull everything back apart a few years down the road :-)😀 . Mark Haight I believe I had around 8 hours in it including replacing the oil pump and installing crankshaft repair sleeve. Really depends how bad the corrosion is, the engine mount bolts on this were corroded bad so that could cause issues as well. We caught this one really early so it wasn't too bad otherwise.
Thanks for the video! Getting ready to tackle this same job. Be ready for lots of questions. Lol.

Is the corrosion a salt water problem?
Thinking of doing mine myself. Only thing that scares me is disconnecting that power head.
Is it easy to misplace any of the wires?
Can you tell me the PN for your gaskets and hardware? I understand it can come as a kit but I've only found the gaskets w/o hardware.

Somewhat appropriate the boat is named Down Time...
good video what will be the symptoms for F 150 exhaust corrosion?...and they dont sell the kit for F150 engines (2004 F150 TXRC)
Well you’ll want to visually inspect the exhaust when you remove the lower unit. The corrosion causes leaks between exhaust and oil Pan so there are really no “symptoms” besides water on oil possibly.
Also the F150 did not have as many issues as the 200-250 engines so they do not make a kit for that.

Does Yamaha cover this Job seeing how it's a known issue they created ?

Honestly I do not know the answer but would guess it’s not good to use the incorrect one. Sorry I couldn’t be more help with that
Is that an angler? 22? Speed?
You didn’t show the view up the exhaust you referenced in the beginning, unless I missed it.
Teach a Man to Fish I apologize if I didn't show that. Any pitting in the aluminum will be an indication of corrosion starting.

Ok. Reinstalling my power head. I can’t find the torque spec for the bolts that hold the power head on
j cox sorry I'm not in the shop to look at the manual but Yamaha calls them "power unit" bolts. M8 thread. I believe it's 20 foot pounds.
Maine Boat Guy thanks for the reply. I found the manual online. It was a m10 bolt 30 ft/pds
How did you prime the new oil pump
James Larocco Yamaha just calls for the pump to be filled with oil before install.
Why wouldn't you at this point change the water pick up tube out ? Was it the newer stainless steel version already installed
