- Here's a throwback rant about movie theater pop machines. Specifically, the digital ones with the million flavors of soda. I just want a Coke! Stop making me go through 4 steps to get a pop to drink. It's bad enough we now pay like $8 for a pop at the theaters but now we have to serve ourselves. It makes no sense!

Once again you are correct Adam. I used to really look forward to the previews, sometimes as much as the film itself. Now that is gone. The magic is just gone.
We need damn rant about the sweet prices and food prices it's insane and they ban you from bringing food. The price of popcorn could buy me a dinner in a 5 star restaurant more expensive than the damn movie ticket. Might be just in my nation Ireland unsure about other countries
They get screwed on ticket sales by the movie studios, apparently. So they try to make money on the snacks. This is why I'm fine with going to the movies, but spending over a hundred bucks on 4 tickets and a large popcorn earns me the right to pirate your film. 🤷♂🤷♂ especially when they are trying to further paywall the IMAX versions in some cases (No Way Home).

In Ohio, I'm pretty sure that we're still getting our pop filled at the counter. That being said, it's been a couple of years since I've personally bought refreshments at the Extravagant Mark-up Desk. But, from what I've seen, people are leaving the counter with the pop and popcorn.
(And, yes: I agree that trailers should be exclusive to theaters. At least, show a distinctive trailer version, with scenes that you can't see at home.)
Ok, so I've worked at a theatre and other fast-food related places that use pop machines. Those newer machines are far easier to maintain than the older ones. As far the ice, the mechanism that switches the pop syrups is not the same as the ice one. Also theatres prefer control over cup counts, that's usually how they calculate how many drinks were sold, or at least that's what I was told at the time.
My local theater still makes you wait for the employee to fill it themselves
From my experience, people (be them old or otherwise) in general have either a really prideful attitude or are very anxious one, have trouble making choices in public. For the prideful ones, they like things to stay the same and despise change, thinking the way they know is better then what's being presented to them: they need to get over themselves. For the anxious ones, they usually dart their eyes around a lot and the world around them gets ignored until they are directly interacted with, which can be very jarring for them.
My suggestion is to see what type of person they are and if they're anxious, maybe ask them if they'd like some help, because you can be that young person that helps them along so they aren't crowding up your movie going experience. If they're prideful, displaying a lot of frustration or anger, be cautious: these sort of people deep down are holding back someone that only thinks of themselves and not others, be careful.
You are not one of the few! I stand with you and pay exuberant prices for movie theater snacks! I want movie theaters to continue. In fact as ridiculous as this sounds I took my family to see Sonic 2, they loved it so much I bought it on Vudu the same day. I saw a movie in theaters and then paid real money to buy the same movie and stream it in my home.
This an area where I respectfully disagree. The pop machines at AMC are really cool and have a diverse variety of flavors. My favorite Coke flavor is Orange Vanilla and a traditional pop fountain wouldn't carry that. They also carry speciality flavors at AMC such as Ginger Cremé for Top Gun: Maverick, which is REALLY GOOD! It's awesome to have more to choose from in my opinion. I think the traditional pop fountain is simpler but just because something is simpler doesn't inherently make it better. I respect your opinion sir, have a great day!
That’s why I offered the both solution. Get simple flavors at the counter or go for the machine.
@@AdamDoesMovies Some places like Chick-fil-A only give you the first option and others like Jack in the Box only give the latter. That's a really good compromise that satisfies both parties. Places usually only lean towards one or the other.
Is it me or are the bathrooms so much filthier than they were like 5 years ago. We live in a small town and drive up to the city to see movies. When I tell you they have the nastiest bathrooms I have ever been in. There's pee everywhere (how is this even possible in a lady's room), poo in every toilet, everything is wet, no toilet paper in any stall, no where to hang your purse...and why, why are the stalls so freakin narrow!! I dont want to touch anything, but the stall is two inches wider than my body. I'm 5 foot 2, what are taller, wider ladies doing. Going to the movies is kind of a big deal now, get it together theaters or I'll just watch at home.
Adam - I hope you fly somewhere soon so you can experience airport bar/restaurants “virtual” website ordering only to pick from one of 12 sanitized movies on the airplane, complete with getting interrupted every 120 seconds by the captain trying to get you to enroll in the airlines credit card. My problem with the machines is that the staff doesn’t add the flavors as often as they should so if you can bothered you’ll be sampling a bunch of choices and potentially holding up the line. The only benefit are refills but that’s useless as I don’t intend to leave during the movie unless it’s an emergency.
I also find it funny that in this day and age we watch more commercials in the theater than we do at home.
Adam i don't necessarily have a problem with my local theater in chicago but it pisses me off how every time i go there none of the machines have ice.

I don't have those digital coke machines in my theater, but I have seen them in lots of restaurants.
This is the machine at the only Burger King I ever visit. Even the employees there say, "Let me fill your cup up behind the counter here, that thing is sketchy sometimes. Watcha want?" Although they can't add the vanilla sauce back there.... or do they?

I honestly don't get it why the consessions stand is always so slow. You literally have one job but it takes like 10 minutes to fill a large popcorn 🙄
I'm not usually a coke fan or any other drinks like that so I won't really use any of the machines at the cinemas that I go to. I did however recently use one at Burger King and the way it's functioned is faulty

Yeah, I don’t buy anything from the concessions stand…fuck that…I eat and drink before I get there…almost any restaurant is more reasonably priced than a movie theater
These machines give you a half and half mix of the drink you order and carbonated water, so what I do is get a drink with a strong enough flavor to counteract that. My personal pick is root beer.

I agree with you adam, i live in Belgium. I wish i could travel back in time, in year 50. You can wacth movie in cars or movie theather with popcorn and after eat milshake & fries 🍟

My cinema doesn't have these fancy machines yet but my local BK does and almost ALL THE TIME they go down and I'm in my head I'm like "There's kids around Don't throw cuss words, don't throw cuss words" 🤣

But lucky my local theater always have two machines that you can go to but but you don't see your type of flavor you want to drink then you out luck then you got to talk to the concerning you're operating the machine to say "oh sorry we ran out"then you have to go to the other line to get the drink you want

mannn...I am sorry. I would LOVE to go to theaters and experience the joy of a movie on a big screen at the theaters......LIKE IN THE OLDEN days. But it s not real anymore. I DON'T want the typcial modern theater experience and hassle. the machines, the farts and burps of the theater goers in the theater. the cell phones. the sticky floors. the machines. the people. the machines. THE LONG LINES, the prices,...the machines...the popcorn which is fresh only 50% of the time. The machines. The burping and farting of the "fans" in the theaters.. etc., etc., etc.,

Hey Adam, is this an AMC thing? I have a Cinemark near me and the last movie I saw was The Batman but they didn't have anything like what you are describing. They had the standard soda fountain thing and I could pick my own candy.
